He’s was helpful to me when I was at Leica Wetzlar this past Summer. After I told him about the Leica kit I already had, he suggested I look carefully at a pre-owned APO-Macro-Elmarit-R 100 mm f/2.8 in their Classic Store. At 950 Euros, it was a bargain.
What a marvel of engineering and manufacturing. The price is very high but I don't see how anyone will be able to match this lens in size and performance. The 0.3m close focus distance is just the cherry on top.
A masterpiece of a lens. When paired with the Leica M11-P camera, this lens truly shines. The M11-P, known for its exquisite craftsmanship, iconic design, and state-of-the-art technology, complements the 35mm APO-Summicron perfectly. The M11-P's 60-megapixel full-frame sensor takes full advantage of the lens's resolving power, delivering images with incredible detail and dynamic range. This combination allows photographers to capture scenes with a depth and clarity that rivals medium format systems, but in a much more compact and elegant package.
Peter Karbe, is simply the best! All his lens calculations are legendary and no one represents Leica in heart and soul like Peter does. Always very pleasant is the modesty for one of the living grandmasters of optics design and calculation!
Peter is a treasure; likely the greatest lens man ever. With his high standards and unmatched expertise, tell me, where does Peter buy the lenses for his own eyeglasses - that’s where I must go!!
Congrats to Leica for another wonderful lens. We can finally shoot closer without an adapter or macro lens! Hope this becomes the new standard for M lens.
I can't afford such a master piece unfortunately. Especially with no live view on my M262 I should buy an other M camera too ! But that is exactly the kind of lens that could make me change my 28 + 50mm combo for a single 35mm. I'm very impressed. Hats off to Peter's team.
Again a masterpiece from Leica, but it's not for mine type of photography. I've a Summilux 28 and 50 mm. They are perfect for my daily work. Congrax to the new baby in the family.
I have both the Summilux-M 28 and 50 (w/close-focusing) and they are terrific. However, if I could only have one lens, it’d be this APO-Summicron- M 35. It was very expensive, but its performance is unbelievable.
Technically nearly perfect and finally a modern M lens with close focus distance option useful with LiveView or EVF. But you have to pay the same as for a brand new M10-R...
The edges of the lens hood is easily scratched by the metallic lens cap. Even the sample shown in this video is scratched 6:20. A replacement lens hood (the rectangular hood, not the cap which is already available) is still not available for purchase. Please allow customers to buy replacement hoods, and please also consider to manufacture a plastic hood cap. Thank you.
Why did he say this is the 3rd APO Summicron within the Leica Line? Isn’t it the 4th? After 90 APO, 75 APO, AND 50 APO? Are one of those not considered true APO?
Once again, just as with the introduction of the (300 Gram) 50mm APO-M Summicron, other manufactures (including the large SL version), required a much more complex and therefore BULKY optic (the 1,030 Gram Zeiss Otus) in order to ATTEMPT to match the performance of these close-to-unbelievable tiny jewel M lenses...
Not to disrespect all the knowledge and effort put into this lens, but the vignetting is tremendous wide open. I am not sure why then the recommendation to shoot it at its largest aperture. Yes, vignetting works sometimes, but this lens... :(
I love Peter, he is so humble, passionate, and, represents the soul of Leica.
Alas, to be able to connect with this ' soul ', one must have very deep pockets.
@@lensman5762 or sell your soul lol

Perfect. One Video in englisch and one in german. That the way it should be. Thanks for that,
Many greets, Carsten Villa Petersberg
So müsste es sein
Pre order placed... Selling off so much unused stuff to fund the purchase. I am blown away by this lens.
0.3m focus is a game changing to me personally. KUDOS to you guys for making it a possibility.
Peter is a treasure; likely the greatest lens man ever. With his high standards and unmatched expertise, tell me, where does Peter buy the lenses for his own eyeglasses - that’s where I must go!!
A marvelous lens, computed, designed and crafted by marvelous people ❣️
Congrats to Leica for another wonderful lens. We can finally shoot closer without an adapter or macro lens! Hope this becomes the new standard for M lens.
I just used the summicron at f2 on the M11 and M6 and can say, Bob Lebeck would have loved it, Peter!

Great! I wish the 50 APO M had close focusing distance capability as well.
Close focusing between 30 - 70 cm is using live-view or visoflex not rangefinder keep that in mind
Leica keeps raising the bar!
Amazing macro lens! Well done, Leica!
Cool. Finally a true smaller brother of the 35mm f/1.4 11663. Lemme talk to the store and see if I can pre-order one

I want it in silver for my M10 so bad! What an amazing lens…
Watched the whole other video in German before this, not understanding a word. 😂 Now this. Anyways, this lens is a dream.
It's been a year-and-a-half since this video was released and the lens is still not available. I'm genuinely interested in it.😞
There were three lenses on the table, does anyone know whether the other m mount lens was the current Summicron or the Summilux FLE?
Greetings, when will this phenomenal lens be in stores? Please give me some idea. Thank you,
Sweet! I’ll get one of these bad boys one day..
I hope I get there one day.
The video is about the Leica lens but I am just looking at his Pelikan.
Are there any planned special editions of the Apo-Summicron 35mm like the Apo-Summicron 50mm?
Any update on when this will be shipping to the USA? Thank you!
A dream lens for me 🙂

Are the colours / tonal / contrast a lot better on new 35 Summilux or 35 Apo?

Awesome!!! Y’all better not make an APO M 28mm as well cos then I’ll be broke af
Ha ha true!

Super!
You should make glass for monochom sensors. Something that will push black and white into orbit! Specially for monochrom sensors.
WOW!
Now I can take a photo of my kitty with M body :)
“Please use this lens wide open as much as possible.”
How will close focus work on a film body like an MP?
Guesstimation I’d say 😉
1 ft. = 30 cm.
At last!
I wonder if 95% of the people who buy this lens do justice to it.
The price tag is crazy for such a F2 lens.
Ambulance or Elements?
just fyi the price of this lens is two yearly wages of my family of three

Me want!
...another superb, well-computed, razor sharp and *sterile* Leica lens. Yippee.
Best yet. Great for people who need this type of lens
...lovely, and it'so cheap, only 3,000.00 euros !
it's more than 6000
@@riccardotesta8132 gosh even cheaper !
Please let this lens cost less then 6k
No such luck. Closer to $8000.
To whom is Leica talking to? Certainly not to photographers.
Oh no actually it’s a beautiful lens to shoot. Stunning results too.
