Vladimir Pasuikov is in my opinion the most impressive choral basso profondo I´ve ever heard. That 100% modal low A1 was just amazing...and his massive lion-like voice is very pleasant.
There is a very wide spectrum of harmonics within the sound - not just the fundamental pitches, but the associated harmonics heard on individul voices, which mkes it an incredibly rich, warm and satisfying sound. It is ful of soul.
It reminds me of church when I was a boy. We had a choir of all the older ladies and gentlemen who would sing in the choir above everyone. I haven't been a practicing church goer in a while so this brought back some good memories. Not enough to make me sit through a 3 hour service (1/2 russian/english) anytime soon but enough to make me atleast sit down and appreciate my heritage
such a serious basso triumph starting at 3:00 and then the magnificent "ascending to heaven" choir immediately thereafter! Amazing stuff. This a piece that may be sung at a funeral.
I saw them in St. Petersburg in 2004. Their Debut cd on EMI is awesome (recommended for everyone), but to hear them live.... that is something completely different! WOW!! Words can describe.
i addicted to this post nearly 1 and half years. and always return to hear to hear this wonderful music. how beautiful! and the direction. has no air, and accurate, polite, just love it. thank you for posting. i can say this vidio is the most precise trasure i ;ve found in youtube ever.
3:41-5:28 is sublime, coming out of Vlad's solo, their voices and shifts in key get more dynamic and layered with every second. I'm glad I have no idea what they're singing,it allows me to have more of an emotional connection to the music on its own merit.
Love the major chord at 3:54, 4:07, love the choral texture of the "baritones" at 4:32, and 4:49, and 5:09. Rich...warm...heartfelt... That major chord again 5:41....I love this song...makes you want to be there and sing with them!
from about 4:45 to 5:23 is my favorite part. I listened to it over and over. The chord at 5:14 which I think is a suspended chord and then it resolves to a 5th sent chills down my spine!!
Stunningly beautiful and humble. I feel the same awe when listening to the amazing ANDREY NEMZER singing SAINT FRANCIS PRAYER. Such humility and inspiration!.
this is just brilliant. Can't get any better that this!!! One of the things I have to do in my life before I die is to go to Russia and listen to a real Basso profondo such is Vladimir Pasiukov!!! That would really be a dream come true for me. I hope I will be able to do that one day!!! Great stuff... Can't stop listening to this... Thank you for posting!!! If you have some more, I would be glad to see it!!! Greetings!!!
It's great to see a video like this. There is far too little of it to be found on the internet, as far as I'm concerned. I'm looking at the concert schedule of this choir and hope to be able to schedule a chance to hear them live. Truly superb.
They just finnished up their tour. They performed in Miami, Atlanta New York area, KY and Aiken SC. There were only 9 dates fro this first run tour. One of the shows was pulled. If you have any questions for the director he is sitting next to me until 3/25/09
Thank you for this video! And for the link. It looks like their first show in the U.S. in 2009 is in Palm Beach, Florida, which is only about 1/2 hour from where I live. I'm definitely getting tickets!
There is a female choir. Several of their songs are on one of the Male Choir of St. Petersburg's CD's. I forgot which one (it is in my car right now). But the female choir was not on tour with them. I saw the Male Choir in West Palm Beach, FL (their first stop in the U.S.) several months ago, and they were amazing.
There is definitely low G's here. It is necessary to the chord progression. Since the key is D minor, the G would be a 4 of the key, thus making is a very necessary predominant chord. You should try standing next to one of these basses, they will rumble your head, it is amazing!
Des voix uniques, une perfection et une solemnité qui nous plongent au plus profond de la foi orthodoxe.Pavel Grigorievich Chesnokov était vraiment un compositeur de génie. Un enregistrement impréssionnant.
The music of the Russian Orthodox church is the most inspirational, stirring and soulful music that I have ever heard. This ageless, inspirational sound needs to be shared with all.
Yes indeed. I actually just recently received the CD this is taken from. It is two selections from Pavel Chenokov's funeral service. The CD is one 55 minute track though. 3:00 onwards in this video is the end of the recording. The beginning is taken from somewhere else.
In 8th grade, the first year I did chorus, I sung bass 2. Of course because it was middle school, it didn't go especially low, but I was able to sing a G2. When I got to high school, I sung bass 1, or baritone. I still couldn't hit anything below G2, but my range increased because I was now singing higher parts so I expanded that part of my range. This year I was moved down to Bass 2 again, and I couldn't go below a G. But, from singing low so much, I can now go down to about an E flat.
such empathy in those notes,I havent the faintest what they're singing..from 3:00 on for me it's such..gah..how can it be described in mere words. Only this side of heaven can we hear these kind of sonorous wonders.
I just saw these guys in Palm Beach, FL on Wednesday night (Feb. 26, 2009). It was amazing. Does anyone want the set list? We actually got to meet the director. It was an amazing show!
Very powerful bass-profondo, i've been lucky enough to see this choir live in Saint-Petersburg. For anyone interested they do concerts every monday and friday during the summer, and will be touring the eastern united states this spring. You can go to amaDOTbz to get info. If your curious his solo remains mostly on D2, and at the end steps up to E2, before going down to A1, and then returns to D2. As for other male singers, don't fret, our voices don't settle until the late 20's at least.
Thanks for your comment, If there is anything else you would like to ask th econductor he is staying at my house till Monday Morning. Glad you liked the show
All - I just got the CD of the full version of this piece - go to Musica Rusica, do a search for "Afanasiev" and you will find 4 CDs (I got all 4), this one is "Funeral Service." A LOT of Pasiukov chanting, quite a bit of the counter tenor (Vasily Timonin) who has such a great ringing quality to his voice - RUclips sound quality being just enough to make you want more...these titles may be available from sellers on Amazon also...now also question the date on this clip, anytime between '97-'04...
Listen to Serge Jaroff`s Don Cossacks on RUclips. They sing the "Our Father" plain chant. The low bass sings on a low Bb throughout the entire prayer. This was recorded in 1930 with one microphone.
the solo bass is sung by Pasiukov, who is a well known basso profondo. He goes really low (if we consider the fact that the profondos in these russian choirs sing all the way down to G1 in some music pieces- and I'm sure he goes down with them). But as Pavelkostov once said- it doesn't really matter how low they go... You must admire those men simply because of their passionate singing.Incredible, what a man can do with his voice...people often don't realize what a great instrument that is.
I was refering to Nightingales of Siberia. On their video EricAmada states that they will come to North America in Fall 2009. So my question is still open. For Male Choir I attend (with some friends) at Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts (NY). My friends didn't expect so high level and they were amazed by the performance. On "folk CD" there are some extra tracks but it's mixed choirs though.
I heard it too - it is as if on that one note, his voice produces a chord. It probably stems from the angle of his head with regard to his neck - this has happened to me too.
Funeral Service (Panikhida) for a male choir op. 39-a by Pavel Chesnokov, you can find it on musica russica dot com. I attempted to put this link up before and I was stopped =(.
I agree with Sprautbirger. Be careful not to label yourself so early. It's not throat singing, it's easy and relaxed and natural singing. You have great enthusiasm... great singing is achieved through relaxation and letting go; never strength :) good luck
Is it? I thought they looked similar but I couldn't tell since this shot of him is head-on. I love how he is barely opening his mouth and seemingly putting little effort into projecting that sound of his...what an instrument. Wish I could figure his name though.
Vladimir Pasuikov is in my opinion the most impressive choral basso profondo I´ve ever heard. That 100% modal low A1 was just amazing...and his massive lion-like voice is very pleasant.
He sang G1 earlier A :D listen closely
Deeply moving and sanctity rendered In perfection and beauty
Душа моя улетела на небо от этого произведения❤
Every time I listen to this it sends chills down my spine, the solemnity is overwhelming. Russian choirs are the best in the world.
And also Russian choral composers.
There is a very wide spectrum of harmonics within the sound - not just the fundamental pitches, but the associated harmonics heard on individul voices, which mkes it an incredibly rich, warm and satisfying sound. It is ful of soul.
Beautiful, truly a gift from God, thank you for lifting my spirits
Pavel Chesnokov is a choral genius.
Beautiful, basso profundo amazing voice.
my right ear is jealous...
Change the sides
Mine too!
The director's cutoff at 7:13 was sweet! lol...just a gentle twinkle of the fingers...gotta love that.
This is the best male choir.
These are voices! The great Vladimir Pasyukov is really impressive as a basso profundo, and the solo tenor sounds quite surptising too.
such a serious basso triumph starting at 3:00 and then the magnificent "ascending to heaven" choir immediately thereafter! Amazing stuff.
This a piece that may be sung at a funeral.
I had this song sang at my dad's funeral. Magnificent👍
I saw them in St. Petersburg in 2004. Their Debut cd on EMI is awesome (recommended for everyone), but to hear them live.... that is something completely different! WOW!! Words can describe.
I get chills everytime I listen to this. Straight up beautiful.
Vladimir é o melhor

I have been listening for hours. This is so incredibly moving, the voices, the setting. Did someone mention this must be a glimpse of heaven?
3:41-5:28 is sublime, coming out of Vlad's solo, their voices and shifts in key get more dynamic and layered with every second. I'm glad I have no idea what they're singing,it allows me to have more of an emotional connection to the music on its own merit.

Wow, I have never heard such amazing basses. That is truly incredible.
this is priceless ... i fell like in another place

beautiful beyond words - feel it resonating with the soul

What kind of fool could dislike this song? It's a shame some permit themselves to let a negative hold on this video...
wonderful music

It's great to see a video like this. There is far too little of it to be found on the internet, as far as I'm concerned. I'm looking at the concert schedule of this choir and hope to be able to schedule a chance to hear them live. Truly superb.

that bass was incredible and then from 4:12 all the way to end just made my day.
Awesome! Thanks for the post.
Wonderful performance!
The last minute of the song is just incredible, sublime
No doubt about it, the greatest mens choir I have ever heard. Unbelievable!
Pavel Chesnokov is the best choir composer, he composed the most beautiful chants i want to make a choir and sing his composotions
The harmonies from 3:45 forward.......exquisite and moving!!
Wonderful, especially the bass (of course!)

I agree! Those deep, dark tones gave me chills!!
The music of the Russian Orthodox church is the most
inspirational, stirring and soulful music that I have ever heard. This ageless, inspirational sound needs to be shared with all.
My gosh, these guys have some sick bass singers.

I feel so much deep anger and sorrow in this peace of heaven.
"Our time is yet to come..."
Здорова, очень впечатлило
Nothing beats choir song...This song makes me cry. I dont now what it is but its like some sort of sadness over Russia. Beautiful song...
A funeral prayer is what it is.
Thanks for the translation!!!
Simon
Ahoj moc nádherné..sláva Petrohradu a celému Rusku až na věky věku AMEN
thank you!!

this raises every hair on my body. i suspect it is not about man and his busy doings, but what is beautiful and right.
I just saw these guys in Palm Beach, FL on Wednesday night (Feb. 26, 2009). It was amazing. Does anyone want the set list? We actually got to meet the director. It was an amazing show!

Помилуй мя, Господи
anyone else only have this playing on the left channel? wish I could hear it in stereo :(
You don't hear the G1 at 1:34 and again at 2:10-11? Right after both of those G's--he's blasting low A's as well...
Thanks for your comment, If there is anything else you would like to ask th econductor he is staying at my house till Monday Morning. Glad you liked the show

На самом деле этот хор дает концерты каждый понедельник и пятницу в петропавлоской крепости! Если сможете, приходите!
I love the open 5th at 5;18
The lowest notes in this are amazing. Rumbles my soul.
The incredible power of the late Vladimir Pasjukov.

1:09 - 3:00. There no such words in any language to describe that. Amazing.
@gudpeder i think this would have be an appropriate chant to be sung at his funeral. Thank God we can record treasures like this.
unbeleavable
As far as I can tell it's Russian - the basso profundo enunciates very clearly and I could understand every word.
I wish so badly I had found out about these guys a month or two earlier. I could have possibly made it to one of those shows. :(((((
I was refering to Nightingales of Siberia. On their video EricAmada states that they will come to North America in Fall 2009. So my question is still open.
