Let’s be honest Gentlemen! As great as amp sims are, this video clearly demonstrates why real high gain amps via cabinets are not replaceable and truly the real deal! Great Job Kyle! 👏
plugins are great for a bunch of situations but anything software based can have issues as computer operating systems progress. How many plugins didnt work with the M-1 and M-2 OS. tons! many have since been updated but will they be updated indefinetaly? doubtful. its software. When you have a real amp and real cab its real.
agree real amps and cabs have a different presence in the room for sure. but i have been using a helix with powercab+ as my main aamp for several years now. it does everything i need and is extremely tunable. if you spend some time and fine tune a good modeler the tones really are very good
KSR doesn't get the love it deserves. More people need to be introduced to KSR to understand how good they sound and how high quality they are. Great video Kyle 🤘😎🤘
The KSR is a really unique amp. My Orthos MK II is much less noisy and cluttered than anything else I have. I am always shocked when I go back to it and I am reminded how brutal and refined it is at the same time. Kyle makes some awesome amps for a reasonable price. Cool Vid, as always.
He's BAACK!! Good to see you doing what you do Kyle . Keep em coming bud. My knowledge and playing has never been better, you put my morale at an all time high.
I’v fought with a Roadster 2x12 Combo for 4 years and gave up. This thing could not sound tight without an OD in front of it. I had the pleasure of playing through various KSR amps and if they were more easily available in Europe, I’d probably get one. Fantastic sounding amps.
This should show everyone that speakers, how the cabinet is built, what type of wood the cabinet is built out of, and the types of speakers in the speaker cabinet has a bigger impact on your over all TONE per day, than your guitar and pick ups in your guitar. Yes, also having a great, high gain amp makes a difference, but I feel what makes the biggest difference is the types of speakers and cabinets. Oh, and I favored the KSR ( Rhodes) through the Emperor cabinet best!!
yeah i'd watch you do this with literally any combinations from your collection. amazing. but tbh i'd watch anything you did that you had this much excitement and passion for. killin' it man!
Room microphones are definitely kind of worthless. Still I could hear the differences in the amps & cabs. Strangely enough I kept going back to the Rhodes. I love that Les Paul tone with it. I could definitely hear the kick it has together. Awesome video as always! 🤘🤘
Lmfao bro you explained who I am perfectly at the beginning of this video. I'm literally cooking steakums and laughing listening thinking, damn dude...that's me. 🤣
For me, that wild hair is the ultimate way to your mind in a state of flow, which is where the beat results come from. Channeling that state of flow is not easy for some of us
I feel you on that burnout being in the gear space, sometimes it’s easy to lose the fun in it. Heck, I even shelved guitar more or less to do drums and just be stoked on music again.
GAS overtaking inspiration and creativity. When I could just have what I had I was focused on creating. Tone chasing is always necessary but that doesn’t write anthems. I’ve had this feeling over the music scene for years now.
Plus…musicians seem to be as proprietary as back then when it comes to expressing their feelings. Feelings got stolen by stupid ideologies left and right. Consumerism and emotional flattening of music. Institutiinalized.
Yes indeed. Yiu have done a great job summing " it" all up in these two comments. I wrestled with needing another OD this weekend. I do not. I have 3. You described the struggle perfectly.
I wonder if the Rhodes uses .68uf bypass caps on the Cathodes instead of 1uf on the SLO. They could have similar structure in that regard but because of the cathode bypass caps, they would be SLIGHTLY more higher mid shifted. Cool video Kyle! I actually loved the in the room sounds even if they did come out similar.
Your comment at 12:07 points to what I think I recall of Kyle and that is He sort of got to work modding amps and that of Soldano's if I am not mistaken.
turned to p90s and bought a few p90’guiters bc the guitars I played always seemed to have too much of a spikey top end and lacking midrange clarity . I always had issues eqing clarity without getting harsh, or taming harshness without getting too dark and thuddy. P90s basically fixed that . Then a couple years later I realized its a Gibson pickup thing. They have bloated bottom and a lot of lift in the high with a mellow midrange . Kinda like a 6l6. You reminded me when you mentioned the top end on your 498t. Funnily it sounded the darker thank the others too , bc of that Gibson dark low end tone. The other guitars sounds more focused . That being said , recording the Gibson humbucker guitars I have, I enjoyed the high end once recorded , in real life it’s weird bc if I get the high end tame then everything else is too dark for me, atleast that’s how it feels In the room . But the high end cuts nicely in recording if you’re eqing according to recording tone and not trying to save your ears
if you want a better tone swap the first preamp tube in the channel youre using to a nos mullard i63. you can improve the tone by swapping all the tubes to nos but it's very expensive and hard to find marched quads etc. ive upgraded more than 30 amps using old mullards they give the best overdrive because of their low mid boost. enjoy!
KSR makes a great amp. I've had the Ares and Gemini. Both were amazing. I don't play guitar much these days, but at some point I'll probably get another KSR. Either another Gemini or I'll try the Orthos MKII
I love your comparison videos like these and hope to see more. Maybe someday we can start getting some Dimarzio/Seymour Duncan comparisons with thrash metal. \m/
I find the cab/speaker combo to really be the biggest difference between the amps. Also agree that Eminence speakers sound best when blended with V30’s.
I would love to see your song writing process or like the process of putting together a demo track for one of your bands. I just think that would be super cool
it's literally non existent, haha. I usually sit down and fuck around with some chords until something sticks. Not much of a solo songwriter but I work great in a band that writes together
0:42 - I've hit that wall last week. Yes, 100% right that GAS'ing - for me at least - comes in waves. I think it's the minds way of breaking that unhealthy locked state of single-minded thinking by making people 'burn-out' - so to speak - over what ever it is that they're constantly thinking about. Edit: 1) What I took from this, is to avoid MESA cabinets:) I don't like that fact it masked the amps natural tonal characteristics. I loved this in-the-room test because I'm able to hear the differences with more clarity myself. 2) One thing: when you stepped away from the amps and moved about slightly - as you're playing - the tone of the amps changed. I'm assuming the microphone was behind you? Perhaps the microphone is best located between the cabinets and yourself.
There are definitely times when i play , and i really like my tone / gear and im really happy with what i have. Then the very next day i absolutely hate everything. I guess thats just the nature of the beast. Or perhaps im just insane lol.
I'm exactly the same way especially with tubes and cabs. Some days I feel like my gear rips then the next time I can't find a tone at all and it sucks I think it has to do with the room acoustics and also mood and things like that. When I use amp sims with really good headphones I always get the same experience.
@MilkoOfficialChannel I wish I could claim willpower in that venture.I was simply too broke to go and buy gear or even a complete lesson plan, so I ran with, seeing I had no real choice. Now the cash flow has picked up, and I now I'm staying that course, due to the progress I've seen. I wanna see how far I can run with it now. There's an added bonus of saved money as well.
My amp collection is nowhere near Kyle's but amps are what I have the hardest time resisting buying. I know I don't really need another amp but dangit! I sure want another amp.
What a great video!! Keep doing what you want . Just so you know, the gear is what brought us here, but it not why we stay. Honestly I would still watch you if you were mostly plug ins recording
Hey Kyle, another great video! Forgive me if I missed it, but what kind of switcher are you using here? I've been looking for options on amp to cab switchers and most seem exorbitantly expensive for what is does, thanks!
Man, if I were to only keep one setup it would definitely be my white Gibson 70s tribute Flying V, and my new Mesa Mark VII. I think I could sell off everything else.
Yea. The Rhodes/ksr is very focused and the midrange is growly and aggressive. The mesa is fkn badass tho. You know how much space that roadster would chew up live in a 4 piece? The rhodes would come flying through the mix like a fist but only the mids. The soldano, ehhhh, never have cared for them.
Yeah I just recently played a soldano. Idk. I don’t love amps that fee they lack body. Felt too flat to me . Yeah you gotta find something that fits well with your band. Maybe a smaller cab could also take less sonic space, a small cab will make anything sound tight and midrangey, but maybe too boxy . In a mix though it might be fine
Hi Kyle, love the comparison. But please...please make a better micing job! 1 standing mic in the middle for room sounds or every cap miced. I dont like this style. Sorry. I want a good sound.
Tone chasing is every guitarist’s curse. Dimebag has been my hero since 1992; I’m an 80’s thrash metal guy but never thought I could play that stuff. Then Nirvana came around and I could play that stuff; then I heard Pantera and my world was blown. I forced myself to learn Pantera which lead me to learn Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and much more. So I chased the Dimebag sound for two decades and when I finally had all his gear I found I didn’t have his hands. That is where 66.6% of your sound comes from. I’ve had Peavey, Marshall, Line 6, Crate, Blackstar, Randall and finally PRS. So much gear I have gone through to finally have the simplest and best sounding rig: ESP EC-1000 with Evertune bridge and Seymour Duncan Dimebucker, PRS MT-15 w/ ISP Decimator Maxon OD808 in line and Noisegate Sonic Stomp in the FX loop, two 1x12 PRS MT cabinets loaded with Eminence DV-77 speakers, Ernie Ball slinky strings 10-46 and James Hetfield picks. Seems like a lot as I write this but this is the least amount amount of gear I have gigged with and my sound is killer. And it’s my sound! Good luck to the lost and wondering guitarist that just can’t find that sound they want.
Let’s be honest Gentlemen! As great as amp sims are, this video clearly demonstrates why real high gain amps via cabinets are not replaceable and truly the real deal! Great Job Kyle! 👏
Well said. I’m a tube amp guy, but I totally get the sim and Kemper thing. All come down to preference imo.
I can’t agree more !
Sims/modelers are just another tool to me. Convenience wins for a lot of people, and I like that too, but real amps are just my bread and butter
plugins are great for a bunch of situations but anything software based can have issues as computer operating systems progress. My Orthos MKII 100 is a vicious beast, and extremely quiet. It's an amazing amp.

I've always wanted to hear a Carol Ann Tryptik 2. I've heard it's got legendary metal tone in the same realms of SLO, Dual Rec and JCMs.

I’ve wanted a Roadster and an Orthos 2 for a long time.
Would the Uberschall and the Diezels be also similar sounding to these 3 amps? From what I've heard so far it seems like it.
Some fine things just can't be replaced, such as a tube amp, a 212 or 412 cab...and a fine cooked lobster lol
What is your electric bill, tube replacement, and amp repair budget like?
KSR makes a great amp. I've had the Ares and Gemini. Both were amazing. I don't play guitar much these days, but at some point I'll probably get another KSR. Either another Gemini or I'll try the Orthos MKII

That Saldano is so damn good. I’ve never given them a chance before. So does that mxr overdrive.
When your hobby and passion feels more like a chore or a job, then best thing to do is to change it up
Can you do a video of both your omega amps blended together with the omega cab and the emperor cab? I would absolutely love it if you could do that!!
my favorite part of playing guitar is finding great tones
That SLO just cuts right through man
12:14. Of course they're close, you're playing them through the same cabinet.

@@belligerentamateur I watched the entire video. You were dialing in the amps to sound similar.
@jesseyasaitis9036 you obviously missed the point of the video. The heads should sound different regardless.

I’m not sure if you mentioned it at all but what speakers were in the Emperor 4x12?

DV77 & Swamp Thang best pair, to my ears. the dv77 is like a v30 just slightly better in its chunky palmmutes.
Isnt a dv77 a lot deeper and less mid oriented than a v30 i have v30s and and am vurous about dv77s.@@scootscoot97warlock90

Totally unrelated, but your camera clarity is insane. Very nice, did you upgrade?
Rooms mics sound more real to me what i mean is u can hear it sounds in real life in person soldano ❤ all your amps are fire

I don't agree at all, as what was captured by the sound mic isn't even close to what I heard in the room
