The Cherokees among some other tribes eventually took the path of assimilation because some believed that the only way to preserve their people was to take on European American culture and ways. That is why America refers to the Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek and Seminole as the "Five Civilized Tribes" because they were only viewed as a "civilized" people (somewhat) after adopting American ways and leaving off much of their own cultural ways. Prior to taking the path of assimilation, the Cherokees fought in battle. Many had sided with the British during the Revolutionary War.
Every Native tribe and tribal nation tried a multitude of ways to survive.

No, during battle feathers were not worn. And unlike the Plains Nations, our feathers were not earned through counting coup or battle, necessarily, but rather acts, or general dress.

This is the song recorded by British Officer Lieutenant Timberlake. To the best understanding, it is adlib for what the warriors would be doing in battle to the enemy. For arguments sake, the Cherokee are technically Iroquoian, but unique.

In a way, it is. Starting with taking their lands and traditional crops, following with giving the starving peoples supplies of white flour, lard, etc., and ending with most of the American people eating ultra-processed/junk food because real food is unaffordable or cannot be found in the neighborhood. Add to that, many native peoples have genetic adaptations to thrive in situations when food was periodically scarce, which means that now they are particularly vulnerable to obesity and diabetes.
So, now, many First Nations people look and are as healthy as any regular American.

Have a look at Cherokee Tribal council! It's mostly different people with white skin, principal chief isn't as lite as other cherokee, and cherokee know our ancestors are the sami from Siberia that are lite skinned, buffalo soldiers spent over 20 years massacring us natives and declared lands like Tulsa that was creek and Cherokee people's and others before it was some wall street, you probably think we love the government fry bread to right?
