    I know that this is many years behind the curve, but, the scene with Spike and Joyce sitting in the living room is one of my favorite scenes in any show.

      Season 2 is crazy to re-watch, especially given that speech. You don’t realize it’s important until you reach the end. At the beginning of the season, Angel was the good guy and Spike was the Big Bad. In the series finale, Buffy aligned with Spike to take down Angelus. Season 2 tricked us so hard.

      I had the luxury of growing up in the 90s but never watching BTVS. So when I finally did watch it, I knew AtS was a thing. I knew Angel would come back and I hated Bangel from the jump. It didn’t matter. Her killing him still got me. It’s still one of the most memorable moments of the show. You don’t have to like Angel or Bangel to feel for Buffy in this episode. My heart breaks for the Bangel shippers. 💔

      @@fadedneverland6091 When you manage to feel sorry for a character or a ship you don't like,you know the writers did something right somewhere.❣
      I can relate thinking of the very few times I felt sorry for Spike.(Well...actually I can _partially_ relate because the fact they managed to make me feel sorry for him _it's part of the problem I have with him as a character_ but..still...;-P)

      @@Nicamon Full disclosure, I’m a Spuffy shipper, but hey! To each their own. I totally empathize with the people who never forgave him for “Seeing Red.” Completely legitimate.
      But with me-and this is probably part of the difference between someone who watched the show when it was on and me who watched an episode of “Are You Afraid of The Dark?” called “The Tale of The Night Shift” and was so terrified of vampires after that I WAS. NOT. watching anything with the word “vampire” in it no matter what my un-traumatized friends said-the thing was that I actually really like Jenny Calendar. I was very upset that Angel killed her. I’ve watched several videos of people who watched it the time and said they were actually disappointed because apparently there was a trailer that said someone would die and it was some of the main characters but never even had Jenny on there. But I didn’t watch it at that time so I was like, “NOT JENNY! WHY?! She was just doing such a good job trying to get Giles to loosen up! And poor Giles! He left her on his bed! WHY?!”
      “Seeing Red” is a lot of people’s breaking point with Spike (although there are several episodes with him I could see being a breaking point, although they weren’t for me), “Passion” was my breaking point with Angel. I was totally for him dying…until it happened. And then I was somehow very sad, probably because I love Buffy a lot. That poor girl did not deserve that.

      @Nicamon 2 года назад

      @@fadedneverland6091 Now...that's a...bit of a complex discussion we have here...(sorry if I'll rant during the last part of it.🙏)
      "I totally empathize with the people who never forgave him for "Seeing Red"."My problem with Spike is not what he did in"Seeing Red"...quite the contrary,actually! I was"""happy"""to see him doing something like that.That way I was *FINALLY* not the only one who thought he was a piece of shit,but a lot of other people *FINALLY* realized that too!!!...Too bad the Spike fans/Spuffy shippers manage to STILL forgive him and excusing him and loving him *even* after that!!!🤬💢
      "I was very upset that Angel killed her."Angelus.Not Angel.And yes,I was and still am too.💔I loved Miss Calendar,she's probably *the* thing I will never forgive "Angel"for,just like I'll never forgive Regina Mills from"Once Upon a Time"for raping and killing Graham.💔
      Notice that I distinguish *very clearely* between Angel and Angelus. That's why I never really had a"breaking point"with ANGEL. I've hated ANGELUS since the very beginning...BUT HE'S *NOT* ANGEL! I never wanted Angelus to die...I wanted ANGEL to come back,it's different!!! I wish there's a way to give Angel his soul back in a PERMANENT way,so that Angelus can fuck off and never come back. I want *ANGELUS* to die,NOT *ANGEL!*
      Spike it's different.And the reason I hate him it's PRECISELY THAT:he doesn't make sense as a vampire!He has no soul but,since they put the chip in his head,he acts *just like any human being with a soul.* He helps Buffy,he cares for Buffy,he sacrifices for Buffy,he cares about Dawn,he lets Glory TORTURE HIM to prevent her from hurting BUFFY! If *this* is how a souless vampire behaves...WHAT'S THE POINT IN HAVING A SOUL IN THE 1ST PLACE?!?! I hate Spike *because he's a fucking walking plot hole!!!>O:-O IF the show took Spike's character development as a _chance_ to put the role of the Slayers in *serious* discussion and started to make Buffy feel no less guilty for killing vampires than Faith felt for killing humans I *_could_* have appreciated Spike and MAYBE even the Spuffy ship. *But not like this.* The way Spike was portraited in the series makes *NO FUCKING SENSE* there is *NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL* between Souless Spike and Souled Spike *SO* I can't stand him and SO I will *ALWAYS* prefer Angel.Not because he has a _better_ character development,but simply because his character and character development *is consistent with what he is and MAKES-SENSE.* (Plus,I think Angel is far more attractive than Spike,but that's another kind of issue!;-P I never found neither Oz nor Tara attractive and yet I ship them with Willow like CRAZY!!!💞💞)

    • @fadedneverland6091
      @fadedneverland6091 2 года назад +1

      @@Nicamon That’s actually a really great point about the Slayers. That definitely occurred to me too in regards to Spike. He’s clearly capable of doing good and we’ve also got Harmony, who didn’t seem to be capable of moral development before or after being turned, but who can at least stop killing if it is in her best interest. I haven’t read all the comics, but I have read a few and know that issue is at least mentioned, although I don’t recall there being a definitive conclusion as to Buffy’s role as the Slayer. It’s a very interesting question that I would like to have seen explored.
      With Spike, I do feel like his difference from Angel (but not all other vampires) was established clearly and very early. In “Surprise” (2x13) Drusilla and Spike bring forth The Judge. Once he is back, he immediately goes for them, saying, “You two stink of humanity.” When Spike pointed out that he was only here because of them, he burned Dalton, who was a vampire, yet “full of feeling…and he reads!” There are clearly some vampires who still have humanity. Angel didn’t.
      We also-a short time later in the series-clearly establish that who the person was impacts the vampire they become. Angel himself confirms this (in 3x16). Angel was a terrible person before being turned. He was angry and predatory. Spike was a lovesick poet who fixated on this one woman he didn’t really know and made finding love the answer to all his problems. Both of those negative states of mind impacted the vampires they became, but William was a better person than Liam, so more humanity carried over. Spike’s change post-soul was more subtle but it was definitely there. Pre-soul, I think he would have stopped killing if Buffy had wanted to be with him and asked him to. But that’s not a good enough reason. Post-soul, he didn’t want to hurt anyone because it was wrong. Pre-soul, he pushed Buffy to be with him multiple times, most horrifically in “Seeing Red”. Post-soul, he still loved her, but was content to just be her soldier and help her in the fight. There were differences, they are just more subtle since William was always in Spike, while Liam’s humanity was kind of lacking when he was human and it was easier for the demon to swallow it up.
      The fact that some humanity (or at least aspects of the dead human’s personality) does seem to carry over is definitely a moral conundrum that should have been explored in more depth, but if we’re not mad at Angel for murdering several people close to Buffy, torturing Giles and trying to destroy the world, why are we mad at Spike for his actions without a soul? Shouldn’t the same standards apply?
      But that’s just if you subscribe to that theory. I don’t. I don’t buy the “They’re two different characters!” argument because they said in the first episode that vampires are human-demon HYBRIDS and clearly establish that the person impacts the vampire. The show can’t establish that and expect me not to hold the vampire accountable for who he becomes. Both Angel and Spike did horrific things as vampires, but one did did everything he could to atone and one didn’t bother that much. One of them was there fighting the fight with or without a soul and or one could one could only do so with a soul. Neither could really love (the comics made clear that post-soul Spike himself does not believe what he felt for Buffy pre-soul was love) but one got much closer. It has to do with the human being they were before.

      Yes please cry as much as you feel inside…… your face communicates so much when you don’t speak your thoughts out loud.
      And often you’re stepping on important dialogue or character moments. Making me wonder “did she miss that line because she was talking?
      (am sorry but talking about nothing that much worth hearing DURING the episode Itself)
      Or did she hear it and simply not react to it because her brain was thinking about something from 2 mins ago…………or is thinking about TVD or maybe she just wants to put on a baby voice and scream “no!” At the tv. 🤦‍♂️
      You need a editor like a diabetic need insulin.
      I’ve watch all your buffy and angel and fire fire and daredevil and JEssica Jones reactions.
      You give audio commentaries, repeatable commentaries. rather childish commentaries that are supposed to come across as cute, but adults behaving like kids isn’t cute it’s not annoying. We not sharing in your experience if you’re putting yourself above the show, if anything the show brought us to your channel and we see you (sorry but) disrespecting it.
      Again I must ask why did you call your channel aftershow reacts when 90% of your videos you “react” while your watching it for the first time.
      And have nothing but stunned silence at the end followed by a cut to black. And most of the time you don’t establish where you are in the show before you start a new one, you just seem to get into it as fast as possible.
      And please oh please oh please when you made that great video about people posting spoilers…..and how much you hate it. Why doesn’t that stop you from asking rhetorical/stupid questions to your audience that are begging to be spoiled.
      Last two reaction I heard I only have eyes for you.
      Buffy pulls a gun on Angel.
      You:: (very loudly compared to the footage) BULLETS DONT KILL VAMPIRES!
      And becoming part one yelling at Kendra to move when she been hypnotised it’s just a pain in the ass. Or pointing out that floppy disc between the desks and blaring out what it’s for with an much excitement as though, adunno you were the only person to see that coming….. especially when it was the cliffhanger like 4 episodes ago.
      Despite all the criticism, I love your channel but there are areas you could improve upon that would make your videos much more enjoyable to watch.
      If you just paused and thought logically about why you’re gonna say I’d bet you’d find 65% of it was unnecessary, obstructive or down right annoying.
      Cry your eyes out! I do too. But please take notes on what you wanna talk about and save them til the end of the video….

    I don't know if you've noticed, but "Close your eyes" was also what Darla told Angel before she sired him. There is a deliberate parallel between those two scenes of Angel's two small, blonde love interests killing/siring him and sending him to hell, respectively. And both times - as with the third big moment of his (un)life, Romani cursing him with restoration of his soul - he was not a master of his destiny, as the big moments of his fate happened to him without his chpice or foreknowledge.

    You caught the "coming out" analogy, remembered the vampires don't breathe flaw and you ask yourself the right questions. Keep paying attention to the details. The show will draw on them and refer to them in jokes throughout the entire series. With the observation skills and memory you have, you're going to really enjoy the series. There really isn't a heartbreak as big as this one coming for quite a while. They're mostly little ones in comparison. Be prepared to cry big fat happy tears in an episode later in season 3. Remain seated with your seat-belt firmly fastened. The ride has finished cranking up and dropping its 1st plunge, and is going into the roller-coaster run.

    I remember being maybe 10 or 11 when I first watched this... crying for days over the whole season really. And every rewatch I still cry. Buffy felt like she’d lost her mum; her home; school... she felt like she lost her friends because they had all wanted her to kill angel and so how could she go to them and morn and get comfort from them? And then she not only lost angel; but was the one to kill him! My heart stills breaks in a million pieces.. and then the musical score ...

    Loved, loved your reaction. Becoming part 2 is such a beautiful episode (part one is great too but part 2 is just so masterfully done). It's an overwhelming roller coaster of emotions. Beautiful, funny, heartfelt, sad, hopeful, scary, dark, and tragic. It's almost perfect and I love everything about it (well, almost everything, but I'll get to that a bit later). That last secen between Buffy and Angel makes me cry too (and I suspect most if not all Buffy fans as well). It's in my top 10 of the entire series. So many great moments and scenes and iconic quotes in this episode too. Angel: "No friends, no weapons, no hope. Take all that way and what's left?" Buffy: "Me". Gives me chills every time. And of course the ever iconic "Close your eyes" which, by the way, is also the name of the Buffy and Angel theme song.
    One last note, this is the episode that cements my hate for Xander. He had no right to keep Willow's message from Buffy. He's hated Angel ever since season 1 just because he got to be with Buffy and Xander didn't. And he's never gotten over his petty, insecure jealousy towards Angel. This jealousy and resentment colors Xander's perception and clouds his judgment when it comes to Angel. Just listen to the way he talks about Angel/Angelus in Becoming part one as well as passion. The resentment and viciousness and hostility that drips from his every word. There's nothing noble or altruistic about this hate, it all boils down to Xander's personal, and incredibly selfish against Angel. He has no right to give Buffy grief about the way she handles or chooses to handle the Angelus situation and he sure as fuck had no right to keep this incredibly vital information from her. he doesn't get to make this decision for Buffy. She's the one who's going into this fight, she needs to have all the data, know all the pieces in play so she can adapt her strategy accordingly. And Xander hides one the biggest pieces away in his pocket out of pettiness and jealousy. It's disgusting. Who knew how things would've turned out had Buffy known. If I were Buffy, I would've ended by friendship with Xander once I learned the truth.
    Sorry for the rant. I just really hate Xander and what he did here.

      Debra Battle the finale of s3 was first episode I saw, i was maybe 9 or 10 and it was airing on tv (bbc2 on a sunday evening of all places lol!) and i saw the episode and was hooked! Luckily my bday and xmas was coming up so i asked for the vhs boxsets so I could try and watch and catch up asap! I was young so took me a little while to get through them all as found some episodes very scary, and the emotions were so high in some episodes I just cried and didnt know what to do with my feelings over a tv show lol!
      So for me s3 is my favourite whole for sure. S2 totally broke my heart. As do many other episodes later down the line! I was so lucky i could go through all the seasons and not wait; until i hit s5 lol. Then i recorded them on vhs on sky and would just rewatch until the next episode lol! Then had to wait 6-12 months for the next season!! Was horrible lol!

    ....aaaaaannnnd welcome to the heartbroken following of Buffy and Angel lol. This show, and in particular, this episode, is why I can't watch other vampire romances. I'm not shitting on people who are into those other shows, but to me, all the others like Twilight, True Blood, etc....they're all unoriginal to me. Buffy and Angel were the first and last, partly due to the amazing chemistry between Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz. Love watching your reaction! Looking forward to more :)

      Not only that but they have the most interesting dynamic. Both being chosen ones, lovers, and mortal enemies, angelus being the most famous and dengerous vampire of all time nearly equal to dracula, buffy being the most the best,most badass ,and also most controversial slayer in history. I can't think of another vampire story that's close to such a powerful dynamic. Maybe queen of the damned. Maybe

    Funny thing here: Back in Season 1, or early in this season, Buffy getting expelled from the school would have been a huge storyline point and personal disaster for Buffy. Now, Snyder comes in, savours the moment, and delivers his big line which he has waited for months: and viewer and Buffy are both "Seriously? Who the hell even cares at this point." It is a small moment of genius, showing a character stuck deep in the past and being overtaken by events. When your friends are dying, world is ending, police is chasing you and mom kicked you out, getting expelled doesn't even register anymore yet Snyder acts like it's still a big deal and he is somehow relevant.

    Just my personal explanation for Dru fainting there:
    Spike (choking Dru) created a pressure of blood in Dru's head and did it long enough to render her brain unconscious.
    Also in case you ever wonder; you'll see in the show that vampires can technically breathe (presumably they do it as an instinct from when they were alive,) but there is no 'life' in their breath. Vampires are living-dead creatures and so cannot produce life in any way, as they are technically dead.
    Great reaction btw. Loving them! :)

    • @frakkintoasterluvva7920
      @frakkintoasterluvva7920 6 лет назад +3

      SashaRicky Well, if they couldn't breathe, then they couldn't smoke, and some - like Spike - obviously do!
      Not to mention, if they have no blood flow, they wouldn't be able to get erections - and they obviously do...

    • @SashaRicky
      @SashaRicky 6 лет назад

      FrakkinToaster Luvva no they can inhale and exhale air (it's also a subconscious instinct vampires do, left over from when they were alive), but there is no 'life' in their breath. Part of what breathe means is to breathe life. Vampires can't create life, because they're dead. The only thing they can create is death. Vampire breath is pointless. They don't need it to live and they can't give life with it. Which eludes to them being breathless.
      I never said they didn't have circulation. They obviously have some kind. They don't have beating hearts so the circulation has to work differently for vampires as supernatural, living-dead creatures. I imagine their circulation works slower than human circulation, which is why they are paler and colder.

  • @DaveVampireSlayer

    What else to say about this season finale?
    A clear step forward compared to the excellent previous one, Buffy experiments with the "hard life of the hero", that is to sacrifice even what you love most for a higher Good, and while saving the whole World touches the lowest point of her life! Unlawfully kicked out of school, breaking with her mother, feeling responsible for the thousand dangers run by her friends and for Kendra's death, in which she saw an "obscure" version of herself, and forced to kill the one she loves so much, ends up to get to have to get away from everyone. A choise that we can not condemn or justify completely, Buffy acts with a little selfishness but also in the grip of too much pain and suffering, in short, difficult to really criticize.
    Fortunately, the third season will show that even when you hit the bottom, it is not impossible to get back!

    The Spike twist was great. It's one reason I'm happy you reacted to I Only Have Eyes For You and that end scene.
    I think the general consensus is season 2 is best season. The interplay between characters and the small yet grand scale of the season. BUT season 3 may bring out some of your favorite single episodes of the series. A lot of solid ones. Look forward to the season 2 q&a video

    • @nodiggity4283
      @nodiggity4283 6 лет назад

      Tommy Boman depends on which characters you like. As I'm not a huge Willow fan I wasn't really into it (im not going to get into anything about the season specifically for spoiler reasons and others might read it). But again I think season 6 has some great individual episodes. The only thing is if SMG herself says she had such a problem with season 6 I don't really think I can claim it objectively as the best.
      EDIT I missed the last part of your comment when commented. I think Becoming, Innocence, Surprise, School Hard and others could easily be put into top 10 episodes of the series.

    • @nodiggity4283
      @nodiggity4283 6 лет назад +2

      obviously can't talk about it in detail but i'll say season 6 stuff that happened was not the reason i watch a show called Buffy the Vampire Slayer

    • @frakkintoasterluvva7920
      @frakkintoasterluvva7920 6 лет назад +4

      There is no such consensus. In fact, most often people either put season 3 or season 5 as the best, though season 2 is many people's favorite, season 6 is also many people's favorite (though there are also many that hate it, it is very polarizing), and there are even those that have 7 or 4 as their favourite.
      I think season 5 is the best. Seasons 2 and 6 are however very close to my heart, and then I'd put 3 at number 4. Season 4 has a weak overall plot but some amazing standalones, 7 has some stuff I love but problems in execution, and while 1 is the weakest, even it has some great episodes.

    • @nodiggity4283
      @nodiggity4283 6 лет назад +1

      FrakkinToaster Luvva I notice there's a loud minority that say season 5 is great. But truthfully I think it's the facebook and twitter groups and stuff that banded together and decided season 5 was great. But overall yes season 2 was more universally loved. I think the show started losing viewers season 4 and 5 mostly because it became more female focused and started to really let down male fans. We can talk about it more when she gets to those seasons but season 2 really has the best characters and I think all the characters are fleshed out and well done.
      Season 5 had too much politics that hurt the season. I just wasn't a fan of the direction Marti Noxon took the show. Even on her twitter bio she acknowledges the criticisms by saying "i ruined buffy and i'll ruin you too"
      for me I think it stems down to seasons 1 through 3 were a lot more gothic in tone. Which is what I gravitated to. Season 4 on just didn't capture that gothic or simple tone. Joss Whedon was much more involved seasons 1 through 3 hence why they were so good. And demons were metaphors rather than literal monsters as later on.

    • @frakkintoasterluvva7920
      @frakkintoasterluvva7920 6 лет назад

      Wow... I don't even know where to begin with that one. Everything you said in that post was wrong.
      First off, no, it's not a "loud minority". Actually, a great many people think that season 5 is the best season. It's the second most popular choice for 'best season', after season 3.
      Secondly, you have trouble recognizing irony, don't you? You actually thought Marti Noxon making fun of her haters is her agreeing with them? LMAO
      Not to mention, what the hell does Marti Noxon have to do with the direction of the show in season 5? That was all Joss Whedon, just as much as it was in seasons 2 or 3. You're seriously deluded if you think Joss stopped being involved in the show after season 3 or 4, or that he wasn't the showrunner and just as involved as ever during season 5. Marti's influence on season 5 was considerable, of course - just as it was on season 2. Or did you forget the fact that she was one of the main writers since season 2? And for that matter, while she was the showrunner in season 6, 70% of the plot points and general writing decisions (including some of the most controversial ones) were directly from Joss Whedon, and 100% of them were approved by him.
      And as for this gem - "I think the show started losing viewers season 4 and 5 mostly because it became more female focused and started to really let down male fans"
      - Wow. I hardly have a comment. You seem to have a problem with women. No surprise you're trying to blame Marti Noxon for things you don't like in BtVS. Makes me wonder why you even watched Buffy. Guess what - it was always female focused. And I don't think it was ever a show for someone with your mindset.

As a person who knows this show inside out, knowing what was coming I really felt for you..... This show will often and in many different ways hit you in the feels. And buffy doing what needs to be done ...... does not always end in a happy ending.
    Also to me, the song that plays at the end of the episode ("Full of grace" by Sarah McLachlan) is the absolute perfect episode end. whenever I hear this song anywhere I remember this episode, and how I felt when I first saw it nearly 20 years ago.....
