Are there specific tools (tool kits) for shops to put between the two sides of the control arm so that they're not squeezed together or do you have to find a fitting piece of robust metal yourself?

By the looks of the control arm, I would have just replaced the whole thing, they are pretty cheap as a complete assembly, but it was a good video if you just needed to replace the bushings.

Good Lord...Those arms are SOOO rusty, why waste the time? I think you can get new ones cheaply enough.

those arms aren't rusted enough to alter the integrity of the metal, it's merely surface rust. unless you live in arizona there's gonna be surface rust. put the new bushings in and go. save your money.
