- I would 100% consider the D80 in 2023 for a fun , getting-to-know-photography camera or a great everyday shooter for people who have a low budget but want a power house for sure.
10.2 megapixel Nikon DX format CCD imaging sensor: Effectively optimized by Nikon to deliver a wide, dynamic range, producing outstanding images with high resolution and vivid detail yielding 3,872 x 2,592-pixel files.

The Nikon D80 feels great to shoot. I loved doing this review.
The photos are not my own FYI, they were on the SD card which was in the camera and came with the camera.
The D80 was the last CCD sensor unit with the lens motor drive before the cmos sensors. The CCD sensors I feel simulate warm film colors better than cmos sensors do and resemble images closer to 35mm film.
Urgh mine broke. Freaking Err shutter fail which is a total loss ! I’m so sad
@@robbellphoto that sucks :( 9 years ago I did a shutter replacement on a D100 I was able to get a brand new shutter on eBay for around $50. Was a total pain to do and took about 2.5 hours total time and many photos for reference to put it back together but it worked great after that.
@@robbellphoto I had the same issue and i discover a guy in germany who fixes them. The plastic piece is replaced by a metal one for 60$ ! I had my D80 fix by him and its working now better then before !
@@nikos9742 can you share the details with the followers please 🙏🏻
I nave tucked in a drawer a D80 that came up with the dreaded ERR message, I took it to a meeting to get the members opinion on it. One guy while holding it said that the camera was hot. The Nikon battery was melting down! It's still in the drawer.. I now use a D7100. No problems.
I used the 7100 for a professional shoot with a basketball player. With the 85 prime the images were stunning. I did sell the body when I nabbed a FX 800 but the 7100 is amamzing
I'll take the D80 over the D5xxx any day. The D5xxx series cameras do not have a built-in motor so not every Nikkor lens will auto focus.
Great insights Rob,I've recently got back into photography and purchased a couple of camera bodies (Nikon D40+D80) for peanuts from the the MPB online store, and have sourced an 18-55mm DX among other lenses. These cameras, especialy those with CCD sensors are just wonderful gems.Another subscriber here to inch you towards 1K ATB Paul.
Thanks so much ! And congratulations on joining the gang ! My D80 is a top pic for me also …. The D40 is also a little beast
I think i saw this one. I looks for deals almost daily on that site and have several from goodwill! Have not pulled the trigger on a D80 yet due to their focusing gear high failure rate and I have the D200 which I got froom goodwill as well for $50 with 1200 clicks, other than that they are a great buy
Love that ! The D200 is a beast
Thanks for the video. The Nikon D80 was my first DSLR back in 2007. Was a really good camera. I initially bought a canon 40D but returned it a week later for the D80. The Nikon just felt better in the hand back then and I preferred the jpegs straight out of camera.
You know, I have a 40D but zero lens for it lol 🤷🏻♂️, I kind of love the way it feels but not willing to start again with the Lenses
@@robbellphoto yeah I appreciate The feel of canons now. 40D is a great camera too. Have a Fuji Xpro 3 now but in the process of selling my fuji gear to go to canon or Nikon full frame DSLR’s. I’m kind of done for now with trying to have the latest models. I would prefer better value but pretty much equal image quality to todays newer cameras.
@@tofino12 I shoot a Nikon D800 and a D700 , both FX and both fantastic prices
Totally agree with all what you said about the camera except the price (in good condition, all above $130 today, Feb 2024)
I know …. I’m so sorry for all of the price confusion! I do still to this day find deals . Just grabbed a canon AE1 black for 24$ video to follow
I just bought 2 Pentax K10D's (one with 3800 & the other with 8900 clicks) for a bargain. Love those CCD sensors. ❤😊
I’ve recently started enjoying the newer CMOS sensors, mostly the modern features and faster focus of the newer bodies …. Then use CCD filters / presets on Lightroom in post …. Cheating I know ;-)
Hello and thanks for this review. I have the little sister, D70s and I'm really happy with it.
Extra score for your Imperial t-shirt 😅😊
:-) lol that’s a good eye to spot the T shirt thanks ! Yep the d70s …. What’s a beautiful camera 🎥 ❤️
"Instapot or Tickface .." 😂😂
You know it
If you had to choose one old Nikon as a second camera just to have some fun and get a different vibe, which one would you recommend (D100, D50, D70, D200, D40, D60, D80, D700...)? I'm a complete amateur.
In all of your review you say: "this is one of my favorite!!" 😂
Thanks for your content, keep going!
I know . I freaking suck. They’re all my Favs. Ok, the D300s. It’s APSC but can shoot some video for fun and is the baby brother to the 700. Which means it’s Available cheap and is freaking bullet proof
@@robbellphoto Great, thanks!
Got a d80 in the box with a nikkor micro 60mm 2.8 lens for £50 just got learn how to use it now😊
The I just put a card reader in me phone and pick the pictures I like
Out of nostalgia (I had been a Nikon photog up until 15 years ago) I just bought a Nikon D200 for 60 euro. 18k clicks, in pristine condition. Oh, how I have missed that ccd sensor. Which was produced by Sony, by the way :)
Ah Sony. They always give us what we need ;-)
Wow that’s a deal … I sold mine :-( , used the d700 far more and it was gathering dust. Sad
I like this guy. He's kinda cool, kinda funky, Inspirational on average, I subscribed ....
however ...
as the camera machine lover (he is), I wonder why at 2:35 in, on his shelves, I see so many beautiful pieces of equipment on the shelves with NO body caps.
I guess maybe he lives in a dust-less world. Or maybe they are just junk props. Or maybe the Patagonia cap imagines a perfect Chilean world where imperfection doesn't exist.
IDK.
Kinda confusing.
Got use mine again
Do it ! Get that sucker out
Really nice camera. I feel lucky that I found one at 18k shots and almost no scratches with brand new battery and charger for 75 euro. Too bad I can't put the AF-P lenses on it, but what the hell I got plenty of G and D versions for it.
Would the d3000 produce similar results?
The D3000 is so wonderful for sure ! It’s smaller is size and a couple of years newer ! The 80 was marketed as a higher end camera than the D3000 and is larger also. Dealers choice on this one ;-)
(I prefer the D80)
I've been selling a collection of cameras... and have found some embarrassing pics on some of them. Politely deleted them before moving the camera along.
I’ve honestly found some absolutely striking images! Awesome photography for sure.
I still shoot with a with my Nik D40X. Only thing I don't like about it is no articulated screen like some of my other cameras You know this was 'Click Bait' as you presented another camera's pic
LOVE the D40x ! Mine still get use for sure!
The pic is an AI interpretation of the best Nikon Camera in the world lol. I use a few AI image processors and type in what or how I feel about a camera and an image is created. I think the D80 is Nikon Camera Gold lol
Remove the D80 script and blow up this pic of the Nik and offer it for sale. @@robbellphoto
what is better, d80 or d200
The D200 is superior for sure ! But double the price !
D200 is heavier too.
I bought one with a telelens nikon voor 40 euro with 2200 counts.😅😅
I love it. I dont want anything new :\
Lucky find. That's not what these cameras go for on that site. I was lucky to find one locally with 1k shots that was almost new and complete with lens case etc for 100 usd
Totally agree, great find for sure !
Too many cameras are being made. And people a few decades ago would die for any of them. I suppose somehow it will be controlled by the marketplace somehow.
I mean the tech these days is insanely good, it’s as if the camera really helps achieve awesome results every time. With my D60, I have 3 focus points lol … the D500 has 150 🤷🏻♂️
bull crap the d5100 can't drive D lenses so it's not a better option
I do love the D lens option for sure ;-)
Calm down. You sound like a used car salesman
