I agree Dabura was wasted potential in Dragonball Z. He could have introduced the Demon Realm to the Dragon Team. He could have become a recurring antagonist and could have played a larger role in the Majin Buu Arc. But unfortunately all that’s done with him is that he is shown to show how Gohan has become rusty in the last 7 years and just dies agianst Majin Buu.
And I think they could have solved all of it by, instead of just having him as *THE* Demon King, having him be *a* Demon King or other super high ranking demon. That would have given them more room to grow up the Demon Realm, and possibly have Demigura as the 'ultimate' Demon King show up in the main branch or some similar character... while still having Towa's arc work, and still have Dabura become a recurring villain in later arcs, as well.
I loved the Fat Buu though. He is a very entertaining character and is the best form of Buu. because he flied in the face of dragonballs usual conventions for a villain after Freeza and Cell and is a perfect example of Toriyama subverting expectations.
I agree. Is there anyone that didn’t immediately love the character and the magic level power he brought to the series. Majin Buu was peak “magic” scaling vs power scaling. But Dabura was like an inbetween that honestly had soo much potential

Honestly I feel like dabura deserves a bit more love, since he did turn piccolo and krillin in to Stone and it would’ve been cool if he did broke free of babidi’s mind control and assist the Z-fighters on getting revenge.🐱
Dabura is definitely one of those characters that I wish got more screen time. The way he used meditation to hone his power and had an aura of intimidation about him was cool. On top of his strength, he had extremely high intelligence. Having him somewhat betray his master and face off with Buu for how childish/unruly and powerful he was- all because he knew that Babidi wouldn't be able to control him indefinitely and he was too much of a threat to let live- was right on the money and showed his powers of insight were on a different level. I know we'll never know Toriyamas' true vision for the characters' redemption, but even if he returned as a villain that honed his powers after being defeated by Buu and became a major villain again would be awesome.

So, here's something I had thought of a while back during a "how would I improve the Buu arc?" brainstorm. The idea was kinda based on an old what if from this channel, in case anyone wonders why it sounds familiar. Basically, remember when Buu eats Dabura? He corrupts Buu from the inside and takes control over his body. Not right away. At the end of the arc. After he's had some time, maybe after Vegeta cuts out fat Buu, or maybe when Bee gets shot. This would give him a more direct personality, and a potential goal. Practise with his new powers so that he can conquer this realm. I think that would have been a much more interesting use of the character, don't you?
Dabura also appears in the Super manga. While the anime showed only a brief flashback to Future Trunks' fight against Babidi and Dabura, the manga dedicates a whole chapter to it and then some.
Dabura is victim of many things, but most of them is prolly change of devil realm in DB during years. Well the title of this video does ask a really good question if you as me I'd say that it depends on the point of view of the person that you are asking
Finally I can say this; I love Dabura. I think it’s the design, maybe it’s the fact that he’s the first demon in DBZ to be interesting, and in that merit (being a demon) he’s so different from his contemporaries. I always wanted to see more from him, like a revenge plot or something.
And how was he NOT in FighterZ? 6 versions of Goku and the devil man gets no respect? Dabura with Babidi as an assist was one of my few requests before all the DLC dropped
I honestly don't think Dabura turning good would ever make sense, but he was wasted potential in the fact that it was another bit of Dragon Ball lore that went completely unexplored. Sure the realm of the Kais was explored again with the Goku Black arc, but what happened to all the Supreme Kais and the Quadrant Kais too? Surely all the universes have a version of that, so why was it only Gowazu and Zamasu? And of course I'm not even talking about the topic of the video yet which is the Demon Realm...
Because Toriyama loves setting up interesting concepts, but he's very rarely interested in worldbuilding. I have this same gripe with the concept of the DB multiverse.
Have to appreciate how Toriyama avoided retconning Freeza being the strongest mortal in the universe with Dabura coming from the Demon Realm. Freeza: "I was serenaded by teddy bears!" Wait. wasn't HFIL too much like the Demon Realm to be a punishment for Dabura?
I agree. Is there anyone that didn’t immediately love the character and the magic level power he brought to the series. Majin Buu was peak “magic” scaling vs power scaling. But Dabura was like an inbetween that honestly had soo much potential
I actually think that Dabura was under rated. I understand that he was just there to hype how strong Majin buu was similar to how king cold was introduced to be easily defeated to show how much more of a threat the actual main villains of the arc / saga would be ( AKA the androids) But he still had a lot of potential to be a main villain. His power rivaled perfect cell and he had magic to summon weapons by simply speaking, he could turn people into stone with his spit and he is literally a real demon king who probably had legions of demons 😈 that he could have potentially lead to try and concur not only earth but the universe. I would actually like to see him return either as a stronger villain or perhaps even as a good guy considering that he turned good in the after life.
Honestly, I'm surprised that you HAVEN'T done a "Dabura Turned Good" story yet. With knowledge of demons slowly coming out from the games, and the entirety of Super and GT to play in, the time may be right to at least start the early scripting process.
My theory is that the mekaioshin and kaioshin scaling is often flipped unless in the mortal realm. While a mekaio like Dabura is intensely strong for most mortals, they are immensely weak in comparison to lower scaled beings in their hierarchy and rely solely on tactics for instantly removing problems (spit qualifies as a way to get rid of the lower class beings)
Masakox talking about how a villains lackey shouldn't be a main character or how they don't need development, it just made me think about a " What if Cui became good" story.
I could see him playing the role of an kinda guide for the Demon Realm not a good guy buy not a bad guy kind of acting as The Devil You Know vs The Devil You Don’t
I remember Dabura quite well, as in, I remember the breath attack he kept using during his boss fight in the Fuu arc of Xenoverse 2. Not to mention the expert mission. Hated that so much.
Honestly I would love more Good Boi Dabura. Hell, if you made a series on his redemption/revival after the Buu saga, into DBS, maybe GT; I'd love it. Plus it'd be ironic since he'd be the second Demon King to turn good - Piccolo being first (although Piccolo Jr. is more like... Demon Prince, his father was a King)
Id really love to explore the demon world. demon king piccolo, and dabura have been building toward it. Something like the janemba movie, but an arc and good. They have to go through hell for some reason and fight the new demon king.
Towa and Mira also appear in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot which you get to fight Mira after fighting enemies shrouded in red dark aura which you then repeat that many times
When I saw this as a kid, I was so hyped, here was the king of the demon realm with hax abilities even a swordsman was hoping would be epic final boss Buu was cool even more haax but I think Dabura and his sis leading a demonic invasion into the mortal realm could have been a better final arc
Hm. I wonder if we might see a What-If of Dabura being resurrected along with all the other victims of Buu's rampage... That might change things in an interesting way.
So... I was rewatching this and.... "What if Dabura was a Z-Fighter" sounds oddly interesting now.... Or, at least, "What if Dabura was in the Tournament of Power?" I dunno, I'm a sucker for the redemption arcs. (Seriously, your Raditz, Zamasu, and Freiza what-ifs are some of my favorites.)
A demon realm arc or pair of arcs would have been amazing. First arc is a low level demon antagonist, and Dabura shows up as this affably evil bigger bad that doesn't get involved but severely outclasses everyone. Then for a later arc he gets off the throne and comes at the heroes himself. I'd have the motivation for Dabura going after them be non malicious too. Just business. Maybe he wants the dragon balls for something, doesn't actually want to fight for them, but the heroes obviously don't want him to get his wish. His character design just looks like the kind of guy who'd be a villain but polite about it.
If a Xenoverse 3 ever happened, while there probably wouldn't make sense. I'd love the Demon Race to be available to play. Granted their just pretty much humans with elf ears. But it be fun to have. Especially if you make like Dabura a mentor and reference his "Redemption" in the afterlife of Z. I love him a lot which is also why I like Towa and Mira. Pretty much I like this whole family. Dabura, Towa, Mira, Fu. Fu is probably my favorite of the bunch because Xenoverse 2 kind of just makes him relatable cause hes just a Dragon Ball fan whose like "What if this happened?" I like him better here than what they did with Fu in Heroes but thats a story for another day.
He was definetly wasted potential, XV2 gave something back to him. - I mean, Dabura is still Demon King, Heroes had Demon Gods that Dabura became one of. But yeah, in Heroes true ruler of Makai is the Dark King...
honestly, I've always found all three of babidi's minions, yakon, dabura and even pui pui interesting and have really cool designs and they have unique powers. Had yakon and pui pui been real threats instead of punchlines I think it could have been really cool to see a genuine trio of minions bouncing off each other and using their powers to battle rather then standard fighting. The idea of Yakon eating light or power to stop the saiyans from going super saiyan and giving us a reminder of how skilled goku is as a martial artist. pui pui's speed being to fast for the characters to keep up with, and then dabura could have had more cool powers or been the strength opponent. but no, instead we get buu, who I've never been that found of in any of his forms (evil buu probably comes the closest but he's gone as fast as he arives)
I think Debura being sent to heaven is honestly one of the best out comes for a character in DB only because it's either a very suiting punishment, or how he was all along.
I was always curious about the relation between Dabura and Demon King Piccolo? A usurper, filling a power vacuum? Or simply another Demon King, along the lines of the Kai's?
I always assumed that King Piccolo was just a “demon” in name only, while Dabura is an actual demon, and a king of them no less. King Piccolo was just the evil within Kami excreted from his body.
@@Vegeta241 It is weird that OG Dragonball never really confirmed that distinction one way or another. Another aspect that _could_ have been explored further if Toriyama went into a bit more detail on the Demon realm.
yeah i could def see dabura taking on the vegeta/piccolo path to redemption minus a family unless towa gets introduced into the main series. would be pretty funny if when he fully redeemed himself he became a honorary supreme kai and would make for some pretty awkward interactions between him shin and kabito.

He's literally the key to explore the Demon Realm and the Makaiōshin. I wish we could see something official about it.
What if Dabura was in the Tournament of Power? Now, I'm curious to see this.^^
Towa and Mira also appear in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot which you get to fight Mira after fighting enemies shrouded in red dark aura which you then repeat that many times
Dabura is interesting given the title he carries. I was always curious if his spit could turn Buu to stone? He definitely deserves his own What If?
When I saw this as a kid, I was so hyped, here was the king of the demon realm with hax abilities even a swordsman was hoping would be epic final boss
Buu was cool even more haax but I think Dabura and his sis leading a demonic invasion into the mortal realm could have been a better final arc
Do a what if for Dabura in ToP
Hm. I wonder if we might see a What-If of Dabura being resurrected along with all the other victims of Buu's rampage...
That might change things in an interesting way.
So... I was rewatching this and.... "What if Dabura was a Z-Fighter" sounds oddly interesting now....
Or, at least, "What if Dabura was in the Tournament of Power?"
I dunno, I'm a sucker for the redemption arcs. (Seriously, your Raditz, Zamasu, and Freiza what-ifs are some of my favorites.)
will you masakox make about Saiyan shallot in dragon Ball super today now yes are no
Finally giving him some atention
A demon realm arc or pair of arcs would have been amazing. First arc is a low level demon antagonist, and Dabura shows up as this affably evil bigger bad that doesn't get involved but severely outclasses everyone. Then for a later arc he gets off the throne and comes at the heroes himself. I'd have the motivation for Dabura going after them be non malicious too. Just business. Maybe he wants the dragon balls for something, doesn't actually want to fight for them, but the heroes obviously don't want him to get his wish. His character design just looks like the kind of guy who'd be a villain but polite about it.
Please do a ehat if centered around him??!!!
I actually have a what if idea with Dabura,
What if Dabura was faking being mind controlled the entire time?
I think if dabura replaced Bapidi as the deal maker, granting power in exchange for service, a deal with the devil per say, it’d be very cool
I think it would have been cool if an alternate universe version of Dabura was introduced as a god of destruction of Universe 7
I always saw Dabura as a boring asshole. But after Xenoverse 2, I say him as a goober
With Deadbura I like to think that he’s basically a prisoner in his own body. Forced to watch himself be good and unable to do anything about it.
Let’s make Dabura now what Raditz was back in 2017!
Dabura:
Ha, Ha, Ha I will leave one chance to shut up, take it unless you'd rather end up like your friend
He was definetly wasted potential, XV2 gave something back to him.
- I mean, Dabura is still Demon King, Heroes had Demon Gods that Dabura became one of. But yeah, in Heroes true ruler of Makai is the Dark King...
What makes dabura compelling is that his design and everything surrounding him screams main villian.
I think if we do get a reimagined version of Dragonball I hope Dabura is sealed within the rice cooker
Imma keep it a buck, we need more of the Demon Realm in Dragon Ball cannon
I always felt like if Raditz had his own Z fighterz that Debura would a part of’em.
Anyone else hoping Masako will do a proper what if about Dabura now? 🤞🤞 Here's hoping.
honestly, I've always found all three of babidi's minions, yakon, dabura and even pui pui interesting and have really cool designs and they have unique powers.
This guy and Master Mutaito along with Grandpa Gohan deserve to have reincarnation characters like Uub! A whole new generation of earthling fighters.
Dabura's dub voice is awesome
could we get a What if Dabura turned good?....or atleast nicer?
We have dabura in sandland now 🎉
idk i always thought he was kinda cool and neat. seeing another character that uses a sword was cool too.
"Dabura"?
You mean Raditz Mk II.
Cool character idea thrown away after being Worf'd.
if Dabura were in the tournament of power, I wonder how Jiren would react at seeing a demon
Dabura was wasted but not really, he replaced mecha freeze as a joke about power scaling. People forget Toriyama was mainly a comedy writer before Z.
yeah i could def see dabura taking on the vegeta/piccolo path to redemption minus a family unless towa gets introduced into the main series.
would be pretty funny if when he fully redeemed himself he became a honorary supreme kai and would make for some pretty awkward interactions between him shin and kabito.
