Amazing review, I totally agree with everything you said in this video review. I just purchased a QX30 AWD premium a week ago and could not be happier. Spot on review, you are now my car guru! Cheers!
As always you provide review quality above any other site that I have seen to date. Your passion and knowledge for vehicles is head and shoulders above any other RUclips channel I have viewed to date. I appreciate your excellent and passion!
Finally a decent review of the vehicle I have been waiting on, I have driven the GLA and found it to be lacking in the quality department and the Mercedes infotainment system is not user friendly. It's noisy inside too. Alex, is the Interior noise level better than the GLA? Thank you for some of the most comprehensive reviews out there, Can't want to see your review of the Q60 Coupe
How about a totally unbiased review from an Infinity QX30 owner ? ,,,, okay then ,,, our Chestnut Bronze AWD QX30 Premium was delivered to us five weeks ago. As far as I'm concerned it's a simple case of " you get what you pay for ". Not quite sure what it is ,, sport hatchback ? SUV ? Crossover ? all I know is I couldn't be more pleased with our purchase. What a beautifully finished vehicle, the interior is excellent and nothing quite like listening to Pavarotti on the 10 speaker Bose sound system. What impressed me was the power train, seven speed twin clutch transmission married to a more than adequate two litre turbo engine. This vehicle has plenty of pep ( at least for me anyway ) 208 horsepower and it will cruise all day at 120 kph. and be quite economical on fuel. I use the manual mode mostly, slipping through the gears with the paddle shifters. On the subject of fuel, yes although premium fuel is recommended they do say recommended not required. The Infinity technician suggested that I use premium fuel on every second fill up. When we placed the order for our QX30 we opted for the Premium package and that was more than enough when it comes to technology. Infinity has put together an absolutely great little vehicle ( I guess it's a Crossover ) we traded our 2015 Nissan Rogue SL and although the Rogue SL was a very nice vehicle this QX30 a big kick up, just love our QX30. I should add, this vehicle would not be suitable for folks 6' plus, it's just too small for tall folks. I'm not a big fan of push button start / stop, that's okay for Ferrari's and Lamborghini's but other than that no issues whatsoever.
Thankyou!!! Considering buying a 2017 Liquid Copper/ teak every package 11k asking 23.500 little separation in front seat at the seam worried about that as i have heard owners had a problem with interior? What do u think? Thanx 8n advance!
Thinking about trading in my Mazda CX-5 for this. I don't need as much room, even though I love my CX-5. I live in Seattle too!! Great job Alex!! Glad you came up here for this review!! Hope you liked driving in our city. Looks like you spent a lot of time in Magnolia driving around.
I had an opportunity to rent one of these, it was horrible!! The area for your foot between the brake pedal and gas pedal is so small i found myself hitting both at the same time, also every time i changed lanes i mistakenly turned on the cruise control because the stalk for the cruise control is directly below the turn signal stalk which caused the car to suddenly accelerate.
i want something fun to drive but also very reliable. i dont always need the backseats but i do want them to be functional for adults on the occasions that I do use them. would you recommend this car for me?
What about an optioned up 2017 Buick Encore AWD vs base QX30 AWD? Buick makes a decent car, but Infiniti is a step up. But is it $7k better? Looking for a CUV for my wife. I would spend the extra money if it was worth it. I feel a Buick will have much lower maintenance costs.
Alex, when compared by price only, the 2016 Nissan Murano S can be bought for $33,000 with AWD, Navigation and light interior and a (6) cylinder engine. By far the most for the least!
Alex, which do you think has better performance between volvo v40 t5 and this infinity q30 2.0t ? I am sure that volvo got far better grade in safety catagory, though.
I am seeing sport versions (a higher trim level, that seem to drive out currently for about $38,500) selling with under 1,000 miles for just under $30K, and lower trims for about $26K. That is a steeper initial drop than I'd hoped for. Infiniti is usually good at resale. My guess is that hatches just can't grab the market like they hoped. I am however considering one if the discounts are there , since Volvo simply will not produce many V60's with sporty suspensions and I cannot find one that isn't a $52,000 MSRP. They drop like rocks.
Hard to say, but I suspect engine and transmission reliability will be lower than Infiniti's average and more similar to what we see from Mercedes in the long run.
Since in the North American market we don't have a Merc A-Class hatchback, we have the GLA instead, what we can do is view the GLA as an oversized A class hatchback. Since the QX30 shares a lot with the GLA , therefore the QX30 is an oversized hatchback with limited offroad capability like the GLA. While the NX200t is a solid small size SUV which is similiar to the Ford Escape in my opinion. They are literally no on the same level.
I tend to enjoy things that are "a little different" and had many good years with two Infiniti G20s. This model might be a better deal on the used market relative to other options. I think it would have to be QX30 Sport for me for the looks and height, even though AWD would be nice. Alex's comment about very firm ride does give me pause. Not too easy to find these for test drives.
Hello Alex, How would you compare this to the VW GTI. Pricing wise they are every similar. Performance and cargo wise GTi is better. Image wise and feature wise Infiniti is better. Overall which do you prefer and which do you think would be a better buy?
Hello Alex , Loving the car's design a lot. Quick question, you mentioned that you would do a separate review of this Q30's infotainment system later on, just wondered if you can shed some light on when we can expect that video? I enjoy your thorough infotainment reviews very much and I look forward to this one as I am currently considering this car for my next purchase. Thank you for the great work your doing on this channel, its very much appreciated!
+NOFATCHICK1 it is a lot of money for a swoopy, softer GTI. Loaded up it is in the mid 40s. I don't think being small makes it sportier or nicer to drive than from what I'm seeing. The outside looks nice though. It would have sold better if it were closer in size to an X1.
It's nice to hear Infiniti sorted out the 7G-DCT gearbox in this over the Mercedes cars. In the CLA250 I drove that was undeniably the worst part of the driving experience. Is it better than the A3 S-tronic unit, particularly in stop-and-go traffic in your opinion Alex? The fact the Sport can't be optioned with AWD will split opinions. However if the AWD system does take a toll of handling due to extra weight, then so be it. However, Mercedes does have an AWD on the very low slung GLA45 AMG...
I was wondering when the reviews for this and the Q60 were going to start coming out. Stylewise I think I like this more than the GLA. Are the interior materials the same or is one better than the other?
Is that GLK measurement as far as length for the actual GLK or for the new GLC and just a typo? Speaking of which, is a review of the new GLC in the works/books?
Bean counters are keeping the engineers at bay. After all you're looking at probably 8$ for the pad and 45 cents for the body clips. Can't let that happen!
pls take a quick minute to help me. Motormouth I , question for you. Im in the market for a small SUV and sedan categories, can you help me narrow the list of cars I need to test drive? There are few key points that's important to me, in the order of most to least important; 1) Fuel Economy, 2) On board Tech, 3) Bang for the buck. Which cars have you tested in the categories mention above are you picks that fits those 3 criteria. THank you. budget 20-28K
It's funny how people always talk about domestic car makers and their badge engineering (GM is a big one for that) and yet we have a German and a Japanese car manufacturer sharing a vehicle together, which will probably get cross-shopped and be apart of comparison tests, even though they're essentially the same. It's honestly more platform sharing than badge engineering. Without it Mercedes would not have been able to sell the GLA as inexpensively and Infiniti would not have had the QX30 at all. It's preferable to share a Mercedes platform than a Nissan Rogue or Juke platform as well. While the steering wheel, seat switches, engine and transmission are shared, the vast majority of what you see or touch is unique so I'm OK with it. The seat frames, seats, dashboard, doors, infotainment system, sheetmetal, glass, lamps, etc are all unique to the QX30. The transmission has been lightly tweaked and the suspension has been heavily modified.
+Alex on Autos I appreciate your response Alex and understand your point, but my question is why? Is it to broaden market appeal? Another example is the Miata(whoops MX-5 lol), and the 124 Spyder. Both cool in their own right but why do they co exist?
+PremierAutoMan86 they both wanted to create a small crossover but they didn't think they could do it on their own. This goes for both Infiniti and Mercedes
It's down to personal preferences. The GLA250 isn't exactly a great product: Mercedes clearly cut down cost by downgrading materials used when compared their traditional sumptuous interiors. To lower their cost, it is probably a good idea to share the platforms with other manufacturers. Luckily Infiniti wants a smaller entry-level car in their lineup similar to how Lexus took a Toyota Prius and remade it to the CT200h. Thankfully Infiniti is a 'lower-class' luxury brand where buyers probably won't be as demanding as those walking into a MB dealership. What I don't agree with is the shared hard-points. I believe interior build aside, the suspension & powertrain is the defining factor in how a car drives & feels. I was disappointed that Infiniti didn't use their own engines (like the Nissan Juke 1.6 turbo) or their own transmission but instead use a direct transplant from the CLA250/GLA250. I've driven the CLA250 and while the engine is fine, the 7G-DCT gearbox is sluggish, clunky & dimwitted in traffic. Assuming Infiniti redone the shift algorithm it would be great, but I did wish for more differentiation from the Mercedes products.
You seem to have forgotten the Volvo v40 and v40 cross country which easily match the vehicle on size and space and out match it on interior quality it surprises me you do not meant the v40 as it replace c30 a long time ago. It shares floor pan body structure passenger cell door structure transmission and suspension and some engines with the Mercedes GLA / A class cars. Seat and door card and witches are all shared the the Mercedes there is not difference between the two models so once again no your not seeing infinity. The car over all is very nice, using mainly Mercedes parts has meant a step up in quality for infinity. It'd be shame they will never hold there price . If your a private buyer do not buy new pre reg or nearly new will help with the poor residual value or buy the Mercedes. If it's not your car you lease or it's a company car then yes go for it and enjoy
Hey Alex, don't you think Infiniti pretty much copied the Mazda 3/Mazda Kodo design language? I am so amazed on how how this QX30 is so similar to the Mazda 3 Hatchback
They are similar, but who copied who I'm not sure, this is a derivative of the Infinti styling that launched on the M sedan before Mazda created "Kodo"
Even?????? Infiniti certainly isnt alone in that omission. Build any of the top line luxury models from MB, BMW and Audi and you'll see vented seats still arent standard. Kia/Hyundai, in general, are just way ahead of the curve with offering this feature in less expensive cars.
Andre N So? Those non luxury cars offer more tiny cool details which does make them ahead so that they don't really be too behind luxury models. They don't come standard either.
I test drove this car few days ago. Good driving Dynamics but not spacious in the second row or luggage space. BMW X1 or Mazda CX-5 is a better alternative
He has a point, I just spent four years in a CLA AMG, the interior disintegrated, got a bmw 4 series now and I'm happy. Maybe bad luck but you know, shouldn't have "bad luck" on a new supposedly premium car
why in the world would I buy a Infiniti with an absolutely unreliable Mercedes engine? One of the most appealing aspects of buying Japanese is the reliability so essentially you are removing that. No Thanks!
Alex, the new X1, even with the 2.0 turbo engine, gets to 60mph in 6.3 seconds according to BMW, and 6.4 according to Car and Driver. That would be better than this vehicle. Even more important, the very low hp rating of this engine means it will not perform at highway speeds like the BMW.
$44,000 would buy you a much better, bigger midsized luxury crossover with slightly less equipment. With real-world discounts avaiable on them that you will not see on Infinitis, they will be about the same price. This design is a fail based on the poor ride and mediocre acceleration for the class. Also, muliple reviews report it as cramped and lacking interior storage. Get a GTI and save $15,000.
Amazing review, I totally agree with everything you said in this video review. I just purchased a QX30 AWD premium a week ago and could not be happier. Spot on review, you are now my car guru!

2 years later are you still satisfied with the vehicle ?
As always you provide review quality above any other site that I have seen to date. Your passion and knowledge for vehicles is head and shoulders above any other RUclips channel I have viewed to date. I appreciate your excellent and passion!
Savagegeese is also excellent.
Let me just say how I like that y'all put up different models to show and better explain each ones qualities!
definitely the best car review in youtube, keep it up
I only watch your reviews Alex, great job.
Finally a decent review of the vehicle I have been waiting on, I have driven the GLA and found it to be lacking in the quality department and the Mercedes infotainment system is not user friendly. Good review on this new model. Long overdue.

Really well done Alex.
Does both back seats lay flat? I need to know if I can buy small furniture pieces without borrowing my husband’s truck..... crucial
Alex, you mentioned the 360 degree camera. But I didn't see any sample image of the camera. Great review though. Thank you.
bird271828 It's an option. You get the 360 camera with the safety package.
Cabin noise will be an "F" in any vehicles driving in Seattle b/c of the granite aggregate in the roads! Great in-depth review!
Irena Facelli The QX30 is not bad for cargo room. I went from a 2013 CRV to a QX30 and yeah it's a step down but not that bad.
I had an opportunity to rent one of these, it was horrible!! Stephan M same dilemma!
Stephan M I got $8,000 off my new QX30.
Following this discussion!
How did you get an $8000 discount?
Another excellent review... Good points of contrast between the luxury small Suv.
Alex, when compared by price only, the 2016 Nissan Murano S can be bought for $33,000 with AWD, Navigation and light interior and a (6) cylinder engine. By far the most for the least!

Awesome and "good to know info" filled review - keep up with the good work ;)
Its a nice review as always Alex. Btw how do you rate the reliability of this since its sharing engine and body??
Hard to say, but I suspect engine and transmission reliability will be lower than Infiniti's average and more similar to what we see from Mercedes in the long run.
or maybe Infiniti know whats up with the reliability and changed few parts of their own
This is probably the best ever European car.
Alex - you don't think this competes with the Lexus NX200t?
No, the NX is the next size category up and competes with the Q5, X3 and GLC.
Since in the North American market we don't have a Merc A-Class hatchback, we have the GLA instead, what we can do is view the GLA as an oversized A class hatchback. Very good review. Among qx30, qx50, NX and Q5 which one has most quiet cabin? Many Thanks Alex...
Very nice. Just wish you could pair sport and awd.
It’s sad that this model failed so badly. It was good looking, and had a lot of potential.
Hello Alex,
How would you compare this to the VW GTI. Pricing wise they are every similar. Performance and cargo wise GTi is better. Image wise and feature wise Infiniti is better. Overall which do you prefer and which do you think would be a better buy?

I enjoy your thorough infotainment reviews very much and I look forward to this one as I am currently considering this car for my next purchase.
Thank you for the great work your doing on this channel, its very much appreciated!
Dr. Agon I love the infotainment center on my QX30
Nissan and Mercedes Benz working together, I like that.
Samaan AlKhaldi Infiniti is luxury of Nissan.
@@freddyk8716 duhh
I love mine so far
Are you still loving it?
It's a nice looking car, I think Infiniti's style fits well to it. It's tiny though. Your point about the GTi is interesting.
the tiny size is the point lol
yeah the tiny size is a big turn on for many of us who prefer hatchbacks
+NOFATCHICK1 it is a lot of money for a swoopy, softer GTI. Loaded up it is in the mid 40s. I don't think being small makes it sportier or nicer to drive than from what I'm seeing. The outside looks nice though. It would have sold better if it were closer in size to an X1.
I think I might get the QX30 AWD!
What do you think the likelihood is of getting an AMG45 (Red sport) version or at least an AWD sport version?
Great review, the best and most technical there is!
Please do a review of the new Subaru Outback 3.6L, big fan of your channel and detailed approach.

Hi Alex, would you please review the Mercedes GLC? Thanks
Who else loves Alex? I do
Not as much as me >:0
nice review hopeing to text drive it
hey Alex, do you think that the new q60 will have the interior and infotainment as this qx30
It should be based on the Q50, not the QX30
Omg purchased mine today
I was wondering when the reviews for this and the Q60 were going to start coming out. Stylewise I think I like this more than the GLA. Are the interior materials the same or is one better than the other?
Alex when will you have your hands on a Jaguar XE Rsport?
Hey Alex, do you know any info on the q60 coupe ?
Is that GLK measurement as far as length for the actual GLK or for the new GLC and just a typo? Speaking of which, is a review of the new GLC in the works/books?
My memory is bad, but I believe it was actually the GLK
Rear taillights are sexy but the rear looks kinda busy
Any plans on testing Volvo s90? :)
No sound insulating pad under the hood? What kind of luxury car is this?
I was thinking that. You even get that on a basic Ford Focus.
Bean counters are keeping the engineers at bay. After all you're looking at probably 8$ for the pad and 45 cents for the body clips. Can't let that happen!
Hey Alex, How does this handle compare to a Mazda CX 5 ?
It's much better
pls take a quick minute to help me. Motormouth I , question for you. Im in the market for a small SUV and sedan categories, can you help me narrow the list of cars I need to test drive? what a nice car
It's funny how people always talk about domestic car makers and their badge engineering (GM is a big one for that) and yet we have a German and a Japanese car manufacturer sharing a vehicle together, which will probably get cross-shopped and be apart of comparison tests, even though they're essentially the same. I sat in the QX30 at an auto show and I was appalled at the amount of Mercedes buttons and switchgear it had. And it has no cargo volume. 19 cubic feet. My sentiment exactly I don't understand it either. Why badge engineer the same vehicle for the same market?
It's honestly more platform sharing than badge engineering. Without it Mercedes would not have been able to sell the GLA as inexpensively and Infiniti would not have had the QX30 at all. You must use a Key to start! How old tech for a $40K+ car! Speedo on the Left side of IP, very European! Does it have an electronic Parking Brake?
Ted Ball this is a 30 thousand dollar car. (A bit more like 32
It is push button start and has an electronic brake as well as being the best equipped car ever.
This car is beautiful and I want it but why does the rear wiper look incredibly cheap
AppleAddict55 The price for a luxury vehicle like this is quite cheap so I'm sure they decided to kinda cheapen it so it wouldn't be too pricey.
AppleAddict55 It's not cheap. It's actually very nice.
Would I be able to tow about 2000 pounds with this?
I love my Infiniti QX30 .. Anyone who knows how to drive would appreciate it
Y'all only know how to drive it cus it's hella cameras 🤷🏾
Yall sexy
Do you still own it? Updates on your car after 3 years?
Hey Alex, don't you think Infiniti pretty much copied the Mazda 3/Mazda Kodo design language? I am so amazed on how how this QX30 is so similar to the Mazda 3 Hatchback
They are similar, but who copied who I'm not sure, this is a derivative of the Infinti styling that launched on the M sedan before Mazda created "Kodo"
Please .. don't even try to compare this gem to Mazda ...
Looks a LOT like the rouge. Like they didn't even change the back end.
Any resemblance is pure coincidence since they share absolutely nothing with one another
I see no resemblance.
Hmm, seems like this car isn't available in Canada.
It is; on Infiniti Canada, it's under the Future Vehicles section.
Ah such a shame Infiniti didn't give the DCT to the Q50/Q60, a huge miss-step for such a performance oriented car.
In my neck of the woods!
Even my Kia Soul Exclaim has ventilated front seats.
Even?????? Infiniti certainly isnt alone in that omission. Build any of the top line luxury models from MB, BMW and Audi and you'll see vented seats still arent standard. Kia/Hyundai, in general, are just way ahead of the curve with offering this feature in less expensive cars.

Andre N Kia dealers suck. I prefer a better dealer experience over the features of the car.
The qx30 is a suv not a hatchback
Those plank-sided houses sure look like Seattle, but what's wrong with the sky? It's blue like Santa Cruz.
Now I can watch this again, lol. (:
I love the thumb nail (Honey, I shrunk the Infiniti.)
I test drove this car few days ago. Good driving Dynamics but not spacious in the second row or luggage space. BMW X1 or Mazda CX-5 is a better alternative

A Mercedes engine? So, basically the most unreliable Japanese car has been created lol.
You are not funny nor intelligent.
+Drift King actually he prolly not far off. merc reliabilty is trash
Not trash, just overly complicated in an unnecessary manner.
He has a point, I just spent four years in a CLA AMG, the interior disintegrated, got a bmw 4 series now and I'm happy.
Maybe bad luck but you know, shouldn't have "bad luck" on a new supposedly premium car
i wouldn't say the mercedes engine is unreliable but it is VERY raspy and thumpy while building speed. and maintenance cost is EXPENSIVE!!!!!
Sales that bad it's leaving the UK in 2020 so I understand. Nissan Infinity can't compete with Merc and the rest
why in the world would I buy a Infiniti with an absolutely unreliable Mercedes engine? One of the most appealing aspects of buying Japanese is the reliability so essentially you are removing that. No Thanks!
Nice front end...and interior. Seems small with a rear end that may be trying too hard...
The BMW took 6.8 seconds in our test we were never able to match BMW's claimed performance numbers. passing times in the Mercedes were also superior.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide Sport mode + shifter on S + break torque around 2000 RPM. 6.8 seconds seem high.
This vehicle isn't even available in Canada
It is; it is classed under "future vehicles" in Infiniti Canada website.
+Trades46 thanks!
Why would you get the Mercedes over this according to this review? Better in about every aspect and cheaper. You'd have to be a true brand snob.
Supertrooper697 The price for this luxury vehicle is actually quite cheap if you compare it with other luxury cars
Supertrooper697 Yeah I love my QX30
I like this New Mazda
What happened Alex, you completely skipped the "promised/complete" review of the 2017 Kia Sportage. Not trendy enough for you Alex!!!
I'm still trying, I haven't been able to get one on the schedule
Shouldn't it really be Alex IN Autos?
$44,000 would buy you a much better, bigger midsized luxury crossover with slightly less equipment. With real-world discounts avaiable on them that you will not see on Infinitis, they will be about the same price. This design is a fail based on the poor ride and mediocre acceleration for the class. Also, muliple reviews report it as cramped and lacking interior storage. Get a GTI and save $15,000.
Bruno TaTa Did you see the starting price? The price starts for just under $30k
Bruno TaTa I got $8,000 off of my QX30.
Wow, would consider at that price. I also note the base models go for less, but I like the sport suspension and higher trim.
I also must admit that the sport fwd knocks 1/2 a second off the 0-60 time due to less weight, making it more sprightly on the highway.
Bruno TaTa There is not much Wiggle room on the base QX30
and people says , Mazda copy Infiniti .. which angle, dummy?!!
If anything, Infiniti had this design before Mazda in their Essence concept years back.
Prince Hydra Infiniti had this design before Mazda did. It was in their future concepts vehicles way before Mazda
looks like mazda
Kinda cute, but the Lexus UX is going to destroy this!
J dont think
Wade Higgins
My brother has this car

Looks like Mazada...
