  • Hi All,
Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo Update - First 1000 miles done already and what a fantastic car! Here are my honest feelings on the car so far and charging has been faultless from a 7KW charger at home and several charging points used.
Hope you enjoy these videos and feedback is appreciated - more coming soon!

To switch between tracks from the wheel....put the right "tube" on the instrument display into "Media". Then press/click the right selector wheel. The Media display will then show a list of tracks/radio stations that you can scroll through and select (with another press of the right selector wheel). If the list is particularly long, you may have to scroll to the top/bottom, select the first/last track and repeat the process. (With a bit of software development this could be a lot better...but it works OK).

I do like your honest opinion and your videos. The only problem I can find was the lack of that lovely noise. I've looked after many super cars. What I liked about the Porsche I had was the exhaust noise button. Brilliant.

Great video Richard. Re the internal space for driver issue. I'm 6ft3 and slim (14'5 stone) and when I sold my RRSport in Feb after 6 years, comfort was a key consideration as I sometimes do 10-12 hours journeys. LR for me have always been fantastic on seat comfort (D4, RRS etc) and I tried hard to go down hybrid or EV route and did drive a Taycan and loved the concept but was amazed at lack of driver space for what is a pretty damn big car. In the end bought a Cayenne which had the 18 point (vs 14 point normal) seats and that was pretty good though for me still not up there with RRS for comfort..now got a crazy deal on a s/h Velar which gives me the flexibility I need (off road/winter conditions etc) for what the car does plus comfort almost (not quite) at RRS level. I love the tech/speed etc behind the Taycan and great to see it delivery genuine range quoted etc but for me unless you have (a) higher speed charging at home and b) fairly predictable schedule then EV's just not a viable option unless you have at least a second car.
Hoping to get my Velar JLR updates done after Xmas, I'll let you if a any issues. Glad to see channel doing well

I configured the diamond button on the wheel to skip forward a track and the short cut one on the right hand side of the dash to go back a track.
In my opinion the rwd is still the pick of the bunch for my day to day stuff. It does move around when pushing on at the rear and is more keen to turn in than the 4S, just feels nicer hard to explain.

Sorry to say the only way to change channels or tracks is by using the PCM. Not only tall people but if you’re slightly larger than an average person, you’ll struggle to get into the front! Good to hear you love the car, I absolutely love mine too - I’m hoping to do a deal on a new GTS this week which should be even better than my 4S.

I'm browsing the ad's for a Taycan, just found these videos .... interesting take, I love the comment about it being a happy car, great to hear. I've been driving solely EV for 6 years, I was prepared to put up with any compromises as I felt it was the right thing to do to set an example to the kids and maybe encourage others through my experience (that worked ). I've ridden into work (push bike) on and off for 40 years, raced a bit and got sick and tired of the pollution, you can taste the metal in your mouth. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer just over 2 years ago (all good post op so far), no history in the family .... you have to wonder.
Any ho, charging has been up and down as EV adoption increases and the network catches up. One of my neighbours is the CEO of major UK charging company, they are trying their best but there are a number of obstacles around planning and DNO's to overcome. I've owned a model 3 for almost 4 years, driven it to Liguria in Italy 7 times, the charging is faultless. It can be done, everyone else needs to up their game.
On the subject of which, Porsche dealers and chargers on the private side of the site! What genius came up with that. I was told that is going to change in the future. Porsche are now rolling out their own bespoke charging sites, the penny has dropped. Facelift Taycan early next year, 106kw battery, improved efficiency. You may see 300 miles out of the facelift, it will be interesting to see if the wh/mile mproves.
Road trip it to Europe, France isn't bad now, Germany is good (for charging that is), Holland and the Scandies are excellent and I think they'll be great GT cars. Meanwhile I need to decide if I'm going to take the plunge next year or wait and buy a 1 year old Highland Model 3. We also have an ID.3, awful software, bit of a worry with the VW group, especially coming from the Tesla.
    All the best

Thanks Malcolm, I have enjoyed it so far, not had many problems with the Range. The lowest I have had locally is about 50 miles to go. The massive plus is I that I have seen the range increase on longer journeys with the Taycan. I cannot see me changing the car at the moment. Richard

I have the Turbo S CT and wasted a lot of money, you simply cannot use that much power regularly enough to make it worth the extra money! I should have bought the 4S but there were no build slots when I ordered the car in Feb 2022 (delivered Dec 2022). I've done approx. 6,000 miles and it is by far the best car I have ever driven. Quicker than a McLaren 720s and yet, 4 wheel drive, 5 seats and superb air suspension - a stunning piece of engineering.

if you let go off the gas pedal, does its regenerative breaking actually make it stop or does it roll until you tap the break (in order to activate the auto-hold break, if it has something like that but i suppose it does)

Or even better, home charging. People wanting 600 miles range think they need this when it’s not the case. If you can charge from home you’re laughing and charging infrastructure is improving constantly. People need to just experience an ev once to see how it could work for them

@@Challengetheroad OK. For me, and many others I’m quite sure, this is the sort of content we want to see as well. It’s clear the car is great. But the real fear and worry I think is the entire long trip experience, from using the app to plan, to charging along the way, the ease of paying for the charging, the navigation to chargers from the in car PCM etc. Personally I have a Tesla Model S which has been an absolute joy to use for long trips because of how easy Tesla make it to navigate to chargers and the entire charging experience. For me to move to Porsche this sort of content would be incredibly useful to see.

Biggest fault is the range. They shouldn't be selling big cars like this when they can't even match a petrol. Needs atleast 400 mile range even that isn't really enough. I'd have an ev if it had 500 to 600 range.

In the UK, the number of people daily driving 200+ miles is in the minority - less than 5% of drivers, drive more than 15k miles pa, and across Europe it’s even less.
I’d imagine the number of people driving over 500 miles, who can’t stop for 30-60 mins, is very, very few. So why would a car manufacturer target a car for this audience 🤔 Especially when the battery to cover this range would be extremely heavy and expensive.
Genuine question - how often do you daily drive 400 miles without taking a break?
