    "Rock"man is literally a musical theme. "Rock" for rock and "roll". Rockman has a sister robot named "Roll". His prototype robot was named "Blues". Big baddie is named "Bass". Musical themes are all over Megaman. Please listen to more, and if you like tribute bands look up both The Megas, and The Protomen.

      If we’re going by the original Japanese names then Bass was called “Forte”.
      I find it funny that he was the only one (iirc) that has a name change but still keeps to the musical theme.

      Even more interesting is the case of Mega Man X5. In the X series, the musical references were much more subdued, but the woman doing the English localization for X5 happened to be a big Guns N' Roses fan, which gave us the Mavericks for that game;
      Grizzly Slash (Crescent Grizzly) = Slash
      Duff McWhalen (Tidal Whale) = Duff McKagen
      Squid Adler (Volt Kraken) = Steven Adler
      Izzy Glow (Shining Firefly) = Izzy Stradlin
      Dark Dizzy (Dark Necrobat) = Dizzy Reed
      The Skiver (Spiral Pegasus) = Michael "High in the Sky" Monroe
      Mattrex (Burn Dinorex) = Matt Sorum
      Axle the Red (Spike Rosered) = Axl Rose

    Megaman Zero is pretty much the sequel series to Megaman X (which in itself is a sequel to the classic Megaman series), and Zero was one of (Megaman) X's closest companions. He's also one of the most famous characters in the Megaman universe, and so surprise, surprise: He gets his own series. The Zero series is much darker and edgier than the X series, taking place after several cataclysmic robot wars ravaged the planet and killed literally millions, if not billions of people and Reploids (essentially robots that act like humans). The darker atmosphere carries through in its music, which is a lot "dirtier" and grungier than the themes in X. It's my personal favorite of the Megaman series along with Battle Network (which is the polar opposite in atmosphere) for having a surprisingly mature and realized story.
    As for Cannon Ball, it's actually the final boss theme of Megaman Zero 3. The final boss itself is actually a massive spoiler, but the title Cannon Ball is supposed to represent a fast, all-powerful unstoppable force, which fits the boss (and the theme) quite well. This is a famous theme among Megaman fans, not only for the music, but for the climactic, memorable events that are associated with it as well.
    That said, really looking forward to seeing you react to more Megaman Zero tracks, especially from Megaman Zero 2.

    WARE WA MESHIA NARI
    For some context, this plays basically against a ditto battle. The character you play as is Zero, intended to be a weapon of mass destruction but ended up fighting for those he believes in. On the other side of this fight is Omega, who is Zero's antithesis. Ruthless, unrelenting, unbelievably powerful, and believes he is the messiah come to "save" the world. Death and destruction are _beautiful_ to him, and Omega is quite literally what Zero may have once become; his body is Zero's previous one implanted with a consciousness without a shred of mercy or empathy. This fight is a duel between equals and Zero overcoming the fate his creator meant for him.
    Also, the name Cannon Ball comes from the idea of a cannon ball destroying everything in the wake of its path, which is a perfect metaphor for Omega.

The original tracks still sound good, but I will be honest and say that I pretty much only plan on sending remastered ones from here on, lol.

  • @HayatoEvoker
    @HayatoEvoker 2 года назад +16

    This song comes from Mega Man Zero 3, one of the Mega man sequel series (Like Mega Man X) and it plays during the final boss, one of the coolest encounters in Mega Man history
    This Guitar vs Keyboards battle is reflected in the game as this plays in the battle between Zero - the first activated Reploid, he who was proclaimed as the beginning of a line of combat ready, human-like androids- and Omega - The Perfect Reploid, created by the faded mind of Zero's original creator to surpass all of the previous ones- a literal battle between the beginning and the end, Alpha and Omega
    I don't quite know what Cannonball refers to, tho, as a name it doesn't really relate to the game and the moment where it plays

    • @colonelcrossfire8268
      @colonelcrossfire8268 Год назад +5

      The name "Cannonball" is in reference to the fatalistic nature of the encounter with Omega. It was the inevitable confrontation between who Zero was as a person and what he was created to be. A battle that Zero was preordained to fight, one he could never avoid. A Cannonball, once fired, cannot change it's trajectory. This is why the MMZ3 Remastered Album is called "TELOS". Telos roughly translates to "Purpose, Design, End Goal" from Greek.

      @@ManiacalForeigner it's masterfully composed, but I think that I prefer X6's soundtrack a little bit more. It keeps the style and increases the variety, and it's all done by one of the composers of X5, Naoto Tanaka. The Megaman series (especially in the X and Zero series) have OST that are known to have been related to dual rock and synthesizer like sounds, which many remixes of these osts have rock guitar and keyboard synthesizer dual riffs. My big recommendation is listen to the first MegaMan X's OST from the SNES. It has a killer rock/metal inspired soundtrack and many fans noted that the first MegaMan X has one of the best soundtrack of any MegaMan game. (One of which is Armored Armadillo which you mentioned in this video.)

    Capcom did tons of official remix albums for Mega Man back in the day... And for good reason, Mega Man's musical legacy cannot be understated. I'm pretty sure it would not have blown up nearly as much as it did in the NES era if it weren't for the great music complementing the solid gameplay.
    Some other albums are Idea, Telos, and Physis, the remastered OSTs for MMZ2, 3, and 4; the Tunes albums for ZX and ZXA, which are remasters like the initial mentions; and lastly, there's dope remixes sprinkled into nearly every official OST CD they released, some even have vocal tracks.
    No one can tell me Mega Man isn't dead when they don't pour anywhere _CLOSE_ to the same amount of love into the series and all of its spin-offs as they did during the Playstation and GBA/DS eras.

    • @VelvetAura
      @VelvetAura 2 года назад +2

    5:02 They did a very different spin-off series called Megaman Battle Network.
    Its gameplay can be described as, a well put together fusion of Real-time Strategy, both Action and Turn-Based RPG, and Card game gameplay.
    That surprisingly is not really as complicated as it sounds like, as each of its elements are toned down in complexity so all of them can work together simultaneously in a fast paced environment as its known with Megaman, making it fun in a way that its easy to understand yet difficult to master.

    ok, so "cannonball" is a boss theme, and it plays during one of the most trope-subversive fights in the megaman series.
    you know the "I'm fighting an evil copy of myself" trope? well turn that on it's head, and you've got the premise for this fight: a copy of zero is fighting the original, but you're the copy, and the original, now called "omega" has been reduced to nothing but a weapon of mass destruction.
    And zero, (the more heroic copy, who is the player character) essentially goes "existential crisis who? nah, I'm just gonna whoop ass" which is a downright inspired take on the whole situation.

It's a great track, and I know this is a VGM react channel but I think you should actually watch the animation it comes from which is "Will of the Herrscher" honestly the song makes the animation and the animation accents the song. If you want to get a real idea of the musical variety from the franchise, first off, try listening to most of Mega Man 3's soundtrack.
    3 has among the best in musical variety out of the franchise, while still fitting the "energy" of the gameplay.
    Second, remember and keep in mind that Mega Man as an overall franchise has a lot of subseries.
    Original (Classic)
    X
    Zero
    Zx (and ZXA)
    Legends
    Battle Network
    Starforce.
    Nearly every one of these has it's own style, and even games within each subseries can have thier own themed style.
    (X6 has less energetic music overall than X1, to match the more devastated tone of the backgrounds, but is still more electric guitar than Mega Man Classic is as a whole.)
    In short: sample a little bit of every Mega Man subseries, and a bit more of multiple games from each.

      best way is through Patreon (you get one song request a month for the $10 tier). Otherwise, you can submit them via his PayPal link for $10 a piece. That's how I've done the bulk of my song requests.

      Yeah it is pretty good. Though I have a problem with them focusing too much on J.Pop in Gunvolt Series - not songs themselves but how 4 times out of 5 when you're on the roll and song activates... It is completely out of place, even overpowering gameplay with being too loud. And I mean c'mon DMC5 or MGR with dynamic battle music exist where vocals starting always enhances the fight. Even worse if "saving from death" Anthem Super Mode activates and not only song over powers everything it almost always doesn't mesh well with stage music.
      And no they didn't lost their touch - look at two Bloodstained games from IntiCreates - It has perfect OST. It is just somehow with Gunvolt series they are so Proud they have actual Idols for songs... They just insert it everywhere which hurts atmosphere and vibe of stages they are going for.
      "Oh you have creepy stage in total Darkness but you are doing well? Have loud J.POP song at maximum volume to completely shatter atmosphere and distract you from keeping your concentration"
