    I’ve watched a bunch of reviews on this camera. More say it’s bad than good. I have a GH5, so tons of m43 lenses in my stash. I picked up the G100 cheap on sale.. mind blowing image quality out of the box. I can’t understand the hate around this camera.

    • @mistermastermind528

      I actually found a seller online who discounts the G100 at around $576. Makes for an interesting 3rd camera for a G85 and GX85 setup. I'm just wondering if the latest image quality that the G100 provides is still the same or unnoticeably different from the technology inside the G85 and GX85.

      @@Avadanger it's tempting. But I really have to see if I need a third one. I don't use my cameras as often as I want, all the more because of the pandemic. And I might have some trouble managing all my devices. It really is tempting...........

      The point is that Eric uses it in 1080p whereas dpreview & Co insist on taking it as a 4K camera when we all know it is rather crappy in 4K.

    • @mistermastermind528
      @mistermastermind528 Год назад

      @Love4theSport I'm familiar with the idea that the G100 has better image quality. The issue is if it's that noticeable compared to the GX85 and G85.
      Beyond image quality, the G100 isn't worth it compared to the G85 and GX85. Continuous recording in 4K MP4 or 1080p AVCHD and IBIS. I mean IBIS alone is already a huge complaint that people have for the G100. As for audio, I record using a separate recording device almost all the time.

    Nice "real world" review. As an travel-loving hobby photographer, I am always looking at pocketable camera options. The G100 looks like a good option for street photo travel scenarios. Not all RUclipsrs posted negative reviews. Some months ago MarkusPix gave the G100 a positive review.

Might even use it as my main travel vlogging camera, rather than the G95, due to small size and weight. Only down side form me with the G100 is the inbuilt flash is not that great and does not raise up high enough !!.. ( I often use fill in flash when doing still photos of people.)

    Eric, thanks for the honest review. You're right. It's definitely better than advertised. This is my current camera (gifted to me) and I have some questions about microphone and the best lens to use. if you have a link to book a quick call with you let me know. If not my questions are 2 fold. 1.) what mic are you running in this video, and 2.) years later now....what lens would you suggest? I'm mainly using it for some quality still photos (for my agency) and to get quality videos for social. Not a ton of motion, but also need the depth of field to be their so it gives off the vibe that it's not done with an iphone camera lol. there's a little more to it than that but that's basically it. thanks.

    Hi Eric! I am an old dog trying to learn some new tricks and definitely need to upgrade from my ancient Canon T3 (embarrassed to even share that) the two cameras I am considering are this one and the Canon ZV-1 (I plan to watch your video on it as well. Does this camera overheat like the Canon? I generally film for a few hours at a time so I am worried about overheating and how long I can film for. Also for the built in mic. How faraway can you be sitting from it and still get clear recording? Sorry for all the questions but after watching a few videos with no clear answers I am starting to simply ask 😃! I was also curious if there is a recommendation on the size of the memory card as I fill up 64s pretty fast and hope it can go bigger. Does that make sense? 🤔😄. It sounds great with the mic you were using. I assume it’s listed in the video description, but if not, can you please share it with me? Thanks for your time, great video! Kayla

    What do you suggest? I have a Canon Vixia HF G40 video camera and it has a heck of a time giving me the amount of background blur I need for some interior sci-fi shots while shooting a close subject. Telephoto setting, yes. Even in manual and ND filters.

    1. What external Mic were you using with the G100? and follow up as a test could you distance rate your audio with & without the external mic. to see what sounds better.

    I hate how everyone just disregards all M43 cameras these days and only full frame is worth mentioning. And this is coming from someone who actually uses a full frame camera. I have a canon R5 and I use it for event and indoor where I can’t use a flash. I pair it with the 100-500 for wildlife photography but for everything else, I tend to reach for my m43 cameras more because it is more lightweight and it produces more than good enough image quality for my use when travel with my families. I don’t want to lug around so much weight when you are packing your kids stuff. I can pack a few lens and a camera body without weighting me down. But for full frame I probably can only pack two lenses and that’s it. Also, not everyone can afford full frame lenses especially those good rf glass, they are heavy and expensive .

      great point Ryan. Eric and I were just chatting on this. one of my favorite video cameras is the Sony RX100VA and it's only a 1 inch sensor. I love it because it can live in my pocket.
      I also own the Fuji X-E3 and love that camera because it's a small X-pro to me and has all of the capabilities (plus acros) but is an APS-C sensor.
      Finally, I have a very old (over a decade) but new to me camera on the way that will be my daily driver for photos that is a 1/1.7 inch sensor because I've been shooting my old Canon S90 (yeah very old) and fell back in love with the form factor.
      It's about making art, making images and sharing the process along the way!

      In my opinion M43 cameras have some problem with their identity. It makes sense to have small body such as GX9, GX80 with prime lenses and small zooms. It makes sense to have G9 or G90 with zoom lenses such as 12-60 or 45-150 that are not ergonomic on small body without grip. But buying expensive zoom lenses with lower aperture to match quality, weight and size of APSC or even FF camera makes no sense. Yet youtubers are reviewing and recommending it based on technical specifications rather than anything else.

The G100 is a street photographer's dream: it is light, has the same sensor as the G9, has a great viewfinder and great ergonomics, is small and has several customizable buttons. The G100 wasn't marketed very well that's why it got so much backlash. The G100D has an even better viewfinder. Oh it's also very well priced!

    I own this camera, primarily for stills. I love my larger Nikons, but as I age the size and weight of them and their accessories becomes burdensome. The mobility of the G100, while maintaining 90% of what my Nikons give me is invaluable. I love this camera. Btw: Panasonic has done two firmware updates since 1.1.

    The AF is almost ok, but not good enough for me, and it's showing in this video.
    When you show your pocket at 3:03 it focuses on the back and stays there the whole time, until you start moving a lot again.
    And at 4:35 the AF follows, but there's pulsing. It's fine for a 1080p video with this lens, which has enough DOF. But Canon/Sony do a notably better job, and I think at 4K the AF-wobble will be too distracting.
    All in all it's a good camera for the price (especially for traveling).
    But I still think the vlogging-marketing makes no sense without IBIS and this AF.
    It's more like a light-weight allrounder.

    I am looking at the G100D because, and I differ greatly with you, I tried the G100 and I found the EVF absolutely horrible. I wonder if there's variance but I found two major issues
    - pincushion (that part doesn't super bother me)
    - major blurriness looking into the image unless you look directly at the center rwith your eye. Very easy to go blurry. This was the deal breaker
    - The blacks are crushed. Colors differ quite a bit from the LCD. This is not a deal breaker to me but quite annoying.
    Now that the EVF has an OLED in the G100D, I am curious, I just hope they replaced the optical mechanism of the EVF which I think it's the culprit of my really bad experience.

    Panasonic went totally backwards on this camera IMO. By putting in a higher megapixel count, It now has a 4k crop of 1.26x with no IS and 1.37x with IS Standard. This is getting pretty bad compared to my GX85. This kills the very use of vlogging unless you stick to 1080p. Also a 10min 4k time limit and 20min 1080 time limit? This is terrible and disqualifies it as a vlogging camera IMO. I can't have a camera artificially turning off. This will happen and often. Back in the day, only Panasonic had some cameras with no time limit, such as the GX85 (this has real ibis to). Now Panasonic put time limits back in and Sony took it out. So there is no reason for me to consider the newer crippled cameras. I don't mean to sound negative. I still have the G7 and GX85 and love them. I just don't like the direction Panasonic is going now. They are following Canon's crippling techniques.

      How are you vlogging for for more than 20mins in one take...

    • @TheAdventureSchmuck
      @TheAdventureSchmuck 7 месяцев назад

      Yeah, I owned a GX85. I upgraded to the G100, which is significantly better. The onboard mics are way better on the G100. You can use an external mic on the cold shoe on the G100, the GX85 doesn't have a 3.5mm mic input jack. You can't shoot in V-log for color grading on the GX85. The G100 has V-log built in. The 4k crop on the GX85 is 1.1, so claiming the 1.2 of the G100 is significantly worse is laughable. You don't like the e-stabilization crop? Don't use it. The lens stabilization is quite good without it. People keep screwing the numbers up too. 4k is 10 minute limit, 1080p 30p is 30 minutes. I have never met a single person in my life that can long for 20 to 30 minutes without rambling about a bunch of off topic things or huge pauses of dead air. The color science on the GX85 looks like dogshit next to a G100, too. So yet another internet expert on a camera you've never used.... Congrats. I've owned both cameras and the G100 was the better of the 2.
