The Flame of the West

- In The Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien bestowed the name ‘Anduril’ on the sword of Aragorn in his fight against darkness and evil. ‘Anduril,’ wrote Tolkien, can be translated from Elvish as ‘The Flame of the West.’ It’s no coincidence that a new, start-up defense company also calls itself Anduril; but as Bill points out, the real Flame of the West is much deeper and more profound than mere weaponry.

Remind me again what President Eisenhower said about beware of the military industrial complex….
Industrial media complex is now in the TO&E.
A young doctor in Boston ,Joseph Warren ,was the man who sent Paul Revere on his ride. He was seeking to rally his countrymen in defense of certain principles …” you are to decide the question on which rest the happiness and liberty of millions yet unborn. Act worthy of yourselves “.
That is a beautiful quote that I've never heard before... thank you for sharing that.
I’m scared for my children and grandchildren future.
What future?
That's my concern.
Agreed. Never thought my country would make me feel so grieved and fearful about something so simple as the state of our future 😮
It’s in our hands. We can change the course of history, person by person.
@LilyGazou absolutely true. And never give up, or comply.
Bill values Classic Trek and Classic Twilight Zone. I love that man.
On the opening showcasing Anduril.....for a few moments there I thought Bill was starting one of those sponsored ads so many are keen on putting in their videos and my first thought was... "ATF is NOT going to like this" 😉
(My second thought was... where can I get one. Because mosquitoes. And flies. Termites. Roaches. God help me, Palo Verde Prehistoric Monster Beetles. Can you imagine having a fleet of mini boxed missles programmed to target roaches and beetles? 😍
Agree- we have had international students a few years and we homeschooled for 30, and I just loved to understand each ones interests. The students from all over just did studies and then went out for fun. My own kids? It was dangerous to leave to shop and not enough assignments, as you would not know what had been nuked (did you know dirty socks begin to burn faster than clean socks?) or created. As smart as the lovely chinese girl was, she had no capacity to understand when I asked about the 1 child policy and pointed out how fast population goes down. The left does not WANT much besides chaos
I love the commentary from you three gentlemen. I always learn something, and this segment did not disappoint. I did not know about those drones in boxes and what they could do, or be recalled and go back to their box.
I could tell just from the title this was gonna be a Bill video.
It seems like "the government' wants to strangle the tinkerer spirit; and I don't think you can kill it that way. It will only die from complacency, not from external threat.
Government will kill it through taxation. All Western governments are moving towards a model where everyone gives their wealth to the government through taxation and then the government gives it back to them minus what is lost by bureaucratic waste and out right theft. You reach the point where the risks do not justify the rewards because the government takes the reward.
Oh, the SU doesn't lob dumb bombs. It lobs smart glide bombs that can fly up to 70 km and hit a house in the window.
not so sure BOING (formerly known as BOEING) can successfully do that any more...
Anduril alone was a mere heirloom unless wielded by the Rightful King
The bad haircuts are real in areospace!
Additional thought: the removal of “Duty, Honor, Country “ at West Point , to be replaced by “ the values of the United States Army “ Says so much . Who are these armaments for? Who do they serve. We the people are afraid.
The level of insight, understanding of science, technology, and passionate dedication to genuine progress as well as intelligent, open discourse of these three guys is just amazing. Each time it is like a breath of fresh air. I am completely at loss why these three gentlemen are not only getting much more attention but also top positions - with salaries to match - in any truly patriotic and capable (downsized, thank you) Government. Bravo, mr. Whittle and friends. You always make my day, week, and month.
My cousin is the captain of one of the ships that does rocket recovery in the Atlantic. I really need to talk to him.
As much as I love my Tolkien. This episode reminds me more of Jerry Pournelle's Falkenberg's Legion books and how he described the evolution of warfare - particularly including the near eradication of air power through the widespread use of man portable Anti- Air weaponry. Go tell the Spartans.
_If by my life or death I can protect you, I will, you have my sword_
😭
4:09 'Cept the torpedo thing was clearly in Sydney Harbour.
Probably the best example of this is SpaceX, a startup that upended the entire global launch industry.
People are not a meaningless cog in a machine. Free them to utilize their abilities and great things will happen. That little thing called meaning in one's life is the bonus 🍻 🇺🇲
It's biblical take the log out of your eye before you look to take the splinter out of your brother's eye. Which means when your own self is looked after with purpose, you will be able to join society to work with other individuals all looking first for their own needs and desires to make the world better.
Ayn Rand in Atlas Shrugged summed it up well too. John Gault only concerned himself, but by doing so he had to work with others to continue making his personal future and desires plausible. In all his surface selfishness, Gault ultimately was selfless.
Socialism/Communism can never work on a large scale. On a intimate scale one can operate communistic, but once scaled up it crumbles on itself.
The USA especially post WWII has been the definitive example of this greatness, even with crappy politicians and self loathing media, professors and other talking heads.
we died when we went from "valued employees" to "human capital"
The Su-34 was NEVER better than the F-15E, but I digress.
I'm currently working on a project with Anduril - the founder of the company is a total Tolkien geek.
"Men of the West! I bid you STAND!!"
Only in America where arrogance and commercials pass for reality.
Thank You Gents for your age and wisdom from a man your same age.
2 years ago I watched an 8 min video of a swarm of a 1000 little drones flying in the formation of a giant green dragon soaring over a city.
It was stupifyingly beautiful.
and yet, still there are people claiming they saw an extraterrestrial spaceship last month.
The bible had descriptions of UFOs, where were your drones then?
@Bill Whittle, When is "The Empire of Terror" going to be put into book form? I would buy that INSTANTLY!!!!!!!
"...and the reactor is powered by disagreement." Bravo!
I have long said that complaining is _incredibly_ American. So much so that it's written into our constitution! Complaint is a core facet of invention, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Americans complain in order to draw attention to a problem that they would offer money to have fixed, improved, innovated, simplified, competitive alternatives, regardless of whether the complaint is political or apolitical. Other nations don't complain like we do. Discouraged from open complaint, whether by decree or social dint, by being told to keep a stiff upper lip, or that it's above or below one's station, or that all things are perfect and there can be no improvement, innovation is stifled; stillborn. As I understand it, science (observation, analysis, documentation, compartmentation, et al.) derives from a love of God and attempts to understand His works by taking things apart to reveal His essence. That interest may have evolved beyond love of God (hopefully not), but continues to drive us to seek the how and why of our ordered universe. It's no wonder that Americans have learned to harness that concept better than any other nation.
The drone domination in Uky is the new state of warfare drones.it has all changed.
I have hope as long as there are men like you to inspire me. Thanks, Bill, Steve, and Joe. Just kidding, Scott. 😉
"The Crownless again shall be King" eh Bill?
Let's not kid ourselves. This stuff is designed specifically for billionaires who will be war lords after the collapse and SHTF. Lol
Get my scattergun, them drones are comin" back.
The reason for spreading out in the trenches has nothing to do with monetary expense. It’s BECAUSE of the drones, which can drop grenades right above the trenches. Spreading out reduces casualties.
China may produce more PhDs currently, but they are being educated in and with the education (if not at least in the wake) of western intellect, technology, etc.
Thanks, guys. I needed that.
IF you have not watched Empire Of Terror...Do So NOW! I thought knew about the USSR. I..WAS...WRONG!
'....with bad haircuts' ; I nearly sprayed the screen with coffee. Much older than you Bill I reckon you also fit bright-eyed brilliance dream crowd. Grey, but still a full head.
Bill, you need a rebreather-- you'll never go back to open-circuit SCUBA.
Only in America do you have punkin' chunkin' and jet powered outhouses.
Yep. An idiocracy.
@@MeanOldLady Maybe, but only Americans believe such things express their spirit of adventure. I celebrate it.
Yes, but will Anduril's weapons accept Glock mags?
No, shotguns fail dramatically, due to the attack speed of the drones...the gunner simply does not have TIME...
there was baby Jesus..and the three wise men came with Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh and they were these guys...huh?
you betcha!
JRR Tolkien HATED cars
Compared to horses, yes.
@@reekinronald6776 Bicycles are like horses but with wheels for legs.
Unfortunately, we also graduate more chinese engineers from american universities than we do americans.
Then how is the war machine going to move money if the toys are cheap? Its not about the tech or even the conflict. Its about who can profit on the sidelines. War has been permanently commercialized.
MAGA!!!!!
Trump isn't going to save you.
biden is sure saving you@@slappy8941
@slappy8941 will he close the border?
@@slappy8941 You think that an entire party of traitors with their tongues up Europe's ass will save you from yourselves?
You're saying all this like it's a good thing. All this new stuff is very good, for taking care of us. Defense. Haha. Have you ever seen terminator?
China graduates drones... Not the same
The lack of entrepreneurs and freedom to create, exactly! They have a good education but they don't have the same opportunity! I was trying to point that out on a live stream a few weeks ago, but failed to do it as eloquently!
They can steal designs and put them together, but they have a hard time getting them to work.
What disturbs me the most is , “what good is our arm forces when they aren’t designed to defend us ( the people and borders ) of the United States ? We the tax payers get poorer supporting the arms industry while our country plunges into poverty?
Yup that's American culture. Guys like to build stuff
Its a lot cheaper to just close the border.
🗽USA❤🤍💙
The US is dead. Idiocrats killed it.
