I about cried when you realized the OST kicked in. Got full goose bumps at the same time you did. :))) Thanks for the wild, joyful ride through the DS games.
Was a blast to watch! As with the Twin Princes this fight also has small details that show the insane brain of Miyazaki. For one the death animation of the Soul of Cinder and Gwyn are the same. Also Gwyn's theme is played only on white keys on the piano because he was so afraid of the dark. And for sure firelink GS, I used it for the DLC's and had a blast with it, even if it's not the strongest weapon.
Man, it's so bittersweet that we're so close to the end of the Souls games. These episodes have been so much fun to watch, and has become something of a routine to have an episode to watch after work and soon the journey will be over. I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed watching you play through every Soulsborne game, so I just wanted to say thank you for this series, it has been a blast and I can't wait to see where you're taking us next!
@@euanruss6822 That's true and I am very much looking forward to them, but the Dark Souls trilogy in particular holds a very special place in my heart and I will miss seeing him discover the things I discovered and being just as amazed at this world that Miyazaki and the team has created and the interconnected lore surrounding them.
You friggin rock, Mati! Todays my birthday and this was the highlight. You never let us down. There are a million different play styles with these games. The one you’ve chosen is the path of pain. Soul of Cinder is NOT easy. You want to be leveled the heck up and go in swords blazing. That’s just my opinion though.
YESSS! YOU DIDN'T GET SPOILED! I was sooo scared you would have the final boss spoiled for you. Your reaction gave me goosebumps in a way I haven't felt since I first saw the second phase myself years ago. I love this series, and I can't wait for your Ringed City reaction!
Recently watched a playthru with someone who has 650k subs, and have to say, your version is more enjoyable and better edited. So glad the YT gods decided to throw your DS1 playthru in my feed months back. Been a fun ride, but will also be fun to see you branch out and tackle different styles of games, as well.
The reaction to Phase 2 Soul Of Cinder Theme was exactly what I hoped it would be, the moment we all waited for since episode 1 of Dark Souls I, it's beautiful
*plin plin plon* Enough to make a grown man cry... Also, I don't know if you have missed this but the fire keeper says "grant death to those who linked the fire in lordran"...and that's the soul of cinder.. An amalgamation of all those who liked the fire in DS1 (lordran)
DS3 was my first From game. I was really bad at it and didn't really understand the mechanics and systems of it and this boss literally took me days to beat. After beating the other games and deciding to play it again...his defeat was much quicker. It was really cool to see how much i'd improved. That's the real joy of these games.
I’m almost a year late in commenting, but I absolutely love how thoroughly you explore the areas. As a Souls veteran who just ran screaming through every area, it’s awesome watching you filling all the lore holes that I’ve only heard of through Vati
Howdy friend, I mentioned this on one of your earlier ds3 videos, But it’s so cool to watch someone genuinely enjoy one my favorite games all the way to the end. I’ll have your ds1 and 2 on in the background for the next few weeks 🤙🏽

Man, after being here for the other From playthroughs, I have to say this series seemed to fly by and I don't really want it to end. They just dont miss. Edit: man, Mati's reaction when that piano kicked in was worth the whole series. Beautiful.
SoC is an amazing final boss. Can't wait to see your reaction to the initial plin plin plon, if you remember it from Ds1 that is lol. I'm super stoked for the next ep, but I want to say this just in case: be on the lookout for secrets in the next ep, particularly in elevators, there's a pretty important secret in the Ringed City that is easily missable.
amazing play through!! wish i could appreciate it as you do. the way you listen to the music and watch the bosses moves and trying to figure out the lore is so cool. i will have to play these again and try to do that to get more out of these games. most of the time i have no idea who someone is or what is going on in the story and how things connect lol. i panicked played all these games and my frustrations distracted me from appreciating everything. you are amazing mati. i did skip forward through many of your deaths though as it did become quite repetitive.
The lore behind Soul of Cinder is so cool ''Soul of Cinder is an amalgamation of previous Lords of Cinder such as Lord Gwyn and the Chosen Undead (assuming they survive and manages to link the flame in their world), and every other character who has ever linked the First Flame.'' Yes, canonically Soul of cinder is every Lord that has ever existed in the Dark Souls universe, including every player that has ever completed the game and chosen to link the fire.
I love how the Soul of Cinder changes movesets, really reinforces that it is the amalgamation of previous Lords of Cinder: a knight with the longsword, a cleric with the spear, a pyromancer with the scimitar, a sorcerer with the catalyst, and then finally Gwyn the First Lord of Cinder. To think, Soul of Cinder could have had moves borrowed from the Abyss Watchers, Aldrich, Yhorm, the Princes, and then Gwyn. This also narratively shows that there have been more than who were resurrected by the bell. Although, one could wonder why they weren’t all resurrected. That said, I wonder what stats I would need to emulate at least first stage Soul of Cinder…
Awesome video as always Mati! I'm excited for the Ringed City in the next episode, and for the continuation of Hollow Knight, and eventually for Sekiro. Lots to be excited for around here.😃
Enjoy the games, just don't let it eclipse every other franchise like so many people love to do with these games. People praise From software like they cured cancer, just enjoy them for what they are.
One of the things I really enjoy about watching these videos and the community you've built up is there is a lot I knew, but also lots of things have been pointed out that I didn't know before! So I'm also finding out things for the first time and going back to my own playthrough to try them for myself I hope you're feeling alright man! Take the time if you need
I laughed so hard watching Mati walk into the final boss fight without an upgraded sword the first time thinking it was going to be easy. The chat really set you up to fail for our entertainment. 😁
Same here. And then when he got close to the end of the first phase he was like “alright we almost got him” and I’m laughing like are you sure about that? Just waiting for the reaction for the second phase 😂
Mati, I'll say it again and I'll always keep that feeling no mather what. You're such a breath of fresh air for us all in the Souls/RUclips community. Your ways of doing things and playing these games is simply perfect. I'm always excited to watch a new episode and now that my favorite game of the trilogy is almost over I'm REALLY hyped to see your opinion on Sekiro, which might be my 2nd favorite game in the Souls-like saga. Thanks again for your work
Apparently Mati has a kink for cock and Ball torture, at first going in with near to non upgraded weapons ;D He kicked 9 times this episode making it 252 times in total.
Lets goo Mati. Cant wait to watch this man! I need to tell you that this is one of the best communities I have ever seen on youtube. So wholesome. Keep doing your thing Mati!
It's not an exclusive, actually. It's Soul Stream, which you can pick up after killing the Outrider Knight in the Grand Archives. Takes like, 60 Int to use, and I don't think Mati even looked at it after he grabbed it, but yeah.
Sorry that you weren’t having the best day when you recorded this, but the fact that you came through and made another amazing video as always shows your dedication and love to what you do and myself and everyone else is so grateful. Believe me though, this guy wasn’t a walk in the park for me either but I was using a plus 5 broadsword so I kinda asked for it lol. Can’t wait to see you complete this epic journey and hope everything is okay bro, long may the sun shine
I'm glad like so many others you made the connection back to Gwyn, and his moveset is EXACTLY a replica of his fight in DS1. A bit if lore for you, Gwyns soul, that started the age of fire, and linked the first flame, is still in there! In the flame, fighting to keep his dying age going, until the whole world is so fed up with him prolonging the inevitable age of dark, that the freaking sun had turned into a giant dark sign. Gwyn is the first, and last problem in the world, if he had just sat down, and let the age of Dark, the natural order of things, take place? Maybe things wouldn't have been so bad. Edit: Also I IMPLORE you Mati, for the two final bosses of the DLC, use your greatsword? You've been so reluctant to use it, and the last two bosses, are most definitely the hardest to kill. So please, use the weapon you've neglected for most of this playthrough? No one, absolutely no one would fault you for it, not one bit.
It was sad for me when I realized I was almost done with the game. Truly bittersweet. Also, major props to you for recording and editing this despite having a really shitty day. Hope things get better, as you're awesome, Mati. Praise the sun! 🙏🙏🙏
It's Poetic that the final boss of a game all about the Age of Dark is Gwyn. The plin plin plon hits so hard knowing who it is and what we are about to do
thank you for taking my advice and listening to uncle gael's dialogue 😄, i love that you take your time to read all the comments and i think that is what makes this community special
Hi mati no spoilers but here is how you trigger endings 1. link the first flame, this will trigger Yurias ending which is the one you´ve been following. (marrying Anri). If you had summoned Yuria at the battle of soul of cinder you could have gone where Yuria stood to collect her gear (Black set and Darkdrift) 2. Summon fire keeper next to the first flame after giving her the eyes 3. Summon fire keeper next to the first flame after giving her the eyes and killing her during the last moments of the cutscene. 4. You can reverse all of Yurias questline by giving the fire keeper soul to the fire keeper. This will give you a new option to "heal the dark sigil" wich will reverse Yurias ending and you will have access to the default ending by linking the first flame without summoning fire keeper.
My favorite part of this fight is no joke, the fact that no matter where you are in the OST, it has a blended transition ready to go for phase 2 theme. Really impressive OST composition in this game and Bloodborne particularly in that category.
Excluding the DLCs, Soul of Cinder is one of my favorite final bosses in these games. The background with the eclipsed sun staring at you, the variety of switching between movesets that represent the different builds of players, the concept of a boss being the manifestation of everyone who linked the flame (including your character from the 1st game), Gwyn taking controll for the 2nd phase and the Plin Plin Plon at the end for the series to come full circle. What a powerfull way to end on.

i have seen some of your elden rings vids also, agien so cool to see how far ur come. :D would be cool to see you tackle that game agien. I guess it will be fitting to hit it at the dlc :D
Thanks for the great episode, I hopped on here again! I think the editing and cutting is much better, and it's cool to see you taking the time, and showing all the your reactions and taking the time to read the descriptions etc. Cool stuff man! The boss fight was epic, and fully agree on the OST, the piano always got me as well, made it very "finale" feel.
Great fight, I don't think you were overlevelled for it though. Around level 100 is good for endgame, but at the end of the day it's about having an enjoyable experience. You got to see all of SoC's moveset, which is what you miss if you blast through his first phase with something like Guts' sword. Thanks for the great content mate
I suffered a lot with this boss. I remember my wife came back home at the moment when I killed it and I literally had tears in my eyes and was yelling and growling some bad words. She said: what I see now is discussing 😂😂😂haha. You go through this game with a lot of story lines complete and of course level is crazy high. Having a lot of tips and tricks helps a lot from the channel, but imagine going through this with not even youtube videos or google questions. It would be a different caliber of suffering I think. You did great with going in slowly and building it up with a variety of choices in your weapon arsenal ❤ pure joy to see you going through these types of games for sure. Keep growing! You will have your audience growing with you👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
dark souls 3 will always hold a special place in my heart as it was my entry into fromsoft's games and seeing someones reactions to the bosses and seeing them be the same as when i played is always amazing
Fun fact about soul of cinder, it is the culmination of every single person that has ever linked the fire, including any of yours throughout the series
Loved the video Mati! Congratulations for beating Soul of Cinder ❤A fun fact: the Soul of Cinder armor has parts of the elite knight, since that was the default player set for DS1. It’s basically recognizing that the first player character of DS1 became the second lord of Cinder. Pretty cool! Good luck with the DLC! 🤠
I had an existential crisis after I finished this game. I was in a transition phase in my life and I picked the let the fire fade ending and was like "welp a chapter of my life is over".
@@orangecobraEU In my humble opinion letting it fade is the best ending. just like how DS1 I'd say linking the fire is the correct ending. Mostly because it encapsulates the themes of the entire game.
Before choosing an ending you could USB or cloud save your data, then watch an ending, erase save data on system and re-transfer it from like a USB stick to then try another ending.
I just made the 100% on DS3, watching you playing and have such a great reaction with this final boss fight made me remember the first playthrough. Wish I could forget everything about the game so I could play it again.

Bruh thanks for a Friday upload. For what it's worth, I can't imagine people NOT preferring 2 hour long videos. For someone that works full time that might take 2 or 3 days to watch fully.
I love everything about the soul of cinder fight as far as I'm aware its the only time fromsoft have ever confirmed a boss' meaning; The soul of cinder is you from DS1 or more technically an amalgamation of everyone who ever succeeded in linking the flame vs you the amalgamation of ash from everyone who failed to link the fire, its just such a poetic arc, one of my favourite bosses is still yet to come though and I'd argue its the most important storywise too a lot of unanswered and forgotten questions get addressed and its special in a way similar to Aldrich with that theme of conveying a character that acknowledges the state of existence and enacts their will in to *your* story in a way where they seek to change everything
The Mati recipe works - the collection & exploration before a boss fight is always as enjoyable. You’re awesome, purposely making the Lord of Swiss Army Knife a rather challenging show. I was actually way too OP for him in my 1st play-through, and this is actually my 1st time seeing a lot of his moves.🤣
Good fight, SL93 is not overleveled for this fight. It is my opinion that this game is much easier with greatswords or other big weapons because it staggers opponents more easily, so I'm glad you chose a different weapon. Yes, it can be hard, but I think this was just perfect. Well done. Looking forward to the last 2 videos.
This and the next videos i am STOKED to watch! I also can’t wait for him to play Demon’s Souls and Sekiro! I really think he should play DeS next, and then be completely blind sighted by Sekiro with it’s combat. It won’t take long at all, because DeS is arguably the easiest of the series, and the remake for PS5 is one of the prettiest games ever made.
36:25 i know the majority will pick sekiro, but regardless it would make sense for demon souls next to finish up the souls series, because no matter what anyone says or desperately wants to believe sekiro is in no way at all a souls game other than being made by the same company and demon souls would probably be finished up within 10 parts anyways
@@Triple_MMM its already to easy and boring as a first souls game, now that hes a half-vet, hes gonna blow thru bosses and it wont be as fun to watch as sekiro. When he goes back after sekiro he will be slightly rusty and there will be more challange for him.
I don't know if someone's already said this, but the reason Anri's Straight Sword was only doing 62 dmg is because it scales off your Luck stat. Even at base level a high Luck doesn't boost it as much doesn't scale its damage until you've reinforced it a few times. Anri's sword is my go to weapon for the environment and boss fights in NG+ Also, having high Luck boosts your item drop rates quite a lot. So if you're looking to do future NG+ playthroughs and want to get up close and scrappy that weapon is a great choice.
3 was my first Dark Souls game but after spending years binging souls content I wish I had the opportunity to experience it the "intended" way on my own. (Although I'm playing through DS1 now and can definitely say the controls feel very... different compared to my elden ring and sekiro binge)

THIS!!! I WAS WAITING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG!!! I was one of the peeps that wanted You to play DS1 before DS3 just for this moment when 2nd phase of Soul of Cinder starts!! Your goose bumps gave me goose bumps! Such a journey!
*screams in closed piano lid*
Fun fact: Gwyn is Welsh for white.
Agreed
I mean there's still sekiro and demon's souls to look forward to
@@euanruss6822 That's true and I am very much looking forward to them, but the Dark Souls trilogy in particular holds a very special place in my heart and I will miss seeing him discover the things I discovered and being just as amazed at this world that Miyazaki and the team has created and the interconnected lore surrounding them.
Happy Birthday Shaky!!!! Appreciate you being here
Mati: "He's kind of got Gwyns moveset, pretty dope"
Me: "Oh this is gonna be a great reaction"
Now that the series is slowly drawing to a close....
Is Sekiro gonna be next? :D
I hope so! And Demon's Souls after, to close it up.
@@freddogrosso9835 And Fromsoft's absolute masterpiece, The Adventures of Cookie & Cream, after that.
he’s gonna hate the run backs in demon souls 🤣🤣🤣
@@TheRealProdigy Or spending loads of souls for playing the Fractured World, where everything is backwards, even the character.
Ha, we've all been waiting to see your reaction to Gwyn's theme kicking in. It's one of those priceless moments.
The reaction to Phase 2 Soul Of Cinder Theme was exactly what I hoped it would be, the moment we all waited for since episode 1 of Dark Souls I, it's beautiful
Hearing Plin Plin Plon and knowing that Gwyn took control of the Soul of Cinder is a top 5 gaming moment for me
*plin plin plon*
Enough to make a grown man cry... Also, I don't know if you have missed this but the fire keeper says "grant death to those who linked the fire in lordran"...and that's the soul of cinder.. An amalgamation of all those who liked the fire in DS1 (lordran)
Man the plin plin plon never fails to make me teared up😭😭
soul of cinder easily one of my favorites of the entire series especially with the Gwyn callback 🔥
He's about to get a ringed city spanking😂
hope everything’s okay at home man, we’re all here for you
Soul of Cinder really is a masterpiece.
Howdy friend,
I mentioned this on one of your earlier ds3 videos,
But it’s so cool to watch someone genuinely enjoy one my favorite games all the way to the end.
I’ll have your ds1 and 2 on in the background for the next few weeks 🤙🏽
Whatever it is you're going through, I hope it sorts itself out and you're doing better soon. Us peeps have got your back no matter what!
Also... congrats on taking out the final boss ❤
Thank you Reamer that means a lot bro ❤️
Man, after being here for the other From playthroughs, I have to say this series seemed to fly by and I don't really want it to end. They just dont miss.
Edit: man, Mati's reaction when that piano kicked in was worth the whole series. Beautiful.
BUSSSS🥵 MATI with a banger. Dlc gonna be a blast. What a goat.❤
This.
Yeeeeeeessssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My favorite boss in the main game :)
A video only 2 days after, you’re spoiling us mati!
amazing play through!! wish i could appreciate it as you do. the way you listen to the music and watch the bosses moves and trying to figure out the lore is so cool. i will have to play these again and try to do that to get more out of these games. most of the time i have no idea who someone is or what is going on in the story and how things connect lol. i panicked played all these games and my frustrations distracted me from appreciating everything. you are amazing mati. i did skip forward through many of your deaths though as it did become quite repetitive.
The beginning of the end. I’m so hyped about these upcoming videos. This has been a blast
Awesome video as always Mati! I'm excited for the Ringed City in the next episode, and for the continuation of Hollow Knight, and eventually for Sekiro.
Lots to be excited for around here.😃
You know Mati is a true Soul fan the moment he realize the Plin Plin Plon
That’s right, Mati…your final opponent in the base game…
WAS US! MUAHAHAHAHA!
MATI I’m still on your DS1 play through, but watching you made me buy all the soulsbourne games. You’re awesome!
You've got this baby!! ;)) Welcome to the club. We all suck here.
Enjoy the games, just don't let it eclipse every other franchise like so many people love to do with these games. People praise From software like they cured cancer, just enjoy them for what they are.
@@ethanheadrick7027thanks king, glad to join your community!
@@yeahyeahwowman8099 wise wise words my man
One of the things I really enjoy about watching these videos and the community you've built up is there is a lot I knew, but also lots of things have been pointed out that I didn't know before! So I'm also finding out things for the first time and going back to my own playthrough to try them for myself
I hope you're feeling alright man!
I actually never realized that Comet Azure originated as a Lord of Cinder exclusive spell. That's super badass
It's not an exclusive, actually. It's Soul Stream, which you can pick up after killing the Outrider Knight in the Grand Archives.
Takes like, 60 Int to use, and I don't think Mati even looked at it after he grabbed it, but yeah.
It’s such an epic fight. The music just makes it.
Looking forward to seeing the DLC episodes. Especially midir 😂
That cut from "ok my AC just turned on so this is gonna be the one" to "i can't do this" though 😂😂😂
The plin plin plon hits so hard knowing who it is and what we are about to do
I am very happy that there's even an implication that Sir Babyface kept his promise to Lucatiel. Comrade 'till the end!
thank you for taking my advice and listening to uncle gael's dialogue 😄, i love that you take your time to read all the comments and i think that is what makes this community special
Mati do be da best
Hi mati no spoilers but here is how you trigger endings
1. link the first flame, this will trigger Yurias ending which is the one you´ve been following. (marrying Anri). If you had summoned Yuria at the battle of soul of cinder you could have gone where Yuria stood to collect her gear (Black set and Darkdrift)
2. Summon fire keeper next to the first flame after giving her the eyes
I wasn’t expecting a video today😮 I thought you were uploading tomorrow, this is such a good final boss huge nostalgia from ds1. Almost at the end!
His reaction when he heard the gywn " plin plin plon" was absolutely hilarious 😂
His reaction alone gave me goosebumps
Just completed ds3 myself dlcs are still remaining and RUclips recommend me You're channel i had a blast watching your videos
What a powerfull way to end on.
been around from the first bloodborne video, look at you, how far u come, u go in there with confident and you are better than most of us here, am sure of it. :D
i have seen some of your elden rings vids also, agien so cool to see how far ur come. :D would be cool to see you tackle that game agien. I guess it will be fitting to hit it at the dlc :D
That's when I joined too! I feel like once he finishes all of these, he should go back and do another ER playthrough with everything he knows now.
Yey! New vid. So cool to see you play this game Mati. And also really amazing to see how fast your channel is growing. You deserve it! Rock on!!

The kick! The kick actually did something! Finally 😂
XD I was thinking the same thing
The Ringed City awaits. Along with a menacing dragon and Santa.
Fun fact about soul of cinder, it is the culmination of every single person that has ever linked the fire, including any of yours throughout the series
The first time i fought the soul of cinder my eyes were in terror after the gwyn sound track started playing
Great job on the Soul of Cinder. Hope you get to feeling better.
This is dark souls effect, this is why poeples are playing these games
@@orangecobraEU In my humble opinion letting it fade is the best ending. just like how DS1 I'd say linking the fire is the correct ending. Mostly because it encapsulates the themes of the entire game.
One of the best final boss fight ever.
This is my favorite boss ever. Biggest moveset, best ost, best arena, best lore. He's him
1:13:00 he moonwalked on your body, the disrespect 🤣
Before choosing an ending you could USB or cloud save your data, then watch an ending, erase save data on system and re-transfer it from like a USB stick to then try another ending.
I just made the 100% on DS3, watching you playing and have such a great reaction with this final boss fight made me remember the first playthrough. Wish I could forget everything about the game so I could play it again.
Hell yeah man! I just finished my second playthrough of ds3 last night and was anticipating your next episode.. thanks for the vid mati, I hope you been doing well❤
Bruh thanks for a Friday upload. For what it's worth, I can't imagine people NOT preferring 2 hour long videos. For someone that works full time that might take 2 or 3 days to watch fully.
I admire your insane patience and positivity throughout the souls series. Most people like myself start to rage after a certain point.
Soul of Cinder made me tear up a bit when I fought him
he definitely hasn't been my pfp for the last year or anything
MOOOM! MATI IS STEALING THE FIRE AGAIN!
Last Dark souls game yes, but you still have Sekiro, and Demon Souls
Go for the greatsword. Awesome vid as usual. The emotions just three piano keys can bring is just insane
36:25 i know the majority will pick sekiro, but regardless it would make sense for demon souls next to finish up the souls series, because no matter what anyone says or desperately wants to believe sekiro is in no way at all a souls game other than being made by the same company
and demon souls would probably be finished up within 10 parts anyways
nah there are definitely plenty of similarities between sekiro and all the souls games, even if they changed up the playstyle.
Naw bruh, demon souls has no connections to the ds trilogy. Sekiro is much better anyway.
@@monkey8915 its still a souls game its the exact same game in every way, it would be like nothing changed if he plays that first, thats my point
Anri's sword is my go to weapon for the environment and boss fights in NG+
Also, having high Luck boosts your item drop rates quite a lot. So if you're looking to do future NG+ playthroughs and want to get up close and scrappy that weapon is a great choice.
honestly, i feel fortunate of having played the first DS before this. the surprise of hearing the plin plin plon again was great.
3 was my first Dark Souls game but after spending years binging souls content I wish I had the opportunity to experience it the "intended" way on my own. (Although I'm playing through DS1 now and can definitely say the controls feel very... different compared to my elden ring and sekiro binge)
