- Have you ever been to a convention? No...yes? Well here are the TOP seven things you should expect at your first convention, whether it be Anime North, San Diego Comic-Con, Fan Expo, Otakuthon, Katsukon, Anime Expo, Atomic Lollipop, Unplugged Expo, Ohayocon...etcetera...Expect to see these things.
Also, when I filmed this video it was really hot for some reason. I live in Canada and usually, the weather is negative degrees, but it was like 20-30 degrees that day and my body just wasn't having it.
As you can see, I'm still experimenting with things on this channel. Things may be a little inconsistent until I can figure out what I really like. I tried out a new colour correction blend, and I don't think I'll use it again because I'm a bit overexposed.

First thing! You are so adorable! I totally agree! KEEP MOVING there is no room to stop! If you see some cosplay you like, wait until you are located in a bigger area!! You will probably see them again anyway! I also hate that when i ask for a photo and people jump in and take there photo without asking, especially when that cosplayer only has limited time! Sometimes i never get my photo because of others! There are also the people who try and sleep at some conventions because they dont get a hotel or just dont want to leave! >.

Thank you in addition to Tia's tips you gave great advice to me a brand new newbie ! Awating my first opportunitity as things open up.
Something I didn't expect at my first con: no matter how bad you think your cosplay is, someone will probably want a picture. Whether you are a popular character or not, as long as you are recognisable, expect at least one picture.
Similarly, don't be scared to ask someone for a picture! Trust me, people will be happy. It might feel awkward at first (in most normal social events, asking a stranger for a picture is _really_ weird), but throughout the con, it will get easier. Even if you don't want a picture, complimenting other's cosplays is perfectly fine. You don't have to be creepy about it at all. If the person you want a picture with isn't busy talking or eating, just walk up to them, say their character's name if they don't notice you ("Levi! Hey, uh, I really like your Levi cosplay. Can I take a picture?"), and try to avoid touching them to get their attention. If they are eating, just try to find them later, and if they're talking, you can just wait around for them to finish.
On another note, walk around and look at _all_ of the vendors before buying anything. Even better, look at everything soon after you get to the con, then come back around lunch to buy stuff. That way, you've had time to think over your purchases, and you don't have to carry everything you bought all day.
Lastly, give yourself some down time during the con. Around 3/4 through my con, I was tired. There weren't any panels that interested my sister and I, and we had just been active for a couple of hours. My sister took a nap while I sat next to her playing on my phone, and afterwards, we were set to have fun again. Don't feel like you have to do stuff the entire time you're there: eat a snack, take a nap, and relax. It's no longer fun if you have to force yourself to enjoy it.

I agree with the picture thing, and I looked awful half my makeup was dripping of cause there was a massive heatwave and I got 5-6 compliments for amazing people and 2 pictures. So yes and also be ready to pose!
I'm a very shy person, the only person I socialize with is my family, and boyfriend, I'm cosplaying for the first time. The picture thing makes me nervous because I have some past trauma linked to people taking my picture, and I'm SHY and have terrible anxiety. I hope everything goes well.

Thank you sm for these tips! I'm going to my first con next week! I am super nervous (but also excited ofc). I want to cosplay Wednesday Addams for Saturday, and Michael Myers for Sunday. But due to money troubles, I don't feel confident in either cosplay. Your statement about "someone will want a pic, regardless if it's good or bad" has helped me relax. ❤️

My first con was a year ago. I had a mostly internet-bought AOT costume that I bought for Halloween. The point about leaving the con wanting to make my own cosplay is very true.

And if it looks good, people will pay attention and want photos regardless haha. My friend once did a cosplay of a character who appeared in like 1-2 PANELS of a spinoff series manga for Jojo and it was so vibrant and unusual that even though people were like WTF, she got attention for her craftsmanship. And it was her first cosplay too! One person did recognize her character, though. xD

My first "con" was Anime Con 12 at the Louisville Public Library. It was so small, but I saw about 18 of my favourite characters and it was amazing! I did exactly what this video says. the fun thing is, I wear what I wear at a con and people don't laugh at me at all. if people laugh at you isn't that becouse of what you're wearing, it is because you feel uncomfortable about it. when you just think: 'I like this, I don't care what others think' only jerks will lough at you. and why would you care about that? when you dress in cosplay, a lot of people will say that you look great!!!

The journey to the con and the cosplayers slowly taking over public transportation is SO TRUE lol! I've been to a renaissance/medieval con last year and the station we had to get off the subway was crowding with people in armor and medieval dresses! And then this huge group of people started walking through the streets to the actual location of the con, it was so weird and so AMAZING! :D You really feel like you're part of a special group no one else knows about!

Recently me and my dad drove to a cosplay picnic. Asides from my dad butchering how you pronounce cosplay, he was the one who spotted the first people walking around! It was helpful because we weren’t really sure where to go.

I went to my first con this weekend and you are so on point in this video. The one I went to let little kids in, there was even a newborn baby with his parents in the talent show. I think something to add to the video is if there's going to be little kids and they see someone like Spiderman and they are super excited, tugging their parents as they run to the cosplayer, don't be that person whose like "that's not really Spiderman" you don't want a child to lose faith in their heroes so early on in life.

Remember,if your skin colour is not the same as the character you're cosplaying, don't freak out or get out of cosplay because somebody said that it's not okay for you to cosplay that specific character you are beautiful and it doesn't matter what your skin colour is. You are still one of us 💛💛

Also another thing you need to know: When you go to a Con don't expect that you'll be the prettiest or sum there could be people who has the same cosplay as you but cosplay it better and you don't need to feel bad because your cosplay is not good as theyre cosplay because your cosplay is good even if people are going to the other cosplayers and talking with them and not talking with you don't worry your cosplay is awsome so don't think that you have a bad cosplay

5. Last question. I've never gone to a convention before. Should I cosplay the first time I go to a convention, or should I not?

As someone who has been going to cons for many years now, I tend to like to schedule out my Con before I go. I love panels, go to photoshoots, set up private shoots, go shopping, and of course I block out time specifically to eat. If I don't schedule it, it'll stress me out at the con to figure it out. It makes it easier and more fun for me at cons. :)

At my first con I felt really shy and embarrassed before getting to the center while wearing my cosplay, but once I got inside I felt *underdressed*. Like everyone looked amazing and beautiful and majestic and just 👌👌. If I died rn, that con would be on the highlight reel. MORAL OF THE STORY dont worry about overdoing it because in the end everyone is just excited as you are 🌸

My first con was last year it was really bad it was really small cause it was in an old store in a mall and there were no pannels it was basically an artist alley with like a cosplay contest and some "famous" people mainly wrestlers and the entry was like $30 per person it was sad but atleast i went to one

I wish I watched this before my first con a few days ago. I was so stressed, hot and overwhelmed. I didn’t know you could ask cosplayers for photos at first and it made me so stressed asking. I laughed when you said you will already be planning a cosplay because I literally am as we speak lol. I also didn’t know vendors have to tax you if you pay with card so next time Im gonna save my cash. I didn’t really check out what was happening online so I only took pictures with cosplayers and bought stuff and I kind of regret not having a schedule and attending panels.

This is probably a random question, but I'll be going to my first con in April (with some friends who are cosplaying with me). I have been cosplaying for a few years and have a cosplay social media, but I just this year found people (who are now my friends) who also cosplay, so I feel comfortable going! I also have experience going out in public in cosplay and getting my photos taken and people talking to me about my cosplays when they see me. I suffer from anxiety and sometimes I have issues when it comes to what to say. If I want to take a photo of someone is saying, "Excuse me, is it okay if I can take a photo of you (or photo with you )? I really love your [character] cosplay!" okay? Sorry if this is really stupid of me to ask haha, I am just scared that I might say something impolite (I'm a polite person, just under pressure or anxiety I have brain farts and it's good for me to know exactly what to say before hand" xD

My mom died and I have been stuck depressed in my house for 1 year. I want to cosplay it really interests me and I want to try new things. I just don’t have anyone to go with. Do people go alone? Can anyone just go and dress up? What can I expect as a noob cosplayer?

Hi, I've never been to a con either, this was really helpful! Thanks! Question though. There's a sketch duel by some of my favourite artists in a conference room on one of the days. Is the seating for that kind of thing first-come-first-served? Or are these generally paid extra events?0(It's hard to tell from the website!) Should I plan to go to that way before it starts? I really don't want to miss it, since it's the main thing I want to go to this con for! Thanks :)
Whoops! This is a bit late, but I would contact the event organizers on Facebook or through their email to clarify. It could go either way for an event like that.
