How to fix Halo; hire former Bungie staff, retain staff, stop large scale contract work, put fun and not eSports first, and stop listening to the activists.
It’s so funny how true halo fans who been around for 20 years, know how to make a halo game more than those in charge of 343/halo studios. Microsoft just needs to hire people who actually understand halo
They have made it a point to ban any Bungie staff. They even got rid of the guy who did the iconic Halo sounds tracks. They hate Halo, but love the money.
Hey that's not true. They had 4 games. You forgot to count MCC, which was probably the most embarrassing and incompetent 343 project considering all the problems they had and the fact that they were literally just remaking old games.
amazing they're being given yet another opportunity. No one cares about Halo, the only thing that could have saved it was giving it to someone like ID, which i still have no idea why you wouldn't give them a crack at it being microsoft owns them

The switch to Unreal is because these studios have no talent left capable of working on in-house engines, and they don’t plan on fixing that; all they want to do is hire more political activists
It allows them to shift focus to scripting and features rather than engine stuff when a better one exists. Unreal 5 is the best engine out there. Also gives them time to insert needless identity politics
It is, logically speaking, more than just “”hopeful thinking””, because UE5 has a lot of ease of use for scripting. You can make your own engine, but it won’t mean a DAMN thing if it’s not up to par with other engines.
It's also because they keep hiring temp workers, so it's easier with UE5 than their in-house engine, they won't have to teach the new workers how to use it. Now future Halo games will not only be crap but they will run like shit too.
Dude its so nice to have someone who agrees everyone seems to be thinking this is a comeback but ts really not its most likely the same people that made Halo Infinite.
The halo community always in a cycle, repeats “it’s so over” only to scream “we’re so back” the second they hear a single thing they like. Only to go back to “it’s so over” out of disappointment.
The halo fandom has long been a small cult with Stockholm syndrome, every time a game released since 343 came they get beaten up, but they still go back to shill the next game just to get egg on their face
Bethesda was already digging their own grave before Microsoft bought them. Fallout 4 being an RPG with extremely little RPG in it, breaking lore, and catering to the "go fast, action keeps the normies attention" mentality the lead writer has as well as the disregarding of lore and not even explaining why the main antagonist faction does what they do, marked how Bethesda was stuck going down the streamline and simplify while touting improved graphics path. Then we got hit with Fallout 76, that greedy, buggy mess of a scam. And then Starfield, another streamlined gameplay but buggy and bloated mess of an "RPG" rolls in at an exorbitant price, with a setting that has DEI stuffed everywhere into the background where it can be, and built around a core of nothing but loading screens.
Halo has been cooked since the end of reach, the halo rebrand means nothing even if they're bringing back old people who worked for old bungie. Please just let my boy rest finally it's been bastardized enough.
Art style is, though. Took them four games to get something that looks relatively like Halo, but still wasn't quite all there. Infinite's designs were a breath of fresh air compared to the generic post 2010 sci-fi slop designs they used in H4, H5, and H2A multiplayer. But it still suffered from modern sci-fi hexagon obsession taken to the extreme.
@@trashjash And story sprinkled over the top. They couldn't manage to conclude Halo Infinite's story, it was exploiting nostalgia and that's about it. I was hopeful from the initial announcement.... but the ex-employee accusations alone are too obvious. It's screwed up. Halo deserves a funeral at this point, just to be sent off to space. Their fuck-ups of the show, Halo 4's gameplay (and art style), Halo 5's bizarre story, MCC fuck-ups, and Halo Infinite's lack of content--insane BLM/LGTBQ+/cheap marketing drove the whole saga to the ground. That does not cover it all. They probably tarnished the extended canon of Halo I may never read anyway. I'll probably stick to Bungie's era books. If someone told me 343 Industries is the worst studio in the industry, I'd believe them. It's so joeoever.
One of the big problems is we live in an era where its normalized to deliver a game in a half-assed state because of "live-service" elements where they can drip feed content to keep people coming back, instead of delivering a fully fleshed out game from the start that hooks the players in and keeps them interested.
how come Bungie was able to release a game with all these features? does graphics really eat up that much of the game's development? is it the predatory monetization that eats up development is it the incompetent DEI hires? Seriously why can't studios make good video games?
The Bungie team created Halo, it was their baby. They respected it, they wanted it to be good. Most of them worked on every major title, from CE right through to Reach. They understood the franchise, they understood the engine because they'd built it themselves. They were knowledgeable, efficient, but most importantly, just wanted to make fun games.
Also MCC is still plagued with cheaters On top of plenty of other issues that "Halo youtubers" just ignore when they glaze the game. What happened to map vetos? Why are the spawns to garbage? Why's invasion in ranked? Why does it feel like you play the same 5 maps every game. MCC get plenty of deserved praise but very little deserved criticism
I’m sick of people merely talking about the game sucking. This is evil seeping into all games, movies, beer, etc. Do a video on Soros. He’s behind all of this. And I’m done with Halo and I mean that as an adult. I’ll keep the lore and play the old games. Done with halo
My biggest worry is the switch to unreal is just going to allow MS to continue to abuse the laws around contract workers and we’re just going to end up in the same situation. Endless people rotating in and out and a cohesive vision being lost. Ue5 will just make it easier to justify the contract work because it’s much easier to find people with UE experience than not.
Unreal Engine is a solution to the problem that doesn't exist. Concord was made with Unreal Engine but failed the most. That's because "good" engine can't fix poor choices and bad management.
A graphics showcase is absolutely ridiculous. Halo 1-3, Halo Reach and ODST will never be replicated. The Halo lore was so badass before 343 took over.
Remember when forerunners were supposed to be humanity before 343's take over of the franchise? Which made the lore about Human-Covenant War interesting.
I’d argue even before that was becoming known as a concept infiltrating and subverting this hobby. But yeah,it will DEFINITELY assure that halo stays dead.
That trailer had full of more red flags than a communist party rally. The move to Unreal Engine is primarily motivated by the studio's shady reliance on temporary contractors, who struggled to adapt to the studio's in-house engine when developing their previous titles. This signals an intention to continue using temporary workers, rather than building a permanent team who care deeply about the success of the franchise. Even if the new engine does indeed improve the visuals, no amount of technical wizardry will compensate for overall poor game design choices, should they continue to be made. The general makeup of the studio appears to he soyboys and purple-haired cat ladies. So I'm willing to bet that the next game they release will continue to alienate the core fanbase, in an attempt to appeal to a "modern audience", that doesn't actually exist.
"Style over Substance" pretty much defines the direction AAA gaming has gone ever since it became a multi-billion-dollar market segment. The layoffs, horror stories, unnecessary controversies and persistent failures are all just a 'mystery'.
r/Halo mods seething RN, ready to delete this video every time it gets posted on the subreddit. Also ready to tell you how TERRIBLE Marty O'Donnell is at every opportunity, even if it's unrelated to the conversation.
Disagree. I feel that the move to Unreal will allow them to spend less time battling their own overly ambitious game engine… Focus energy instead on Co-Op, split screen, story, cinematic set pieces, community …. Procedural generation in UE is a massive shortcut but it doesn’t have to mean ‘generic’ it can form a rough foundation that can be crafted into ingenious maps and level design. One thing I can agree on- the rebrand/name change is whatever.
Halo 5 had some the most fun multiplayer and customs imo. It was so much fun. Halo 4 was shit but seeing a forerunner in game and their tech was cool. The idea was cool but execution SUCKED
@ikagura I found it very cool and the lore is good. But what in the fuck was that Halo 4 ending and why was the didact killed in a comic. He should have been a major villain for 3 video games. The thing is we know that its not crazy that he is still alive, theres a lot of lore from characters from the old times. There mendicant bias and its counterpart alive too. It could have been explored so well but they decided to make each game not connect to the previous ones. I know theres also ancient hive precursor god like beings too. Im not well versed in the lore cuz I stopped playing and watching 2020 but I know that theres so much unexplored territory
343i's games will always be just bad fanfiction to me. Fanfiction isn't even the right word, since 343 doesn't like the original heart of Halo. It's spitefiction. Humans were always the decendents of Forerunners btw, no matter what Frank O'Connor's bad fiction does to try and change that.
We have zombie franchises in gaming. They keep making new iterations because they want to make money but there's none of the passion or creativity. It's 100% about making money. On top of that, they put a bunch of pride flags and diversity in the games as an added insult to the players. We just need to stop giving them money. Play through the backlogs. Play some retro games. Just hold the money for long enough that they get the message that this laziness and political pandering is not okay.
I’m sorry them stripping all social aspects has been what killed me as a halo fan. This may be controversial, but proximity chat was so unique to halo….how could they ever think--“let’s remove this feature” when you saw the endless community clips and viral moments. These people are just tone deaf, profit driven corporations trying to give the illusion of nostalgia.
the change to UE5 carries major implications at a company level. over 40% of the previous efforts were just to maintain and develop the Slipspace Engine. Changing to UE5 means the new talent does not get stuck and frustrated in a useless and steep learning curve, and mayor talent from all over the industry can be poached if needed, a lot of the toxic leadership has been purged, and the only man who has shown some spine, being in charge of the major overhaul that MCC got after being a literal turd, is now in charge of the studio. Having the approval of this first step by figures of Lehto's Calibre show this is a solid first step. If they do not have anything combat-wise or story-wise ready to share what do you expect? not every vidoc can be life-altering. You can be a pessimist, you're fully entitled to it, but based on facts, this is not bad news in the least.
"yeah halo so dead" get real 😂 ya cant stop talking about it. people still playing it and theres still things coming out for infinite as well as a new studio and multiple games in the works. yeah halo is dead 🙄🙄🙄🙄
I still feel 5 was the end. Idk 4 at least had a dedicated passionate team with a vision. Also 4 did in fact release content complete with all the good features. I still find it as the most traditional of 343's games
The premise of this video is incorrect. Changing the engine isn’t about the graphics, it’s about the ability to work with the engine. The slipspace engine is just the BLAM! Engine with a new coat of paint. It was over 20 years old and was notorious for being extremely difficult to work with. Employees would have to spend months just to simply start to understand how to build on the engine and make content. I’m not a 343 shill, and I’m not saying that the re-brand is gonna fix halo. I’m saying that the engine change is a big and necessary change.
Makes no sense to complain that the new ce chief is bulky bevause he was always bulky like what? And are you really saying its bad because it actually looks really good in infinite and i feel like some of your opinions just dont hold
Why is Halo dead? Infinite was loved at launch. 87 metacritic! Yes they failed to support the multiplayer from day 1. But that's why they are moving to unreal. That custom old Bungie engine is too slow to support with a modern game. Its too late for the players to return to infinite but the multiplayer is amazing now.
Microsoft, Bioware, SE, Bandai Namco, Ubisoft, lots of companies losing money, and in case of ubisoft and Bioware, possibly being shut down and sold by next year.
The only thing 343 did right was finally letting us PC players experience the other Halo games past 2... (Yes I know it was a disaster on initial launch, and it still has issues today, but still)
If I’m not mistaken, some of the infinite development issues was contracted employees who didn’t know how to use the slip space engine and had to spend a significant amount of time learning how to, and by the time they got the hang of it their contract was up. Unreal engine should mitigate that issue. That being said I’m not holding my breath, halo died on reach with noble 6…. Remember, no pre-orders
I remember playing Halo for the first time when I was just a kid and it’s sad to see where Halo and the gaming Industry has gone especially over the past 5 years.
The only good thing about switching to unreal engine is that many Devs dont need to learn a new Engine before working on Halo. I remember Halo infinite had a new Engine were Devs needed to learn the Engine before doing anything or changing anything to Halo Infinite. But i agree... the graphics dont really matter. Just sad what Halo has become
Never been a Halo fan even though I had an Xbox 360. I was more into GOW. I feel for the for the diehard fans of Halo since Halo & Master Chief was essentially the main franchise and poster boy for the company. Such a sad downfall.
Halo is a video game. It has fun factor. Simple gameplay with unique characters, weapons, vechiles and atmosphere. Thus I dont thing halo will ever die as a video game just be rebranded.
Mostly I agree, but on the other hand they used the technical preview and the engine shift to show that instead of having to develop their own engine alongside the game they can now focus on other issues which includes narratives and story elements. Personally I liked Chief’s new appearance, it’s basically his Infinite Mark V Combat Evolved armor which was notoriously bulky. I’m cautiously hopeful but encourage to atleast see what this new leadership does before it is bombarded with criticism.
Unpopular opinion- Infinite was the most arcade play oriented halo game since 3. The hate it gets, while warranted for the launch and state of the game at time of launch- is not warranted for the gameplay. It was fun, and people got exactly what they asked for.
Im sick of these slop “halo is dead” videos. I agree with most of the stuff in this and I acknowledge that we need change, but making shitty clickbait videos like this with information thats already been said a million times is NOT the way to do it. It’s just killing the community and making people not want to play Halo.
Corporations are aiming their efforts at Generation Alpha. Hence, the DEI bullsh*t and general brainrot crap like "Fortnite" skins in literally every damn competitive shooter game these days, even if that shooter doesn't have anything to do with the theme of the skins. Here's a few examples: * Kitty cat ears in Halo Infinite * Nikki Minaj as a playable character in Call of Duty * Ridiculous gun skins in Call of Duty What next? My Little Pony and Hello Kitty themed armor skins in Gears of War? Taylor Swift as a playable character in Helldivers? LGBTQ characters that have neon colored hair and more pronouns than an English grammar class in God of War?
This clickbait is ridiculous. Look, I've been a pretty damn strict critic of Halo and 343 over the past 10 years too. But the vidoc wasn't just about nicer graphics. It was more so about not having to waste time and resources fighting with their old engine, which will lead to smoother creative processes and more content being created at a steadier Pace. I get the feeling you know that, but I guess saying all they care about is graphics is good rage bait right?
I'm still pissed that halo 5 isn't properly ported to mcc on pc, ideally id rerelease, and fix everything wrong with it(pay to win, plot, artstyle, warzones weird gamemode structure). However at Microsoft they currently just fire everyone they can before they are obligated to pay out health insurance, so every game under microsoft is doomed until that changes. It's amazing and sad that people modding halo 3 and reach are making way better strides to provide new content, and should be the one's working on a spiritual halo successor on unreal 5 rather than the latest group of days numbered intern programmers at 343 making the "official" next game. I guess the Skinwalker modern bungie did a better job with destiny in the end by being less disappointing.
Yeah the main criticism was definitely the graphics. I can guarantee them a million pre-orders if in the dev diary they say they have scrapped every single dei goal, fired every dei hire, and returned to making games by dudebros, for dudebros.
you say that, and we all know in reality it would barely get 1000. Political people like you dont care about video games. DEI or "Woke" or whatever cultural boogeyman you need to spout off about isnt why Halo has been suffering. its been suffering because it was given to people who simply have no respect for the series as a whole and are saddled with constantly changing staff who cant sit down and get used to the project and series without being sent packing after 6 months. politics has nothing to do with it, but sadly that wont stop idiots with the pepe frog for injecting politics into matters it doesnt belong, you people are legit worse then the Woke and DEI, since yous cream more about it then they do, youre obsessed with it and the Gamer who Cried Woke.
What else did you want them to show besides graphics? All they’ve been doing likely is creating assets in unreal, and unreal engine is a lot more than graphics. You realize that 343 has been a tech studio having to train their new interns on the slipspace which is time costly and a waste of time. The slipspace engine was such a pos that this is the smartest decision to go forwards. It’s not about graphics, it’s about spending less time being a tech studio and spending more time on storytelling and gameplay polishing.
We can thank Fortnite for expanding live service and battle passes in addition to microtransactions. Sure the game was peak from 2017-2019 but fuck did it fuck gaming long term. Not to mention sweet baby inc that put salt into the wound.
Hold on I'm really confused, how was Infinite "woke?" Like genuinely, I mean I just played this and thought "Yeah, this is a Halo game" not that this game was like pushing an agenda or anything.
I knew the minute I started Halo 4 that 343 was the death blow to the franchise. For them to take a massive cash cow with a die hard fan base with an already established lore and formula just to fumble the ball that badly was actually astonishing.
Halo was done after Reach! Vote with your wallet... If real villains like @4:15 inject their bullshit, spend your money on other games that respect the consumer who just want to enjoy some fun escapism.
I would rather have Halo 2 era graphics if the game is amazing. I really don't care what it looks like. I just want a good game. Who wants to bet that it is still going to take them forever to make a new game even with UE5, and it is still going to be only 40 percent finished at launch.
They should've taken a different direction with the trailer. We should've heard, "Hey guys, we'll have more time to work on other aspects of the game now that we don't make game engines anymore."
People don't realize that that armor change is highly unisex. And neither depicts a male nor a female. And if you remove the head, it is either a chunky female or a chunky male. That clearly was done intentionally (I believe, not know for certain). So let's not forget that as well
We have to give Halo Studios at least one game before consigning Halo to the grave. Or at least handing Halo off to id Software, Santa Monica Studios or From Software, which I will promote until the day I die.
Microsoft hired people that hate halo to make halo…. 😒 This isn’t the first time this has happened …. We never got another conkers bad fur day.. Microsoft destroyed Rare Games one of the greatest game studios ever!!
I get the feeling its gonna be the same old shit from 343 and bc they call themselves halo studios now they think they have years to fuck around before people get upset. I remember people for years saying "its a new studio give them time to settle into it" but I knew then they weren't making halo games. 4 and onward felt like bad fan games, infinite was at least a weak attempt.
I'll be devils advocate, while honestly, I don't have my faith for Halo to come back, switching to UE5 definitely was the right choice. Graphics aside, hiring competent developers is going to be much easier, on boarding will be essentially instant and iteration will be 10x quicker, rather than having basically none in slipspace. Say what you will, but UE5 is a much easier engine to use, so things get made quicker, and devs are very easy to find, both good things.
This video says it all. We want something like what we experienced in the original combat evolved. We are now dads that want to play with our sons, and we want them to feel what we felt when the first Halo came out. The best game ever.
when I saw that final cut with that pride vlag I have accepted that Halo will never return to it's former glory. Space Marines 2 is the prime example how simple gamers actually are. Good Story, Good mutliplayer and no in game store or battle pass nonsense.
GAMEPLAY > GRAPHICS Some of the best FPS game's we've gotten in the past decade where indie games with retro style graphics/Limited graphics but had FANTASTIC gameplay and creativity!
Honestly, Slipspace was such a disaster that switching to UE should help (hopefully) free up resources to focus on great gameplay and story elements. I'm hopeful they will do well, I really don't think they've been trying to F up halo, they've just been focusing efforts in the wrong areas. Fingers crossed.
Moving to UE5 will help a lot. I don't know how anyone ignored the horror stories of the devs having their engines freeze for like half an hour, going to lunch, coming back, making a small change, and it crashing. It was crippling. Obviously, it will not fix the fundamental issues that we *all* know. But saying that moving to an actual competent engine won't help does not make sense. Now, personally, I have no hope regardless lol. We might get a better game than infinite though.
We don’t even get playable elites or assassinations. Never thought we’d get to a point where cod gets assassinations(finishers) and Halo removes them!!
I don't care about Halo or any of the other points you've raised but I'd like to point out that the primary reason they, and many other companies like CDPR switch to Unreal Engine is the massive monetary and time cost of developing your own engine. It's not just about graphics.
@@Kai-ky6tf I wanted to hear his reasoning for the title. To clarify, when I said I don't care about other points, I meant that because I don't play Halo I'm not invested in what are the problems with the franchise and how they can be solved. So I'm not creating excuses for the studio or defending them, because I don't play the game. Saying they switched engines because of the graphics or to advertise they are using Unreal Engine doesn't reflect full the reality of the situation and I wanted to mention the main motivation behind the switch.
tried to play infinite today but every lobby i get into is 100+ ping and when i put my settings to local i couldn't find a match in 15 minutes of queueing it's really dead in europe
Remember when 343 removed the Farewell from Bungie at the end of the Reach campaign on MCC?
Pepperidge Farm remembers.

This comment is so hilariously unhinged. I love it

Microsoft has killed off Forza/Halo/Gears/Bethesda all in their control
Nahh Forza horizon is still great
Forza still Alive 😒
Forza's still good, pretty much the only first party Xbox franchise that still is.
Bethesda wasn't killed by Microsoft but by themselves

With all the problems surrounding 343’s Halo, graphics is not one of them.
I agree this is problem number one with halo since 4
how come Bungie was able to release a game with all these features?
does graphics really eat up that much of the game's development?
is it the predatory monetization that eats up development
is it the incompetent DEI hires?
Seriously why can't studios make good video games?
You also have to remember that crunch culture was huge back then. Now crunching is a big no no
they're simply hiring the wrong people.
No talent left in AAA, all the good devs went Indie.
It's the firing almost every game dev before anyone is finished and, not firing idiotic executives and management that suck at their jobs

@trashjash wait did they actually try to retcon the fact that humans are descendants if forerunners? How?
What a dumb ass headline. Anything can be declared dead until a new game comes.

If I’m not mistaken, some of the infinite development issues was contracted employees who didn’t know how to use the slip space engine and had to spend a significant amount of time learning how to, and by the time they got the hang of it their contract was up.

Switching to UE5 is not a problem. The problem is that they won't be able to make a fun game with a cool story.

Long story short, 343 is saying “Guys we have great graphics, we’re so back, everyone rejoice, this is a dawn of a new era.”
Why did you click on the video then?
@@Kai-ky6tf I wanted to hear his reasoning for the title. To clarify, when I said I don't care about other points, I meant that because I don't play Halo I'm not invested in what are the problems with the franchise and how they can be solved. So I'm not creating excuses for the studio or defending them, because I don't play the game. Saying they switched engines because of the graphics or to advertise they are using Unreal Engine doesn't reflect full the reality of the situation and I wanted to mention the main motivation behind the switch.

First Xbox was good and Xbox 360 was a blast. Xbox One was ok but Xbox Series X and PS5 for the most part are trash because of all the woke trash.
Dude, it’s BEEN dead.
343 proved they can make a solid FPS. But can’t make a Halo game.
Hopefully we will have some top surgery's scars ...
