The T wing shouldn't be used to try to outturn other fighters. It's basically the P-51 Mustang of Star Wars, designed to fly into and through enemy formations, tear them up, and then run out to distance before coming around to attack again.
I think the T-wing was a cheaper alternative to the A-wing. Definitely less capable, but cheaper.
Maybe more a p-38 Lightning maybe. As pretty sure the Xwing was meant to be the equivalent of a Mustang.. since it liked to act like one. Being something of ability to do a little of everything but slightly more suited towards dogfighting most enemy fighters
I love the aesthetic of OG Star Wars ships, I always wanted a Y wing when I was a kid
I am with you there. Between the two seater variant and the recon version, it is a good craft.
@@justinvanvolkenburg5298 desperately need a Mount and Blade style Star Wars game where I can do anything from bounty hunting and mercenary work, to running spice; assembling a formidable army among the way.
All so I can make enough credits to buy my yellow pin striped beauty.
@@rom7245 You could try Star Citizen. It's pretty close and has amazing ships (some designed by the ship designers for Star Wars). It has bounty hunting, mercenary jobs, trading (including illegal trading) and mining. Not finished yet so some game features are not in (like more AI and salvage and exploration jobs), maybe in a couple of years. It's great to play the Alpha version with friends right now, though.
ARC 170 for me.
You & your fucking 'OG'!
Ah yes, one of my favorite Star Wars channels... "My Face"
"Hello there friends and welcome back to another episode of My Face"
"If you're watching this, you are My Face"
OMG LOVE your profile pic! 🎸
I had to rewind the first few seconds, because I thought I misheard xD
I liked the idea of the R-41 as a stopgap solution to a particular problem before the B-wing arrived.
The X-wing is a superb fighter - but its one operational drawback is that without ion cannons, it can’t disable a shuttle or transport (without wrecking its engines).
The Y-wing, on the other hand, has ion cannons, but is a lot slower than the X-wing, making interceptions of shuttles and transports difficult if they are fleeing at top speed.
The R-41 has ion cannons, and is just as fast as the X-wing, making it ideal for interception and disabling of fast targets (so they can be boarded and captured by a friendly transport).
The R-41 and it's sister design, the R-42(two seat Starchaser variant) is a great design, and you're partially right about it being a stopgap. More accurately, it fits more of a police craft role better than the X- or Y-Wings. It's a capable fighter with the capacity to disable craft.
Basically, this is the ship a planet's security force should have as their frontline, while planetary defense going to the aforementioned role specific craft. In addition, it would reduce the learning curve going from planetary security to planetary defense.
You should also add in the V-Wing and the E-Wing too. I remember playing a V-Wing from the Rogue Squadron game. Good times. 🙂
V-Wing speeder, yes (complete with cluster missiles, natch)
V-Wing was an airspeeder, and both the V-Wing and E-Wing were New Republic designs.
I'm only here to see what else I can build with LEGO, don't dis my B-Wing.
The B-Wing has always been my favorite ship from the Star Wars universe!
I feel like the B wing should be a heavily shielded juggernaut, not a vulnerable hit and run unit. The whole thing screams Il-2 Strumovik. And it looks big enough to support such defenses too.
5:46 I can picture the phone call with the emperor
Palpatine: *"Durable? High-Performance? Nah, lets have our brave Imperial-pilots fly around in unpressurised, unshielded metal balls with the pew-pew sticks on the front and a tiny little viewport so our mostly non-force sensitive pilots can only see forward and above."*
Now I know why the Rebels won, they got F-22s while the Imperials bought replicas of the Spirit of St. Louis.
In Legends this may actually have been on purpose, because the Imperial Navy practiced a kind of institutional Darwinism. New pilots would fly basic TIE-L/Ns and as a result, most of them die, so you only have the best of them left. They get moved to flying either bombers or interceptors for their second tour of duty and again, most of them die, leaving only the best of those pilots. Third tour they are flying TIE Avengers and Missile-boats and at the end of that tour, you only have a tiny handful of pilots from the original class at the academy. These pilots, will be terrifyingly skilled and hardened survivors and killers, because they are only ones who could ever make it this far and so they get the very best, most elite ships like TIE Defenders and Scimitar Assault Bombers. It's honestly a very Sith way of doing things.
@@weldonwin kind of love the darwinian idea behind their pilot program, but unfortunately it doesnt account for sheer dumb luck. Because theres always some lucky bastard that scrapes by because the rebel scum is too merciful.
@@custink22 And those who were aware of the policy and just held back during combat or found ways to dodge out of deploying. Imperial pilots called this "The TIE Flu" because of the number of pilots, especially officers who would try to get out of combat duty on fake medical grounds.
@@weldonwin yep. Proving that darwinism doesnt just select the best, but sometimes also the smartest.
@@custink22 Like I said, it seems like a very Sith way of doing things and just like the Sith having an apprentice murder their master and in theory prove they are stronger, it doesn't account for the apprentice just shivving their master in their sleep, rather than challenging them to a duel.
The turret of the H wing is pretty neat.
I loved blasting the T-Wing in TIE Fighter!
An episode on unique personal ships would be cool. There’s Vader’s TIE advanced, Kylo’s TIE silencer, Count Dooku’s solar sailer, Boba Fett’s Sl- er, his “Boba Fett’s starship” 🙄
For that matter, have you done a video on all the iterations of the TIE?
1:07 looks like a XP-82 twin mustang I feel like twin fuselage is kinda wonky but hey it can work.
The X-4 sure looks a lot like the Main Federation fighter from DS-9 and the Dominion War!
But unlike the glorified gunboats of Trek fighters in THIS verse factions know how an even rely on their fighter forces
I'll bet anything Saesee Tin flies the cutlass-9 because it looks like his head.
I want to see all of these in Squadrons at some point.
I would love to see a junk battle mode, where you fly a T-wing and the cockpit is flashing random errors or the targeting computer reboots from time to time.
The R-41 Starchaser is what I'd want to see the most cause it's both my fav ship and the stats it has are pretty good
That would be AWESOME!!!!
I actually have to pay special attention to these videos otherwise "ah-ah-aha-aha" would go unnoticed without a laugh
Could the Rebel Allinace have ever gotten their hands on a Venator class Star Destroyer? Or did Palpatine really scrap them all? Seems like the perfect ship for a fighter heavy military that constantly needed to be on the move.
I pitched that to EC Henry 👉
He liked the idea, but hasn't done that yet.
One can think that creating a Star Destroyer takes a lot of time😉👉
Yes, but also no. A single Venator could have housed half the starfighter corps of the Rebel Alliance - but it would have also taken about half of the Alliance to crew the (inefficiently-designed) behemoth. It would make for a pretty fragile - compared to an Imperial Star Destroyer - basket for a lot of eggs. One that would be a big target. Add in that most Rebel ships had hyperdrives of their own, and trying to get a Venator refueled would have been problematic, and the cost-benefit ratio is pretty weak.
I just watched your QA video from two years ago. You should do a new updated one!
I laughed when you said you were excited for the new Obi-Wan series. Still waiting...
Rebels motto: we’ll use anything with guns long as its cheep or free! Please???? Were broke and don’t have any credits…..
For whatever reason, the R41 has always been one of my favorite Star Wars fighter designs. Even though 99% of my interaction with them was just blowing them up in TIE Fighter.
You forgot to put an 's' at the end of 'starfighter' in the title. You're describing ten, not one. Otherwise, awesome as always.
Hey I love your videos, can you do more old republic videos please?
Hahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahaha haha. No that won't happen
I want to see some of the early rebel starfighter corp flying Aethersprites....
Without backup controls there no benefit having two cockpits over having the gunner inside the middle of the ship with a screen and weapon controls.
Grateful watcher. Very enjoyable as always 🇬🇧👍
Love your channel! Thank you!
*a bellbullab rebel squadron encounter the Devastator*
Vader: *clone wars ptsd flashback intensifies*
Great list! There were several I was unfamiliar with. Can't wait for the next one.
"Another episode of my face"
Never change.
Hello generation tech I was looking on your youtube page but it seams like the vid is in uploaded videos but not in all videos I think it is the reason for the low views I love your vids keep up the hard work.
"...another episode of my face." 😂
I have one of the original Lego starwars A-wing sets its in pieces but from what I remember it was preaty fun to build.
A video about the Lightsaber powered starfighters from the high republic storylines would be interesting.
Man, hearing that the T-Wing was a failure kinda hurts. It was such a cool looking starfighter!
On the other hand, it was a good addition to world building. Namely, not all starfighters created (no matter how cool looking) will necessarily be successful, some will be total failures despite *looking* like very good designs. _(which I'm sure can be applied to a ton of irl vehicles, who seemed great on paper, but sucked in practice)_
2:48. The Ferengi would like to talk to you about the design of their shuttlecraft that this resembles. The T-Wing looks like a Viper Mark IV from BattleStar Galactica.
I actually like the X4 gunship. I can see with some modifications, it being a good Hero Ship
Great vid GenTech, I like the T-wing. It saw alot of use with pirates, especially the Nami.
what no cloakshape? no fang fighter? (yes they were mando ships but the rebellion did still use them......with permission.....sometimes)
Bomber becomes rocket ship.
Suuuuuuuup, shout out to the Bens.
His face is the best known star fighter
What are you smoking, Generation Tech?!.. The B-wing is awesome!!!
i have to say the3 B-Wing is ridiculous but it was basically a giant screw you button
If the New Republic and the SW brand as a whole is so fixated on X-wings, I think the answer to keep them while saying fresh would be to have more distinct looking variants for different jobs, like the T-65BR. Have that for long range recon, one that replaces some sensors for an extra weapon hard point bellow the nose, maybe a version specifically made for Jedi in mind, etc.
You mean like the XJ X-wing, the Chase-X, and the Stealth-X, that sort of thing?
@@Worf- Yes, like those but a little more distinct looking.
Reminder that half of these fighter designs only exist because of the X-wing/TIE fighter games. And they look like they look because of the limited geometry detail those old game engines were restricted to.
I wish you guys all did Reaction videos like You Alan A.Ben do the Star Wars stuff the see B.Ben do reaction to the new Star Trek shows!!! I’d definitely come watch every video!!!
I sear the H-wing was released as a toy way back - it looks so familiar. But a search didn’t bring anything up, so maybe senility is kicking in for me.
The X4 looks like a Peregrine/Marquis-Fighter from Star Trek
The tie bomber isn't just a fighter with an extra compartment, it's the single best thing to take down a ISD after you've destroyed everything inside.
I would have said the Gat 12 skipray blast boat would have been a more important ship than some of those it was an oversized fighter in size with anti capitol ship weaponry.
LOVE THESE VIDEOS, THANK!
Isn't the X-Wing pretty much a combination of the z95 headhunter with somebody saying 'Hey we can get the features of the R-41 on a Z-95!'?
Which of course would be why you IMMEDIATELY saw both of these replaced by X-wings/almost never see the old ones!
See I feel because you teach so much about Star Wars Star Trek and others you definitely deserve more the 600 thousand subs. Or only 4K likes!!
Correction on the X4: 6 turrets & 2 forward facing weapons slots…
Thank you.
10:14 that’s basically a Pyro GX
Nothing beats the Eta-2 💜
Clone pilots executing Order 66: "Challenge accepted"
Basically the alliance used whatever they could get their hands on
Can you do a video about rebel tanks and ground vehicles.
Best intro yet.
Awesome thank you!
The blade wing prototype is brokenly op.
X65-BR basically a Star Wars EA-18 Growler
I think that you should make a dedicated video about uglies, talking on some of the most common types and the upsides 'n' downsides of each. I'd definitely be interested in something like that.
I actually love the look of the H wing tbf
Awesome video
I'm going to make a Y wing of my own one day and save everyone with my ion torpedoes
I love you Allen
The b-wing is not ridiculous, its the 3rd best attack craft the Rebels have after the x and a wings, not to mention its capital ship killing prototype
It's expensive, maintenance heavy, and difficult to fly. Those are not traits a cash-strapped rebellion with limited abilities for training fighter pilots is looking for. The rebels need a Toyota with a machine gun mounted to the truck bed, not a Lamborghini.
So you know how in the military, we have terms like "on your 6."? There is a star wars equivalent. It's when anyone in star wars says " fighters at point 5, " or fighters at point 3" or whatever, what does that mean? Like is there a chart or something? Or can we decipher from instances of the point system being used?
I like this series but you forgot K wing. K wing is a bomber like y wing. It was designed to replace the y wing as a main bomber after battle of Endor.
The Starchaser seems like my sorta ship. I'd have to get a good few upgrades for durability, though. Maybe I'd take a few parts from a Clone Wars era Y-Wing, or some other similar ship.
Starship go brrr
I think fight bombers are some of the coolest craft both in real life and Star Wars. It’s a shame they don’t get very much limelight.
I just got the notification and people posted their comments 13 hours ago
Still waiting for the C, F, I, J, L, N, O, P, R, W, and Z-Wing Starfighters in canon/legends.
You're harsh I kind like the B-Wing 😥
we are totally running out of ideas Disney, MAKE MORE WATCHABLE STUFF!
get us more of these star ships.
They had belbulabbs 😮
Hearing that only the most experienced pilots could fly the A-wing makes me feel good that I am LETHAL in an A-wing in _Squadrons VR_
I would absolutely want to pilot an A-wing in the Star Wars universe.
I won't again go into my custom starfighters I created when playing the pen-and-paper Star Wars tabletop game... all of those would fall into the "uglies" category. And, I won't go into how customizing fighters can be this and that... because this video is a report, a brilliant one, on how the original design mass-produced fighters are in their produced form, how they are used, and other details.
In WTF mode? Sorry. I'm about to make a point.
It's the Heavy Fighters issue... fast fighters that carry lots of guns and are heavily shielded but can be outdone by lighter fighters that can really out-maneuver them, especially by just flying behind them and shooting them down.
So, you have this superior fighter that is superior in all ways but it's maneuverability, right? And... that makes it lose dogfights, right? So... why not go ([insert nation name here] pragmatic) on that and apply a rear gunner with access to turrets and computer-assisted targetting on top of a heavy rear gun with someone besides the pilot doing that, even if its two other people in two other cockpits? I mean, if Strike Eagles can be superior to MIGs in that way, why not have that true (in spirit, not fully applied due to it being pretty much real Earth 1980s comparison) in Star Wars.
K wing pog
I think some of this ships . Where secretly design by dolphins
Could you do a video on the different classes of hyperdrives?
One problem. Short range and hyperdrive seem counter intuitive?
Allen having a minor stroke in the intro, nothing to worry about.
Nothing can stop me
@@GenerationTech You go, bro
Z 95
Y wing longprobe
Yes, the A,B,E,H,T,U,V,X,Y wings. (Did I forget any?) The Aurebesh alphabet of Star Wars doesn’t have letters shaped like these. The in-universe explanation is that they’re taken from the High Galactic alphabet (conveniently made up for this very purpose).
Supposedly an obscure C-Wing design from the Mon Calamari also exists, @Onli Wan Kannoli , along with a possible D-Wing and in one Tales comic, what looks like an M-Wing (larger Y-Wing relative)
@@chrissonofpear1384 Mmm, all this talk about wings is making me hungry. I think I’ll have some Z-wings, that is, Z-A-X-B-Y’s wings.
(Is there a Z -wing?)
@@onliwankannoli There is an Ugly called the Z-Ceptor.
You missed the K wing.
Can you do a video on the K-wing?
So I don’t get the H wing , Gunner AND weapons officer?
Also…. Why can’t they put redundant controls in?
i think allen a robot or atleast a under cover agent for dolphin rebellion
Music is a few decibels too loud. It is drowning out some of your words. Tell the video editor to lower the music track by a few decibels.
Today we explore: "Star Wars: The Search for More Merchandise"
I really don't get the point of seperated cockpits design. Really. I know Lucas was inspired by WW2-movies, but there, the Twin-Mustang was rather a makeshift-solution. In SW, you might think that 35.000+ years of space travel should make this type of design more than obsolete. No, no and NO!
im a casual fan of starwars that dabbled abit too deep in the lore, but i have a question, will they fill the entire alphabet with starfighters? theres from my guess more than 10 starfighters named after a letter
@generationtech Small nitpick but music and voice sound balance is off in a lot of places making it really hard to hear them speak. I love your vids and sorry to critique but wanted you to know to avoid the issue in future vids.
Hello there friends, welcome back, to another episode of my face!
What if the Republic ended the Clone Wars at the First Battle of Geonisis?
What's with the hate always given to the B-wing. Don't get me wrong. Love all the OG designs, but I've always had a particular love of the B-wing, perhaps because it looks like a juggernaut.
can you plz contiue the seprtiat alliance vs earth plz
