The Flame of the West

  • In The Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien bestowed the name ‘Anduril’ on the sword of Aragorn in his fight against darkness and evil. ‘Anduril,’ wrote Tolkien, can be translated from Elvish as ‘The Flame of the West.’ It’s no coincidence that a new, start-up defense company also calls itself Anduril; but as Bill points out, the real Flame of the West is much deeper and more profound than mere weaponry.

A young doctor in Boston ,Joseph Warren ,was the man who sent Paul Revere on his ride. He was seeking to rally his countrymen in defense of certain principles …” you are to decide the question on which rest the happiness and liberty of millions yet unborn. Act worthy of yourselves “.

Bill values Classic Trek and Classic Twilight Zone. I love that man.
On the opening showcasing Anduril.....for a few moments there I thought Bill was starting one of those sponsored ads so many are keen on putting in their videos and my first thought was... "ATF is NOT going to like this" 😉
(My second thought was... where can I get one. Because mosquitoes. And flies. Termites. Roaches. God help me, Palo Verde Prehistoric Monster Beetles. Can you imagine having a fleet of mini boxed missles programmed to target roaches and beetles? 😍

Agree- we have had international students a few years and we homeschooled for 30, and I just loved to understand each ones interests. The students from all over just did studies and then went out for fun. My own kids? It was dangerous to leave to shop and not enough assignments, as you would not know what had been nuked (did you know dirty socks begin to burn faster than clean socks?) or created. As smart as the lovely chinese girl was, she had no capacity to understand when I asked about the 1 child policy and pointed out how fast population goes down. The left does not WANT much besides chaos

Government will kill it through taxation. All Western governments are moving towards a model where everyone gives their wealth to the government through taxation and then the government gives it back to them minus what is lost by bureaucratic waste and out right theft. You reach the point where the risks do not justify the rewards because the government takes the reward.

Each time it is like a breath of fresh air. I am completely at loss why these three gentlemen are not only getting much more attention but also top positions - with salaries to match - in any truly patriotic and capable (downsized, thank you) Government. Bravo, mr. Whittle and friends. You always make my day, week, and month.

It's biblical take the log out of your eye before you look to take the splinter out of your brother's eye. Which means when your own self is looked after with purpose, you will be able to join society to work with other individuals all looking first for their own needs and desires to make the world better.
Ayn Rand in Atlas Shrugged summed it up well too. John Gault only concerned himself, but by doing so he had to work with others to continue making his personal future and desires plausible. In all his surface selfishness, Gault ultimately was selfless.
Socialism/Communism can never work on a large scale. On a intimate scale one can operate communistic, but once scaled up it crumbles on itself.
The USA especially post WWII has been the definitive example of this greatness, even with crappy politicians and self loathing media, professors and other talking heads.

"...and the reactor is powered by disagreement." Bravo!
I have long said that complaining is _incredibly_ American. So much so that it's written into our constitution! Complaint is a core facet of invention, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Americans complain in order to draw attention to a problem that they would offer money to have fixed, improved, innovated, simplified, competitive alternatives, regardless of whether the complaint is political or apolitical. Other nations don't complain like we do. Discouraged from open complaint, whether by decree or social dint, by being told to keep a stiff upper lip, or that it's above or below one's station, or that all things are perfect and there can be no improvement, innovation is stifled; stillborn. As I understand it, science (observation, analysis, documentation, compartmentation, et al.) derives from a love of God and attempts to understand His works by taking things apart to reveal His essence. That interest may have evolved beyond love of God (hopefully not), but continues to drive us to seek the how and why of our ordered universe. It's no wonder that Americans have learned to harness that concept better than any other nation.
