Yea i agree hey. Gonna be way less stable than before which is something you definitely don't want for winter fishing. I spray foamed the 2 scuppers under the seat and use scupper plugs on the forward 2 holes by your feet. Throw a purple mattress company pad on top of the stock seat and good 2 go
I added the same seat to my kayak, and flipped 2 times today. Not sure what I need to do but my center of gravity is too high off the boat. Gonna have to find another seat
It is more tippy for sure. I could not even fish with this seat last time I went out but it was really windy. I have scotty kayak stabilizers that I use now with this seat that helps out a lot.
I just bought the same seat to put in my sit on pelican, the front of the seat does sit pretty low on in between the sides but the back not so much. I’ve thought about using a heat gun and possibly forming the back to sit in better.
Yeah, that's why i had to use the wood to bring the front up. I don't know about reforming the plastic of the kayak with a heat gun. I don't know of any other way than building up a bracket so the seat sits level. One thing though is that this seat raises the center of gravity so the kayak is really tipsy in the wind and waves. It works well if it is calm but if there are waves it gets pretty squirrely and I would not use it without stabilizers. Getting the back to fit inside would bring the center of gravity down. It sounds interesting and if you do try it you will have to let me know how it goes.
I have the ocean capper so i know what you mean by the seat but i used a 2.5 in padded car cussion to help with that and the only thing is the back rest but i got used to it
Thanks for the tip! I might try it on my wife’s perception. This kayak is only 28” wide and is not very stable. I only use this seat if it’s calm or I have my Scotty stabilizers.
That's a good tip, and that way i could keep the stability of a lower seat. When i went kayak camping i was loaded down so much that water came in the scuppers so high that it came into the seat. It was pretty crazy.
Came over to check out the channel looks good. Yo i seen the contour gadget before thought it could be very handy now I seen someone use it. I got same seat on my yak. Nice video!!
Thanks for watching and I do like it. I am Leary about those as seen on tv things but this one worked great. It’s going to help me with lots of projects around the house too
Hi, I know you are on a budget but here's my opinion for when you can upgrade or tweak. Spray paint the wood black or camo ect.. Now that you sit higher, you will also need longer ores to row with. You'll be leaning over side to side to much to dig in water and also if you go in any water with waves you now have chance to fall over because of extra leaning. I could be wrong, probably needs more testing. Between leaning and sitting on that chair which has very little cushion your butt and back will probably hurt after an hour. Id get something like a 1 inch cushion hunting seat to go on top of that puled tight fabric to sit on, It might have some give but in an hour that seat will feel like your sitting on concrete. Its pulled tight fabric from the looks and doesn't have the give your bottom is going to want. I also noticed the front end of the Kayak out of the water. The new seat should probably be moved up 2 inches or so where the yak is wider and your front end might lower too. Just my opinion based off of years sitting in the woods and also using my Old Town Predator MX. I am also looking to custom add a seat like you did but behind my seat facing the other way to take someone fishing. This kayak has absurd amount of stability so going to try something this year. Cross my fingers I don't get hooked from person behind me! My seat also is adjustable and can be moved up or down something like 4 inches. Didn't know that when I got it, definitely getting bigger ore for when seat is in high position. You still did good job don't take this wrong way, just some friendly tips. GL HF out there on the water!
Thanks for watching and the comments. I definitely plan on painting it and I also had the thought of adding a seat behind 🤣 I agree that it needs more testing, I’m just glad I didn’t tip over, haha. Next time out will be about a 4 hour trip so I will know for sure. I know the old seat had about a 2 hour limit and then I had to stand up to stretch the butt, haha. Good luck on your project 👍
There is a small loss of stability when raising the seat, but it isn't much. Many sit on top kayaks come with a raised and lower seating position. It would take a lot and does take a lot for you to fall over and fall out of a sit on top kayak. Raising it that much almost never requires a new PADDLE.
Ot just get a watersnake motor for it saves the energy but needs a battery pack cheap hack get a jumper pack for cars should give a compact solution to power the motor with a added battery it lasts forever
Haha I laughed when you just randomly got after it! That was funny. But thanks for that tutorial. I definitely have thought of doing something like this. I tried just putting some zip ties through some pad eyes but that was an epic fail. I’ll have to try this
It is a little more tippy in the wind and waves. I only use this seat if I want to stay completely dry and it is calm out. Or if I have my stabilizers on. Once you are fishing in the wind and waves, it gets very sketchy. I could not even fish at all in the video I have labeled “jackhammer stealth blade and 10,000 fish yoto worm - perfect pair on a windy day” uploaded 3 months ago.
YOU NEED A MARKER BOUEY SET TO DEPLOY AT ALL TIMES IN YOUR KAYAK. You will now definitely roll your kayak and the bouey will mark where all your stuff sank!... Oh yeah... you're rolling it very soon! You're welcome!
You'll get used to the difference in balance in no time. and yes, it will change the way you paddle. In general a higher seat calls for a longer paddle. haha, I guess you've figured all that out by now. Congrats

I cant believe that I have never thought of that before! I bet that would help a lot. I would just have to be careful not to get water in the seat because it would not drain out, but if I keep it dry it would prolly stay dry with the plugs! thanks for the tip.
The only reason why I asked about the scupper plugs is I just got the exact same ocean kayak that you have there(only difference is the color), and I was wondering if the scupper plugs worked or not. I got the scupper plugs from the previous owner, and he said they worked well but when I saw your video I was thinking perhaps they don’t work as well as I would hope. @@charlessantiago4700 I use scupper plugs under my butt in my Prowler 13. But when I'm fishing, I always end up getting water in my seat. From either handling or netting fish or whatever. A raised seat would definitely help with that. But I'm not so sure this mod is for me. I do a lot of ocean kayaking in addition to freshwater. I think being that high would be a little sketchy in waves.
It held up great in the waves, but I did not. It really makes the kayak too unstable to fish in big waves or when it is really windy without the use of kayak stabilizers. The rope attachments to the kayak using the existing seat tie downs is very strong and the seat does not budge. Really happy with that part especially since I didn't have to drill any holes in the kayak.
