    The potential of the g100 is much greater. Evf, mic input, interchangeable lenses. Makes a much better video/photo hybrid shooter.

      After seeing the better video image quality of the G100 in many parts of this video demo, I agree the Panasonic G100 is the best of the 3. The iphone and ZV-1 did not look good in some parts of this review, especially the lower the light went.)

      And it's a lot better than it gets credit for. Only real downside is the 2160p crop. If you want quality 2160p, you really need to look at a different price point. For quality 1080p, it's an excellent camera.

      @@BillyBobDingledorfall I use is 1080 p 60 anyways especially for streaming and it’s great on a tripod because you could disable the stabilizer and gets rid of all crop at 1080 in 4k it crops no matter what so that’s kinda whack

    The g100 is the the most flexible of all the cameras presented here with greater lens selection and for options for audio.
    The Panasonic and iPhone will be the most reliable cameras as the zv pop out lens system is Significant future failure point.
    The G100 was designed as a 1080 optimized video camera and stills camera. V-logging does not require 4K video as this video seems to suggest. Most people watch videos on portable devices and streaming to these devices is not done in 4K there’s no reason for it which is why the Panasonic is optimized for 1080. Additionally it does appear that the Panasonic uses the 4K signal and down samples it to 1080 which provides a higher quality video sample similar to what a few years ago cinema cameras like that Canon C 100 used to do.
    I kind of feel like the heavy 4K crop on the Panasonic was outlined as a negative whereas there was no or little mention of the 1080 video it provides which is an unbalanced review.
    I’m pretty sure the old iPhone Xr it was also not shot in 4K which is not featured here. And the Sony is also cropped 4K which makes for a similarly too tight for unusable vlogging look.
    Simply the 4K modes of the Sony and Panasonic are used to provide stabilization for 1080 video. From the manufacturer’s perspective they opted to allow access to 4K for filming because that’s what people are assessing as a value option for purchase and called it feature set. However the down sampling is what is used to provide electronic stabilization without more expensive and mechanical hardware. They understand that full readout 4K is not necessary for intended application.
    I get that they trying to do it out of the box comparison with these three cameras but once you start down the road of filming then you’ll quickly see that the limitations of the Zv1. With the Sony there are no options outside of what you purchased in the first place. With the Panasonic you can add ultra wide angles and telephoto lenses from mid range to high quality.
    When you’re buying a camera you’re buying a platform. The platform can be the cell phone which has limitations to the built in cameras and some external mic options to full cinema cameras.
    The point-and-shoot camera style of the Sony has limitations of a single lens system with no adaptability. The Panasonic has the most flexible choice for focal lengths. The Panasonic is also a really great stills camera. Going back to the platform argument, the ZV is so limited it’s really hard to justify other than perhaps it’s size
    This video doesn’t speak to workflow at all, which is the other half of the equation. Which camera offers the fastest or easiest import to an NLE, what requires the least amount of post processing to I can get my videos out to you tube.
    Using the iPhone and an NLE is not necessarily the easiest of tasks if you’re not using something like final cut pro. But more importantly that a lot of people want to edit their videos on portable devices , laptops and tablets, but as you start getting into 4K video for 720 / 1080 P delivery typically, you’re just using a lot of computing power and hard drive space for no real gain.
    I honestly think that this review should have been done by comparing the 1080 output, done with the cameras being hand held and on sticks from an arm’s-length distance as a vlog would do. The review could also have included some narration from behind the camera while filming something and you would quickly see that the rear facing mic on the Panasonic is very good idea.
    After watching a lot of RUclips videos on various cameras over the years I think I’m just a little frustrated sometimes about the lack of objectivity that goes into these types of reviews. There’s a lot of talk about hardware but not the implications of utilization of the hardware in the day-to-day tasks that they are meant to be used for. There are reasons why hardware is designed the way that it is and features or lack of features are often looked at as a negative when compared to another device whereas that feature may not have added any real value whatsoever. If the zv1 offered 6k would that be better? If the Panasonic offered ibis would it be better? Well 6k will kill your battery and drive space, while ibis increases the size, weight and decreases battery life. Can it be done, yes... but are these features adding real value to the task at hand. Tangental feature sets are a case study in consumer and industrial design. More is not always better.

      Many good points. This review was not done well. For example, did they really listen to the audio output? The G100 outperformed the others by a mile overall. Oh well, no surprise. This is why I don't subscribe to DPReview.

  • @adv3
    @adv3 3 года назад +13

    I actually think G100 is quite better in almost every regard from both, but it require other lenses then the kit one, it is not built for just one. And the autofocus was improved as you said. And it is the biggest sensor. But it can also do close and far object. And the stablilization if you lower the level of it will have less crop, the highest setting is for the back mic and you behind the camera, but the lower one is comparable with the other 2 and give you wider view, and with another lense it can give you even more. And the sound is unfair, because ZV1 is with in the box this fur, but if you add it to the panasonic g100 will sound much more comparable and very close to Sony. So I think with some smart choices of lenses, fur, and tweaking of the profiles in the camera Panasonic can be easily the winner...

      G100 sounds much natural too me where ZV-1 sounds very thin and muffled, like you'd hear underwater recorded sound. Also I'd prefer G100 SOOC colour than ZV-1.

  • @adrianvanleeuwen
    @adrianvanleeuwen Год назад +3

    Personally after reviewing these video samples I would put the winner as the Panasonic G100. Why? It clearly has superior video "image quality" over the other 2 cameras which have smaller sensors. Also, not all vloggers have to shoot at 4K or want to. You could easily vlog at 1080P at 30 frames. Sure in some areas of this video, the others are better in use, but in the end, the image quality of the m43 sensor of G100 wins. If walking with the G100 keep in 1080P, and use stabilizers at 30 fps, but don't walk as fast and video is fine. Some creators capture in 1080P then after their final edit, they uprez to 4K before posting on RUclips. Some only post at 1080P. For the low cost of a G100 in this price range, is it in my view better for vlogging over these other 2. (However, if you going to a higher price, you might consider Sony ZV-E10 or Nikon z30 or Canon R10 as alternatives with larger APSC sensors. Note, that the lenses get larger the bigger sensor you go).

      Unfortunately I think most people don't even notice it and want that. I mean a few of the most downloaded apps sole purpose is to make your skin and face look as unnatural as possible. There are music videos with 200k$+ budget shot on Arris and Reds which get completely destroyed in post production by skin smoothing. Watch like any Kpop MV. Videos like Blackpinks Du-Du-Du have super expensive makeup artists yet they decide it's not enough and they gotta obliterate anything that resembles human skin. Influencers in china already started using special makeup that raises contrast on their face so the filters work better for their livestreams (look at South China Morning Posts "Live-streamers use scary make-up to look perfect on camera"). We've reached a point where a huge amount of people expect their camera to make them look like that.

Use standard digital, plus lens stabilization in either 4K or 1080p, update the firmware, and it will blow the other two into the weeds. Later you can add a Laowa 7.5mm f/2 to your kit (it's manual focus, but the new version connects electronically for aperture control) for all the wide angle loveliness you'll ever need. Out of the box the Panasonic is an interchangeable lens camera. Easy to put on lenses from fisheye to telephoto. There are plenty of fast lenses available at f1.4, f1.2, and f0.95. Restricting the test to just the kit lens is hobbling the Panasonic in regards to where it shines. Changing lenses makes the Panasonic the best of the 3 in low light, and makes it the best for a wide view. This is an out of the box capability.

    I think I know what this video was trying to do, be a showcase for some "new" (iphone xr ain't exactly new or even the best cell phone for vlogging) products that are relatively different from one another, but the underlying premise is quite silly, not everyone has a iphone sitting in their pocket, even if everyone did have an iphone in their pocket, does anyone want to watch more vlogs done on iphones or point n shoot cameras? The video should have been titled "which device to get the least awful, but still terrible looking content on the internet as easily as possible that no one is gonna bother watching", none of these are the best vlogging tools in this price range (fuji x-t200? Panasonic G7?) and the hosts probably know that, heaven forbid they do a "best vlogging cameras you can get second hand on ebay, with enough leftover for a decent lens"

      Autofocus doesn't work, 4K is cropped, no stabilization at all and photo quality is destroyed by shutter shock. It is cheap, it has 4K but thats where pros of this camera ends. I still have G7 on shelf, because thats the first camera I bought with my money and I have a lot of memories with it, but I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. Save up for G85 and you will get magnesium body, weather sealing, very good IBIS, no shutter shock, more FPS in continuous photo mod,e 2x bigger buffer, faster UHS interface, SD card slot on right instead of bottom, slightly larger EVF magnification and electronic stabilization option. Still I probably forgot about many other G85 advantages. Or you can get GX80 which at least in my country is the same price as G7, but it has IBIS.

    And yet, if most of the people here were asked: What camera out of these 3 would you pick? Almost all would say Panasonic, for the mount. I get the comparison with out of the box things, but then you can say: On iphone, you can edit your videos, and share them. If you are spending that much money on vlogging, you are at least semi-serious. And out of the box is not how they would use the cameras.

    In the real world, people in the Apple Ecosystem tend to be all Apple all the time (they've drunk the Kool-Aid). I can use my Apple Watch 5 as both a viewfinder and a remote trigger for my iPhone XS-not an option available with either Sony or Panasonic. Because of this I don't need to always have the camera in my hand-I can be more creative with composition. Also my Watch 5 has a built-in mic, obviating the need to stay close the the camera to record sound.
    With a smart-phone you can do your editing, using an app, with your phone. No need to rush home to your iMac, before airing. Another smart-phone plus is the ability to stream live. My iPhone XS has an IP68 water resistance rating (1 meter for 30 minuets), letting me sing and dance in the rain if I feel the urge ;-). Whats not to like 8-)
