You should do a battle of the vertical 2x12’s. Orange vs. Mesa vs. ENGL. I know you’re not the biggest fan of the Orange since it’s a semi open back but give it a chance, I have one and it sounds huge.
As far as the 4x12 cabs go, I bought the ENGL last year and ended up selling my Mesa Rectifier 4x12. Great cabinet but the ENGL was more focused, punchier and more articulate. The Mesa cabs are awesome but the 4x12 cabs are too boomy for me. I honestly think 2x12 cabs are the best.

I have a Mesa 2x12 vertical, speaker set up was originally the stock v30, then switched the top speaker to dv77. I picked up this cab in the video and it definitely sounds punchier, the low end gives far more thump to it. Not sure how much the geometry of the cab design of the Mesa vs Engl changes the sound or the speaker set up itself. But I will say that the moment I ran through the Engl cab it was instantly an improvement, across the board, taming highs, punchy low end, just a very full sounding cab. Running an engl fireball 25 through it.
I’m hearing a buzzing on your recordings that I don’t recall hearing in the past… both on this video and your fireball 100 video. Is it possible that something is loose or gone wrong on that sm57??? It’s like a crackling sound
I just ordered a Fireball 25. I bought a cheap 1x12 Cab with a V30 on Amazon for less than $200. Looks like I'll be buying this because it sounds great. Not sure how I'm going to hide it from the wife. I'll put a cream back in the single cab and I guess have a spare V30. Maybe I'll attempt to build a cab for it. I have 4 combos and 2 bass combos all solid state so this is my first foray into tubes. Strictly a bedroom player. I'll probably be exiled to another room or the garage. Thanks Kyle!
Worst case, go looking in used gear shops for 4x12s you can find some absolute gems. My 4x12 was $90 and it came with Celestion G12K85s, each one individually sells for more than I paid for the cab.
Just switched out the V30 for a Hesu Demon for the top speaker, and... it's different, that's for sure. =) Had to change some settings on the MT15 to get it where I wanted it to be, tone wise. What I really like about the stereo switch is that you can hear the different speakers in isolation and compare them side by side to see what they are bringing to the table. Luckily it wasn't that hard to install; just had a hiccup because the white wire had falling off before I could look at the back of the speaker to see how it was wired up, but I went back to this video and it really helped, since you took a look at the inside of the speaker cabinet. I’ve got that cab and runs it with a Engl Fireball 25, and a Evh 5150III 6l6 50w, and it smashes kick-ass🤘🏻 I think it sounded really well with the Bogner and Mesa also👍🏻 Please do a compairison with the Mesa angled 212 rectocab🙏🏻
Hey my cab! My Mesa vertical 2x12 with V-30's sounds a lil' different than my ENGL 2x12. The Mesa has a singing type thing going "Santana-ish" while the ENGL just helps the amp "chug" better, for lack of better description. My amps ENGL Ironball 20 and Fireball 25.
I was listening through earbuds, which is kind of silly. So of course I didn't get to check out the low end. What I heard was great though. For one thing you played all those cool riffs, which didn't hurt. Looks like a great cabinet. Thanks for the demo!
That's exactly how I feel about my 2x12. It can run w a 25w Tube head keep up with a drummer very easily. Surprisingly thumpy and loud. Always thought I needed a 4x12 until i found the right 2x12. Saved my back too!
Man that's a great looking cab Looks like 3/4" plywood. It's wired up with high quality wire and jacks. Everything looks very well built. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that this is a very expensive (but worth it!) cabinet.

I recently bought my first vertical 2x12 and love it. It's just a HB Vintage 30 model, but it is all ply and decently built. Regardless of brand, vertical 2x12's really shine for self monitoring. I think I like it better than my much more expensive 2x12 horizontal cab. I bet that ENGL cab sounds super fat.

I love vintage 30s, they're awesome speakers, but I've been experimenting with other speakers and having a blast. I just put a texas heat and swamp thang by eminence in a 2x12 and they're awesome as well.
i got the Engl E212VH Pro, wich is the Horizontal cab, it's a really hard hitting one and i love it! i thought about the vertical one, but the Horizontal slaps a bit more so i got that, when dialing it in i usually stand a few meters away so i hear it properly. It's heavy as hell but that's absolutely worth it!
Funny. I had the same thought about pairing the bogner and the Mesa together. I also know it would be a good idea because Mark Tremonti of Creed and Alter Bridge used those together for years.
I have one of these, a 2x12 that weighs as much as some 4x12's lol. Every amp I run through that cab just sounds awesome. Punchy and tight! Other cabs are a lot more selective, this cab rules as you can hear the individual characteristics of each amps but as their best version, if that makes sense!
For the bit about running the Mesa and the Bogner... Since these can do stereo, you can put those cabs next to each other and checker pattern the outputs of the amps, and stack them on top of each other across the tops of both cabs. Now it won't look sto stupid. Just use an ABY pedal or a Y cable coming out of your last pedal and BOOM.
Kyle, awesome video. any idea if that padding stuff inside the back of the cabinet can be purchased separately? I'd like to try it in a similar design 212 cab I have that at times I feel is too bright.
a dude in my area has a ENGL Custom Shop 4x12 with 4x V30s in it and a blackstar metal 100 for $1000 for both but theres a huge crack in the blackstar head with a weird metal brace type repair. i pm him to see if he wants to sell just the ENGL Custom Shop 4x12 its blue snake skin its dam near mint.
Kyle, do you find the Chinese V30s ( same as in this ENGL 212) to sound any different or less quality than the UK 30’s when installed in a proper cab like this one? I have a Krankenstein cab with absolutely stellar construction, and I loaded it with 4 Chinese V30s from my Randall XL. The sound difference from cab to cab was astonishing… however the tinkerer / purist in me, wants to purchase 4 UK 30s and see if they make a difference. Figure you’re the guy to ask on this subject. I used to install ultra high end stereo systems in Lamborghini’s, Ferrari’s, Porsche’s etc. We would build cabinets for up to 2 15” woofers and we had to get the area of the cab for that particular speaker. My question is I have a Harley Benton 2 x 12 cab with Celestion V30’s. So I have my $300 Celestion 2 x 12 cab versus what looks to be a $1000-2k ENGL cab. What makes it so special?
The Engl will have far superior build quality - Better materials, better construction, i.e. proper jointing at the corners, thicker plywood, higher quality plywood, etc. With that said - whether it sounds better or not will be totally up to the end user. If you love your Harley Benton, then there's not reason to look elsewhere at more expensive cabs!
Hey man, think about a kick drum. When the kick drum hits and you're in the room with it, not only do you hear it, but you FEEL it. The frequencies and the air moving. It's typically punchy, and quick. Low end on a guitar amp can be the same way, and that's typically what I imagine as percussive when I'm hitting palm mutes on an amp/cab.

Speaker manufacturers have different frequency response graphs for their 8 and 16 ohm speakers,so yeah,there is a difference….16 ohm speakers have twice as much wire wrapped around the voice coil as an 8 ohm speaker…it’s thinner wire too….Generally speaking,a 16 ohm speaker will sound a little fuller,with more highs and lows…8 ohms are more mid forward….but with that said,the difference can be pretty small between the two,but yes,there is a difference…
I wish major companies like this would offer the option of buying unloaded. I have a bunch of speakers and I don't need two more. Looking inside that, no wonder they are on the heavy side. I might try foam on the back of my Marshall 4x12.

the inferno had an upper end brittleness i was not expecting, mic possition would fix that but sounds like a really well built voiced cab overall

Foam helps prevent reflections and the phase cancellations that follow.

I wish major companies like this would offer the option of buying unloaded. I have a bunch of speakers and I don't need two more.
Looking inside that, no wonder they are on the heavy side. I might try foam on the back of my Marshall 4x12.
Speakers are so cheap wholesale, the cabinet manufacturer would only be able to knock off like $100-200. Mesa will sell you an unloaded cab.
Kyle, I think sweetwater needs to let you keep this for 2 or 3 more.... Years and use it for all amp demos during that time period..and after you are done I will purchase it from my Sweetwater rep as "scratch and dent".. sound good man??
