I got the straight XXL pro recently and it blew me away the most surgically tight cab I have had no flub it's got all the low end punch but the low end doesn't linger enough to flub or excessively rumble. It also feels better like its more alive and connected with what you are doing. Glad u dig them too. I have had orange, mesa, bogner, diezel, Hughes and kettner, evh, peavey, Marshall, revv, framus, laboga and the engl is the best in several ways. the laboga 3x12 with the evm and 2 v30s is the only other cab that stood out. \m/
The Engl sounds incredible. I really appreciate you are an old school Thrasher that uses these things in the way I would. So many other reviewers never go into the Thrash tones.
I think the Mesa and Engl sound great through this cab! The 5150 just didn’t do it for me, but I’m also not really a 5150 guy. Looking forward to Engl Month!!
The Fireball 100 footage made my day! Sounded absolutely nasty. I'm so glad I bought one of in 2013. Now I just wish I had bought an Engl cab with it. I almost bought the XXL Pro 4x12 cab with it but opted for a more compact less expensive Mesa 2x12 horizontal cab. More than enough for a bedroom player. 🙂
I have been an Engl man since the mid 90's. Engl makes the best cabs! Squashes Marshall's! Tightest cabs on the planet, with superior tone in your face! People that try an Engl cab, don't look elsewhere.
I’ve come to love front loaded 4x12’s. I remembered what you said about the difference in punch a front loaded cab makes with something looser like the SLO and went out and bought a front loaded carvin 4x12 that I dropped some of my favorite speakers in, it pairs amazing with my triple xxx.
Reminds me of my Peavey 4x12ms cab. It has the poopy Sheffield 1290s but I swapped two out in an X pattern with some 16ohm vintage 30s I got from a Harley Benton 2x12. That with my Peavey Ultra Plus head has so much bottom end and punch. Those old rockmaster preamps have a ton of note articulation as it is.
I used to be all about low end punch. The problem I discovered after years of doing shows is that bottom end mingles with the bass and bass drum and just gets lost and makes everything sound muddy and noisy. Guitar lives in the midrange. A good healthy bottom end is okay but what you hear in your bedroom is different than what you need to cut through a live mix. I cut bass, push mids and highs and gain and get some edge with mid punch. I keep the bass to a minimum while still including enough so as to not sound anemic. The bottom fattens things up but you don't want too much.
I can't speak for the guy, but he kept emphasizing "percussive", which means more than just boomy bass. Although you're right, my guess is he understands this, as he's in like 4 bands. It was hard to hear how it translates in the room.
A friend brought that Engle cab for me to try out one time; it didn't sound bad to me but the grill made an annoying buzzing sound that we could get rid of, except by removing it of course.
I have an Engl 2x12 Pro and it weighs almost as much as some 4x12's! I also have a Zilla 2x12, their OS model, with a V30 and a K100 and a Laney 4x12 with V30's. The Engl sounds the best of them all and all amps I've tried through it just sound awesome! The Zilla is more selective and if I run a dark amp through it's mud city! The Laney is less selective but the Engl is just one level above!
Hey Kyle, I actually happen to be an engineer in the day time to help afford my obsession with guitars. I actually designed some seat cushions before for wheelchairs. You’d be amazed how heavy the foam and “leather” cover add. I’ve seen like 24”x24” cushions that are around 3.5”-4” thick weigh about 15-20 pounds depending on the material. Kinda blew my mind once I started receiving the bigger sizes just how heavy that material can be for how relatively light and soft they feel.
You should definitely check out a Ibanez Tb412 cab !! They are stupidly cheap and sound like the heaviest cab I’ve ever played on !! So much low end and piercing highs !!
The Krank Cabs are heavy also. I think the one I had was 110lbs. It was the Revolution 4x12 and I they made there cabs out of solid wood. Not the 3/4 fancy plywood!
That's insane! What would be the difference between the E412 VSB Standard and the E412 Pro? I noticed they're both going for the same price, so I was wondering. Thanks for the video!
i got the 2x12 version and i run my powerball 2 through it and that low end punch of the 2x12 hits harder than some 4x12s idk how ENGL makes this happen but i love it
My first nice cab. Ill never get rid of it. I also have a basson, genz benz g flex, and egnater arma all 412's. I do want to get my hands on the xxl though.
There aren't enough good ENGL IR's in the world, the Pro and a 5150 is my favourite sound, that's THE melodeath sound. That background tone is sick btw.
when you get another one you should try the cab with the fryette deliverance the punch and percussive nature of both amp and cab will be immense. great video. i bet the engl xxl cab weighs a ton then.🤣
Picking up a 90's ENGL 412 Pro soon, excited to try it. I have a ENGL 212 that sounds pretty damn sweet - definitely a high end cab. It also sounds super fantaric clean. I featuered it in a recent video on my channel.
I built a 31x31in 4x12 out of 3/4 birch and I’ve never had such a tight and massive low end however it’s ridiculously heavy and I will develop back problems when I get older
curious on everyone's opinion....I live in an apartment, don't gig...I recently sold my EVH LBXii and 2x12 cab....wasnt a fan of the el84's really....so my two choices are the PRS 15 Tremonit amp and 2x12 PRS cab or the ENGL Fireball 25 with ENGL 2x12 cab.....the ENGL is a bit more expensive and definitely has more features and a range of tones....difference is about $600 tho....is it worth the $600 difference?
Doesn't the galloping thing reminds you of Sylverster, already?! I don't know. Good to have a real background but I'd be excited for completely 🆕️ stuff, than for the perfectioned ones. Could I remember sweating at washing the infinite Van? I don't know. Namastè.
don't overlook the Engl 4x12 standard, I own both, and there's no noticeable sound difference about construction when swaping speakers, standard with V60s (an excellent speaker) is more suitable for a marshall kind of sound (mid peak no so prominent and softer highs) while pro is more like a mesa traditional/stiletto cab, standard size in my opinion is much better than XXL size, as traditional is over oversize in mesa cabs, punchier and less shrill.
Yeah i have that cab to and it sounds really good, it´s a little bit expensive brand new but in the end its worth it, i bought mine brand new about 7-8 years ago and it was a little bit cheaper back then.. mine is also heavy as f*ck.. :D
Sounds great! However all that low end will eventually be high passed at 100hz and multiband compressed anyway. Idk Low end is the enemy of any good mix!
Love it KB. Sounds great. What's not great is the $1400.00 price tag. Ouch my back says as its heavy and im old. Lol. My wallet also says ouch. If only i could win the lottery! Ha ha
Yeah, Well because of the price of 1500 bucks plus shipping, folks are just buying EVH, Randall and Line 6, and then adding an EQ and or a possessor why, because ya get more BANG for the Buck ! I personally is poor so I use a possessor, a 2 speaker Peavey combo guitar amp and then connect all that into a Peavey TNT 150, been like that for fifith-teenige years! I love it with my 1991 UV-7 and everybody loves the Sound... except for the neighbors! Because who has 6000 bucks for a new rig? Besides Kyle the millionaire... $1500 proper guitar $1800 V30 412 Cabinet (with shipping) $2000 power Amp $$$ miscellaneous FX (possessor) etc. Okay between 5k and $6k.
I found the microphone to be not the best choice for this cab. The upper mids are too harsh for my liking. Other than that it sounds verry full and agressive
Kids, quit trying to subconsciously turn the guitar into a bass. Upper midrange is where the guitar belongs. Buy a Rick and an SVT if you need to rumble 🙄
Nobody is trying to turn guitar into a bass here. Of course, mid range is where the guitar lives, but that doesn't mean that low end percussiveness in unison with a properly synced rhythm section doesn't add something crucial in a metal mix. In fact, speaking to many metal producers, amps with no low end push get the axe and replaced with something that at least has a little punch to benefit the overall mix on records, as well. This whole argument of "leave the low end to the bass" is more than just black and white.
@@belligerentamateur Was talking more in general that this particular video, but yes, you can't deny that with the trend of oversized cabs, 7-8 string, and baritone scale guitars that the parameters are changing towards a "how low can we go" trend. Are 4x18 cabs next? 🤣
Dude, I need this box! How many watts is it? Does it have a sweet spot? Is it transgender friendly? Covid compatible? Can it get Eddy's "negro sound"? Asking for a friend
I didn't realize the XXL Pro was 140lbs when I got mine, and it dislocated my shoulder.
I don’t like that people are liking this. Feels wrong. I liked it too though
@@dougleydorite It's a funny situation. No issues with people liking or laughing.
Ouch! Are most 4x12 cabs over 100 lbs?
@@UncleYoshi Not all of the. I've seen quite a few in the 85-95lb range.
@@LARRIKIN_WAVE I'd like to get a Mesa 4x12 recto cab
This just reminded me, there aren't nearly enough cab videos on youtube! Good job, Kyle!
I love that you evaluate real speakers vs IRs. Keeping it real.
Engl through the Engl definitely best tone you've dialed in.
Insane punch

Hot Damn, it sounded so sick with the Fireball!
"Lets do it" , nodding head once... my new signature move ... nice vids Kyle , you got what it takes bro !
I think the Mesa and Engl sound great through this cab! The 5150 just didn’t do it for me, but I’m also not really a 5150 guy. Looking forward to Engl Month!!
The Fireball with the cab BLEW ME AWAY!

The Fireball surprised me. It actually sounds better than the Rectifier, which I wasn't expecting at all.
80s metal grill boogie cabs with EVM12ls is the heaviest you will ever move
Got this cab with a Powerball mk. I the other day. Absolutely love it. Traded my
Axe FX III for it ;)
I have no experience with Engl amps but you’re making me a fan!
I'm suprised! I was searching for Engl 4x12 cabs a couple of minutes before! Thank you, Kyle!

It sounds vicious with the Fireball and I would really love to hear that in a full mix to see how it cuts through.

are the speakers soldered on? or can you just clip new speakers in that peavey 412ms?? those 1290s need to go for me LOL
@@Vazaqin it was just simple clips. No soldering. I actually like the mix of the 1290s with the vintage 30s for what I play at least.
All three amps sounded good, but the Fireball stood out bro.
How do you not have 250k Subs? One of my favorite channels for guitar!
One reason for the extra weight of the cab is the massively heavy speaker cover/grille 😋
The Fireball 100 is a straight up war hammer.

But so much fun to play by itself.
Fireball vs. Savage would a great video! I think for the price the Fireball is really awesome but not the most versatile. 🤘🤘
Not as much as the Savage, but the one primary thing it does - raw fire in tone - it does to perfection.
A friend brought that Engle cab for me to try out one time; it didn't sound bad to me but the grill made an annoying buzzing sound that we could get rid of, except by removing it of course.
I would say that the front grill by itself, weights half a ton. It´s made from Metal for super heavy duty 💪
YESSS!!! ALL THINGS ENGL!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🤘😆🤘 Pairing an ENGL amplifier with an ENGL cabinet is really tough to beat! 💀💀 And all month long too?! SICK!! 😆🤘
