we do not want next Skyrim,we just want another Bethesda formula project, handcrafted world, dungeons, quests and actual story in it for both good and evil roleplay route existing, sometimes neutral between 2 factions like stormcloaks and imperials, and we would be fine even if the size of the game open world is not bigger than Skyrim, what we want isa game Bethesda cares for,to make immersive lore filled world,Starfield wasnt a game it was just a physics engine sim disguised as a game,if they go back to their old formula regardless of how well the game does, people will stil like it in the end

That's because Bethesda has this weird habit of hiring fresh-faced, inexperienced developers. On top of having only a few hundred developers compared to the thousands that other similar companies have.
And then they try to make these giant groundbreaking games with that small inexperienced team.
They're essentially a large indie company pretending to be a AAA one.

    • @knavishroot1238

  • @ThrobbGoblin
    @ThrobbGoblin 3 месяца назад +126

    Here's my take;
Skyrim came out in a time when open-world RPGs were still something of a rarity, especially in the AAA space.
Skyrim brought that rarity into the hands of a very, very broad audience- and it was a slam dunk.
After Skyrim, the "open-world-RPG with shallow mechanics" became commonplace, to the point of oversaturation.
Back then, our options for casual-huge RPGs were basically limited to Bethesda titles- with some rare outliers like Fable.
Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas.
Fallout 4 was the first sign that they were no longer at the peak.
Everyone I knew at the time considered the game a disappointment- very reminiscent of what happened with Starfield recently.
We all played it and were really enjoying ourselves for the first few hours, but it rapidly started wearing-off as we peeled back the layers to find nothing underneath.
(I'm well-aware that this wasn't the general sentiment, but this was the experience I shared with my friends back then)
Now, we have Starfield releasing in a world where there's no end to the options we have for accessible RPGs.
We have Cyberpunk 2077, we have the Far Cry games with those RPG-progression elements, the more recent Assassin's Creed games took on an RPG persona, we have Obsidian creating direct competition with Bethesda's "first-person fantasy RPG" style with Avowed (even though they lie and say that they're *not* trying to do that), we have the Borderlands franchise, we have survival-RPGs like Conan: Exiles or Ark, we have Dragon's Dogma, we have Middle-Earth: Shadow, we have South Park tie-in RPGs that are *actually fun*, we have YAKUZA games turning into RPGs!!!
Bethesda no longer exists in a world where making something with "the most broad appeal in the industry" will work.
We have been absolutely blessed in the past decade with RPGs appealing to every genre and sub-genre imaginable.
In the modern landscape, a game developer casting too wide a net often finds their catch is just a sea of mixed reviews.

No, I think part of it is that they are also listening to console players. A lot of console players were supportive of the Anniversary Edition and FO4 Next-Gen update, even with all the issues they caused. They bought the multiple releases of Skyrim, and praised Fallout 4. And I’m sure more copies of BGS games were sold on console than PC. Considering how many console players have low expectations and are easily pleased, Bethesda has been catering to them with the knowledge that they can afford to lose the PC audience.

Most players are casual RPG players that haven't played a hardcore rpg in their life. Their standards are very low and they may even be overwhelmed with real RPG systems, interesting characters, good stories, consequences with your choices and a complex combat system.
Bethesda didn't release a good game since over a decade and is completely incompetent. The casuals get bored too and don't want the same slop with a different coat everytime. They have work and a family now and aren't willing to spend their time with an average or below average game.

Most of the games I had the most fun this last couple of years were all games that came out "out of nowhere" with no marketing, no trailers, and no 6 years prior teasers. The irony is that one of them was from Bethesda themselves with HiFi Rush, being aware it was a 3rd party studio, which M$ then decided to have the "genius" move of shutting them down.
Hype builds up preorder sales, but it also builds up extreme expectations which become impossible to satisfy. Expectations of which I now give for granted to be disappointing, due to the constant burns the AAA market has provided me for so long. I think it's some good 4 years that I don't buy any AAA at all, give AA a chance only after they got released, and focusing my trust almost entirely on indie games.
Bethesda should attempt to bring out a genuinely good RPG (not TES. A different IP created ad-hoc) out of nowhere, with no announcements or trailers, and see how it goes, to build up some trust back. To me, seeing "20 years in the making" or teasers of something coming in "203X" only means "overbloated project which faced/is facing endless development hell". It is NOT something to brag onto.

The problem with a new IP can be seen with Starfield vs ES and FO. Both older IP were created long ago, by men much more creative and imaginative (and probably more intelligent) then the current crop at BGS. These creatives are long gone. It’s why older fans hate modern BGS games, as Todd and co rip out, retcon, and blatantly ignore old lore, replacing it with unimaginative, boring, contradictory, or even nonsensical new lore. Look at Starfield’s lore, and how bland and sanitized it is compared to even FO4 and ES5.

    • @ironclad4451

I think these studios get stuck on one type of game, and don't consider which format suits the game. There's still a decent segment of people who like turn based JRPG or CRPG games, so bethesda should lean in that direction with heavy dialogue and an immersive story. Even if its more linear it would play to the strengths of TES detailed world building and fleshed out locations.
Dragonquest 8 is a fantastic JRPG and a TES game in that vein would be great.
they seem to be doing just the exact same game, with a different skin again and again, and frankly they lose features with each installment.

The game itself would take 15 minutes to load. After the game is loaded, splash screen will appear with message: "press fire (on Joystick) or "Enter/Return". After hitting the button or key, the level starts to load. cca, another ~5 minutes (per level mind you). While loading, the screen goes into psychedelic trans with sound of a dial up model the whole time (establishing line with the ISP). Class buff/debuffs, racial buff/debuffs, special abilities for race/class, special enchantments for race/class, min-maxing, height, speed, specific racial/class/faction hidden quests and tying that all together with non class/racial elements to form a actual RPG.

@@DieEineMieze Just because people can critique it, doesn't mean that its not a masterpiece. Look at games made nowadays like Cyberpunk, Elden Ring and Baulders Gate 3. There is plenty to pick apart and criticize for those games but that doesn't mean they aren't masterpieces. Hell, Fallout New Vegas, a game everyone simps for can't even run half the time yet that game is considered one of the best RPGs of all time. Also "Bethesda formula" is used in all open world RPGs and frankly Skyrim still does a lot of things better then those games. The Reason BGS themselves are not pulling it off anymore is because they are devolving their design. In other words, they ruined their formula. Also I've never seen anyone credit BGS to the mods. They are 100% a part of the game though since everyone has access to them now but just because BGS didn't make them doesn't mean they don't count as part of the game.

I’m just gonna say it, Skyrim isn’t that great. I’ve rarely desired to go back and play it. I remember I beat the main story, got 100 smithing, and 100 block/shield. It just doesn’t have that same excitement and exploration enjoyment as oblivion and Morrowind had. Also so many people judge Skyrim, based on beautiful mod changes. That wasn’t the original or developer content. When I really think back to this game, it was honestly quite stale and mundane. Every cave I explored was lifeless and empty or cookie cutter. The combat lost its luster after playing for a few hours. I genuinely am curious how I beat the game, cause any time I see video gameplay of it, I just wonder what kept me playing it as long as I did?
I still have fond memories of fallout 3 and genuinely enjoy going back to it sometimes. I really think Skyrim was the beginning of the end of Bethesda. They didn’t carry over what made quests and exploration exciting in older games .

    • @heatherharrison264

My view on Skyrim is similar, though I have had plenty of fun with it. Skyrim is an RPG-lite cozy game that is trying to look like an epic fantasy adventure. When I just want to relax and turn off my brain, it can be fun to wander aimlessly around the world, grab all the useless loot I can find, and hoard it in chests in the player houses. It's a nice enough world to explore, but the depth of a game like Daggerfall or Morrowind simply isn't there. I recently got back into Morrowind and messed around with it a little, and it reminded me of just how much is missing from Skyrim. I think I might find some good mods, create a custom class, and play through the game again, though it might be a while since Timberborn just got a big update and I'll probably spend the next few days building beaver cities. I think I'll join House Redoran this time since, for some reason, I've never done that before. (I'm partial to House Telvanni - I like grumpy, crazy mages.) As for the next Elder Scrolls game, I think all we can expect is that it will be a decent, middle-of-the-road experience that isn't quite up to the standard of Skyrim, and that it will be polluted by an overpriced cash shop. Those who want a hard core RPG need to look elsewhere. Bethesda doesn't make those anymore.

@@heatherharrison264 friend of mine who loves Morrowind, adequately points out how he loves that the quests don’t hold your hands. The instructions can be as simple as head east past the giant tree. Skyrim gives you a path and marks it on your map, almost every cave feels the same, the combat gets so stale after enough time. Like BG3 every play through feels like a new experience with dialogue I missed last time, or characters I didn’t fully utilize in my party, different ways to approach every dialogue or combat. The npc interactions in Skyrim were so stale, versus haggling vendors in Morrowind for 10 mins until they relented. The guilds were so much more memorable in oblivion. I also laughed so much playing fallout 3 with so many niche interactions. Just felt the empty lifelessness of their open world, full of very dull experiences.

It's a bit of a shame in and of itself that a judgment can be made based on something that has not been released. Very often, complaining about the fact that it takes too long before a game is released leads to disappointment upon release, while trying to rush releases compromises its quality, after which complaints manifest over just how badly it turned out.
Some people enjoy aspects of the new Bethesda games; some do not. If a game isn't targeted toward the likings of one group, that doesn't mean it won't appeal to others.
Neutral, Bethesda is toeing a tight line. The time they take between releasing The Elder Scrolls VI, TES6, anticipation among their fans could go unrealistically high-a level where it could be almost impossible for Bethesda to meet such expectations. On the other hand, rushing TES6 will result in a low-quality game where mismanagement will open them to criticism both by fans and detractors alike. No matter how the game will turn out, there are still instances of negativity that cannot be avoided, be it from people who did not like their previous titles or people who are nitpicky with the new release.
It's interesting to note that even Skyrim was a moderately detailed game and didn't need a very powerful computer to operate. That made it more accessible to almost anyone. It probably contributed to its high sales and popularity. For many, maybe this was their first game-a new experience that felt like a breakthrough at that time. Of course, this is just my speculation.

Very well said! Also the Hate fad for RUclips clicks or X is also I huge reason so many good games recieve as many good reviews as bad but you don't see the good ones unless you look. No game will or can ever be for every gamer and made exactly how they want, seems very short sighted for gamers to expect that. If you didn't like the past Bethesda games move on already, stop trying to make them change to what you want, your not the target audience. I love all there games, shocking I love Starfield too wow! How is that possible?? Easy it is 75% just like all there other games but with better graphics, and more spread out locations, also has loading screens like ALL there other games too but if you played those on Xbox 360 or PS3 you know the loading times for entering buildings or dungeons was way way longer. In Starfield there what 3-5 seconds. My only expectation is I want them to stay true to Bethesda games and not change too much, graphics will be better like Starfield, all they need is more crafted locations, quest, NPC's/followers and story that are all bigger than Skyrim. I loved the combat in Vanilla Skyrim, do not like MCO or souls like combat. Either way I will love it for what they create not what I want as I am not making there game.

‘There aren’t many examples of advanced physics in the game’
Bro, every cell of this game contains dozens of objects that all have their own physics, and not only that the game remembers them even when you aren’t in the cell. You realise how nuts that is? It’s remembering the physics of an object that isn’t even rendered. Most games only really have to have the physics of the player and enemies when they ragdoll. The creation engine has to remember the physics of every single one of those sandwiches and succulents, all at once, even in a different cell. Then add that so many of those cells have different gravity settings.
Just to be clear I’m not fanboying, and the game was absolutely mid. But that aspect is insanely complicated and I take my hat off to Bethesda for it. There’s a reason why no other games really operate like that with clutter.
