Me: keeping the lane equilibrium perfect
My pos 5: it's time to single pull!!!
Safelane loses most lanes in this patch so it makes more sense to do more pulls.
step 1: my support agro creeps
step 2: my support drag enemy creeps to my twr
step 3: my support contest last hits
Which in some games, the sp is doing something else and leaving us to 1v2 😂
They should make an arcade game where it's like king of the hill and if the creeps are closer to your lane/meet closer to your lane, you get points.
This idea is actually incredible.
Just make it reverse dota win conditions lmao. Kills still matter, items still matter, only now youre killing enemies so u can deny more than them lmaoo
Mini game for mechanics nice la
@@suntzu6122 exactly!
Very good idea lowkey
for the average dota player that wants to be 40 kills 0 deaths this isnt gonna be played but this is a very good idea for the few ones that may want to improve their skills instead of their avg kda
I've seen you explain this multiple times by just saying , "just replicate your offlaner" and now you give in depth explanation of you actual explaining. Thanks BSJ
In depth explanation of this scenario*
Step 1: Hit Enemy Creeps
Step 2: Hit Friendly Creeps
Step 3: Hit Enemy Heroes
Depending on the hero you can nuke the wave down around level 3-5. Dawn is pretty good at taking out a wave if needed.
My toughest part of the entire game is my laning phase. I always feel like I lose lane, and have to play catch-up. Hopefully this’ll help me win my lanes a bit more often
Becoming better at last hitting, improve your early game item choices and learn from matchups!!
this is so oddly specific yet still super helpful and mind blowing
The point of the video is it's not oddly specific at all. This happens basically every laning phase
I will tell you this I started dota 2 3 years earlier only but still what these pros are thinking before every single step the mechanics result is so different than the beginners game
Amazed by the brain behind these small small mechanics and these are countless
It's a whole new universe
Finally someone is explaining the wrong thing i do every single game. This is the answer why im always mess up my lane as a carry. Thanks man you are really good. Keep it up.
Does anyone have any ideas how to prevent the first wave going into your tower? if the enemy doesn't block and you don't block the creeps end up right outside your tower, and then the enemy draws aggro which makes their melee creeps go onto your ranged which is usually under tower. The only way i have been able to prevent this is pulling aggro as well back to friendly melee creeps, but i basically have to walk at the enemy for a couple seconds so their creeps will reaggro friendly melee creeps. During that time the offlaner will hit me as well as me taking dmg from 3 melee creeps.
Actually it’s not the worst thing to have that first wave push out anyways. You can use this to then ward camps and create space to prevent them warding the camps. Then you work on pulling lane back to your tower. Now.. in terms of your problem, you are probably getting way too close to the creeps to draw agro. Try practicing drawing agro from further away so you’re not getting hit by the creeps. This way you can maneuver the creeps without risk of running into the enemy.
@@JSE4 you should also get level 2 first and depending on lane matchup can pressure hard and regain control
You can maybe try to aggro up/down (Dire Radiant) and pull the creeps far enough that your ranged creep moves out of tower range but I honestly don't know...another thing maybe is just let their melee creeps follow your melee creeps and hit them, and then once your ranged creep moves out of tower, then draw aggro to your ranged creep. If your creeps follow the enemy, theyll have less hp than the enemy creeps cuz they took dmg while attacking the enemy ranged creep. If your creeps stay hitting the enemy melee creeps, the enemy creeps should technically take the same amount of dmg that your creeps took.
Stand right outside tower range then they will aggro to u
STand outside the tower and tank the creeps till yours get there
Do this for the pos 4 and 5 role thanks
Every tips and tricks fail when we have a sleeping princess in our jungle.
what did BSJ actually do to aggro the enemy creeps to his range creep here 8:28 ? thanks
I was wondering this as well, I seemingly have to click right on enemy hero to draw aggro when it seems like he clicked in the general area but with no heroes even showing on his screen
If you look closely, he quickly clicked on minimap and right clicked the enemy hero (bottom left, hidden by the face cam) then get back to his hero view.
Dont get confuse as there are 2 mouse cursors (1 from the replay view)
@@bslsk.o so you're telling me that you can creep aggro by clicking enemy hero from anywhere on the map? if yes, then im wrong for thinking that the enemy needs to be near their creeps as well.
@@bslsk.o good eye I totally missed that, I thought for a moment you could draw agro by clicking on mini map
@@uaena182 the opponents position doesn't matter just yours
its very hard when your support keep attempting to hit enemy within their creeps aggro, always fk me up
man this makes sense. Thx bsj
ur videos have been soo useful, can u do a video on how to get high mmr claribration for a new account?
Yeah I dont get it. I won all but one of my placement games in a landslide with a 3.0KD+ ratio in majority of the games and got placed guardian and just pubstomp most games.. I'm not great but I'm at least archon or whatever the one above that is. Guardian is pain lol, half the time the hard support picks bloodseeker or my mid picks a support and goes carry build 😵
As alwaz awesome much deeper insight into lane equilibrium, though I and other doters would love to see ur intake and help ( may b in the form of a video itself) on what to do for the same equilibrium management when enemy support either 5 or 4 pulls the lane, block the pullable camp from either side , or just goes away to roam for rune, gank mid or stack wtever, which happens quite a lot in around crusader to archon bracket...help us here..BSJ...
make the video for midlane bro
This was a great video! I knew that keeping the creeps near your tower was important, but knowing how to do that (other than pulling) would sometimes be unclear.
Very informative, thanks my guy.
Phenomenal video BSJ!
Also from the midlane perspective, I’m not coming to your lane if you have it in the wrong spot. It signals to me that you don’t know what you’re doing and its easy for a counter play to happen.
Much appreciated insight on wave manipulation BSJ, definitely one of the videos of all time!
So the play here is for the offlaner to make creeps meet right outside of tower range, wait for the carry to mirror it, then right click the carry to aggro the creeps and drag them under tower.
Arent u then just killing of your creeps while the carry is not, which results a creep equilibrium favor to the carry?
@@Meepo_The_Geomancer he's implying that if the enemy carry isn't watching you but is keeping the creeps outside of their tower, you can screw them by instead killing the creeps fast under your tower so you have the larger wave and can freely harass the enemy carry. Which in turn means you can push under the enemy tower too and have your next wave meet under their tower to quickly kill that wave. This in turn slingshots the next wave of creeps meeting at the offlaner's tower as your wave died so fast under their tower, it simply takes an extra two waves to get it to that point.
Assuming the enemy is paying attention though, this won't work as they will mirror you. So at higher skill brackets the actual best play is to have the creeps you've dragged meet where your own ranged creep isn't under your tower. Then aggro the enemy creeps onto your ranged to kill that off fast, this completely denies the enemy exp or gold for that ranged creep, and it'll strongly influence the creep equilibrium to push towards your tower as your wave is now sans ranged creep. The enemy carry can do this too but I never normally see it as the enemy carry doesn't want to be tanking those creeps while being away from tower as it's dangerous for them, your support can normally bully them to ensure they at least stay by the edge of their tower.
@@shardj5151 It does rely on your enemy not paying attention quickly enough after you do the play I mentioned, though after the waves meet in front of the tower it becomes a priority to last hit the creeps instead of just kiting them around a bit, so it requires more effort on the carry's part to pay attention both to the creepwave next to him and whatever shenanigans you're up to. Now assuming a good enough carry of course they can counterplay the counterplay, that will be the case for practically any play that can be made, but I do think that in general the play I mentioned could be a neat trick to have in your repertoire to occasionally catch someone off guard.
@@Colopty oh it definitely is, I quite like doing this if I'm playing a kill lane with a hero like razor and just got level 3. It allows for aggressive play and some diving, and then you get the equilibrium slightly in your favour. Ideally after you just put a nice dent in the enemies' hp from the large wave + potential dive.
Thanks, BSJ, appreciate you caring about us noobs. I (Herald) however have three questions:
1) (more of a recommendation) It would be helpful for such a video to know which perspective we should be taking (like are we the Ursa or the Razor?)
2) 2nd example with the drow who dragged enemy creeps (wrongly) into her tower: I wonder how exactly should she do it differently? at lvls 1-3 creep hits actually hurt. So how can she pull creeps away from tower without losing too much hp (as bloodseeker you dont really have to care about this since you lifesteal back to full health no problem but drow or ursa dont have that option).
3) as BS: how did you pull aggro to get enemy melee creeps to hit your ranged creep? i didnt see you clicking on enemy heroes!?
Thanks!
1: replicate what he did, give a peek and if you can try to always deny the ranged creep
2: she has decent armor and she can run in circles so she takes less damage
3:he did rightclick enemy hero, it takes less than half a second when youre used to it and he had it on x2 speed in replay so a little harder to notice what he did there
Thanks man, appreciated! Much to learn I still have...
What about cutting the waves to take the tower faster? Or I just should not do it?
It depends on situation by a lot
Even at 4k pos5 is still fucking with your perfect creep equilibrium. You tell them to stop and they leave you to 1v2.
Great info! How to get the aggro at 8:30?
Agro works globally
You can find an enemy anywhere on the map and click on them to start the creep aggro. In this case he does it very quickly as it’s on fast forward
I have a question how to creep aggro when there is no enemy hero on your lane?
Look at another lane. Creep aggro works on any enemy hero showing on the map if you're in range of the creeps you want to pull.
Yeah you just right-click another enemy hero in a different lane. Especially useful if you're trying to proc HP from legion commander's passive by getting hit by creeps, or if playing mid melee vs range and they're on top of the hill.
BSJ
what do i do if I'm an offlane and I win my lane but all the other lanes failed miserably.
I try to make space but I can't 1v5 either.
Cope
This comes off as very underwhelming advice, but usually in Dota there is another factor you could have controlled more than you thought you could. In my low mmr games I've noticed a lot of my team will blame each other for sucking when the reason we're losing is 1) The enemy team counter picked way better 2) we squandered a lead with a HG push that should have been avoided.
Other than that, you should watch BSJ's smurfing series. Especially the ones where he plays support in low mmr games and still wins. He'll pick Jakiro and not even show up to 4 of 5 team fights because lane clearing and tower pushing is a better bet.
What happens in my lane, I walk to hit creeps. the offlane heroes jump me and smack me up. My support goes to ward. lost lane
You should be watching what your lane partner is doing. Unfortunately, it is a lot to handle during the laning phase but this is APM related more than anything.
what do you do as a carry or offlaner when your support pull?
Report
You tank the creeps under tower. Support gets solo XP from the camp and you get solo XP from the creep wave. It’s a win win. Try kite your creeps behind the tower so you’re not taking poke damage from the enemy heroes or risk them diving you.
depends on the pull! if its a single creep pull ill take try and keep the creeps just before my tower for as long as possible for the value. If its a double stack ill just take it straight to my tower. keep in mind if its still a single pull creep most supports are greedy and will want to keep that extra gold from neutrals, so if you get harassed bring the creeps straight back to tower
(Support point of view) Depends on the pull. I usually pull when the creeps are pushed closer to the enemy tower and the mistake carries make is trying to farm the creeps close to the the enemy tower. Then proceed to die and blame their support.
If I do pull when the creeps are close to our tower, I do a half pull and deny their enemy ranged creep. Carries complain but overall they don't understand they are winning in gold and xp. The lane may push but if yhe carry is good they will mirror what the support is doing and kill the enemy creeps quickly to even up the creeps.
As long as they don't get a pull. Your lane is won. At some point your both at a higher level and stronger then you just bully them together.
Hope this helps. :)
You can also just tell them not to. But, you should expect them to leech xp off of your wave then. Sometimes it's necessary to stop their pull by speaking up like if you're against a nature's prophet who is throwing treants at you and the wave constantly.
huge huge huge, always ran into this exact scenario and never quite got it down
Thanks alot for the insight!
But how do I win mid
Izi
Kill opponent midlaner and take their tower.
Block well, have wave on your hg, deny more than enemy and win
You don’t you give up or play pudge
Love tid bits like this

Can you talk about the recalibration? I just came back after 3 years and i want some info before i'm going to recalibrate. Thanks
Don't worry, the hc will just creep block the first wave under the tower anyway and then blame hs when they auto attack all the creeps and push the wave.
why do you say this only applies to sidelanes? I guess there's more occurrences of "shoving out" the mid lane, but as a mid main theres plenty of points in the first 5 minutes where I think this lesson applies, depending on the matchup.
Probably since mid lane has interactions like getting bounties and water runes
@@Cursedone12 yes the flow is a bit different, but almost everything bsj said still applies. people can and will static creeps so they arent dying under tower, and you have to be aware and act accordingly. there might not be as much room for adjusting lane equilibrium in mid but it still matters.
@@auto1nfanticid3 it might be cuz you don't have as far to look to see what the enemy is doing with creeps, so you don't usually miss that crucial step as much
Because where you want the wave in the sidelanes is a near absolute rule in the early mid parts of the laning phase, you always want equilibrium in front of your tower. Only very specific heroes will change that desired scenario. The mirroring that bsj talks about just doesn't apply in a lot of mid lane situations and can vary so much depending on the match up. In the midlane with all of the deliberate wave shoving many heros do in mid and the plays around the runes, it results in mirroring being a non-issue, desired, or not desired on a case by case basis. Sometimes having the waves ping pong from tower to tower is what you want, sometimes you want it sat on your side of the river, and sometimes you want to shove the wave to secure the rune or even pressure the enemy under their own tower if you have kill potential.
w00h00 i finally finished this playlist!
There's a video with this idea already
This is easier for the cores if there aren't stupid supports who does not know positioning and creep aggro. They only play support for role queue next game. This is why it is harder to grind as a solo even if you're good.
Gonna watch this like 10-20 more times lol (as a 2k mmr).
Thanks BSJ !
I have the exact opposite problem. I usually win my lane, do well in mid game and then get destroyed in the late game.
do you think you're utilizing your early lane advantage? or do you think you're giving the enemy team enough time to recuperate?
@@edward222100 I usually try to play around my team and start fights with outnumbered enemies. After that I push the lane as far as possible. Then I usually take 1 set f rax and the enemy comebacks, because I simply get focused every single time and in the majority of cases, my team can't deal with that. I play a lot of LC and Pudge as Pos 3 if you are wondering.
quit diving HG just because you have aegis

is this the most complex game in history? feels like the most I learn about the game the more it surprise me. Sometimes I wonder how it evolved this much? like.. when it got created does Eul or Guinzo or whoever, were they thinking about all this things or its just an "accident"?
These are what we refer to in the game design business as "emergent properties."
They're very common in higher-complexity games. Did you know that the combo system in Street Fighter was originally an unintended consequence of frame data?
It wasn't until people figured out how to string multiple moves together that Capcom realized that it was an inherently cool aspect of the game that they added the combo counter and made it a "feature."
Creep aggro was a by-product of the original WC3 unit 'autopilot' behavior, but it has become such an intrinsic part of how DotA is played that it's now a fundamental strategy.
TLDR: they almost certainly weren't planning for creep aggro management to play such a strategic role in the game, but as players started to figure the system out and use it, they've adapted and built additional content around it.
@@caedwebb it's freaking mind-blowing.. Thanks for your reply!
Something that is pretty crazy is I started playing chess online recently and it is 100% way easier than Dota 2. Now, I'm sure part of that is the team aspect, but it goes to show how little credit video games are given for their stress on your mental stack. Someone above mentioned fighting games. Those are similar in that they put a ton of stress on you mentally. I once made a comment about how Street Fighter was like chess and a boomer just laughed at me and mocked me for it and I was like, "Man, this guy has no idea."
@@animal10.05 Dota GrandMaster > Chess GrandMaster
@@animal10.05 Mental damage is absolutely a strategy in fighting games. It works the same way as the clock in chess.
If you give a player enough time to think about their move, they'll almost always make the optimal one. Once you limit their thinking time, they start making mistakes. If you can overload their mental stack with threats and options, the conflict of time vs. attention forces more mistakes.
This is why chess masters often have very different rankings in normal ELO vs. Bullet Chess (1 minute clock) ELO.
In DotA, adding things like "Earthshaker has a Blink," "AM has Manta," or "Enigma Refresher" to the game state can force mistakes, because it's just a lot of data to hold in RAM all at once.
Love u man
you are right about everything, but the thing is: ''sh*t happens'', somebody always messes up something, no matter how many knowledge you have. Just like in any other sport, players know all the rules, tactics, but somehow they still lose the game disasterously, lul ^^
thx
I learn a lot of this
And then, your sup 5 pulls The aggro and fuck up your creep balance...
I love the explaination ofcourse in the lower MMR brackets (where i am since playing Dota on and off since beta) usually even if you try and do this.. The support or some other doofus autoattacks creeps and pushes the lanes in.. However i used to pull the creeps back to my tower but with this i'll keep in mind the 3-steps!
And add to that when your pos 5 picks a carry and ruins the lane/game
Or when your mid goes afk after losing mid
BSJ doesn't cover this because he has no fucking clue about lower level dota. He is a fucking joke
What if the drow is waiting to see what the legion will do and the legion is also waiting for what the drow will do? They both AFK and tank creeps :3
This is very hard to do, the concept is easy to understand but hard to implement
Is anyone confused by the creep that just went away after killing range creep 2:16? Like just f it amaouttahere gonna live peaceful life now
Thank you sir!
I love you BSJ
Bsj is understanding
The thing is, my enemy watches this video too😶
Well played!
And you get all this right and the other person in the lane comes and nukes the full wave and autos the enemy hero from in the creep wave...
Poor Ceb. U can scout with mini map btw...
Even if you know this perfect and try apply it in the best way possible. As Pos1 you have no control over your Pos5 mindfucks pulling camps when the equilibrium is perfect. Also pos5 using spells on creeps or doing small mistakes just fucks up your lane big time. Cant control the lane only by yourself unfortunately this strategy works most of all when u are party with the 5

As much as this advice may be correct; I've never seen anyone do this. Also, if your support is pulling, then all this kinda goes out the window

Stop overexplaining
This is cool and all, but what do you do in a Crusader gamer ( I had this climbing up and it didn't happen nearly as often higher than that) when your pos5 decides you are bad and goes to gank or single pulls. If you try to hold wave infront of the tower , you die because enemy will jump you. If you drag creeps under tower, lane pushes and you die when you go and try to draw aggro.
Like in low mmr I just decided to pick heroes that can jungle lvl4-5 and not try to win a lane, since after 2-3 wins are row usually enemy were good and the support just ruined.
I'm ~3.5k and supports are often still shit in this bracket, I've been having a lot more success once I swapped to carries that are either lane dominators or can jungle very well. Jugg, blood, aba, ursa, sniper, that kind of thing. If your support is a trash can you can still recover and have an actual game. If you pick something like spectre that needs a good lane and you get a garbage support your game is basically fucked before the 10 minute mark.
