Clearly. Being watching dota since TI2 and its great to watch the history again. TI2 and 5 were clearly the least interesting and the biggest fluke while TI3 and OG first TI were epic.
Thank you for this retrospective. Almost feels like this channel is a microcosm of my attitude towards Dota 2 as a whole. Feels like it just started yesterday, but in truth it's been a long time coming, and the amount of love that was put into it was more than I ever could have imagined playing Dota Allstars back in 2008. I was sad when DennisTheTall stopped posting his Dotaology vids, so these videos were wonderful for filling that void. Now that even these are coming to an end is very bittersweet to say the least. The effort you poured into this project was amazing man.
One thing that is Overlooked and could make for some awesome gameplay, is Dire Heroes versus Radiant HEROES. Before All Pick, there was Regular Dota. Dire chooses from Dire Taverns and Radiant the Radiant Taverns. APEM AP EM all became poopular and phased out the Radiant Versus Dire, but can you all imagine the Meta's we'd get if Hero's were locked to one side?
A great series that has come to its conclusion. It's bitter sweet, and I while I do wish for more, isn't that the best time to end it? While it's still desired and not feeling bloated. I did think it was odd you didn't talk about how the tower push meta of TI4 wasn't as broken as it seemed based on what you said in most of the other "Stories of" videos compared to what I remember you saying on your own channel. I distinctly remember you talking about how some teams did manage to counter it during the TI. Think you said in the Grand Final specifically. Always thought it was weird how strongly you came off about it in this series vs your channel. I haven't played Dota 2 much, my last time launching the game is 2017, but I have much more fond memories of Dota Allstars and it's interesting to watch these to see how a game I once played has changed over the years, also you are very good at setting up an interesting story board so that helps too. It assisted in me transitioning to LoL when some friends asked me to and I've made life long friends from both games, so Dota will always hold a special place in my heart, much like Wc3 in general. This series has made me think of some old times, some old friends and reminisce on it all, so your goal of helping the community not forget the past of Dota, has also assisted me in remembering some old times and I can only say thank you for that. Absolute Crazy Video both in quality and also Main events happening over the years. I came very late to dota 2 and started playing it in late 2021 because I always prefered League. For me its an absolute blessing to hear from all these Major stories and highlights + changes and also finally understood my brother saying dota 2 is really an amazing game (I always thought its clunky and outdated game, but playing a few hundred games completely changed my mind). Thank you a lot one more time for this Video and also for all the other people that keeping this game as it is.

I view TI8 and TI9 as one epic, interconnected saga. The story of OG’s formation, their incredible triumphs, and their historic achievement as the first back-to-back champions is truly amazing. Additionally, the drama between Fly and n0tail, and how it unfolded across these two events, added a layer of emotional intensity and made the journey even more captivating to watch.
man i remember looking the dota 2 beta key song back in the day but not remembering the damn title when i wanted to show my friends and then randomly 10 years later it gets dropped here. lol

Thank you Baumi for doing these series. I've played Dota 2 ever since the beta was released and I still remember back when you have to reach level 13 before being able to play ranked matches. All these are very nostalgic to me as Dota has changed tremendously over the years. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Dota for all the joy that you've brought into my life over all these years. The saddest thing for me is the last game me and my friends played together as a 5 man party and we didn't even realize that it was the last time we would play together. But everything good will eventually come to an end, and that is just a part of life. Thank you Baumi for all these memories, thank you.
Great video, I'll be honest though, I've been playing Dota 2 since 2012 and since I've experienced a lot of it, I found myself thinking "Oh I wish he'd talk about this and that" until a point when I realized that "this and that" were a seemingly unending list of things, and this video would have just been a year long if you wanted to get everything in there. But, I will say, the one thing that I miss the most, is Siltbreaker. That shit was so good man.

the thing in my opinion that made the choices for universal heroes make sense was that most of them were heroes that bought items that didn't align with their stats. Mostly it was heroes who built caster items while being strength or agility, like Dark Seer, Sand King, and Nyx, but it was also heroes who were traditionally supports that would occasionally be played as a attack-based carry, like Winter Wyvern and Vengeful Spirit. Looking at the current list of universal heroes, its mostly heroes that played position 4 at the time when universal was created, who would buy lots of utility items which don't really synergize with any attribute, often provide all attributes or multiple attributes at once.

Really great work! Was fun to relive a lot of that history I got to experience in person. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the Workshop, how impactful do you think the art community around the game has affected the development and longevity of Dota 2? At least until 2018 or so it seemed like the Workshop was a big contributing factor to engagement with the game. I know my music pack was incredibly impactful for me, really helped jump start my career. Not sure how much impact it had on players and the community though.

Regarding Dota: Dragon's Blood, the series was most likely to be announced at The International in Sweden, but due to the Covid pandemic, this did not happen. The announcement and release of the series took place at the beginning of 2021, which was a kind of wow effect, because few people expected that a series would be released based on Dota. Of course, I was skeptical when the series was announced on Netflix, but after watching it, my doubts disappeared. It is worth giving credit to Ashley Miller, he managed to make a deep plot for a person who does not really work with animation. Many may say that the plot deviated from the game Lore by only taking a small part from there, but the series was not supposed to completely follow the Lore, if it did, it would lose its uniqueness and we would not see such plot moves and turns in the history of the characters, the project itself, separate from the game Lore, serves as a good addition showing other versions of events. The main character of the series is Invoker's daughter named Filomena, her storyline is dramatic and at the same time contradictory, the character herself is beautifully made both in the children's version and in the grown-up version, in fact, most of the plot is built around her personality. Invoker, who balances from a crazy creator to a loving father, and in his actions, starting from the first season and character, resembles another mage from DragonLance, Raistlin Majere, who also used others to achieve his goals, could not create an ideal world and was left alone. I can understand the discontent of some fans and Dota players. Did Dota Dragon's Blood focus on canonicity? The fact that the events at the end of three seasons did not lead to the Battle of the Ancients is purely the expectation of some fans who were waiting for this, but got a new story that expands Dota in a different direction, allowing you to look at the characters from a different angle, the same Invoker in the game version, you can say, is a narcissistic and sometimes selfish magician who only wants to be the best and first in everything. The serial version of Invoker, yes, is also hypocritical in its own way, but also showed him as a loving father, who studied a lot not just because of the desire for knowledge and to be the best, in order to return his daughter and correct mistakes. Being still at a young age playing Dota, which was then only a user map (modification) for Warcraft 3, I would not have thought that over time it would be possible to make a movie, a series. When the Dota series was first announced, I personally was skeptical and the fact that it was on Netflix was alarming, but my opinion changed dramatically after watching it, the way the series was shown and the depth of the plot was introduced looked very cool and the third season with its emotionality raised the project even higher in my eyes and showed decent modern animation. Everything seemed so real, and there was no feeling that you were watching a cartoon series. Many people would try to save their loved ones against the whole world if they had such an opportunity, the most important thing is not to miss the moment and do not forget to say to your loved one or loved one “Do you Love Me”.
As a Dota player since 2004/2005. I really love this game. Unfortunately, most of the Dota 2 players in my generation moved on with life. I used to be in SEA and now in NA for 7 years. Unfortunately, the younger generation seems to be easily tilted and gives up easily. Also likes to blame other rather that seeing what they can improve themselves.

I fall asleep to this every night, and I'm very sad that this amazing channel has come to an end. I didn't watch it for very long, but i just fell in love with baumi's way of storytelling and the stories themselves. Hopefully once this channel is resurrected

I remember T6 i think it was the peak of my Dota 2 fan and casual player period as a student before moving on to the reality of work life. I miss those days.
i think i know why artifact got a surge of players. i forget when act 2 of skyfall dropped, however i know the pathfinder pack included a new soundtrack option. this soundtrack is made up of artifact music, meaning for everyone who owned it, staying in the main menu of dota 2 they are blasted with "aghanim's obsession", *a song so good it single handedly made a lot of people want to go back and play artifact again* (including me). edit: this doesn't explain the inconsistencies of the player numbers.
gotta say i'm surprised to hear you mention artifact. my hot take is that the game wasn't given a good chance, if it were free to play and had good monetization, i think vavle could've been actually motivated to update the thing. it's almost as if every part of the game was specifically created to hurt player retention rate. hard to learn and unfriendly to new players (which was everyone), no progression system and super expensive. every starter deck was weak and felt like they had many missing cards, pulling with RNG was awful and this pushed people into the steam marketplace, where buying a card like axe might cost more than some full games. which is tragic, cuz the game was actually good, it was just hard to notice because of all the surrounding issues. with testing, updates and prolonged support from valve i think it even could've been amazing. a cult classic with longevity that would be kept alive by a dedicated group of fans.

I'm gonna miss this series. Everytime i watched a video from this series, would make me want to play DoTA 2 more. Especially those specific heroes that i would watch at that time😭 So long Stories of DotA. I'm gonna rewatch every video as much as possible.

the thing in my opinion that made the choices for universal heroes make sense was that most of them were heroes that bought items that didn't align with their stats. Mostly it was heroes who built caster items while being strength or agility, like Dark Seer, Sand King, and Nyx, but it was also heroes who were traditionally supports that would occasionally be played as a attack-based carry, like Winter Wyvern and Vengeful Spirit. Looking at the current list of universal heroes, its mostly heroes that played position 4 at the time when universal was created, who would buy lots of utility items which don't really synergize with any attribute, often provide all attributes or multiple attributes at once.

I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the Workshop, how impactful do you think the art community around the game has affected the development and longevity of Dota 2? At least until 2018 or so it seemed like the Workshop was a big contributing factor to engagement with the game. I know my music pack was incredibly impactful for me, really helped jump start my career. Not sure how much impact it had on players and the community though.

Regarding Dota: Dragon's Blood, the series was most likely to be announced at The International in Sweden, but due to the Covid pandemic, this did not happen. The announcement and release of the series took place at the beginning of 2021, which was a kind of wow effect, because few people expected that a series would be released based on Dota.
Of course, I was skeptical when the series was announced on Netflix, but after watching it, my doubts disappeared. It is worth giving credit to Ashley Miller, he managed to make a deep plot for a person who does not really work with animation.
Many may say that the plot deviated from the game Lore by only taking a small part from there, but the series was not supposed to completely follow the Lore, if it did, it would lose its uniqueness and we would not see such plot moves and turns in the history of the characters, the project itself, separate from the game Lore, serves as a good addition showing other versions of events. The main character of the series is Invoker's daughter named Filomena, her storyline is dramatic and at the same time contradictory, the character herself is beautifully made both in the children's version and in the grown-up version, in fact, most of the plot is built around her personality. Invoker, who balances from a crazy creator to a loving father, and in his actions, starting from the first season and character, resembles another mage from DragonLance, Raistlin Majere, who also used others to achieve his goals, could not create an ideal world and was left alone.
I can understand the discontent of some fans and Dota players. Did Dota Dragon's Blood focus on canonicity? The fact that the events at the end of three seasons did not lead to the Battle of the Ancients is purely the expectation of some fans who were waiting for this, but got a new story that expands Dota in a different direction, allowing you to look at the characters from a different angle, the same Invoker in the game version, you can say, is a narcissistic and sometimes selfish magician who only wants to be the best and first in everything. The serial version of Invoker, yes, is also hypocritical in its own way, but also showed him as a loving father, who studied a lot not just because of the desire for knowledge and to be the best, in order to return his daughter and correct mistakes.
Being still at a young age playing Dota, which was then only a user map (modification) for Warcraft 3, I would not have thought that over time it would be possible to make a movie, a series. When the Dota series was first announced, I personally was skeptical and the fact that it was on Netflix was alarming, but my opinion changed dramatically after watching it, the way the series was shown and the depth of the plot was introduced looked very cool and the third season with its emotionality raised the project even higher in my eyes and showed decent modern animation. Everything seemed so real, and there was no feeling that you were watching a cartoon series. Many people would try to save their loved ones against the whole world if they had such an opportunity, the most important thing is not to miss the moment and do not forget to say to your loved one or loved one “Do you Love Me”.
As a Dota player since 2004/2005. I really love this game. Unfortunately, most of the Dota 2 players in my generation moved on with life. I used to be in SEA and now in NA for 7 years. Unfortunately, the younger generation seems to be easily tilted and gives up easily. Also likes to blame other rather that seeing what they can improve themselves.

I fall asleep to this every night, and I'm very sad that this amazing channel has come to an end. I didn't watch it for very long, but i just fell in love with baumi's way of storytelling and the stories themselves. Hopefully once this channel is resurrected

i think i know why artifact got a surge of players. i forget when act 2 of skyfall dropped, however i know the pathfinder pack included a new soundtrack option. this soundtrack is made up of artifact music, meaning for everyone who owned it, staying in the main menu of dota 2 they are blasted with "aghanim's obsession", *a song so good it single handedly made a lot of people want to go back and play artifact again* (including me).
edit: this doesn't explain the inconsistencies of the player numbers.
gotta say i'm surprised to hear you mention artifact. my hot take is that the game wasn't given a good chance, if it were free to play and had good monetization, i think vavle could've been actually motivated to update the thing. it's almost as if every part of the game was specifically created to hurt player retention rate.
hard to learn and unfriendly to new players (which was everyone), no progression system and super expensive. every starter deck was weak and felt like they had many missing cards, pulling with RNG was awful and this pushed people into the steam marketplace, where buying a card like axe might cost more than some full games.
which is tragic, cuz the game was actually good, it was just hard to notice because of all the surrounding issues. with testing, updates and prolonged support from valve i think it even could've been amazing. a cult classic with longevity that would be kept alive by a dedicated group of fans.

Thanks for such a great, high content channel. This videos got me back into dota 2 after 10 years of not touching the game, and I think that they made me a better (yet still terrible) player. It's crazy how a game could have changed so much, but remain true to it's main core and identity. Dota 2 will never die, because as you mentioned, the people will never let it go away.
