Phase 1 your facing against yourself of the class you had in the first Dark Souls game alongside all of the classes in the dark souls game. Phase 2 your facing against the soul of gwyn.
Soul of Cinder is an amalgamation of previous Lords of Cinder such as Lord Gwyn and the Chosen Undead (assuming they survive and manages to link the flame in their world), and every other character who has ever linked the First Flame. This is confirmed by its Japanese name, Incarnation of Kings (Outachi no Keshin), as well as the description from the Soul of the Lords.[1] As such, it wields the combined abilities, weapons, and magic of its components, giving him tremendous power. So phase 1 is more than just the chosen undead

It's more than a reference, Gwyn is essential for the world building of all Dark Souls which extends to DS3. This wasn't a nod to the original DS1, it's more of a story element.
@@kukifitte7357 Unfortunately in the dark souls community everyone thinks everything is a reference to the older games, without realizing that it's actually a very crucial part of the storytelling.
@@belland_dog8235 Yeah... Dark Souls 3 final boss final phase being the boss of the first dark souls is a very fitting end to a trilogy. From the one that started it all, to the one that possibly ends it all.
Probably the most epic thing that happened when the second form occurred, I stood a few feet from him. Right when the "Plin Plin Plon" happened, I froze and immediately remembered gywn, I gasped... The AI for Soul of Cinder froze in place when I stood still. The moment I said "...Gwyn...!?" He proceeded to rush me, and we continued to fight.
This really sets apart the casuals from the actual lads. Gwyn will always be the first last boss we all didn’t want to fight, we didn’t want it to end.
Gwyn split his soul so many times, burned it alive, and still, it's willpower remains. Gwyn was a *GOD* for a reason. EDIT: I wish this boss was Flame God Flann
@@jackofastora8962 yeah but the Gwyn we fight in ds1 couldn't burn the flame longer so a replacement was needed so he had no power or anything in him anymore and if I'm wrong, did he have control over his mind or did he become a hollow.
And there you stand, at the end of ages, facing what you think it's just another fallen warrior... When the song starts and you both run towards the other, you realize this is not a simple knight. You're fighting a Legend... and then, a God. Just like the old times, huh?
Toprak Koç This is the same type of shit that's been narrated in all SoulsBorne games. What's the difference? It's somehow not cringeworthy when there's this monk speaking in a deep voice, but it is when it's a comment? It's both edgy regardless.
3:40 Did it become a DEX? 4:09 Did it just became a pyromancer? 4:20 IT BECAME A PYROMANCER!! 6:55 Oooh that sounds like Gwyn's theme... 8:43 THAT'S GWYN'S MOVE!! THAT'S GWYN'S MOVE!!
its even better if you realize the boss is supposed to represent everyone that linked the fire...meaning the players too, all the styles... mage, pyromancer, str , dex, faith builds, to me, the power within buff he does mid fight made me think "yep thats a player taking over for a second"
I've never played Dark Souls, but watching these rage montages, this is what I've surmised. Every DS boss: •10+ feet tall. •2 or more forms (health pending) •10+ attack patterns to confuse player •Can kill player with 3 or less direct blows •5x the reach advantage •Sustained purely by player's tears of rage Did I get that right?
you got that right even tho most bosses on the series are brutal they are well designed enough to the point where dieing to a boss very rarely feels cheap or unavoidable.
*Many of them assumed this was the end of hard bosses* *Sister Freida and Midir would like to introduce themselves* EDIT: I would like to bring notice to the fact I didn't mention Gael and many other amazing bosses in the DLC's... For that I apologize. They all are pretty amazing... These two were just trouble for me.
This boss is such a perfect final boss for the Soul Series. Phase 1 is the collected form of all who’ve kindled the first flame. Phase 2 is Daddy Gwyn back for one last Rodeo. Such great memories.
Yknow, I never played Dark Souls 1 or 2, but I can appreciate what this fight means to people. I love how its a representation of everyones collective history in the games and the builds/strategies they used, used back on them. Its just a great way do doing fan service for the final game in the series. I started with DS3, and Ive heard people say its not as good as 1 obviously, but I'll probably always remember it like how everyone remembers DS1. Just really great atmosphere and sense of accomplishment when its all over. It took me 6 months to muster up the courage to actually beat the game, and Im glad I did because it genuinely gave me more confidence when it came to playing other games with bosses. Actually, it made other games feel like a walk in the park (before rogue likes became mainstream, I should add)
I would highly recommend playing DS1 at least. DS2 as well if you end up enjoying the series, though go into that one with an open mind. In terms of sheer gamplay, DS3 is by far the superior game. Better combat mechanics, better boss movesets, just feels great to play. But in terms of character, DS1 is lightning in a bottle. The beginning half of DS1 is the greatest gaming experience of all time and I say that with full sincerity. Some cracks start to appear in the second half because the game got rushed out, but not enough for me to call it anything but a masterpiece of a game. Also, all 4 dlc bosses are incredible.
People are still asking to me why i love dark souls. Ds1 and Ds3 are for me two of the best games i ever played. Two Games a lot of feelings a lot of epic and sad moment.
Nightman Was Here in a way yes. But this a guy who's both died to him and studied his moveset over numerous of playthroughs on different characters to where I can beat him on my first try. Orphan's first phase is easy because it's parry and back stabs. It gets more unpredictable in phase 2 because of his erratic jumping attacks
I never found Orphan *that* hard. I mean he still beats me like 10 times per play through, but Ludwig and Laurence I found way harder. I die a lot more to them than I ever do to Orphan. But damn if he's not an awesome boss.
I was listening to the theme (Soul of Cinder), and when it started to sound like Gwyn, Lord of Cinder, i literally stoped what i was doing, and just sat for a minute...the memories taunt me
1st of all, I just wanna praise the phenomenal transitions that you make and incorporate into your video. Nearly seamless, you have some serious editing talent and a keen eye for the perfect moments to switch clips. Secondly, I'm just so happy that these players recognized the second phase's tribute to Gwyn. A few people I know didn't even see it at all, it was heartbreaking
When I fought soul of cinder I was getting goosebumps and chills. When second phase came in it made me cry a little because of how awesome it was. All those dark souls 1 memories unfolding all at once.
Holy shit i just realized why Iudyx has a coiled sword stabbed through him. Soul of Cinder uses coiled swords. He was a reject Lord of Ciner. Which means Soul of Cinder defeated him, and stabbed that very sword through him.
I remember first fighting him, it was another boss in another dark souls game, but when I heard Gwyns theme and saw his fighting style I immediately thought "Ah, Lord Gwyn, old friend, so we meet again."
Seeing this video made me appreciate reaching Soul of Cinder for the first time. Gwyn's theme got an emotional response from me when I first faced him, and hearing it again in DS3 really hit me. Damn those games were beautiful.
The whole theme of it having a wide variety of weapons and spells from those who've linked the flame was already great, but then it draws upon Gywn himself, the first to ever link the flame? Such an awesome fight.
@@MrImastinker Exorph. It says it in the little box on the left side of the screen. If you already realized who it was in some way than just ignore me.
It's been awhile but love to see this. Died to the Lance form a couple of times, died to Lord Gwyn form's street fighter combo as well, very nostalgic fight with lots of Feels.
It's so amazing of the detail that I slowly came to realize that this may actually be a previous protagonist fighting you..the sudden change of playstyle with magic, the Sorcery staff use animation from DS2, the rolling and backstepping, the DS1 backflipping even the parry! All tell-tale signs that this is no ordinary boss. I love this fight so much for that. Also, It's real nice to fight Gwyn Again. (His soul, technically)
So Soul of Cinder is all the classes from DS1 cause you're basically fighting yourself/others who have lit the flame. And so, the Soul of Cinder represents any player who had done that. Absolutely fantastic!

So phase 1 is more than just the chosen undead

Getting the reference just makes the fight 10x better.
Great job From Software.
@@jetstreamlynn3156 unless usurpation of the fire becomes the Canon ending
@@belland_dog8235 It's both. Its a reference to the boss fight with Gwyn in DS1 and a crucial part of the storytelling. So they aren't wrong.

That was either the Soul of Cinder saying "And stay dead!" Or it was pointing down on Juutas
Probably the most epic thing that happened when the second form occurred, I stood a few feet from him. Right when the "Plin Plin Plon" happened, I froze and immediately remembered gywn, I gasped... The AI for Soul of Cinder froze in place when I stood still. The moment I said "...Gwyn...!?"
He proceeded to rush me, and we continued to fight.
This really sets apart the casuals from the actual lads. Gwyn will always be the first last boss we all didn’t want to fight, we didn’t want it to end.

9:02 Excuse me? Were you trying to gwyn me right there? Awesome reaction xD
0:01 This, is my favorite boss in the game
Kinda fitting that the final boss of the base game is basically a freaking hacker/max level player.
Soul of cinder: jumps towards
Player: rolls
Me: tries to parry
“You wanna pyromancer me? I’ll pyromancer you!”
Soul of Cinder: is literally made of fire
I've never played Dark Souls, but watching these rage montages, this is what I've surmised.
Every DS boss:
•10+ feet tall.
•2 or more forms (health pending)
•10+ attack patterns to confuse player
•Can kill player with 3 or less direct blows
•5x the reach advantage
•Sustained purely by player's tears of rage
Did I get that right?
Some bosses don't have 2 fazes. But everything else you're on point
The second phase starts near the third game
And lasers.
The abyss watchers aren't 10+ feet tall, they're more of an 8 or 9 foot. There by happens to be several of them
you got that right
even tho most bosses on the series are brutal they are well designed enough to the point where dieing to a boss very rarely feels cheap or unavoidable.

I love how everyone realized it was a Gwyn fight when he tried to grab you
This boss is such a perfect final boss for the Soul Series. Phase 1 is the collected form of all who’ve kindled the first flame. Phase 2 is Daddy Gwyn back for one last Rodeo. Such great memories.
"Should I be trying to parry you?"
Well yes, but actually... No

Me: IS THAT GWYN’S THEME!?!?!?! 😨
A spear pierced my heart when I fought the second phase and Gwyn's theme began playing.
A sunlight spear? Eh? EEEEEH!?
Man.. when i heart the three first notes of the piano i dropped my controller and starting crying like a little boy...

Orphan is the most difficult boss in the hole Souls series..
iiDeVilz 511 him and Gael are equal in difficulty. However Gael's attacks are more predictable than Orphan's.
...making him easier...?

Secondly, I'm just so happy that these players recognized the second phase's tribute to Gwyn. A few people I know didn't even see it at all, it was heartbreaking
