pos5-4 playing them well require super high iq. it's frustrating to know that you aren't doing well while you are playing. the skill cap for those roles are so high and that's why I always avoid playing them. to avoid my own frustration. pos3: sk, seer, tide, axe, mars. i feel like I can do every flex there is with especially sand king and dark seer. pos2: the opponent is VERY likely to be more skilled than me so it's best to avoid playing that. pos1: luna, pl, naix, ursa, jugg. can play sacrificial, can get greedy, can play the objective, can jack off in jungle. can always call to end the game, can always play for the next fight
Oh wow. I always play pos4-5 because I felt that 3,2 and 1 have the most impact through the game and I'm not confident and don't want to flunk those roles. Bear in mind I'm just a noob so getting a nice play with bane is enough to give me a taste of heaven
@@tfk2328 Pos 4-5 have very little resources, so their plays have a lot less room for mistakes. You die 5+ times midgame and you basically can't even enter a fight anymore cause you will die from enemy glancing at you. And if you take more farm to catch up in exp and get those items for survivabilty you might grief your cores especially if your team is restricted in space to farm already At core role you basically need to learn a hero (same depth as support) and learn to not waste time when u could be farming. Also to not fuck up first 5-10 minutes of lasthitting and after that it just the same dota
An underrated hero for the 4/5 position no matter the patch has got to be Shadow Shaman for me. The hero can teach you so much in that position such as positioning, target focus/cc, tower pushing, roshan timings, ratting, space making etc. He has everything that you could want as a support really and is pretty easy to start spamming at little risk. Ive played 100 games of shaman straight and he is easily my favorite hero of all time to play in any patch or position.
Shadow Shaman has my highest winrate. I love how hard he hits with right-clicks in the laning stage. And the healing from Shackles is a really nice little buff.
I haven't played in 8 years. Just getting back to the game now because I have more free time IRL. These videos are coming at the perfect time for me. Thanks for helping the new players.

I just started playing DotA a month ago, I switched over from League after 10 years. I feel like I've been doing pretty good because of my moba experience but there's a lot I still need to learn. I'm currently playing all the heroes I haven't played yet A-Z so I can have a basic understanding of what they all do. Would you be interested in a coaching session? I think it would be good content to see how well a 10 year League veteran can do in DotA as a new player.
Teach us about team compositions. By that I mean everything hahahah : * Generic team compositions and how they behave. How to form such a composition in the draft ? How to identify the team comp while in the draft / How to counter the enemy picks (this was covered in your video from before). * For what to look in the draft (so for each role you have an option which playstyle we lack/I need to cover and. So 3 or more playstyles , of course more but you get the general idea). * How does the team's timing strength depend based from the picked composition or carry & support synergy. Thank you
Fell like pos 3 is missing the "well I suck at laning but we get them in the midgame" big teamfight heroes that teach u to play around ultimates Also I feel like jugg should be on the carry list cause jugg is the single. most forgiving hero for New players.
I think Sf is still underrated tbh in mid lane. Usually before sf really had issues with scaling later into the game cuz he had no mobility. But rn his lvl 25 talent (attack damage +raze) just makes it waay more viable especially with arcane blink. Yes I'm archon and not some divine/immo player. But for those who want to gain MMR through mid lane then play sf. Having a 15 win streak with the hero. Just build threads Lance/sb(depends if ur crushing) bkb silver/daedelus(depending on line up) arcane blink. U get arcane blink by the time u get 25. Then u get a hex. Blow people up. Literally 2 razes kill supports. Disclaimer: this build is only for people below divine skill level.
I'm not sure about Tusk for low level pos 4. Maybe it's good for teaching the fundamentals, but expect to lose a lot. Honestly, at low levels I think pos 4 should just be a tankier pos 5 with some split push. Tree or shadow shaman maybe.
so these are not to be confused with "top 3 best heroes for each role this patch" but overall good to have in hero pool and for teaching you dota concepts

Great list but surprised not to see any teamfight / initiator archetype 3s in the list e.g. Mars or Axe. Not only are they fun to play, I'd say that's a pretty important skill for offlaners who are learning the game.

Hi i decided to switch from LoL to Dota 2 and your videos are very helpful ! Thanks for your awesome job man !. A lot have changed in dota 2 since that video, is this list still relevant ? Especially for pos 2 and pos 1 ?
dear bsj thank you so much for the every single piece of educational content you make sense it helps new and old players alike in a lot of different ways please keep up the amazing work . and thank you so much for your efforts ^_^
As a relatively new player myself I would never recommend Lycan or Legion to new players. Lycan's micro and Legion's large amount of active use items make them fairly difficult for new players. For experienced players learning the role, sure.
I think your last two recommendations for pos 2 are bad. tiny and the spirits get harassed out of lane too easily and have too many bad matchups. sure they can pop off, but it requires too much skill imo. they are also ganker heroes, which means you can to rely on your allies to some degree, and if you miss or mess up ganks you can straight out lose your lane to a hero (like lesh) that just farmed and pushed your t1 down. You also need a good balance of ganking movements and farming to make these heroes work. It would be redundant, but honestly i would recommend necro to a new mid player, for the same reasons he is good as pos 3. Many common pos 3's are actually more reliable for pos 2, compared to the flimsy, high skill spirits. strength heroes especially can make the lane much more forgiving e.g. DK and his endless regen. Reminder: this is in the context of suggestions to a new player, of course tiny and the spirits are amazing heroes for the role, depending on the situation.
How do u play TB in these patches? I find him almost unplayable. The lane is strong, but into mid to late game, all his damage ability is the 50 damage from the metamorph. And that's all, he doesnt have blink either. Sunder cant do shit to BKB and lotus. This hero must play actively and win early to mid game.
I don’t know man Ogre usage in lower ranks are kinda hit or miss. Most ogre support, if I don’t play him, kinda misuses him and resorts to farming and becoming a core rather than being a pure support.
I feel like micro-ing illusion hero’s is the big step for most players in this game. I haven’t tried any of them, because they frankly seem way more difficult to take advantage of than a “normal” hero. I look forward to the day I master Naga (or even attempt) as being able to split push like that is OBVIOUSLY the most powerful thing in a game like this. One day I’ll understand how to control multiple illusions 😊
