I am a huge music guy. I listen to everything that's not rap or hip hop. I listen to so much music and I can safely say that this is my FAVORITE SONG OF ALL TIME. WHOO HOO HOOOO
...i remember this song since I was a kid... this melody is heart breaking... violin is splitting my soul in two *6y9m12d*... sonja volim te zauvijek, nadam se da ovo neces vidjeti, aljo :(
I must admit I'm biased - my dear old mum (RIP) was Irish - but there's something special about the Celts. They tend to put their hearts and souls into their music. Van, the Frames, Damien, and on and on. Thanks for posting this. Very enjoyable.
+The Scottish Cowboy, or is that the Irish Cowboy, the Gaelic Cowboy. Well, Mike is both an Irish rocker and a Scottish rocker if there ever was one. I wish I had discovered this band and this song before my half Irish husband died. I think he would have reveled in it, as any good Irishman would, even if sung by a Scots Man. Thank you for this music and performance.
What to say... Waterboys are BEYOND all ever existed. They are magic, they play magic, they are the best group ever. Magic, magic. Thank You, Waterboys, that you just are. You gave me magic.
passion .. power... The Big Music.... awesome.... if you havent seen them live check out the festivals.... awesome... Thankyou Mr Mike Scott & The Waterboys... in my heart forever... discover their music people... inspirational.. x
Look at that crowd control. These guys are amazing. They've got the entire crowd completely focused on them, and even on this small video screen you can just feel the energy they've got going in that room. The audience just starts clapping along with the beat around 4:30. They don't even prompt the crowd to do it. The people just clap along because they're having such a wonderful time. If you can get a crowd to clap, sing and dance along with you without even trying, you're a great performer.
I fell in love with this song and the band when I saw the film waking ned, got the album just a couple of weeks ago and can't stop playing it it's just so good. Would love to see them live that would be so wonderful.
To end the 'Irish'/'Scottish debate: yes, Mike is Scottish. From Wikipedia: "some cynics claim that Scotsman Mike Scott gave Irish music back to the Irish... his impact can't be underestimated", but Scott himself explains that it was the Irish tradition that influenced him; "I was in love with Ireland. Every day was a new adventure, it was mythical...
@JackStraw65 Indeed, one of the sweetest tunes ever, so joyful so as to take me into a state of otherness, very very peculiar, I bought a record by them without really knowing their music, must have been my late sister from heaven leading me, fell into their beautiful spell at once and forever.
MY GOD. I love this song, Mike's voice, this dance, this twirl, this fiddle, this lyric. Every time I see it I feel that I was there... thank you for posting it. I work at Starbucks and this season they play everyday this song. Makes me jump and twirl every time... I love this band since "the whole of the moon"... I wish I could travel to Porto next month...
+ Bruce . I don’t doubt you, but it is “The Whole of the Moon”. Maybe another shot of Scotch or Irish Whisky brought you here. Just kidding. You are right, “The Whole of the Moon” and many of Mike’s songs are underrated. And he is quite a performer for the audience, and seems to be emboldened by his audience participation with the “Whoo, whoo, whoo -- whoo.
Pretty good job for whoever got the footage. Good version of a great song. Anyone from Pittsburgh may know Bill Toms, he does a cover - not as good but hey.
@zoobremia Don't feel bad, they don't play "real" music on the radio in the states either (unless it is satellite). Check out the band Carbon Leaf, they are from Virginia and are a great live band.
+ Gallus Cowboy. What a performer. I think he beats (and there’s a maybe) Tom Petty. And I’m betting you that Tom Petty was Scotch Irish. Just to make it clear, I’m only speaking of the sound, not the lyrics. I have just recently discovered Mike Scott and what a pleasure. I started with “The Stolen Child”, by Yeats .How beautifully executed . I don’t really know about Tom Petty’s origin, it’s just that the sound is so familiar. I come from a region rich in the Scotch Irish. Think John Jacob Niles and Appalachia.
it,s true he does use the open chords, but i find if you go to a barred Am then slide down to an open C it really does sound good, the strummin rythym is quite simple, dont forget there,s 3 guitars goin on there,it does throw you out.the main stum is crash bang, crash bang!
In Heaven, the Waterboys are the house band.

Greetings from Greece
Mike Scott and the guys had a great session with them in Hennigans Bar Sligo 1987 what a time... tempis fugit! Great memories .
Great show this summer 2010 in Évora, on a hot mediterranean night, nothing like a freshness of a celtic song.
this is just brilliant. I love how they bring the crowd together with the little twirls. They're just rocking it at 4:30
this would have to be the best video clip I have vere seen for a rock band, Steve and Mike, dancing on the stage, well done lads, good entertainment.
