2017 Infiniti QX30 Review and Road Test | DETAILED in 4K UHD!

  • Is it a crossover or is it a luxury hatch? The answer is: yes. The QX30 in America is known in other markets as the Q30, the Q30S and the QX30 because it comes in a few flavors. Based off the closely related Mercedes GLA, the Infiniti is also a German/Japanese hybrid pulling some of the best traits from each company.
    0-30 : 2.5 Seconds
    0-60 : 6.4 Seconds
    1/4 Mile : 14.9 Sec @ 95 MPH
    60-0 Braking : 106 Feet
    There are a few things that make the QX30 unusual. First, Infiniti is very upfront about their parts sharing with Mercedes Benz. Second, Mercedes did not design the QX30, it's a bit more complicated than that. Infiniti's smallest crossover was designed by Infiniti but they had access to the Mercedes parts catalogue. The result is a car made in a Nissan factory in the UK containing an engine designed by Mercedes but built by Nissan in Tennessee. The car looks like an Infiniti and drives like a Mercedes. The result is an oddly cohesive car that's a better value than the related GLA 250 and I think a little more interesting as well.

    I think this car is quite an achievement for a first-year model that blends parts from different manufacturers. I do sometimes wonder what's the point of a crossover that's basically a hot hatch, and they seem to be plentiful these days. A full-on SUV gets you more room, more ground clearance and less polarizing styling for the most part IMHO. It looks like you can get the AWD model for $37 to $40k at the dealer. Not bad at all, but I can't help feeling like the upcoming QX50 will stomp this QX30 in almost every measure, particularly in terms of performance. I do like that the max torque happens at relatively low RPM, but that new 4-banger from Nissan coming in the new QX50 promises some serious numbers. Great review Alex!

    I think looks good. While it has packaging issues it's really no worse or better than the same size vehicles in this segment. I find it amazing that no matter how much this car looks different from the GLA that it's based on it's somehow diminished because you see seat controls and a steering wheel from arguably a more premium marquee. People can only comment on what's the same vs acknowledging how much differentiation that Infiniti put into this vehicle. Unfortunately the DB11 falls into this category as well.

    Superb review, Alex. I think you hit all the major salient points. Sat in one of these at the recent Chicago Auto Show. At 6' 2" tall, I fit in the front just fine, but the rear seat just doesn't cut it. For me, this is a 2-seat cute-ute with a manageable rear compartment (with the rear seats folded). One thing that you mentioned and I noticed was the extremely wide range of motion for the steering wheel. I was able to get a "just right" position in seconds, something that's difficult in most cars smaller than the mid-size category. Love the M-B seat controls -- wish more manufacturers would adopt them.

    Still think the best option in this segment is a CPO 2015 BMW X1 for 10k less than all the new ones, especially if you keep them less than 4-5 years. The CPO (6 years/100k) gives basically the same warranty as the new ones.

    I think that the INFINITI QX30 will do well for the company due to styling, features, and also. what it offers is reasonable. When compared to the CLA/GLA, you'll see that there are both similarities and differences between the two as Alex eloquently explained. Yes, it lacks some things that the Merc or even the BMW X1 offers (why compare an X1?), but in my opinion, that's what makes this vehicle better. I didn't like the QX30 at first, but the ones for 2018 have changed my opinion quite a bit. Well done, INFINITI!

    Model names all over the world are so confusing: here in Germany (or Europe), the Q30 ist the "normal" hatchback and the QX30 is the crossover-/SUV-like model, which makes also sense. There is no "S"- model, but different trims like "Sport" and "Performance" or "Tech" called trims - the both last ones have the same grill and interior design, the Sport has a different.

    • @teknicol
      @teknicol 5 лет назад +2

      I tested the CX3 and the CX5 awd Turbo Mazda's before going to try the Infinity CX30 awd Sports turbo. I can tell you the difference is like night and day. The delayed response and jerky behaviour of the Mazda's was disappointing but the difference in quality and handling leaves the Mazda's in the dust. I bought the CX30 and don't care if they have stopped making it because it was overpriced in the EU and not selling. Get one if you can as they are cheap for this reason and the warranty is superb with [parts easily avail;abl;e.

      My wife's 17 AWD has no issues at 37,000 miles. Too early to tell really. Mercedes makes great engines, and the transmission is smoother with Infiniti's software than Mercedes GLA, CLA, with the same engine and transmission. I had a 14 CLA and the QX30 is smoother shifting.

    I laugh at the hodgepodge of Infiniti & Mercedes in the interior. Since the GLA only comes with AWD, the Q30 Sport does have its unique trait. It cries for more power but since the powertrain is a straight transfer from Mercedes it is unlikely for them to provide any more power that it may threaten sales of the 45 AMG model.

    • @BigHeadClan
      @BigHeadClan 7 лет назад +1

      Trades46 That's the beauty of a tune with turbo motors, likely an easy way to get another 30-50+ hp on the cheap. I agree tho it would have been nice if Infinti just gave us that from factory.

      @@BigHeadClan My 'Sports Mdl' does have AWD and Turbo? I bought it because it has all the bells and whistles but primarily for the way it handles. It has an amazing, glued to the road sporty feel, and so quiet too. Especially when its pushed in the name of having a little fun on a quiet road. Never knew I could enjoy driving again in my seventies. This is not one of your CVT cheapos. Like a proper racer, this car is seriously AWD and incredibly solid on the road. Lifts my spirits whenever I get behind the wheel I'm hoping for a winding country road and set my GPS accordingly.

      I'm not personally a fan of CVT myself and own a Infiniti G37, I am plenty happy with the car especially a back road you can tell

      Infiniti has sold quite a few of these over the time it has been production.

      i agree its a fail because Mercedes told Infinity they can use a sport with NO All Wheel Drive... therefore helping to sell their japanese cars with Mercedes parts.. the original GLA in AWD is around 34k with not many add ons... i would get the Mercedes! its classy ..

    Poor cash strapped Nissan/Infiniti can't even design their own cars😂
    Mercedes & Nissan are EXTREMELY unreliable, buyers beware🤣

      depends on the models. Nissan/Infiniti models that are build in Japan are much more reliable such as the Patrol/QX80.

      William D Mercedes has not been particularly unreliable as of late. But infiniti has.

      Don't really care that much anymore, I sell them before the 70K powertrain warranty or even the 4/50K bumper to bumper would expire. As long as it's not a lemon, it'd be good enough. Most super reliable cars are complete bores.

      So I guess we should assume that you are a QX30 owner and you are putting forward a qualified opinion as an owner ,,, correct ?? I am a QX 30 owner, I'm a senior by the way and I have had plenty of vehicles in my fifty years of driving.
      I am totally impressed with this beautiful smaller SUV ( crossover ) from Infinity. I have the AWD model, Chestnut Bronze in colour and opted for the Premium package. With the minor exception of a dislike of push button start / stop I can certainly give this vehicle two big thumbs up. The dual clutch transmission is as smooth as silk and how anyone can say the two litre turbo engine ( 208 HP and plenty of torque ) is not enough power for a vehicle this size is beyond me.
      Interior finish is beautiful and I love listening to some fine opera on the Bose ten speaker sound system. Great job Infinity !!
