Lmao, love the new to the game picture :D Great vid as always, thanks BSJ.
Honestly for me these kinds of videos are the best content because it teaches us how to THINK about Dota by ourselves. We can always go demo/tutorial and practice last hits, pulling creeps, creep aggro and stuff. And while these are important things to do well, once you've mastered the basics/fundamentals to a certain level, it's the way you think about the game that matters the most.
No herald your wrong I’m 11k immortal your 1k herald jealous?
As a newer player that is familiar with other MOBA's I thought this video is brilliant. The thought process behind these item purchases actually helps me read into 'builds' that I would look up on dotabuff for example where I couldn't really understand the logic of it before. A similar video covering other roles would be something I would instantly watch.
Haha herald noob I’m 11k immortal are you jealous of me I’m amazing
Somehow you have developed a new way of covering already covered topics in a fresh way. I like it a lot recently. Keep it going :)
Great vid. Could you make a similar video about target priority in fights or your role as different positions in team fights. When should Pos1 jump supports in team fights? When should they man up against opponent carry? Who should generally initiate and how should others enter or weave in and out of fights? Maybe potential for a series of videos :)
He does discuss these stuff in his coaching sessions. Altho you'll have to watch multiple videos as there isn't a single video discussing all the topics you mentioned.
I would like this kind of video. If you can make it one with multiple example as this one of the farming item or the one of the bkb.
He do have a video about this, you have to search tho
I think killing the save/big ultimate support is always the best answer. If they have no save, quickly delete the core before bkb, then go for the helpless supports
@@MyChiliIceCream Thats why he asked for it lmao
I absolutely loved the insights from this video.
Playing dota for 13 years by just going GANK! GANK! GANK! I never moved up in MMR. I started watching BSJ and first learnt the importance of farming. But since I had never really concentrated on CS before, I went from Guardian 5 to Herald 2 just cause I had to focus so much on getting last hits that I was unable to keep a check on the mini-map. [Blamed BSJ for the downfall.]
After a month of practicing CS and farming patterns, it sort of became a part of my "muscle memory". So in 2 weeks I climbed up from Herald 2 to Crusader 1 just by always out-farming the enemy carrys. [All cause of BSJ]
I play in SEA region (i.e. 2 out of 5 games my team will have a hard support sniper! Well... so will the enemy team :P)
Most essential learnings from BSJ that worked for me in this bracket: Herald - Crusader
1. Pick heroes that scale well. 9 out of 10 games will go beyond 50 minutes in this bracket. Heroes like Shaman, Lion, Riki, Weaver wont be able to do much on their own once you cross the 40min mark.
2. Don't lose farm to get a successful gank where your win probability is less than 70%. (Early game)
3. Don't rage on your team for being stupid. It only deteriorates them. (Still working on this. This ones really hard :P)
4. Don't follow your team into obvious blunders. [This has some exceptions I think. Because if you follow BSJ, you would probably have out-farmed the enemy core by at least 3k. That would mean in a team fight you can probably wipe more people of the enemy team by kitting: just like he did with Sven in this video, if you stay back your team could just feed their carry and leave you to the almost impossible task of defending Mega 1v5)
5. You should fight/gank when you're losing; but farm when you're winning. [Will implement this now. Hopefully it would take me from Crusader to Archon]
"If you are new to the game.... *Grubby picture* " - that was perfect! 😂
bros so new i ain't even seen him play 7.36a yet.
So you wanna be a carry
gotta get that bling
Can you crit like a southbound freight train
Tell me just one thing
Can you shift queue in a word like a wyverns wing
If you need to
Can you juke, can you weave
Can you illu fake and deceive when you need to
Well you might as well quit
Cause you cant last hit
So you wanna be a carry
Do you gl next
I can tell if you've got it in you
Cause i out cs the best
When you tryhard and you sweat
And you bet that you train in timbersaw
Then you near lose your mind
When you find that youre not playing core
Well you might as well quit
Got bkb fiends gripped
Put him in the mk ring, joe
Look at what you found
This game is fun joe
Stomping noobs abound
We'll show him the ropes
And destroy his hopes
Hear the siren sing, joe
Give the noob a chance
He got poison stinged, joe
Veno's got d lance
You know he gonna quit,
Cause his team just dipped
So you wana be a carry
Wanna get that dub
We see a midas in your queue
Dont be a top scrub
If you listen and you learn
Theres mmr you can earn, and defend it
When you keep buying crown
And youre wraith king and a clown
A contender
But you might as well quit
Cause you're gonna lose it
He took my arcane ring, joe
Going to report
He's got too high a ping, joe
His farm is falling short
Getting flamed holding shift
He'll dc real swift
Using drows bowstring, joe
Cant kill a siege cart
Cant do anything, joe
And he bought a heart
If we don't tell him he will never know
He cant carry his internet's too slow
epic bro enjoyed reading that
i wanna kms reading that

I would add Boots of Travel to the list. I have found, in several scenarios, with heroes like TB, I've been able to carry the game because I rushed boots of travel that allowed me to kite a stronger early-mid game team but with low mobility and that allowed me to make my spaces to farm. Sometimes games are so hard that you have to go yolo. I saw this in a 10k+ game recently, but I can't remember who it was exactly, it was just a very high mmr game showing in the lobby.
underrated. i don't know what rank you are, but keep at it and try to think really critically on how to best use the item and how many applications you can make it work. i guarantee you are probably onto something that could be meta defining eventually. I think bots 2 is also worth considering, because of the lowered cooldown and lowered channel time. Here is my thought process: you have your initial idea, of a hero who can accelerate very fast with bots. now, for 2k gold, in some games, you can become a global haunt extremely early, maybe with an inbetween item after bots 1. Something like say, luna, brown boots -> mom -> bots -> bkb/manta -> bots 2, fight with level 2 eclipse. some food for thought :D
Thanks BSJ! I have a question about Armlet carries (Naix, WK, CK) - it seems like these heroes want to build Armlet as their first item most of the time; would you say that this is their farm accelerator, and their next item should be a survivability item? Or would you say that Armlet is more like when Ursa/Riki go Diffusal, and that it's a more aggressive option? Would you build Armlet on Naix if you also plan to go, say, Maelstrom?
By far one of your best how to play dota 2 videos, this is something I think I struggle with the most is items and I felt could have won me more games if I just knew how to use and buy them outside of the guide I follow religiously
if my school teachers could teach in the level that u do dotas i'd be a freaking genius right now
Finally something worth taking in with tons of in game examples and in-depth explainations with reasons for doing so
Can we get an itemization guide like this for other roles? This is amazing and I want to see more
This is perfect!! As a pos 1 player in my guardian bracket!
BSJ, my man, I'd like to thank you for this incredibly insightful video (as well as others) that completely change the way I think about the game.
bsj you're really helping the dota 2 comunity with yout content. can you make a video about choosing the perfect hero from your hero pool for the match?
Yeah I’m in the same spot. I try to follow all the bsj advice, but I think I’m at the level where my hero choice is the most limiting part of my game.
I don't think he would make such a video, but if he does, it would be 4 hours long xD
Though in order to know which hero to pick, you have to know all the 123 heroes, their spells, strengths, weaknesses, and their timings.
Such knowledge is obtained by playing alot, and I mean alot, of dota 2 games.
I just started playing dota 2 weeks ago and found this video super helpful. Would like a similar one for offlane and Maybe other ingame senarios like team fighting and target priority. Love the vids keep it up
Really good and what I needed as a noob thanks for highlighting items spikes at different stages of the game and the thought process behind them
haha, its wild to see a 1yr ago grubby was 'new' and now hes immortal. lol
Thank you very much for this video and the other youve recently posted. Love the chill approach and all the knowledge you present in a relaxed and logical way that is applicable to a wide range of players with different skill levels.
Very clear and effective, understand what questions you have to ask yourself and what to think, thanks BSJ
19:45 In my bracket, that razor is in my team, and will not let me farm there :)
BSJ: "... the more accurately you can develop this image of how exactly they're gonna kill you is really important..."
Me (every time I step outside my home): I agree.
grubbys picture is tottally clear for me. lol.
So happy to see him playing dota.
Always play full glass canon. Either you win hard or feed hard
THAT GRUBBY SMILE MAN, THAT's A POTENTIAL Ti WINNER RIGHT THERE HA!
Wish I had seen this earlier tbh. Just finished a game as Terrorblade, and went manta first thinking I'd be fine. However, I ended up soaking the CC instead because I was greedy with manta -> skadi instead of stronger defensive items. I was really far ahead in terms of gold too, so it hurt a bit more too.
RIP the Grubby picture
Back in Wc3 days we had a carry build. Make hearth+buriza and crystalis and it's gg.
Can you please make a video where you talk more about what items you would buy in different line ups? I found that this kind of educational content was the most useful for me.
"Time and time, again." Rings a bell doesn't it? 😂
Like the new content route you're taking bud.
And i wish you goodluck keeping up the tempo, it's gotta be brutal for you :)
Hope it makes your channel grow though, it should!
it's easy to get confused with your item choice on a carry, thank you for these guidelines BSJ
I think most decent carry players know all these, but most of us probably do it unconsciously. Voicing it out consciously is very important for the newer players so they can practice these ideas.
I also get crystalys as a farming + fighting item at start to mid game. On heroes like faceless void...
Man wish i could send this to some of my pub carries. Specially that one game I had carry LC who bought first item dagger and absolutely never participated in early fights. What a drag.
"We already covered why you need bkb on sven" (why the fuck was that??) "Because it helps me farm" (ooohh right, farm)
Really great video. Teaching more than just item builds but teaching the correct overall approach to dota and the founding concepts that should determine your items. Gold mate
Hey late to the party but this was a really concise breakdown, fleshed out all your thoughts on it well and I really enjoyed watching it for that.
I felt like I was slowly coming to terms with a few of these concepts, but I'm pretty low tier, this really helped consolidate my understanding of some of the early game decision making/itemization.
Throwing you a sub, can already see you have a bunch more vids I'm keen to learn from!
BSJ just wanna know how about in regards to irregular carry like BH for example. Whats the progression gonna be like?. Coz you build vanguard/hood so in my logic the survivability comes first and then you go aghs. And then aghs is gonna be like the farming item. And then you go damage??? Just want to clarify coz I cant seem to win while using BH. Alch/pudge/BB is no problem for me
A lot of stuff that is not said and should be but i do feel like im doing a lot of these things when i itemize and it does make sense
Oh gosh I play for 10 years and I can't think like that easily. I really have to train this! A lot of this also applies for any other pos in general, amazing content!
Nice vid..pls do similar item progression video for all roles especially supports
Number one limiting factor for farm, is Death. BSJ-2022
Love these new item analysis type videos, keep them coming.
Thank you for opening my mind after 14 years of DotA
Would love to see a guide on Faceless Void and how to itemize for him.
He made one already. That was like a year ago tho
Christ almighty did I just saw that WR's HP go from full to like, 30% in one hit from him? Was she always that squishy?
You are perfectly a great teacher , ur explanation & the way u present are make viewer comfortable also easy to understand a pro player point of view. wonderful video
What is the progression for Offlane? Is it cheaper items but same progression, or different order?
Bsj bro, your vids are so good man, can learn so much, keep up the goods!
Good shit brother, this is easy to digest and translate to carries on my team that I might be supporting as well.
Great Video, I love the use of items and reasoning part of the video
10:30 what should you do if your team is losing map control and they have a legion commander? You won’t have time to bkb if she blink deuls you and even if she does does you will die. Should you buy it anyways and just not farm and look for a fight?
you could consider Linken's Sphere so the duel doesnt go through
Great content, loving the new approach! Keep it up BSJ
I hope you make a guide for offlane and supoprt after this. These are super informative!
Great video, it ended too soon! I was hanging on all that wisdom.
Note to self:
1. When in trouble, rush BKB
2. If you're considering other items in that situation, don't.
3. If your hero doesn't traditionally build BKB, buy it anyways.
Cool video. Loved the Grubby reference)
I wonder how this formula applies to PA, who usually buys Deso after BF in a good game. Is this because of the 3rd spell giving the ability to farm somewhat safer?
That is simply reversing the kill item and survivability item which is bkb. A lot of pas nowadays go fury bkb then deso
Dunno why but I find BSJ a lot more likeable nowadays, seems like he mellowed out or something
I know he's a garbage hero at the moment, but am I right in thinking the farm acceleration item on a hero like slark would be something with mana regen like echo or falcon blade? Just to enable his dark pact spam?
very comprehensive guide. thank you for sharing this
16:38-Develop image of how exactly they will kill you
Eg 16:30
17:35 lmao? good one mr editor
Loved the video. Please make one SECRET FORMULA TO SUPPORT !!! PLEASE BSJ
This was very helpful, more like this pls
I dont quite understand how Yasha makes you farm faster.. Is it because of the movement speed?
yes
Plus attack speed and a bit of armor. Usually for Medusa, I know I'm ready for ancient creeps if I have yasha.
Extra movement speed and attack speed. Makes you clear camps and move to another camp faster.
@@ohmygusperez alright, ty :)
Ty bsj great content ,pls make a video about how to pick good carry for a game
Great video!! It really helps make item decision-making easier as a carry 👍
Thank you bro, you make dota a better game and community!
Great video! I hope you make a similar video for offlaners. I sometimes struggle itemizing even with heroes that i have been spamming since i started the game.
That pic of Grubby lmao
When's battlepass coming out, october start right?
It’s just the best content. Hands down. Thanks bsj. You da realist
how to apply this on mid and offlane roles?
this honestly is one of the best dota learning video
while your talking about blnk you almost taught how to play AM
So much information. Thanks!
loved the grubby mention
Turns out the secret was buying an account and boosting it.
Very informative, thank you! 🔥
but I love player that build maelstorm, battlefury and midas at the same time I've seen people when trying to boost low ranks haha
this video illuminates why you dont understand/play LD or AW, as they dont fit these paradigms. also 7:29, you talk about lockdown items for melee heroes but dont name gleipnir as a similar and viable option for ranged cores who already built maelstrom.
10:55 this face
My bro great video! What do you feel about a carry weaver good early game building deso to shard to linkens/bkb? I’m archon but i feel like i should be a legend and also I play like 3 games a week 😅😅
Best Dota item guide I've ever watched. Thanks Mr. Banana!
lmao he pulls up grubby photo
Amazing tutorial. Thx
They need to nerf BSJs advice. I feel like everyone in guardian is now better so we're all gunna stay in guardian going 50%
Really helpful video bsj, thanks
As you say BSJ, “very cool”
Could sange and yasha be considered a survivability 2nd item for example?
I'm interested to know when it's okay to go mega stats luxury trust your team, or play solo kills bkb kill item on carry heroes such as tb/jugg.
what enemy heroes instantly requires you to go bkb?
when i see sky+1 stun and a DB, isn't that a must bkb scenario, or you only delay bkb cause you had enough space to get aegis
A lot of the value in bkb is tied in to what you can do during your bkb. He mentioned that aggressive supports such as lion and zeus make bkb more necessary because they don't help you defensively, but they also give you a really easy time using your bkb. In the case of lion, if he gets stun + hex on anyone, you are probably strong enough to pop bkb and delete that hero because 1) they can't move and 2) no one can touch you. This is another reason why you see bkb on sven more so than tb.
On the other hand, Sven has a very clear time to use his bkb. Use ult, bkb, blink stun, 3 shot a support. While tb does plenty of damage, he can't exactly replicate this scenario. A bkb instead of skadi in his tb game would have, at best, given him a 7ish second window to hit freely
This video is a treasure,Good Job
thank you Brian you are the best dota 2 educational content maker out there
im a new dota player and im curious about the difference of dota and league of legends. Whats is most important(game change thing on most of the games), gold or xp?
There are mechanics that can win or lose your lane in Dota that don’t exist in LOL. like drawing creep Aggro, pulling the creeps to ur range creep in order to keep the wave closer to ur tower where u can safely farm or even set up ganks from mid on the enemy
I can't study for a test, but I easily can study dota. What's wrong with me!
Grubby!! Old war3 player gets shout out from BsJ!
It is great to see that farming your ancients while enemy is getting their wicked sick killstreak is fine kappa :D great vid
BSJ do you think its worth it to play against bots for training or other game modes like turbo? would love to hear your toughts on that. Thanks for the amazing content!
Nahh dont practice at turbo turbo bots i would choose bots rather tjan turbo
I think bots practice for some things are fine but please don't get used to bots because you will never be challenged and will get used to playing where it's easy.
@@pineapplescuddleduck yup i agree but still its better than turbo in my opinion since at turbo u wont learn how to farm and a lot of stuffs
@@midnightdj3350 totally turbo is not the way to go
Absolutely don't play turbo to learn Dota, the timings and dynamic of the game is completely different and you'll develop bad habits.
Great vid I feel like this helps so much with itemization
