    Thomann has developed a niche that satisfies the need/desire for players to do what we do, which is to buy as much different gear as possible within our budget. My budget happens to be in the bottom 10% and i can still get the high off purchases that are quality worth keeping and using. I have come to blindly trust Thomann and recommend them to all my friends because of the number of tools i have purchased and enjoyed. It is clear by their stock status at any given time that i am not alone in these beliefs. Talking of coarse of the house brand stuff. Harley Benton.

Spent just over $600 for THREE quality instruments that I will have for many years to come... and 3 guitar stands, two capos and a Snark tuner in a pear tree too lolol....

    close miked solo guitar is one thing but in a live loud band situation on stage or rehearsal is totally different. I have the HB 2x12 its nice but can struggle sometimes. Get the 4x12 if your any kind of loud rock/metal type band . Much better bottom end and no substitute for moving air .

      I would't even consider a 1x12 for live use. Last time I heard one it sounded really bad, too tiny and harsh

    • @thorinbane
      @thorinbane 5 лет назад +1

      I have made a number of cabs. The 112 I built that were oversized sound great. The limiting factor on vintage gear was 20 watt speakers. So to use even a 50 watt head you needed a 412 to safely handle a cranked head. Now you can use a single creamback or vin30 and get a punchier tone that is still really loud in a 112 oversized format. They can have lots of lows if you know how to port them. But it doesn't matter because you are stepping on the bass player in a mix anyway.
      Get a creamback or vin30 in a 112 and you are good to go with a still super loud 50 watt head. You could even go down to a 20 or 18 watt head and be plenty loud outside of playing an arena. If you are playing that size of venue they will put you through the PA anyway. The days of big heads is going away now that we have efficient speakers that can handle the wattage along with most venues having basic PAs to get you plenty loud anyway. Those marshall stack backdrops look great but they are empty cabs anyway.

    • @thorinbane
      @thorinbane 5 лет назад +1

      Must have been poorly constructed. I had a 212 size cab with a single swamp thang and it sounded amazing, and I was only putting a crappy SS marshall through it. Construction of the cab makes a huge difference.

    Having this dillema with my rig. Using a Mesa 1x12 with a Headrush MX5, and without using the IR's that speaker does not sound great (very thin sounding) The Mini Rectifier sounds much better, but I'm trying to downsize the rig in general. Maybe I need to switch to a 2x12? Hearing these samples, the 4x12 is massive sounding, but who wants to drag that to a sports bar or wedding gig?

    Short and sweet. Through my monitors, they kind of sounded like they were all the same amp, but I was hearing each from a different perspective. The vertical 212 was the loudest on the recording (maybe because of the mid push), but I thought the 412 had the nicest overall balance. The 112 didn't sound that great, but that might be solved by moving the e906 around a bit to find the sweet spot.

    I gotta say that through RUclips Sound Quality, the 2x12 Vertical did came out better than the others. But, I got to get real too, the 1x12 is the sweet spot in term of price / size / sound quality, and since my head is only a 20w Joyo Bantamp, the single 1x12 will do just fine (at least, i hope!)

      LOL! There is NOTHING wrong with YT sound 'quality'!

    • @kainx99
      @kainx99 5 лет назад +1

      @@DMSProduktions Depends on who you ask I suppose.
      In my own personal experience from watching gear reviews and then buying the gear, I am always surprised on how _better_ the gear sound when you are in the room vs how it sounds on RUclips.
      If it sounds great on youtube, it should be amazing in real life provided the demo was recorded with the appropriate equipment (i.e.: not a phone)
      In term of quality (from worst to best):
      - MP3 / Spotify / Lossy Compression Audio Files
      - CDs
      - Lossless Compression Audio Files (Like AACs File)
      - Uncompressed Audio Files
      RUclips is not using a Lossless Audio Compression (at least not from what I can see, I could be wrong), so I assume that we are in the Mp3 Quality range... While not _bad_, it's not enough to truly experience audio (especially if listened through crappy computer speakers or headphones)
      That being said, whatever works for you :P

    • @DMSProduktions
      @DMSProduktions 2 года назад +1

      @@kainx99 Lift a file off YT servers. The native MP4 file is usually packing AAC audio.
      It comes down to the quality of the INPUT in the 1st place! IE. Rubbish in, rubbish out!
      That being said, of course in PERSON is going to sound somewhat different/&/or better than recorded for sure!~
      However, I HAVE heard demos then heard in person my self, and for the most part, it has been IN the ball park!
      It comes down TO the recording!
      I bought an PV C20 head a few years back after hearing a few demos & thought, 'GREAT little amp! Suits what I play, great features etc!'
      I got 1, used, and it is somewhat BETTER than the demos, so, it does, on the whole work as intended! I bought some new pedals as well after hearing some demos on YT and they were IN the ball park of what I was after!
      Yep, they work FOR me!

      @Mark Seymour Pfft LOL! See my reply above to Kainx99!

    • @kainx99
      @kainx99 2 года назад

      @@DMSProduktions
      I think that is a certainty, if the input audio was garbage, the output will be compressed / processed garbage
      However, there is more to the input to consider. AAC Audio is a lossy audio codec (better than MP3, but still lossy).
      But I am not sure that I have such fine ears that I could make the difference between a MP3 and an AAC track. A pro will make the difference, but with my unpracticed ears, I would not make a bet on it.
      Furthermore you have to consider the quality of the receiving device.
      I am mostly using wireless headphones on Bluetooth, and we all know that bluetooth further decrease audio quality due to bandwidth issue in the underlying technology.
      So RUclips sound demos are nice and all, but I remain cautious. I gotta fall in love with it to pull the trigger, or else find someone who will let me try it.
      All that being said, I ended up with a 1x12, and I think it sounds better than the 2x12 in the video. But it can also be my mind playing tricks on me to justify the buying spree.
      Cheers!

    I’ll never understand why so many gear demonstrators compare the sound of single vs multiple speaker cabinets by sticking a close-mic on a single speaker of all the cabs instead of using room microphones. Even if there is some tonal difference, I wouldn’t buy a huge 4x12 cab over a single 12 if all I’m ever going to do is mic a single speaker on it for recording. The primary reason for choosing 2 or 4 speaker cabs is for a bigger in-person sound in the room/space.

Definitely just affirmed that it was a good thing because I really enjoy playing through mine... Eeeeeeeven though it arrived damaged because the delivery system is bullshit. But I was able to repair the cab and getting that intimate with it was a good learning experience since it was my first cabinet purchase. With company's like Parts Express out there selling kit's that use Celestion speakers for under $200 all you have to do is build it. Why not do a build on some of these kits offered out there.

    So what have we learned?
    I say a lot, so thank you Philip.
    It is important to say that.
    Now I'm curious
    1.how much it matters where the speakers are in the room for the sound.
    2. Are the differences between the V30 speakers themselves.
    3. Would ik make a difference if the speakers are older and have been run in if that is the expression and if one or more speakers were run in and others were not.
    I can off course experiment with that myself but I'm curious if that has been done already.

    The vertical 2x12 is actually a tiny bit smaller than the horizontal. The angled structure probably stiffens the face of it a bit and changes the tone, of course being up off the floor gives an edge. The horizontal wants to be tried sitting up in a chair I think.
    What is hella cool is that with $30 shipping, &c., even I can afford to run the gamut of testing right here. The 4x12 exceeds the 30kg. limit but I bet it is not too spendy.

    Hi Phil, great video! I use an 80 watt solid state amp modelling combo, the Roland Cube 80XL. I want to add an extension cab to it, to fatten up the tone and add base, would the 1 x 12, 2 x 12 horizontal, or the 2 x 12 vertical add more body / base to the sound? The 4 x 12 would be too big for me. Thank you in advance.

    Whyyyyyy!!!
    I recently ordered the Greenback HB 4x12 off Thomann and they ended up canceling my order cuz they said they couldn’t ship to the US (I’m in California)...?!!? :((

    I'd love one of these BUT with shipping and import charges it's cheaper for me to just buy a Traynor 2x12 in Canada. Also has the same speakers so it works for me :D

      I'd waaaaay rather have the Made in Canada Traynor than the HB.

    Ya know, tone king had that 2x12 back in the shelf like that two. They complained the entire video that it didn't sound as full as the 2x12 boogie cab. Well no shit, it's shoved into a shelf unit. Pull that mother fucked out and try again!

      I was watching for it as the guys started playing, it sounded dead..... But its tucked up in a shelf

    They would need to be level matched. They should sound similar. Thanks Phil.

    4x12 all the way. verticle 2x12 is oddly muddy.

    I think the 112 sounded best. I own the hb212v and use it with my evh lbx. A great cab for the price. I'd still prefer the sound of an orange 212 or the evh212
