i love the video watched both the review end to end and i think this is my pick for a camera. i will be fishing in the used market though.
one thing i was concerned about that no one touched on are the still shot quality. not needing 70d stills but ones i can proudly post on sites that will look better than ones on my iphone 6. do you think the camera picture is comparable say to a Panasonic g7 or something of its caliber?
Good review thx. It is good for shooting family and kids outdoor. I don't want to carry around heavy stabilizer when out with kids.

How is the focus on this? I ask because I have an RC RUclips channel and I can see the stabilization is great, but being able to have the autofocus work well on moving objects is also important. Your thoughts?

I just bought this camcorder yesterday, while it has great video quality, 4K is a new technology. once you compress the video for RUclips, quality will reduce, correct? I'm looking into vlogging and occasionally would like to take pictures. what do you think is better, keeping the ax33 or getting a a5100 instead?

I've just got this camera, and have been shooting in 4k 60mps, with BOSS turned on and all the other setting to auto. However when I pan I get some horrible juddering around things like windows or trees which almost make it unwatchable, I notice you don't suffer from it too much in the video. Do you have any advice on this.

I used light works for editing.
The video slows down and skips when editing

Hey Jay, how does Sony FDR-AX33 compare to the A7rII, A7sII cameras, RX10m2 and Rx100m4. The Sony FDR-AX33 sells for $798 now at B&H. I figure if the video is as good as those others. That with my A6000 for stills camera, I'd be all set with the Sony FDR-AX33 4k Camcorder as my goto for my video cam for 4K and HD.
+myrk98466 The video quality is not as good as the A7s II, A7rII in Super 35mm Mode, the RX10M2, or the RX100M4.
The sensor is very small in this camcorder, so where it shines is the amazing balanced steadyshot system, and optical zoom range, plus ease of use. The IQ results are pretty good and combined with the other features make it a great alternative if you all want is video and hand held is important. The other cameras are not as good in this regard and require a bit more effort to get smooth hand held video.
I would look at the RX10 Mark II as apposed to the FDR-AX33 if you want better IQ. The zoom range is less, and hand-held won't be as smooth, but the video quality is really good! ruclips.net/video/8ZMZoEL2r0Y/видео.html

I just ordered my Sony FDR-XR33 from eBay for $508.00 the camcorder itself is used but is in Mint Condition that's right I got it half off from it's original price! :D
i see several videos where people use 95mbps sd cards whil it can record in 100mbps. what sd card do you recommend to use with ths camera while shooting in the 100mbps 4k mode?

I'm going to be majoring in filmmaking, and I wanted to get a better camera than the one I currently have (a Sony HDR-XR160). I'm torn between the Sony FDR-AX33, or something from the Sony Alpha series (such as the a6300, or one of the A7's). Which would you recommend? Thanks.
Hello and thanks for the comments. I'm nit sure what yours goals are with the filming, but the larger the sensor, the more depth of field and separation you can get from the backgrounds. Full frame will give you super shallow depth of field, compared to a small sensor camcorder like this AX33 for example. I would consider the Sony RX10 series as an option for sure! That 1" sensor is pretty large and combined with the 24-200mm f/2.8 Constant aperture lens built in, it makes a great video camera for the money. The version one is awesome, and the version II has 4k plus slow-motion. The version III is not the same lens though, and more optimized for photography than the first two generations. The lens is also super smooth when zooming in and out. If you want an even larger sensor, then the A6300 w/ the 18-105mm f/4 OSS G Powerzoom lens would be a great combo. It's not the best for long term filming though and has been known to overheat. The A7 series is also awesome for the full frame sensor, but the cost is much higher and it's harder to get accurate focus with such thin depth of fields sometimes. I would also consider the Sony FDR-AX100 or HDR-CX900 camcorders for sure! Those would be the best camcorder options from Sony for the money these days in my opinion. Hi, I've got the Sony Fdr-Ax33 camera. I've got a problem. When I shoot 20 minutes or longer videos, when I transfer my videos to the computer, my videos are divided into two. Example: 20 minutes video is displayed in two separate files as 10 minutes on the computer. How can I solve this problem. I want my long videos in a single file. I don't want every 10 minutes to be a separate file. I want my long videos in one file. I would be very grateful if anyone helps?
Does this camera shooting mode is slow motion?
+Rik Agona It only does a maximum of 60fps, so not really great slow-mo abilities. 60p will allow you to slow the footage down by half speed. The new RX10 II has 960fps, 480fps, 240fps, as does the RX100 IV. See my RX10 II review here: ruclips.net/video/8ZMZoEL2r0Y/видео.html

That's what I just paid for this unit... Just the unit though, no accessories. 35 bucks for a couple of batteries and chargers, 19 bucks for a charging cable, 30 bucks for a 128GB SD card...
Judging by this video it's a powerhouse. Can't wait until the accessories arrive.
