That's where my dad's family are from..Downcraig Road. Granny Auntie stayed there until they passed away Cousins are still there or down tge street in Simshill
Found this song which I'd forgotten about, after looking for "Ye cannae shove yer grannie aff a bus". Will be singing both at Hogmanay in Paris with my a quarter scottish grandsons aged 11 and 8 (the other quarters are english, french and sardinian!) in memory of my beloved Robert (the scottish element) whom we lost this year in June and who loved Hogmanay. Wendy Young.
Great stuff and good to hear this version, Matt was a fine writer and singer, but he didn't write this one as it was by Adam MacNaughtan. The first recording of it was on a single by Scotia records by The Ian Davison Folk group.
This song is a literal critique of living conditions deriving from theoretical aspects of historical materialism "The clydeside reds gaut me wae breid and jeily bomb" - a reference to Glasgow's communist party. The weans marching to George's square demanding nae mare pieces oer piece flinging height - you've provided us with housing that does not fit with our culture and so does not meet our needs, in fact, as the rest of the song suggests, it's causing alsorts of issues that need fixing.
I feature this recording in my book "Scottish Music Yearbook". The book takes the reader on a year long journey through the music of Scottish composers.
@@manoutoftime9057 Hi yes, you can find it from my website www.bagpiper-buckinghamshire.com/books Look for 'Scottish Music Yearbook' it has a light blue cover and I've put links to it for the American and UK markets, but it is also available in other market places like Japan and Germany

Great stuff!
Great stuff! Saw Matt live at Stirling Uni in the 70s. Even though (or maybe because) he was half-cut, he was excellent.
Great stuff and good to hear this version, Matt was a fine writer and singer, but he didn't write this one as it was by Adam MacNaughtan.
The first recording of it was on a single by Scotia records by The Ian Davison Folk group.
This shows you can make a song out of anything, such as a mother throwing sandwiches out a 20 level building
