Been playing for ten years but have been waiting for something like this for a long, long time. These kinds of topics are just too fun and honestly I've been having a sort of identity crisis with my preferred role and how that relates to how the game itself has been changing.
As someone who spent most of my years playing pos 5 and 4. Now in my cynical years I've opted to go mid or pos 3 if that's not available. Just don't wanna have to trust others to get the job done and i like to just jump in and get the job done. Huskar, Bristle, Timber, and Sniper or QoP if I'm feeling toxic. I'd rather lose knowing I suck and need to get better, rather than feel like I did great and just had a bad carry.

definitely one of my favorite videos i've seen. amongst my friends i'm always the one stuck playing the hard support basically in every game, but with dota 2 it's such a slogfest cuz my friends really aren't all that great and never understand what we should do and what they shouldn't do even if i explain it so i've taken more toward pos 4 in more recent times and my god it feels like i'm doing way more than i ever did as pos 5..but then again, it's really just because i can actually do some initiating myself and enable my team rather than saving them 99% of the time and then them just dying anyways cuz they go back in

So after coming back to Dota I learnt that 7+ years ago I was a position 1 spammer. Now I realized my true and most enjoyed position is actually position 3. Thanks BSJ
man i love the carry role, if u dont have any items at min 60:00 in the game u can just type "no space" AND GET OUTA JAIL FREE! ITS SO GOOD, then mute both teams
it also works for offlane, just feed and say "space" then the carry will praise u while ur pos 4 gets so fucking confused
The meta of last two patches is the absolute worst for me, a traditional tank/stun offlaners main.

u missed a "sub class" in position5: disablers, who dont tank and dont heal... lion, ss, disruptor, snapfire, doc, cm.. etc

I like playing Underlord for he is Tanky dude, who can provide utility for the team via CC, and also potentially deal a ton of damage
That guy can turn into an actual pos1 raid boss if built correctly. The DMG passive from atrophy is very tempo dependent; imagine having around 300 damage after killing at least two heroes and a bunch of creeps, the survivors may try to focus on you or run away because your auto attack can hit like you have a divine rapier.
it would be great if you can categorize all heroes into these sub classes
I used to always play mid like 7-8 years ago, recently got back into the game and fell in love with legion. I would always try to play offlane and was haemorrhaging mmr. With the new patch I tried to switch to pos 1 and spam void, things got even worse. I finally switched back to playing midlane and i'm currently on a 12 game win streak. Its crazy how even after 3-4 hundred games in other positions, I can still only play pos2. I guess I'm just the main character.
Midlaner definitely feels like you're the MC lol. I remember being that person that everyone relies on and has to go to other lanes to start doing character arcs and anime fights.
It's definitely not much of a 'fight' when OD got enough farm after 10 minutes.
Pos 2 will also appeal to the leader/manager personality type. Not the most talented but the most knowledgeable. Sets up the team for success. Needs to recognize which lane will need gank help and which will need anti-gank protection. Plays around objectives. For the first 20 minutes pos 2 makes all the calls.

I've always been a team player on any game. I naturally fell into support.
Razor is a fun hunter, once you hit 6 you can gank and kill most lanes if youre not dumb. After that, smokes galore and just keep punishing people who come back thinking you left
Guys a bitch to kill too, given his good str stats even though he's an agi carry. No one wants to be next to an early game razor with a bkb
I like the "initiator" role. The go in fuck shit up or die trying role.
Dota is the ONLY game where I play carry / DPS. Every other game I play healer/support

This is late, but this is a mood honestly. I would spam position 5 before (mainly cm) often times ending up doing more to the game than the carry. I reached a point where I got fed up with relying on my cores when I was herald. Now I am crusader (not as impressive as you but it is still something I’m happy about seeing I only played rank for a year half of it as support). To explain I just was using the cm ulti at the right times more than anything the greediest I ever got was getting aghs on certain games.

@@MrLeva115 thanks a lot, I am mainly aiming for maybe archon or legend by summer of 2023, mainly because I am going to college next year so I want to sort of enjoy dota as much as possible before then seeing honestly as frustrating as it can be it is fun. Also when it comes to dumb cores I often realize based on my experience e people have bad days where they underperform no matter the position. Seeing the moment you as a support either forget to pull once or maybe forget a ward somewhere and so on or as a carry get too greedy when it comes to kills or do reckless plays people start snowballing the hate often which just gets carried over to the next games.

I wish there was an easy way to PRACTICE playing pos 1 consistently. Queuing unranked it’s often a fight between 2-3 players on pos1 and it feels like a waste to play 3 games and maybe get 1 pos 1 game in
The only real way is ranked role queue, unless you're well known enough that people give you your role
I should play #4, as this feels super natural to me. Unfortunately in pubs ppl want to have 30 min lane-phase followed by 30 min afk woods, teamfight, lose, no bb, blame everyone for loss.
Interesting take on genres ,I think there's many more classes U could of added based on either personality or game plan related . Like
Complexity ,Micro , simplicity, scalability like LC , slark, Silencer and pudge , versatility , Rampage capabilities .

Slippy pos 1 like slark jugg and invoker. Chaos creators pos 4 or 3 like pudge techies and Spirit Breaker. Area control pos 3 or 2 like veno, ta, and brood. Honestly I think their are some many different hero types that it's hard to think of all of them.

That's quite an interesting take to call Ench a "meat shield", even in the 5 position. I'd argue she's much more of a hybrid between that and the previously mentioned cleric group, leaning toward cleric
Personally I main Veno 4. Good harass and area control for the lane camps, only needing a spirit vessel and tranquils. Game plan got hit hard with the shard change though.

So your one of the guys that always loses me mmr. Veno one of the worst 4's out there. Your useless after 20 mins and ones in my bracket always rush aghs making them even worse and end up like 4-14 every game
@@Glenuig honestly I don’t doubt it. Sorry they rush aghs - imo best as harasser/lane bully and vision/sentries late game. Before the current patch my core build was Urn/Vessel, Tranquils, Aether Lens, Shard. I found he scales well with levels but not gold, and is excellent for denying/interrupting pulls which is why I take him pos 4.
@@Glenuig idk man, if you can get 2-3 heroes with your ult as a fight breaks out, even if you end up dying, your team ends up cleaning them all up after they use all their spells on you

Hey BSJ, i've been watching a lot of your content lately, and its wonderful! I've been wanting to explore different heroes, especially some of the micro intensive heroes but I have no idea where to start with them, would you happen to have any tips on how to micro?
I play tanky pos 3 who doesn't give a shit about people trying to hurt me, not because it matches my personality, but because it is what I hope I can be.
So out of heroes you mentioned, heroes I like are: OM, warlock, earthshaker, axe, tide, underlord, leshrac, brood, tiny, slark, luna, ck, wk, tb, drow, sniper. So what position should I play?

i whould like to consider most heros as Hybrid but good at one thing more than others...and items are there to make us good at our real subclass role...
deff a 5 player, making people tilt with low resources is pretty fun for me ie: baiting and spamming stuns
My fav Hero is Venomancer but I want to main pos 1. Always wanted to. Even though, my personality doesn't really fit that. You must be confident, maybe even cocky sometimes, thinking that you are the best player out of the 10. And I am none of these. I feel like a miserable piece of shit and my head tells me that everyone around me thinks this about me too.
But still, I play carry. It's kinda like being the underdog (Sometimes I am underestimated). But when the moment comes and you destroy the enemies, you can pull out the best Dota + voicelines :)))

i play carry not for center of attention, but because sometimes the carry is just some noob who doesn’t know when to farm or fight and no matter how good of a support or core you are your still gonna lose just because the carry sucks.

Veno can be one. It's a lane cancer if you play it right, it's rather consistent as long as you don't get ganked, flexible in builds also.
Plus, you can always fall back and farm ancients 3 minutes in as a pos 3. Or if you're playing as 4 and your pos 3 Batrider is absolutely destroying the enemy lanes, you can jungle in their safelane.
Veno is legit cancer, tbh. But I rather have him on my side than the enemy.

Jokes aside he is a hybrid just as much as tiny is. If you are good at it you will have a huge impact regardless. Either you run at them with urn cold snap you push towers with forgr sporits and alacrity or you farm to carry the game with midas and sunstrikes. You for sure have the options layed out. Be a right clicker be a majick slayer or just be a foookin poisonous bastard with ghost walk radiance xD
another pos 5 class know as the skill bot. Since their base skill so strong, their job is use all their skill before they die. I.e: Bane, CM, Disruptor, Lich
I think CM is much stronger if you just pretend her ult doesn’t exist unless you’re about to die. Like staying in the back and spamming Q and E is underrated as the fights drag on

Yes, SF is in the ranged nuker category, but it's technically hybrid because he hunts and can initiate with his ult.
