This legend just saved us all a bunch of money and only put 2 adds in a 40 minute video. Least I can do is like and subscribe.
Thanks for the free info, will change my diff oils next week.
Thanks alot 😊
The best maintenance tutorial I have ever seen.
Thanks alot William 😊
Hey Nick, I just want to thank you for your videos, my son and I just completed a full service and wouldn’t have had the confidence to do it without you. I have also Installed auxiliary power DVD@CCESS charger and fridge slide from your videos. Keep up the great work mate. Cheers Dwayne
That's awesome! Thanks a lot for the message.
Anks for showing me how to adjust my rear drum brakes. Quite easy after your video and saved alot of time and wait to see the mechanic.🍻
Very informative mate, can't wait to see the transmission oil change etc
Waiting for that too!
I brought the filters for my dads dmax from Thailand isuzu dealer when I was there last. I think i got 4 oil filters, 3 fuel filters and 3 aircleaners for $180aud. Worth stopping into a isuzu dealer if your ever on holidays there.
Awesome video mate. Definitely will be purchasing one for my MY20 Colorado. 🤙🇦🇺
Thanks for showing us how to do the maintenance work of Isuzu MU-X. I do not own one, but I was considering to buy an Isuzu MU-X. I was interested in all the construction details of the car. Such as chassis, suspension system, rear axle, drive shaft, brakes, engine & transmission. That was very informative, everything was thoroughly explained. This video is also giving a lot of information about the car itself. If I would go to the dealer to see how well the car was built, since I would not be able crawl underneath the car to see all of these details, by watching your video, I can have a fair idea about the quality of the car.
Another good video Nick, looking forward to your approach on valve set and coolant change...keep up the good work!
Thanks nick! This has been very helpful and i’ve been so happy with my mu-x knowing i have a good youtuber mechanic in you as my reference. Keep the videos coming!
Cheers Olec! Glad i could help 😊
Your a absolute legend brother! I have the exact same model mux and it's awesome to be able to watch such detailed videos by someone who not only knows what he's doing but also a fellow Aussie. Literally installed my provent last night. Thanks a lot! Keep em coming!
Yeww! Thats awesome! Thanks for watching 😊
Nice to hear an honest opinion on some of the issues on the mux 👍🏼
Well im new to your site, becouse im thinking of buying a dmax to pull our new van. Not knowing much about them, all the vids ive been watching on ,off roading, towing, round towning, family car,and servicing have been pretty impressive. It was my mechanic who recomended me to buy a dmax,,and im glad he did.. So in a nut shell mate, ive subscribed to your site to get some hints and oppinions from isuzu owners, and save some $$$ on doing some servicing basics myself..
Thanks mate,,,,Mark in Perth
Thats awesome Mark! Thanks alot for subscribing and hopfully you get a dmax soon 😊 They are great!
I'm waiting for nick jump at first second.. Thanks nick for the video
Haha! I forgot to do the drop in!!! Nooooo 😂😂😂
@@LowRangeNick 😂😂😂
Thank you Nick. Very concise tutorial mate, awesome.
Thanks so much Nick. Just did my Dmax oil change, front and rear diff change and fuel filter.
Please do one on radiator fluid change and transfer case oil change.
Great video Nick. My 4JJ1 has over 180,000 kms on it and just getting better. Wish I had a hoist in my shed. My high lift jack will have to do.
I wish i had a hoist in my shed too! Lucky my boss is nice enough to let me use the workshop on the weekends. :P Good to know that yours is still going strong at 180k!
Great thorough video. Another request for a new video is drive belt replacement. In all of RUclips noone has done an isuzu drive belt video... I ended up only replacing the v-belt and leaving the main belt because damned if I could figure out how to access the nut on the back of alternator to loosen it off.
Awesome video as always Nick. Was abit puzzled on how to work out the fuel filter. But as always you made it sound easy. Looking forward to the next one.!
If you need a little more help with the fuel filter i do have another video specifically on changing it. Thanks alot 😊
Your videos are so verry helpful, detailed information and instructions are very clear. Now, at least I know how to service my vehicle by myself in the future, because you know, labors are much expensive than fliuds in the dealership in our country. We've just recently brought a new Isuzu D Max 3.0. I really like your MUX rig, its not just an ordinary MUX. Cheers!
hi nick, from philippines here. i hope you do a video changing the brake, clutch and steering fluid
Enjoy this video and very helpful! Just bought a Used D max and I’ll Check and change all the stuff you talked about. Thank you!
Congrats on getting the dmax! Cheers for watching Steve 😊
Another fantastic video !! This was really informative and much appreciated that you've taken the effort to do this !!
Thanks alot 😊
Great tutorial useful knowledge and so precise with every detail carried throughout every job task. 👍
great videos Nick thank you so much i only wish i had a hoist like you have.
I dont even own an Isuzu (mighty triton) but this was very informative, starting to service my own car recently doing all oils and such. good to find out stuff like the handbrake adjustment and the rest of the process you go through.
Thanks Cory 😊
hi would you have a video doing an atf change
I like your brake cleaner on oil filter trick! I was going to tease you for your dropping into the start of your vids when i found your channel yesterday but you're now forgiven ;) Very cool content - thanks for making it.
OK, we all have a hoist in our garage! Gees, where'd that come from? Another great and informative video Nick.
Haha I'm a full time mechanic so my boss was good enough to let me use the workshop on the weekend.
Hey Nick very informative and helpful video...waiting for next video about transfer case oil change....
This is awesome thank you! Can you do a tutorial on how to change the headlight globes? I’m on struggle street and I feel like it should be so simple
Another good and educative video Nic👍 With the amount of work needed to do a major service no wonder it cost a lot to take the car to a workshop especially in Australia. Here in Indonesia to do a service like that will cost around 2 million rupiahs.
Thanks alot! It can be very expensive in Australia for a service.
Nice video mate. Do you reckon you could do one on how to change the auto transmission fluid on the isuzu? Would help alot.
Thanks
I will definately do one down the track, I'm thinking next service i will flush the trans oil.
@@LowRangeNick ledgend. Maybe add a transmission cooler while you're there
muy buen video, te agradezco el tiempo que tomaste para explicarnos paso a paso este mantenimiento. me ahorrare mucho dinero. gracias.

Could you provide a list of parts you used, including washers and a recommendation where to purchase? Thx for an awesome vid
Hey Nick great video, really helping me service my own car while I travel Australia.
Do you have a link for the exact Front and rear diff oil that you used here?
You can use any brand diff oil that you like 80w90 is fine. I have a rear e locked in the rear now so I use 80w140 in the rear.
Great video , just bought a MUX after 16 years servicing my Patrol , now I know the basics servicing the MUX . Watched all your video's so far on setting it up for touring as well .
That's awesome! Welcome to the MU-X club 😊
Perfect video ! Thanks for all tips :)
Love to watch your vids. Keep up the good work brother. Cheers from Malaysia! ✌🏽😁

Wow awesome video bro..thanks for the vid really helpful and informative..
Thanks alot for the feedback and for watching 😊
Gud on ya mate but i wish you had a yota fortuner that would be a spot on for me but any way very informative and first of a kind video seen so far......... cheers mate.
Thanks alot Govind 😊
Another great video thanks mate
Good stuff Nick !
Love ya work 🤙🏾🤙🏾
Good day Nick thanks for your video. I really would like to ask you if you could supply a maintenance service interval schedule, where we could see what service should be periodically done and WHEN. Example 20000 km change this and that, 40000 change this and that.., and so on. I cannot really find these informations on my manual. Thanks in advance
Great video mate. Thanks so much for this one!
Don't forget to check the rubber grommets are all on, mine always fall off as you rove the cover. and end up down the side of the engine.
Always enjoy your videos. Is there any advice you would particularly point out to those who have no hoist?
I would recommend getting a good car jack that can lift the car a decent height and 4 jack stands. Lift the car up as high as you can and put a jack stand on each corner so all the wheels are off the ground. Then throw down some big flattened cardboard boxes under the whole car or use a creeper to slide underneath. You can then pretty much follow through exactly how i did the service in the video. That's how I do services at home 😊
Probably not super endorsed.... but.... I use 4 wheel ramps and crawl up in low. Been used on LR D1, D2, Jimny and MUX. Jam a hefty piece wood to create a V shape behind two wheels for added safety.
Not as good as a hoist, but works pretty well. For checks on bearings then just lift each corner or if you can each end.
Axle stands do work, but not as stable if you want to start reefing on things.
@@LowRangeNick Thanks Nick
Great vid, any chance of doing an egr removal and clean? Also, a turbo boost guage and a Pyrometer installation. Appreciate it if you could
Do you do house calls........:) Joking!!
Very informative mate, great job
Good one Nick but I can't take that long for the oil on the Ranger, stupid set up lol. Cheers Steve
haha yes! That is very true!
Hi Nick well excellent thank you.
Well done Nic. Thanks. Where do you get the copper washers for the diff plugs? Is it essential to change them?
You can reuse them a few times. Isuzu should have them in stock.
Hey nick great video as usual. Mate I am a motor mechanic by trade, I'm 63 so came out of my time yonks ago. My question to you is I have a brand new mux , just had the first 15,000 service done on it, I'm thinking rather than wait another 12 months for an oil change, I plan to do it every six months, what's your opinion? Isuzu tell you every 12 months but I feel that's too long. Cheers and keep those videos coming
Thanks a lot for the comment and for watching. I agree 12 months is a long time. I personally carry out my servicing every 10,000km or 6 months. Although the 15k intervals are probably ok with modern synthetic oils I still believe that it should be done sooner. If you look in the service book under extreme use you will notice that most of the normal things we do day to day or out on the weekends in our vehicles actually fall under extreme use haha
@@LowRangeNick yeah mate I agree, soon I'm gonna be towing a caravan so yeah every six, cheers mate and again love watching your videos, maybe an old fart like me can still learn something from a young fella like you,.
Hi Nick really like watching your channel really clear informative, im looking to install pre fuel manager kit, just want to ask do you know how to bleed the diesel filter after installation
There is a primer pump on top of the factory fuel filter. Pump that until hard and it will prime the system 😊
another great video nick very helpful and informative. Just wanna know your thoughts regarding EGR blank plates. I've seen some videos of mux guys in Thailand they're putting a blank plates on their EGR. Thanks from your subscriber here in the Philippines.
I would get the egr turned off in the ecu instead so it keeps the valve shut.
Excelent vídeo
Hi Nick,
Any video's on a transmission service coming?
Mate do have vids on how to replace auto trans fluids? Your vids are very helpful
Not yet!
just like if you could tell me what size the washers are on the front and back Diffs. thanks
Nice video Nick. Are you worried about spraying brake cleaner in the engine bay and it eating the paint from over spray?
Ive never had any issues with the brake cleaner doing any damage to paint in the engine bay and after servicing i always wash down the engine bay and under carriage with water so the brake cleaner doesnt get time to cause any issues.
Nice one mate - thanks. What' are your thoughts on the Outback Armour suspension upgrade 9 months on?
The suspension is good for the price. I did have the front springs sag but they sent me out some modified heavier duty springs under warranty which i recently fitted. It is a stiffer ride than standard. They are a solid unit though and have stood up to the abuse well. If i had the money though I would go the whole hog, FOX shocks all round and their coils 😆
Hi, Nick, I'm looking to purchase a D Max
and I'm looking for the video you put together with a noisy turbo on startup so I know what to listen for can you point me in the right direction please as I can't seem to find it.
Hi mate... awesome video... thanks a lot to sharing with us ... I got for you... what spot lights do you got on your MUX and also could please post a video about it???? ....cheers mate
They are the AFN LED spotlights, i have just removed them for a STEDI Light bar.
LowRangeNick Good on you mate.. I’m thinking to get those Stedi spotlight too so what do you reckon.. which gonna be better spotys or light bar???
Nick, did you buy the Isuzu plug and play thing for the spotties/lightbar? Or just hardwire them in? Thanks!
@@alejandrozarate5197 The Stedi light bar I have is the 24.5" single row. It puts out great light and distance and doesnt vibrate with my AFN bar. I had issues with the big AFN spotties vibrating badly causing the light to shudder because they were so big and heavy. The light bar now keeps the weight nice and low and there is no more vibrations. So im really happy with the light bar. I would recommend a light bar if you have an AFN bar.
@@kaneharry5966 I just used the AFN lights wiring harness and soldered it onto the high beam signal wire.
Hey mate loving your videos, I have the same vehicle 2017 LS-T
Just wanted to know what grease you use to grease the tail shaft please.
You can use HTB or molly grease.
@@LowRangeNick Thanks, I was thinking HTB to save buying more than one grease but the owners manual has "multi purpose grease containing molybdenum disulphide" as the spec, and wheel hub/centre bearing spec "multi purpose grease".
Can I use moly grease for the bearings? as they both have the same industry spec "NLGI 2", appreciate your recommendations.
@@kilionipole3308 I use HTB grease for the wheel bearings and for the uni joints. I havnt ever heard of using Molly grease for the wheel bearings.
@@LowRangeNick No worries, thank you very much 🤙
Hi Nick
Good video can you tell me what oils you uses in your diffs and what about your transmission as i have bought a 2016 Dmax and am going to drop all the oils thanks
Great Vid, but are you planning on a changing the coolant Vid
In the future I will do a video on changing the coolant 😊
Can u show how to change liquid coolant.
Hi Nick would you recommend a reusable KN air filter would it affect sensors ? And do they filter enough I'm seeing mixed reviews? Thanks Roly
Awesome video mate. These don’t have those self priming oil pumps like the rangers do do they?
Thanks alot! No I havnt heard of any issues with the oil pump not priming after services on these.
Good vid was hoping to see trans. Do you think isuzu do all that greese work when they service ?
If you check out my other videos I have a specific transmission servicing video. They should be doing it as part of servicing.
cheers nick
Should probably split off the cabin filter section, it's a great bit of info amongst normal maintenance stuff.
The oil filter catch/drain tray was a nice touch by Isuzu, not seen one of them before, LR and Suzuki just let you spill it over everything.
Might want to put a comment on the video though:
Fuel filter clean out, better to wash out with fibre free rag and diesel. Not sure what the cleaner you use is, but it kind of looks like degreaser, I don't think that would be a good choice for the fuel system, normal brake cleaner that evaps off would be OK, but still nicer to just use diesel.
Rad top up, should really use pre-mix or deionized water. If someone didn't know they might just top off with tap water seeing you use the watering can. Fine for short term or emergency, but terrible idea for long term.
Found all your MUX videos heaps useful though, the front end strip down and glovebox stuff was mega helpful when I was doing some fit out work a few months ago.
You are amazing.
Hi Nick, Awesome tutorial and all steps very well demonstrated , but just checking I heard correctly - Valvoline Synpower 5w30? - Valvoline webpage says the product is not suitable for diesel engines or is this BS?
That's correct, synpower 5w-30 is what I used to use, it is c3 low ash dpf compatible oil. I have used penrite enviro + 10w40 for the last couple of services. I would recommend that.
Hi nick what brand of engine oil flush do you use. Great video help me a lot.
Hi Michael, I usually get the Penrite oil flush for my vehicle. They all do pretty much the same job though.
@@LowRangeNick Thanks for the info and help. 😀
Hi Nick,
Thanks for the great videos. Would you be able to point out which is the correct vacuum hose to pump the throttle body cleaner through.
Cheers
Thanks Dave! Do you mean like a Diesel Intake cleaner? Usually the throttle body cleaner needs to be sprayed directly on the throttle body with the throttle body removed from the vehicle. Diesel Intake cleaner on the other hand like the three bond one can be sprayed directly into the intake. I usually take the airflow meter out and leave it plugged in and spray it in there or remove the breather hose off the intake pipe. 😊
@@LowRangeNick Thanks for the reply Nick. I've sprayed some subaru upper engine cleaner (have plenty leftover from a previous vehicle and is compatible with both petrol and diesel engines) directly into the intake and that seems to have done the trick.
Hey mate, what tyres rims and lift are you running? Looks good 👌
2 inch lift outback armour, 265/70r17 Atturo Trailblade M/T Tyres and Fuel vector - 17x8.5 pos 7.4mm offset
Donwe still need to bleed the radiator after changing coolant? Thanks
Hi Nick .. would like to ask ..Why are you using Brake clean and not normal de-greaser to clean up the parts
That's a good question! Brake cleaner removes oily residue and dries completely. With degreaser it will leave a film of the soapy degreaser on the component unless washed down with water. 😊
@@LowRangeNick Thank you carlo
@@LowRangeNick What brand is your brake cleaner? Cheers.
@@MontyThePython We just get it in big 20l drums at work, i think its Valvoline brake/parts cleaner.
Great video Nick, at what interval do you change the oil and filter? I have a MUX and under the bonnet the label says every 20,000 km but that seems a lot of km's!
Nick does his every 10 000km. It also depends on where you are driving the vehicle. Do it more often if driving a lot of dirt roads. Oil and filters are cheap so more often won't break the bank.
What about the automatic gear box oil change??
Hi how do you change refill auto transmission fluid?
Hey Nick, what size rims/offset you running and brand and style of tyre?also are they noisy?
Hey Kevin. I'm running 17x8.5 pos 7.4mm offset fuel offroad vector rims with 265/70r17 Atturo Trailblade M/T. They are very noisy. But incredible offroad. I will probably go a crossover mt / at like the toyo R/T or something similar next 😊
LowRangeNick.Cheers Nick,I’m running the same tyre,TA-KO.Yours look bigger, may be the square edges.Any how, noise is a issue for me so will keep looking. Thanks for the reply and keep up the good work.
Hey mate, what size spanner for the diffs? Great video cheers.
24mm 😊
Nick where's your Catch Can from ~ 2017 Dmax owner
Western Filters 👍
Why 75W-90 fully synthetic on the diffs? Why not mineral... 80W-90?
Subbed
Thanks alot ! 😊
Hi Nick, what grease did you use on the uni joints?
The owners manual recommends moly grease.
Are the drive belts easy enough to replace, do you need to go through the right wheel guard flap to loosen alternator belt. How about the power steer belt is it easy enough to replace. Cheers
I havnt had to change the belts yet, they do look pretty easy though.
Hey mate where would you recommend I get one of the handbrake adjustment tools from
Hi there, here is a link to an adjuster tool. amzn.to/34c7paQ you can also get them from most good auto stores.
@@LowRangeNick 👌
thank you
Great video mate .. umm not to sure about the oil .. I mean I thought they came without the DPF and require 15w 40. Please shed some light on it . Thank you
The 2017 on models have a dpf and require dpf compatible oil. The pre 2017 models dont have dpf.
LowRangeNick I see ..thanks mate
Hi Nick, Thanks for your video, I have started doing my own oil & filter changes to my 2013 Dmax but it requires every 40K service " check & adjust valve clearance" this major service is very expensive at the dealer, I have tried to get quotes from other service people but all have said that they won't adjust valves. Is this required on your Mux? any suggestions?
It is required on my mux every 45k I believe. Interesting that other workshops wont do the valve adjustment.
LowRangeNick I paid $920 to have mine done at a dealer that shall remain nameless. It was still noisy after the service so I took it Isuzu GC and they told me the rocker cover hadn’t been off as the factory seal was still intact. They hadn’t adjusted the valves but charged me anyway!.scumbags.
@@CRN8091 Yep, some places will only do an audible check lol
LowRangeNick what would your place charge?.
@@CRN8091 Just for valve clearances or for the 45 and 90k services. For just valve clearances and parts it would probably be 4 hours labour + parts so approx $600. That's a guesstimate though. For the whole service around 1k sounds about right. For parts and labour.
Hi Nick
Did you replace the oil in your transfer case ? or have you done this in another video ?
It will get replaced on my next service 😊
Can u make one of auto oil change :)
engine oil flush? Wher do you buy iy and what do you look for when buying flush oil? Did you check the tyre pressure on the spare as well?
Can you do a video on changing the coolant some time if you havnt already done so? Also my D MAX has never been in 4X4 mode as its used for towing a caravan. So is it necessary to change front diff at the same time as erear diff if front diff has never been engaged?
You can get engine oil flush from any good auto store. Most brand engine oil flush are the same so just pick any one you like. You should change both front and rear diff oils at the same time. Even though 4x4 hasnt been engaged the diff will still be moving.
@@LowRangeNick Thank you for that info.
