*The two units I purchased work great. **Fastly.Cool** and air purifier perfectly this machine The filters are definitely collecting dust! I contacted Levoit directly for a minor issue, and received exceptional customer service!*
I love it when people keep explanations simple, clear and complete at the same time. I'm very thankful!
The second best use for a carbon filter is removing the smoke smell from burning your product! Nothing will compare! Cheap easy setup is a 4” combination fan, ducting and filter for about $110.00 on Amazon. Put aside the ducting and set the fan directly on the filter in a corner of any room and adjust the fan speed by knob. 15 minutes after smoking no one can tell. Period! 🏹
im gonna try this then, my dad smokes at home (cigs) and i want a cheap reliable method for that. ill look more into it
What do you mean"...set the fan directly on the filter..."?
@@titsup4u place the filter on a table or floor in room, then set fan on top sucking in through carbon filter and blowing straight out the top.
@@robinhoodgrowers8076 I have had 3 carbon filters just laying around for 3 years after my last grow that I tore down. I used each filter for maybe 3-4 months. Do they have a shelf life?
@@SlayerWezz they last quite awhile and based on your use, should be fine. Peace
They work just fine as a blow through filter. You can scrub the air in either direction. You can also use a inlet filter (non-carbon) in this situation to protect the fan from gunk.
Agreed 100% either way works perfectly fine people!
They do scrub both ways, by why would you want to fork out for an inlet filter in addition to your C-filter. especially true if you running a larger room, you will need a descent size -carbon filter and buying the same flow sized inlet filter would be pointlessly expensive. Run it before your exhaust
A leg from a pair of nylons duct taped to you ducting cost less than a coffee. It's not as if you filtering down to 100 micron before the fan, you just don't want any larger things to go through you fan.
@@darinhenningsgard8833 Came to say the exact same thing! ;)
Very educational especially the way you explained it. First time growing indoors, so definitely will get carbon filter. Thank you
Hey Lex
I swear by a bag of Kingsford BBQ charcoal. 1 bag last over 1 year 3 to 4 indoor grows. When finished i call the neighborhood over for a really chicken and beef rib bbq party and use the used bbq charcoal. Saving big money.
hmmm this is interesting; 3-4 years of straight flowering time or 3-4 years of straight grow time or 3-4 years of using it occasionally?...also if anyone else would like to chime in to an experience like this?
@@LexBlazer He says one year, containing 3-4 grows.
Lex, I believe I've discovered a breakthrough and would be willing to reveal it to you first as I like your channel, but not publicly. If you're interested please advise on how to contact you personally.
@Jimmy Mels, interest on your comment. What do u do with the bag of charcoal?
Sounds interesting....🤔
Lex Blazer I would think aquarium charcoal pellets would be more appropriate
Always a pleasure lex. Another well informed video.
Thanks lex good timing I just got two 4” set ups should have got two six but I made mistakes. 5x5 grow seems to be helping
I bought a 6 inch can filter abought 8 years ago an still using today nobody smells anything best investment yet
I'm guessing that's intermittent & light use for 8 years though...
I got one six inch with a 2 year warranty on it. Still neutralizes odors very well and I've been using it for over a year now. Mind you I take roughly a month between crops. My tent is 4.3x4.3 hoping this filter lasts a bit longer during this virus crap.
Have you had to clean the prefilter yet ? From my experience bytime you clean the prefilter twice its time to replace the filter as the filter gets clogged cfm decreases
@@Air-vf6cn well I have cleaned it once. It's over a year old but has had 1-2 month's rest between runs of like 3-4 I believe. I looked at it last night and it's getting to where yes it needs another wash. So after this run I'm either gonna grab a new filter or recharge the one I got. I just rechecked the warranty it was 2.5 years. Thanks for the tip btw.
why donr we have them in the homes like not even growing... so every rooms clean?
Perfect timing again lex
ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO ON SOME IMPORTANT EQUIPMENT
Clear, concise and to the point 👌🏽🙂
As usual lex puts out a decent video about some educational information that it's very important for the beginner growers. I think sometimes I'll turn it off just to stink up my house!!! #goodvibes
I would love for you to touch on possible drawbacks of using an oversized filter like that very 6inch size used in a 2x2 or 3x3 ;-)
hope there's not many..am awaiting a 6" for a 3x3
You’re a smart guy so I wanted to see if you could help. My carbon filter leaked tiny specs into a couple plants of mine and I was wondering what should I do?
Growing indoors for 4 years " now I only grow outdoors " I found that carbon filters were pointless because the second you open the grow tent the entire house would fill with the most intense smell of weed and would basically last throughout the grow. One time I had my house opened up airing it out and a couple commented while jogging by ( Smells Good ) But I only grow outside now and the whole neighborhood smells like pot for a month or two. Luckily all my neighbors are cool, plus it's legal now.
jus4funtim still illegal on the rest of the world tho
@@alkymistendenmark My point is, don't be fooled thinking that if you use a carbon filter no one will know that you're growing pot.
Then dont open the tent up so often lol and in my opinion 10 min of smell is better than 70days straight 24hrs a day right ?
@@Air-vf6cn Obviously you haven't grown any weed indoors. Opening a tent for ten minutes, "and you can't water 4 or 5 plants that fast" will fill the entire room with the strong smell of pot, and it doesn't go away for hours and it WILL slowly permeate your entire house. During the veg stage it's not a problem but once flowing starts all bets are off , unless you can create an air lock room and take off your clothes before you exit the room anyone entering your house will know you're going pot.
I have a new carbon filter from 5 years ago, is it still good? Great video
Don’t see why it shouldn’t be. Carbon won’t have clogged together if it was stored dry.
Hey man can you do a story on the different types on concentrates? From hash to keif to shatter to different oils and butters?
@stealthballer You can smoke kief cant you? WTF you call it? And I know cannabis originally started in Asian and was brought to Europe through the 'silk road'... I know that.. ? Where do you say cannabis originates ?
@stealthballer And OBVIOUSLY "keif" falls off the plant when you produce HASH or GRIND your bud..you obviously know NOTHING about hash production or cannabis stop trying to impress your dad by replying on youtube comments when you are clearly not educated yourself..
@stealthballer WOW, just looking at your music history im pretty sure your the only one making us weed stoners look bad.. You ever watched any cannabis related films or music? No, just you live in your 12th century church LMAO
Could you replace the activated charcoal inside the filter once its no good anymore
0:45 "95 pertzent"
But the hepa filter can also filter more than just gaseous like the carbon does.
Carbon is great for gas but hepa may be better at particulates right ?
Why the inline filters are so expensive? Those filters gives more possibilities like throwing all outside the tent and wenting directly to the ventilation in home.
Please go into how they act on humidity. I learned the hard way. Good Vid.
got a whole paragraph on it coming in 102/103, no worries
Hey Lex! Thanks for the Infos it was very well explained. Did you have any experience with ozone generators to get rid of the smell? Greetings from Brazil!
Hello Lex it going? I had a question for you. The reason I'm asking you is because I value your opinion and no with your experience you would know what to . I do not have much room in my 2 by 2 tent and was wondering if I could put the inline fan on the outside of the tent ducting it into the tent and a separate duct that will let air exhaust out of tent. BTW I'm not going to use a carbon filter. Would this be sufficient? If not what would you recommend? I look forward to hearing from you. Please keep making your excellently informative videos. I'm a Noob and I'm learning so much from you.
As always amazingly said! Thanks for all you do!
Talk about the cheapest aeroponic build for beginners Fogponics etc.
They can be used with the extraction fan blowing air through them
I was about to say that as well. I grow one plant at a time in a 2.5 x 2.5 x 5 foot tent. It fills that grow space, no room for the filter. My 3rd harvest is hanging as I write this and the filter is still going strong. All ducting is outside the tent with fan pushing though the filter. While it may not be ideal, I've had no issues.
@@sunkyman1024 even with carbon filter with low humidity and working full time you can catch a whiff
I clicked on this looking for things to reference for my school project
hi does ozone will effect the plant?
i think it does. its killing everything
Very good video, only thing its the first time ive heard they can’t be used in both directions, even the actual filter days it can be used in both directions but to used a prefilter inside the tent cause of obvious reasons
How can I use this for an alternative for kitchen cooking odors? Can I essentially add a CO2 filter on the intake and another CO2 filter in the exhaust?
I just hate how difficult they try to make it to replace the carbon. It is so wasteful to replace the entire filter, metal and all. Does anyone know of any that make it easy to swap the activated carbon?
Drill a hole in it. Shake out the old carbon, refill and plug to the hole.
Can these be used in the other direction? I.e. could I not fit a fan to blow into the exhaust outlet and get the same effect? I really don't wanna have to build boxes...
Why you can't put the filter outside ?
Can these be dunked in tap water, distilled or filtered to be washed washed I’m guessing it’s best to use the purest water so the carbon is not clogged with impurities within the water?
I built a charcoal filter out of charcoal granules and hepa filter. The first night I put my formaldehyde meter in front of the air outlet and the reading was lower than the surrounding air, which showed it was working. The third day , however, the reading is higher. I'm dumbfounded. There is a pound of charcoal granules and the room doesn't have huge amount of formaldehyde. I doubt the charcoal are saturated. I know charcoal can adsorb and also can release whatever it adsorb. So are we looking for a filter that can adsorb more than it releases? Will it help if I turn the charcoal granules so that the adsorption can happen more evenly?
My friend says that’s the carbon filter CLEANS the air but how could that be true unless it’s put outside of the of the tent and goes through the filter before the tent vent
Great video..just a quick question. What percent of smell does the carbon filter clean before being exausted
Thanks for the info bro lex 👌🌲
AMZING vid lex i love it
Wouldn't wanna be the company that sent that other electric filter🤣🤣
Can someone please explain to me when your smell goes through the filer does it eliminate the smell that comes out of the ducting???
where can i find the pre filter
Very informative thank you
Kool info lex man but im usin only cause i grow outside mainly dealin with the high end heat tho but yha good info bro👍🏽👌🏽👊🏽
Do carbon filters keep the co2 built up in the tent?
I leave the filter on when drying my stuff… but I’ve been told to turn it off. Not sure which is the correct thing to do, on or off?
a small ozone generator. i have one the size of a hockey puck that i use to sterilize tent and tools after harvest. i havent tried it for drying but thought about it.
What is that one you have in your video wrapped with?
So why are you not supposed to wash the prefilter that goes over carbon filter
I heard that a full carbon filter's weight is about 20% increased...
no carbon filter can help in full flowering for a super smelly strain... and there is a high chance duct pipe has micro holes in it if you put it on exhaust...both nyc diesel auto and original glue auto were smelling out of my grow tent in 4 weeks of flowering... i guess ita better to leave it inside to scrubb and use ona gel outside or something
Awesome video, I'm on the fence about a vent and fan after needing to relocate my setup for a few days. Damn home insurance inspectors. Any tips or plans to do a video on carbon prefilter mantainence? Or steps to improve the life of the filter. My friend made a big mistake using a lot of powdered nutrients in his tent, and his pre filter got CAKED in dust from it after a few months.
Gaia green does not mix with water it's meant to be added dry. Once he realized the issue he just stopped feeding in the tent. I do the same thing, take my plants out of the closet before feeding, saves the dust on my lights and shit
@@dropinbiking92 guia greens says to work their powder nutrients into the topsoil and then slowly water the nutrients into the medium if directions were followed the nutrients will be in the soil? I dont see how powder nutrients is getting into your carbon filter...? Are they sure its not actual room dust I suggest using a hepa intake filter to help the carbon filter last longer plus it would tell you if its indeed room dust or dust from your powder nutrients . Wish y'all the best of luck hope this helps ....
It's super super fine powder, once you disturb or open the container it will drift around, once you take a spoonful out and sprinkle it on your plant the dust gets around.
great vid once again man. can you review the fsgtek f600 budget light.
lol if they send me one, sure! tell them about me ;)
@@LexBlazer np man will be glad to tell them dont know if they will im just a customer
Not ALL carbon filters are designed to only pull air into it. The brand that I use not only works pushing or pulling, it also has reversible flanges to get more life out of it. I modify my prefilter, which normally goes on outside, to fit on the inside which catches dust etc. I exhaust right back into my room because I run a closed loop climate controlled system. There are ABSOLUTELY no smells and my filters last...
If you’ve never used an air filter these are great. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_dppjvjF8BYEmPSDTcgCUdRsgWYLXNHN I ended up with three after starting out with one. The noise level depends on the 1-3 settings with how hard you want the machine to work. You can also upgrade the filters and get one better for pet hair and smells which is a must have in my home. I noticed the air seemed lighter and easier to breathe when running the machine for the first time. Works great every time. Highly recommended!
im a bit confused what size carbon filter would i need for a 120x120x200 tent im using a 600w led and do i need to cover the tents air vents and buy an intake fan if want to hide odor or will i be safe forgetting about the intake fan and just leaving the air vents uncovered as long as i have a carbon filter in the tent i no its probably a dumb question but im really confused id be thankfull for any advice

Just starting out
Can I use the same active carbon used in water filters in order to reuse an old carbon filter that I've got while ago?
Just purchase a new carbon filter they are cheap enough these days
Does a carbon filter remove allergies?
Only in the close proximity around it. You are better off steam cleaning your bed, upholstery etc
good info Lex, tx
I have one and if i run my fingers into the hole my fingers are black from the carbon and theres some little pieces that fell out in de plastic packaging, is this normal or did i recieve a broken one?
Ask the people that made it you fuck head
Try White Vinegar as odour control. The cleaning variety, not condiment. Works a fucking treat and costs pennies......
how much white vinegar do you use (and how precisely?) in say a 100 square foot space? And doesn't it make everything smell like vinegar?
Nice like everytime
Would this work to filter out cigar smoke?
Can’t see why not
soooo ik its really risky, but could i do this in my house without my mom finding out about my plants?
Sure. If u can fit it in a closet that sheu will never ever open. There's no sound or smell. But it will cost u tho
Glad to see you, I was afraid the corona got you!
Ah yes, positively charged charcoal 🤣
Hey lex, sup man? I love your videos!
I have a few leaves that suffered from too much nitrogen in the beginning of flower (only like half a dozen of them, all the rest are perfectly healthy)
Im now at day 62 of flowering. Do you think I should remove those hooked leaves that suffered from excess of nitrogen?
THanks man!
My policy is to remove any fanleaf that's >50% dead, wheatever the cause.
@@LexBlazer Thanks for the reply man. Just to confirm, would you consider the fan leaves that looks like "Hooks" bended downwards because of the excess of nitrogen i mentioned to be a a 50% dead leaf ? If so, I will surely remove them.
Thanks man!
Day 62 of flower time to flush buddy leave the your toxified leafs its to late in the game to worrie about anything other than getting flushed and properly dried and cured
@@Air-vf6cn Thanks man!
What about when they get plugged up with dust and cause restriction and negative pressure in your tent ?
You DO need to maintain your pre-filter; it's actually the only real maintenance to be done on these filters...more on that in the next episode.
You should have negative pressure in your tent.
@@tombryant4518 my tent is sucking in do to filter clog every two weeks so I just spray it down with warm water and it returns back to normal
Vince g No, your tent walls are sucking in because your fan is creating a vacuum. It’s moving more air out of the tent than what is able to flow back into it. Open some vents to allow more air flow into the tent. You’re supposed to exchange all the air once a minute anyway, and a plugged filter won’t do that, never mind creating any negative pressure in the tent. You’re actually probably plugging the filter when you spray it with water, and it slowly starts working again (creating a vacuum in the tent) then you spray it again
Vince g You want negative pressure in the tent to ensure the odours go out through the filter. Otherwise the smells would permeate through whatever crevices they could fit through, and stink up the room, house, or whatever. Gorilla grow tents actually have kits you can buy that reinforce the tent walls so they don’t get sucked in and touch the plants. Just trying to help you out man, not being condescending at all. Let’s figure out what’s going on in there man!

How much does it cost? I don't find most strains stink. If I had old MH HPS light cabinets a fan might be okay?? Could i hook the filter to the lights? Who cares about stink?
how much it costs is in the video :) lol if you knew how bad the stink was, you'd probably care. Or not, depends how big your property is.
Neighbors with same air conditioner ducting, also obviously not fully legal areas, some even in colorado require this filter by law or you can be fined for public nuisance, sounds and also smell is in that law
@@dertythegrower
i personally don't find the smell a nuisance unlike some of the factories dotted around the world that spew out proper pungent pongs!
Not sure what strains you mean, every strain I've ever seen in flower will overpower not only your house but most of a decent sized yard with an unmistakable odor, unless carbon filters are used. I love the smell myself, but some neighbors and all law enforcement absolutely HATE the smell. Anyone who comes to your door , for whatever reason will instantly know what's up. Legal states might not be a problem, other States could be BIG problem.

Little known fact: a 4" x 14" carbon filter strapped to your face will help guard against Coronavirus. It may not be 100% effective but hey, every little bit helps.
just here to say a carbon filter works both ways lol. kind of silly to think it only works one way. Although one way could be considered better better over the other but its purely situational. I too have grown weed for a very long time and ive always done it 1 in and 1 out, and to be honest its not enough. As silly as a carbon filter working only one way sounds, it be nice if the carbon filter had some sort of way to release scent to cover escaping smells.
