My most encouraging and inspiring artist is Kristy Rice😻. Her name makes me smile. Love the open not- in- a -box approach. I am a painter now because of this lovely lady and never thought I could experience all the joy from what I have created so far💜💜. What a gift to give to people. I want to be able to make others feel the way she has impacted me. I also wonder if there is ever a way for me to show how much I appreciate what I have been able to learn from her and even others in her community.

I've done online paid classes for other mediums and the moment people have started, they always buy the smallest canvas they can. They are understandably intimidated by the largest canvases and yet they don't yet realise that larger is sometimes easier, as they have room to practice detail. There is a sweet spot for new artists I think. Obviously don't paint a wall, but it doesn't have to be tiny either.
It's why we give pre schoolers giant sheets of paper to paint on. It shrinks down as they get older and they can manage smaller paper. Yet as adults we sometimes need to realise this rule applies to us too. It's ok to go big and there will be less struggles often. You're just left with having fun and I'll also say, a larger canvas does take longer, and for me, that means more hours to enjoy it ❤

Ahas were focus on enjoying an area and not worry about problems it may create bc they can be fixed later and dont show up as much in a large piece, your use of the sprayer, and the concept of low contrast detailing. There is so much good stuff here! Gorgeous result, Kristy!! TY!!

Gorgeous!!!😍 I really love how you can go in with just one sketch and then spontaneously develop the rest of it, and do a great job at it, too! I really struggle with what to add sometimes beyond the 'hero.' However, as you showed here, to heck with 'saving white' because it totally inhibits spontaneity, and can easily be added back. Having some good opaque watercolors or gouaches (and maybe even some acrylics like you had) on hand can really go a long way towards giving a watercolorist freedoms back that we otherwise lose. I have a number of gouaches that live almost exclusively inside their almost pristine tubes, and I keep thinking I need to start playing with them -and maybe even add a few of some secondary/mixed colors since mine are mostly primaries. Some color variety might persuade me to use them more. 🙂

There are so many people trying to teach anything and everything on you tube and most of them know what they're doing but for someone who's trying to learn, what you say and the way you say it, makes all the difference.
