    Nice wanna try this. Might wanna paint and seal the rails disassembled I could see water collecting in the same spots that would be missed causing it rust faster at the joints

    *Love it **enjoyable.fishing** recommend easy set up and minimal space requirements for transport. Fun on the water. Works well with 1 or 2 in the kayak.*

    I will be making the same in the next couple weeks, not going to use the steel with holes because I am 220 lbs and want more rigidity. Also going to weld all the corners. Great video and thanks for the idea!

    What specifically did you use? I bought 1 1/4 inch steel angle and followed your video, sat in the seat and the angle bent in half! I’m only 180 lbs!

    • @ckwoutdoors
      @ckwoutdoors  3 года назад

      I'm sorry to hear that! I am unsure exactly what thickness steel I used, but when I bought mine I bought the thickest pieces that were available at Lowe's to make sure it was sturdy. They sell many thicknesses, some of which are not apparently strong enough to support the weight of a person. I am 180 also, and have no issue with the thickest steel they sell (or sold at the time). I hope this helps, and sorry again to hear that! Looking back, I wish I would've been more specific in this video!

    I’ve been debating on modding my seat. The low seat hasn’t bothered me much but after watching this video I thoroughly love this mod and it adds some extra storage.
    How do you think the seat would hold up paddling through surf?
    Thanks for the share

    • @ckwoutdoors
      @ckwoutdoors  2 года назад +1

      Hey, glad you enjoyed it!
      I think the seat would hold up great through the surf, but definitely may make the boat a touch more tippy in rough conditions if you get sideways in the waves. I've had mine in the saltwater bay here in Pensacola FL in some good chop and it did fine, but I've never put mine in the surf (I use an Old Town Predator for that). On calmer water, the boat is still more than stable with the seat raised, though.
      I'd also be concerned with the saltwater in the surf rusting the angle metal, depending on if you use steel or aluminum. Maybe a coating of a more resistant marine paint would be in order?
      I think it would work!

    • @stephenlynch1617

      @@ckwoutdoors I’m constantly in salt water even if I’m not paddling through surf.

    What seat would you recommend? Lost my last seat.

    • @ckwoutdoors
      @ckwoutdoors  Год назад +1

      Personally I only have experience with the Ascend seat, and the Old Town seat on my Predator that I have now. I love the old town seats, super comfortable and storage pockets underneath and on the back, but I don't know if you could make it fit to an Ascend.
      With some modifications I bet you could, though.
      Otherwise I have seen some cheaper seats that would probably fit with a few mods on Amazon

    Great video ..what did you use for the fly rod clips on your rod holders ?

    • @ckwoutdoors
      @ckwoutdoors  3 года назад

      Sorry for the late response, they are clips that you'd use to hang garden tools, like shovels, or even brooms and such on the wall of your garage. Just cheap metal clips, found at Lowe's or maybe even a hardware or garden store. Also the storage department of many stores will carry them. Good luck!

    Did you notice it was harder to paddle? Like your angle was way off ?

    • @ckwoutdoors
      @ckwoutdoors  2 года назад

      No, in fact it made it a lot easier to paddle because you can dig the paddle a lot harder into the water. Also I found I got splashed a lot less

  • @DeltaJoker
    @DeltaJoker 7 месяцев назад

    I used the angle steel that has the oval and circle holes. What a bitch - if I could recommend anything measure the distance between lumbar holes not the entire space between. This will ensure each cut will line up properly and allow you to bolt it together tightly

    Great video. I had a question thought. Do you remember how you attached the buckle side of the snowboard binding to the kayak? It seems like its right on top of the rails. Been wrestling with that. Thanks!

    • @ckwoutdoors
      @ckwoutdoors  3 года назад +1

      Apologies for the delayed response. I attached the buckles with a screw directly into the metal rail to keep them secured. I don't use those rails much anyway, so it wasn't a problem drilling into it for me, however I can still put accessories on the rails from the front, if needed 😁

    How stable is it?

    • @ckwoutdoors
      @ckwoutdoors  3 года назад +1

      Very. I didn't notice any seated stability change at all. I even argue that it improves overall seated/standing stability because it is much easier to stand from the elevated seat and sit back down, which poses less risk of losing your balance and falling in. In terms of just seated paddling and fishing though, it does excellent.

    DO NOT RAISE YOUR SEAT MORE THAN ABOUT 2 INCHES!!!
    THIS MOD IS FOR WIDE KAYAKS!
    DO NOT USE THIS MOD ON TINY LIGHT KAYAKS!
    Your kayak is designed with the seat in the safest position to avoid flipping the kayak in the water.
    I raised my seat 4" and lost over $1000 in gear and electronics....
    Good luck though!

    • @ckwoutdoors
      @ckwoutdoors  Год назад +1

      I used this setup for well over a year, even in some rough saltwater quite a few times and have never flipped it. Just depends on the circumstances.

    • @Manuel_Z_Kayaks
      @Manuel_Z_Kayaks Год назад

      @@ckwoutdoors Yes your kayak mod works because it's a "wide kayak" and a good kayak so you actually have "on the water" footage. Most of the popular videos are on little 10ft junk kayaks like the pelican, sundolphin, lifetime, tamarak etc. NONE HAVE ON THE WATER VIDS! (Because they probably flipped and don't want to take down a vid that's getting a lot of views)
      Not only are they raising their seats but they're going to add all their gear, electronics... deep cycle car battery...
      You get the point!

    • @ckwoutdoors
      @ckwoutdoors  2 года назад

      No special paint, I used Rustolium spray cans and just sprayed a random duck camp pattern on it but to get it to stick a little better, I lightly sanded the boat just to rough it up a bit, and sprayed an adhesive promotor on it first. Then i sprayed the paint over the top. It sticks okay to the sides and places that are not rubbed on a lot, but the keel and sides of the bottom that get scraped on a lot scraped right off. Still a good amount of paint on the top and sides of the boat to this day, though, and that is after dragging it down creeks, over rocks, and through the woods nearly 3 or 4 times a week since I bought it. Not bad.
