- How to fix a bodice that stands out, gap in the bust of a bridal gown
Sometimes the bodice of a gown fits in the back, but not the front. You don't want to just do a standard take-up and cause some "squish" in the back. This video covers the way to adjust the fit in the side seam.

The razor blade unpicking has blown my mind why have I never thought of that before!
Lol. Im glad it helps. I have a whole video about it. Check it out! :)
This was wonderful, I used this to fix my daughter’s dance dress. She’s 12 & wears a 32 DD in the chest-but is TINY everywhere else. Her off the shoulder dress had the exact gaping you showed us.I thought darts but because it has boning -everywhere I thought about putting in a dark looked “off”. This made more sense and didn’t effect the boning. Thank you so much !! I’m just a mom and sewing is NOT one of my skills but your video was so straightforward that even I could duplicate it. That speaks volumes
Yay!! ❤️
I love that you’re explaining how to fix this kind if problem but it would really be wonderful to see a before and after picture or video of the dress.
I've used this technique SEVERAL times already and it has worked wonders each time! so much easier than a dart! I absolutely have dreaded bust darts and have not had to do a single one since you've posted this :)
Thank you for sharing this. I need to alter my daughter's prom dress and I think this is what she'll need! New subscriber here!
You are so skilled, but your creative mind takes us to such a higher level. Thank you for these great videos.
Wow. Thank you. To God be the glory. He gave me an unusual mind. Sometimes it makes things difficult for me, but in other ways, it can be a blessing. ❤
ie: don't ask me to balance a checkbook, or remember a name or a birth date! 🤣
This video is a gem!! Thank you! Exactly what I was looking for!!❤
Thank you very, very much for this tutorial. You gave me the solution to my problem and it was a whole lot easier than I thought.
The light just went on in my head! Lol…. Thank you for your tutorials!
Lol, I love the x over the back fat roll!!! Great video!
I recently started learning to make bodices as I want to make my wedding dress next year, I noticed a little gapping in the upper part of my top, the neckline just looked floppy, I'll try this out and see if it helps!
Interesting! I would never have thought to do this.
Thank you so much, you’re a life saver❤️❤️
This is what I need to have done on my wedding dress and I'm having such a hard time finding someone with good reviews to do it!
It's a dying art!
Great tutorial 👌
You are great at explanations. And very quiet.
Thank you - I am having this exact issue right now!
Love love your videos! Thank you very much!
I always wondered how they would fix that on the wedding dress shopping programs 🤔
Enjoyed that. Sound was better also. I was wondering how did you do the outer layer, was it turned outside?
rell whye thank you again for telling me about the sound. Yes, the alterations are always done inside-out.
Wow! That seam allowance is perfect! Excellent tutorial. Keep it up! ❤️
I'm curious if you can do a tutorial pertaining to plus size bridal dresses and figuring out the proper fit for more curvier girls who might have a large chest or common problem areas when altering for larger bodies. I can't seem to find blogs or any info online that pertains to this. I was recently commissioned to do a plussize wedding dress from a close friend.
Alex Yarally this vid is def helpful for a plus size fitting. This is very common for plus size girls. The most prominent rule of thumb for fitting plus size is that it usually takes more fittings, because as the dress is fitted, the body mass/shape begins to shift due to the new pressures. So, just be patient with yourself and notify the bride that fitting the body of the gown may often take as many as 4 fittings.
I looks like magic🧚🏻♀️ . I need a similar simple trick but when there is no side seams and the lace is one piece also☹️ my sister needs help with here wedding dress 👰🏻 please.
I can get down into detail on projects through email, if you like. (On my website.) There's a small fee, of course.
💜
Hoping I can use this technique for a gap in the back straps that are seamed to the side of dress
Oh, I use it on back of straps allll the time! 🤗
@@BridalSewing thank you So I have not found your e-course. Can you direct me?

Thank you great help but how do I put it back together
Put the top seam under the are
I have a dress like this that I will alter. The cups are big and pointy compare to the breast size. So the dress sticks out a lot at the front. So far I only pinned the front cups and also had to pin the sides as it was slightly to big around as well.
To confirm what was said 2:35 minutes, in the order of operations, this is done before doing the bust dart, am I correct? Thank you.
I usually adjust the general size of the gown first before I make detailed shaping changes like darting.
Can you please make a video on how to fix a dress with a zipper for a female with a swayed back. Plus, one shorter/lower shoulder then the other. Hope I'm not asking for too much.
Supposing her waist size was perfect. Should we cut till the original waist point? Is it fine
Yes
How to take it the sides when the dress has pocket?
Ahhh! Good idea! 💡
@@BridalSewing thank you so much
Hope to see video about this soon😍
Would this work on a backless dress?
I do it this way on them, yes
what if the back really dips down and after taking up, the side seams at the top dont match, and to blend you cant lower the front side seam....what I did was to add a piece to raise the back to meet the front side seam..quite the job with lace and beads...
Yes, sometimes you have to do that. & sometimes you have to take it up more in the front than the back.
Hi,
Question, what if the dress had that stiff upper edge running underneath the arms? That’s where my bride “wings “ out. I have already taken up the appliqué at the hem so she can wear her sneakers now the bust looks horrible. Should I angle the bone as well?
Eliana Argiro i often have to shorten and tip forward the angle of the boning. The stiff bodice edge under the arms is usually just from layers of fabric. You may still just need to dart the bust. I still have to do that quite often. This type of side seam adjustment is not a fix-all, but rather, just one more thing to have in your arsenal. I need to do a bust dart vid! But, it is not very complicated.
Most gowns have the lining top stitched at the bust. When you take in the bust, do you go back and top stitch the lining? If so, do you have a easy trick for that?
@@BridalSewing You don't feel it's necessary to top stitch by machine?
No mam. Actually, many of the very high end couture gowns I work on are top-stitched by hand. But every seamster has to do what works best for them & their clients. So, you do you! :)
@@BridalSewing I appreciate and value your opinion. From this point forward I'm hand stitching!!! :)
To me, it saves time, & gives that personal touch. 😁❤
I didnt understand the ending when you said you had to repeat it 4 times 😭 2 on the side seams and wheres the other 2 from? The lining?
Yes. You got it!
How can i do this with a corset? It's like a lingerie one, and the cup is size b and i am an a. Is it posible to reduce it?
I think you are looking for what is called a small bust adjustment. ruclips.net/video/o-0az9nitAw/видео.html
There are several ways of fixing this.
@@BridalSewing omg thank you so much for replying so fast! I will definitely try it on my bustier :)
Just be careful. This is an advanced sewing channel. I don't have any way of knowing your skill level. Good luck! :D
Can you give me a work experience please
Ugaso Hoosh I'm sorry, I don't understand your request. Can you reword it?
Good Morning, my daughters dress is like this and would like an example of the righting stitch to make the bodice come in at the top, she doesn’t need the side taken in..Thanks in advance
