Even with a bigger budget that can be a great option. I got my G9 like a year after release in pristine quality (with shutter count of like 2000). It was like 400€ cheaper than a new Body but it also included the battery grip and a 2nd battery. Not sure if I would've spend the ridiculous price Panasonic charges for the grip on it's own, but shooting with long lenses like the 200mm 2.8 I really appreciate it. So realistically I saved somewhere between 400-700€ by buying used with basically no real disadvantage.
that´s not an option if used gear does not come with a warranty as it does in my country. Unless you know very well the previous owner, that would be great.
For 1000 bucks you can get a used D750 with a fast prime. Not a good video option, but in terms of photography it'll do worlds better than any crop sensor solution, new or used.
If it’s for photo a used RP with the RF 50mm f1.8 is a good deal. And if you can get the RP for $700 you can get the adapter for $100 and get a $200 EF lens like a 24-85 ($100 lens actually) and a nifty fifty. Or change the 24-85 for a 20-35 f3.4-4.5. Or for APS-C, maybe an used M50 for less than $500 and get some nice lenses with the additional $500. You could adapt a 17-55 f2.8 or if found for cheap the 18-35 f1.8 used. Or buy a native 32mm f1.4 or one of the sigma 56mm f1.4. Cameras, especially mirrorless are super reliable. Buying used is a great way to soften the economical blow.

I like Jordan's choice. The EM-10 iv is a very capable camera and Olympus has killer glass.... I'd like to see Chris on a shoot with an Olympus OM1 with Tri-x!!! HA!!!!

@Coo Koo it's a useless question we need to know what kind of Photography you want to pursue and do you have any other lenses it's a lot more factors that go into that question
For M43, I feel like the Panasonic G85 is also worth looking into. Same price as the EM-10, fewer MPs but a killer video centric camera. And the kit lens that comes with it is pretty great!
Almost a year ago I went through this process with the same budget to get my first ever camera. And i as Chris did I too landed on the Fujifilm xt30. I must say that I’m super pleased with it the only problem is that my hard earned money keep going to new camera gear all the time.
@Coo Koo Well you can find them from decent prices to quite expensive. It’s just that I’m a beginner and I quickly got hocked then you need a good tripod then a camera gear bag and then... and then... feels like it never ends 😀
@Coo Koo the S10 didn’t exist when I bought my camera and today I would have gone with that. If I got it right it the same sensor in both cameras and you get in body stabilator with the S10 that Xt 30 doesn’t have.
@Coo Koo I did a time laps shooting and I think I shoot around 700 pictures from one battery. For what it comes to lens quality I’m don’t have enough experience I would suggest to search review here in RUclips. You will get much better answers from that.
Gx9 with the 12-32 kit lens and the lumix G ll Vario 100-300mm. Comes in at around £1000. Just realised I only have £740 to spend 😀 In that case the gx9 with 12-60 and use the change towards another lens.
Hi guy's. Very funny. I ordered my new Xt30 one hour before with 18-55 as a kit. I sold my Olympus em10iii for this. Olympus is a great System but for my hand a little bit to small. I travelled with several em10 around the world and they where great partners. Now I change to Fuji and hope that I will not miss the features from Olympus not so much. Fuji here I come.
@@williamwalters3796 I'm not the original commenter, but I hope I can help nonetheless. Video on the X-S10 is absolutely killer for the price. You get IBIS, 4K30, Fuji's amazing Eterna profile (considered to be one of the best, if not the best, color profiles for video color reproduction), fast sensor readout for low rolling shutter (the X-S10 kills the Z50 in this regard), a fully-articulating screen, and even a tally lamp, because why not. If you haven't yet, I'd recommend watching DPReview's X-S10 video, especially Jordan's segment. Personally, I'd say it's the second best jack of all trades video package for under $2000, behind the X-T4, which is 70% more expensive. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that Fuji has a far better APS-C lens ecosystem. That's probably the Z50's biggest weak point. Nikon hasn't bothered releasing any mirrorless APS-C lenses since it first launched (they only have two!). In stark contrast, Fuji releases 3 to 6 APS-C lenses alone each year.
@@Osukaroni hey thanks for the comparison 😁 Since I asked about the X-S10 I’ve watched every video youtube has recommended me about it, and decided to go with the X-S10, mainly because IBIS and the video colors compared to Nikon which only has 8 bit variable bitrate stuff and no external 10 bit option.
Funny enough, this video came out around the time I decided to get into photography and roughly had a $1000 set for it. I went with the M50 and a week later got the 22mm pancake on sale for $100 off. Can't say I was really happy with it until two months later I got the 55-200mm lens. That push it well over $1000, but it made me really happy with the M50.
I recently did this about a year ago. Looking at used gear, it was a Fujifilm X-t2, in silver. For lenses, I went with TTArtisan's 50mm f1.2 and 35mm f1.4, since I like shooting manual and did not want to be restricted with a single lens. Also a hand grip, wrist strap, shutter button, and 2 32gb memory cards. Great inspiration device to get me out and taking photos.
@@gtaliano you won‘t regret it, I did so aswell(come from 80d).But to take real advance of the m system I think you have to purchase native glass (small ergo‘s)
@@gtaliano Probably a good plan, but you might want to wait a little bit and see what this “pivot” that Canon has been hinting at for the M system is going to be before you invest.
These were the two I selected as well after weeks of doubt, decided for the XT-30. It has the bigger sensor and the retro design is gorgeous. A good looking camera you pick up more often I figured.
For photography i would defenitly go with a Pentax K-70 with the 18-135mm lens. That's the only kit in that price range to feature: full wheater sealing, sharp zoom lens, good AF, great image quality and IBIS!
Value for money crop sensors like M4/3 and Fuji are great! A range of tiny, dedicated primes for each and more than good enough image quality for most uses. Lovely choices.
@@turbochargedbrick lol. As a non fuji user I fear x-trans as an "unknown" as it has a rep to be harder to process in non-fuji apps such as Lightroom. Is this still an issue these days?
I got a new Fuji XE3 and 18-55 kit lense for $800 for my girlfriend for Christmas. Added the Fuji 55-200 for $350 to put it over the limit. It's amazing the quality you can get if you shop older models and sales.
A few month ago I stood in front of the same challenge and also went for the X-T30. I have to say I'm totally in love with it. Even though I'm a beginner, I think I made the right choice.
If I had the same budget, I would almost always go second-hand for my gear. A bit of a cop-out for sure, but you get so much more for your money. And I buy most of my stuff from used from camera stores and they all come with a warranty of at least 6 months. In the UK at least. Same goes for lenses. I can stretch my budget further that way.
I went through this last spring. I devoured DP review videos. I found a Panasonic G95 for $850 as an open box. It's been great, I love it! Now that being said, I kinda wished I spent a couple of hundred dollars more and bought the G9
@@sdhute Is it a significant step up in size? At some point, I would like to get a GH5 for more serious filming. I would probably hang on to the G95 as travel camera and a B cam. I'm a sucker for M43 due to the size
The XE-4 with the 27mm is currently less than $900. If you sell the lens ($300) it's a $600 camera with the same sensor as the XT-30. Then you can stock up on cheaper primes (Viltrox 33mm) and cheaper zooms later on (XF line). That is if you can live with slightly fewer buttons :-)
For all the negativity m43rds gets, you still get a lot for your money and my em10 is the camera i nearly always have on me cos its so small and light.
The M43 negativity come from people that actually do not own or use it, but parrot what "influencers" say, who are always looking for new "hype" to increase viewership and sponsored trips to try what they are going to "sell you on" next.
@@des4719 the 'influencers' weren't getting trips to Hawaii, Grand Canyon, flown around the world to events when new cameras were released. So, they have to "pander" to them. They pull out their magnifying glasses, blow up images 1000% to prove their point on the inferiority of M43. The top selling lens mount in Japan? M43. Stellar video without a tripod because of it's IBIS. But their views are biased for a reason. $$$
I just bought X-S10 + 23mm F2 for a little bit less than 1000 USD. Great fast lens, nice focal range, IBIS in body, fuji film simulations, fully articulated flipped screen. Perfect for me :). Would prefer X-T3 dials and menu but you can't have them in this price range.
I had a landscape photography business back in the 1990’s and into 2005. Back then I used Nikon 35 mm film cameras and lenses. I had a Nikon coolscan to digitize my images so I could make adjustments in Photoshop. I’m retired now. I just received my Fuji XT30 with the 18-55 2.8 lens. I did a lot of research and for me and my budget, I think I made the right choice. I’m busy learning and making adjustments in the various menus and I plan on heading out for some street photography to get used to the camera. As the weather in the Pacific Northwest gets better I’ll venture out in the hills. Thanks to DP Review and a bunch of other reviewers for helping me with my research.
I ended up picking up an almost new Nikon D500 at just over $1000. I upgraded from a Konica Minolta Dimage A2 I bought around 2004...so it was a long overdue upgrade. To say I was blown away by the D500 would be an understatement.
@@DanC Yes, it is very fast and it seems like an amazing camera. I like that there are tons of affordable lenses too. I'm going to rent the Nikkor 200-500mm to go birding soon and see what this thing can really do!

I went Panasonic for video. It happened before Nikon released the Z50. Had they released it earlier... I would've saved a lot of money and gone with it.
@@unbroken1010 he said g85 not gx85. I have both and the g85 evf is excellent, no issues but I am spoiled by the higher 3.6 million dot evf on my g9, but the g85 evf is still perfectly fine. The gx85 is the evf you're thinking of, that one is not so great but if you think the evf on the gx85 is bad, try a gm5! Now that's a terrible evf!
I'd recommend the g85 also. Excellent camera overall, a true mini gh4 with ibis, excellent ibis by the way, and still have money left over for one or two lenses. Gx85 also good and sometimes can be found in a kit when on sale for $500 with the 12-32 and 45-150 kit lenses, not bad for the price of you can deal with it's evf.
The GX-85 kits are a great bargain, but the viewfinder is poor. However, I do like the kit lenses, 12-32 (which I can put in a shirt pocket) and the 45-150, which comes with a sun shade. I use them on my M-10 III. The GX-85 with the Olympus 17 mm f/1.8 is a great walking around camera. Pop out the LCD to 90 degrees and use it like a TLR.
I think some extra credit goes to Jordan for being able to make the Pentax video usable with lights an audio. Also having done the "budget video kit" myself out of necessity I found that good audio will make or break your footage, and in camera mics will never be enough so both cameras chosen lose if a breeze comes along. You need to budget lower so you can throw in an audio solution to pair with your camera (like Jordan did with a second lens for low light).
E-M10 IV is a good choice! The GX9 also has 5-axis IBIS by the way. I've seen the G9 for under 1000 US equiv. so Chris could've got it plus the Lumix 25mm f1.7! 😁
Have to say for probably 99% of the viewing public (including myself) the video from the Pentax was perfectly fine. I was watching on a 55" 4k tv and it looked great to me. As for a camera under 1k USD I would go with the Canon M6 MKII.
Jordan: saw the Vic Firth drumsticks. Saw him play with the Boston Symphony for several years. He was brilliant. Now for the cameras; I think you both made a great choice.
You guys really helped, there were so many I was looking at but kept going over budget when adding a lens. The winner winner chicken dinner is the Olympus! 🥳
Similar budget a year back and I also ran with the Fuji X-T30, premium sensor, same as X-T4 and similar features but half the price and weight. It will be interesting to see what you guys would get for $2000 and then for $5000...
I would definitely go with the Olympus EM10MK 4! and instead of the Pana 25 1.7, I would grab the 45 1.8, which is an awesome portrait lens (also for 199,-)! good idea this kind of comparison! like your channel a lot!
My pick would be the Lumix LX100II, great colors, 4k, super fast zoom lens and a true joy to use. Most under-reviewed camera on YT, but a great creative tool.
I got my Panasonic G9 for only 800... watch for Panasonic regular promotions. Best camera ever in 30 years of photography (including Canon full frames, Minolta film AF cameras... etc)
The XT30 is smart choice. Its the same sensor as the higher model, just less features but also smaller. I bought the same kit for around 800+ after tax totally worth it, if you have other lens from Fuji. It is pretty much a X100V with slight difference.
I'd be interested too but buying used is so time/situation/geography dependent the $1000 limit is almost meaningless. I could see it working if they use a major used equipment vendor that offers a warranty such as keh; at least then other folks could use the information to buy the same kit..... But given dpreview is an amazon property there would be little incentive for them to do it even if it has more "real world" relevance.
I got myself a Sony A6400 with a sigma 56mm f1.4 prime lens and its been over a year now. I particularly chose Sony APSC system since it has awesome lenses from Sigma and Tamron as well as some from Sony. I don't think you need to worry about the lens for your specific requirement if you go for sony APSC. The sigma primes 16,30,56 and the sigma 18-50 F2.8, Tamron 17-70 f2.8 the sony 11mm f1.8 Sony 70-350 all cater to a wide variety of needs. Hoping to see much more reveals. Besides sony works well for both photo and video. If on a tighter budget I would choose the A6100 as the body as its pretty much equivalent to the A6400
For a bit over 1000 dollars, I have a nikon d300, a nikon d3500, a soligor 35-200, a Tamron 28-80, a nikon 35mm 1.8, a yongnuo 50mm 1.8, and a Tamron 70-300. All bought used from reputable sellers, and some from a friend. Not to mention a full sized tripod, small camera bag, a battery grip, SD cards, batteries, and a reflector/diffuser And that's why idk if I'll ever buy anything new
If you shop around, you can get the Z50 with the two Nikon DX crop zooms in a kit for under $1000. That's a pretty great deal tbh, since those lenses are some of the best kit zooms out there, together cover everything from 24-375mm with image stabilization, and are small and compact so you're more likely to bring them with you (sub $1000 is entry level budget-wise, so for many it would be competing with "I'll just bring my smart phone today" for backpack space). Obviously everyone has different priorities and preferences, and for somebody who knows they prefer primes or a certain brand or full-frame or what have you, they probably already know exactly what they want. But if not, or for somebody looking for an up-to-date mirrorless camera or the best Nikon F lens compatibility of any mirrorless system, this is a pretty cool option.
I would buy the first open-box X-S10 XF18-55 kit that popped up if I wanted to maximize features. However, I bought an open-box, zero shots on the clock, X-E3 XF18-55 kit for $599 2 months ago and it would absolutely be my top recommendation for anyone buying either their first camera or a second camera to compliment their main rig. I also bought an X-S10 body-only when that launched, and I already have an X-T4 and a Fuji’s 1.4 Prime trio for work, but I picked up the XF27 on closeout for $250 when the gen 2 launched and an XC15-45 for $170 used from mbp and those two lenses and my X-E3 are what I reach for 90% of the time now. It makes for such a lightweight and pocketable kit and the photo AND video results are nothing short of fantastic. I can even fit that trio along with my DJI RSC 2 into a shoulder sling and be ready for anything while traveling incredibly light.
@@unbroken1010 Of course but also not really. If I could just have one fast prime lens a 20mm is not so wide that faces look weird when I come close or that I have to crop in too much when I can’t, let’s say get the reach of a 25mm or 30mm. But it is wide enough to still have some slight three-dimensionally. I know these are somewhat different disciplines But what I’ve learned the past three years shooting short film with a 25mm as my got to lens is that it’s more like a really short telephoto lens. It has no three-dimensionally anymore. So yes while it’s true that it’s perspective distortion is very close to that of the human eye, it won’t give you the slight separation we perceive. There’s a good reason why 20mm is the go to choice for many cinematographers and why 1917 was shot almost exclusively on it.
@@unbroken1010 You know I’ve been talking micro four thirds here. I‘m saying a 40mm full frame equivalent and you can do portraits with that no problem. Maybe you have to step back and crop in a little of you want the flatness. And who said you have to shoot portraits on long lenses anyways. Not everybody looks good with their face smooshed together and it looses a lot of its intimacy the longer you get. Again if I could only have one fast prime. 40mm on a full frame sensor is my choice.
@@VariTimo yeah I get that. But I was still think you going to get some distortion based on the lens build. The konica hexagon 40mm is a great lens on off. Also the 45 mm minolta. . I'm liking 35 mm field of view too.
All good choices, but personally I would buy used for a budget of $800 CAD (including lens): Used Sony a6100 + 18-55mm kit lens = $800 CAD or $600 USD. Or used GH4 + kit lens for $650 CAD or $500 USD.
I upgraded my setup from an M4/3 camera to a Canon M6 ii (kit lens and viewfinder are ~1,000) and I'll never look back. The adapter to EF & EF-S is almost mandatory right now but it's a great camera that outputs amazing pictures (imho, obviously).
Olympus passes on the qualities of its previous generation to the next iteration of the model below it. the M-1 III is a small M-1X, the M-5 III is a less expensive M-1 II, and the M-10 IV is an M-5 II without weather sealing. I have an M-5 III and an M-10 III. What I love about the latter is the quick Advanced Photo options. I use Live Time frequently for photos of the Aurora Borealis. I can watch the image build up on the LCD screen and decide when to close the shutter. I also use the High Dynamic Range setting, which takes 4 quick photos and combines them in camera. Olympus IBIS (in body image stabilization) is fantastic, so I can do HDR hand held.
Love filmed on k-01.. mine with rokinon 85/1.4 is great.. but to correct the vid contents, for under 1k olympus is not the only choice for IBIS.. Pentax also does.. both Oly and Pentax are also weather sealed.
The difference between the kits at 1100-1400 makes going a little over budget so much more advantageous. Just spend the extra money people, though the X-T30 is a great little camera.
My budget was/is tooooo low! so i bought a stock Canon 100d/SL1/kissx7 for 1700 Turkish Lira /under 220 US bucks. And i have plan to buy a Canon 10-18mm lens in the next month. it is very hard to buy photography/filmmaking gears as a heart sick and refugee without any support. Thanks Chris and Jordan for make these good videos.
Jordan’s solution is excellent, but maybe I’m just a sucker for primes... Since in many ways cameras have passed sufficiency for a while, I wonder if you might try something similar but with the expansion into used market. Especially since we see the k-01 (9yrs old) doing so well in these videos...
It was last year a couple of times. I bought one with the 24-105 (the non L kit lens) for $999 new. Missed it the first time and decided to buy one the second as I'd never owned a FF camera. Canon is supposed to be coming out with a new budget FF body for under $1000 US sometime soonish.
Hi Modgil P here. I would go with EM10.4 too. I am saving money, in a couple of months I will order 10.4 and primes from camerastore as well. Z50, I do love that camera from what I have read/seen about it. Maybe if they add a lens or a third party adds the mount.
I would have gone with the Canon RP. Refurbished from Canon is $899 (US) and you can still get a lens. I would pair that up with the Canon RF 35 millimeter F 1.8 …..It's a full frame setup and good video capabilities…..
Is either choice a good LONG-term pick? Perhaps. $1000 was also my budget 2yrs ago when I decided to have another try with photography after 30yrs... not knowing if I would stick with it this time. $1000 seemed like enough cash to buy a GOOD camera but not too much to lose if I lost interest and had to sell. My final decision was which model/brand I could grow with over a long time period IF, it turned out, I really enjoyed shooting. I felt Sony and Canon were the most innovative/feature-rich and would also be around for many years to come. I chose the Sony A6400 that Chris quickly glanced over. Was the best bang-for-the-buck at the time and I thought that the LARGE number of lens choices for native e-mount (and great 3rd party glass) would allow me to grow with camera in many directions. Now, in 2021, I would gladly make the same choice. :)
I bought myself an XT-20 on sale for 800 Canadian with a 16-45 kit lens, which I then sold for 250, and got a used 18-45 for $400. I then picked up the XC35mm f2 from fuji and a vintage 50mm and 70-210 lenses with an adapter, and that put me at about $1400 Canadian (1107 USD). I am beyond pleased with the route I took tbh, love the kit
With that money you can cover a large range shopping used. I only use Nikon, and here how it goes locally: D3400 + AF-P DX 18-55: $260 AF-P DX 70-300: $170 AF-P DX 10-20: $205 AF-S DX 35mm f/1.8G (new): $195 That's $830, which still leaves enough budget for a good tripod, a quick release plate, extra batteries, a good Sandisk SDXC card and still have enough money for filters or flash if needed.
Nikon d7200! 600 bucks, the best dynamic range this side of full frame, competent autofocus, plenty of affordable third-party lenses, and dual card slots.
Damn I was in this position last year. The EM10 Mark IV wasn't out yet and I almost bought the Mark III, but I went with the X-T30 because of the DPReview video lol
Did this already during black Friday and got the Canon RP with the 24-105 kit lens and a ring light for $999 at Best Buy. Pretty dang good deal if you ask me.
TBH, if I only had $1000, I would shop used...
This for sure, at least that’s my experience that you can get great deals on used gear and save a lot of $$$
Even with a bigger budget that can be a great option.

I shoot football and baseball with a Nikkor 400mm 3.5 ED IF Ai-S. Everything just "falls in" to focus, and it has the best manual focus of any lens ive used.
The world doesn't need to recover you did not need to be locked down they were unscientific lockdowns all Mayors and governors should be held accountable
Olympus and Pentax in the same video. YES!!!
You can get a used Olympus em1 m2 for $600. With the firmware update, it's got great auto focus. Also selfie screen and great ibis.
what about the mk3?
Personally I’d go Sony a6100 and Sigma 30mm 1.4, best bang for buck IMO. Sharp as all hell and it’s a nifty fifty on apsc (we’ll close enough)
Good choice. I like that it's slightly wider than 50 mm-e. I like this video idea.
You can get great prices on the a 6300 right now I've been looking a little bit better screen
@M Tech I think I can get an A 6300 for 5 or 6 used but the xt30 or the Xs 10 look like good options to
@Coo Koo it's a useless question we need to know what kind of Photography you want to pursue and do you have any other lenses it's a lot more factors that go into that question
The Olympus EM10MK 4 is a great choice 🤩
0:46 slapping the camera for a rolling shutter test... man I love Jordan
That's Jordan showing all his love for that camera..lol
@Coo Koo I would go for the S10. I haven’t tried it but the little i have seen about it is seems quite good.
Gx9 with the 12-32 kit lens and the lumix G ll Vario 100-300mm.
Comes in at around £1000.
Just realised I only have £740 to spend 😀
In that case the gx9 with 12-60 and use the change towards another lens.
I really like that they showed some cheaper and more expensive options. I'm sure that's helpful for people that aren't shopping for exactly $1000
I didn’t know they filmed “Clerks” in The Camera Store?!!
...keep up the great work gentlemen! Sincerely, the best review channel out there!!
Hi guy's.
Nice "real world" content guys. Watching this video was like being part of the discussion with some shutterbug friends. Well done.
If only the Z50 would have a small prime or two in its lineup, I would've bought one ages ago! Just went with the X-S10 instead.
Great episode!
I’m stuck between those two cameras right now. How is the video on the x-s10?
Great twist with Chris looking at the Z50 and saying "it's time to add to cart" at 3:35
Are you happy with x-s10? Im thinking z50 or x-s10.. i might mainly use it for portrait photos on instagram. Could you pick one for me?
I would have gone with the Nikon Z50. I owned one and it‘s just awesome what you can get out of the RAW files.
@M Tech yes in deed. That‘s why I upgraded to the Nikon Z6 II and the full frame sensor
EOS M6 Mark II. Imo the best value for the dollar at this pricepoint.
is it already under 1k?
@@gtaliano In Europe the kit was on sale for about 900€ in the christmas season.
@@Andi_R. I think I will eventually go to m6 mk2 from my t7i/800d. I would keep all my lenses and use an adaptor.
01:28 Jordan rocking that Lou Ferrigno Incredible Hulk hair.
These were the two I selected as well after weeks of doubt, decided for the XT-30. It has the bigger sensor and the retro design is gorgeous. A good looking camera you pick up more often I figured.
I recently bought a G90/G95 with a 12-60mm lens for 430 Euros BRAND NEW on sale from a local shop. Love it. Thank you for all the great videos guys!
For photography i would defenitly go with a Pentax K-70 with the 18-135mm lens. That's the only kit in that price range to feature: full wheater sealing, sharp zoom lens, good AF, great image quality and IBIS!
I will stick with my lovely Fujifilm XT20, because I do mostly photography
That young Chris/Jordan caught me off guard. 1mil sub special = return to those hairstyles? :)
Value for money crop sensors like M4/3 and Fuji are great! A range of tiny, dedicated primes for each and more than good enough image quality for most uses. Lovely choices.
The X-T30 is an amazing camera. Love that little thing.
Too bad it uses X-Trans.
😆 Too bad?
@@DriveCancelDC 😂
@@DriveCancelDCdon’t be an x-transphobe
@@turbochargedbrick lol. As a non fuji user I fear x-trans as an "unknown" as it has a rep to be harder to process in non-fuji apps such as Lightroom. Is this still an issue these days?
I got a new Fuji XE3 and 18-55 kit lense for $800 for my girlfriend for Christmas. Added the Fuji 55-200 for $350 to put it over the limit. It's amazing the quality you can get if you shop older models and sales.
Great video searching for an entry level camera. Both suggestions where good, but I will go with the Fuji.
Fuji makes up for shortcomings on an emotional basis. I just... like it
Never mind the 1080 - the imagery coming out of that Pentax is amazing. I just loved it.
Finally, the video I have been searching for 1 year
A few month ago I stood in front of the same challenge and also went for the X-T30. I have to say I'm totally in love with it. Even though I'm a beginner, I think I made the right choice.
Great video. I still want an X-S10! But I love the EM10 IV.
Honestly I would go with the Canon 24-105 f4 and a 5D Mk 2
Jordan goes Olympus, that is surprising.
Nikon Z50, with FTZ you can use a LOT of used great lens
I went through this last spring. I devoured DP review videos. I found a Panasonic G95 for $850 as an open box. It's been great, I love it! Now that being said, I kinda wished I spent a couple of hundred dollars more and bought the G9
I had a g95 and upgraded to the g9. There is not much of a difference. However the g95 has unlimited video and it's smaller. I do miss the g95
@@sdhute Is it a significant step up in size? At some point, I would like to get a GH5 for more serious filming. I would probably hang on to the G95 as travel camera and a B cam.
I'm a sucker for M43 due to the size
I'm still using my G85 and GX85 combo with a bunch of lenses. I'd love the G9, but I'd love the $999 USD (on sale) in my bank account more.
March 2021: E-M1 mk2 is in sell off, mostly for around 700 USD body only, for the money a no brainer
Well I bought the fuji x-t20 for 700€ two years ago with the 18-55mm 2.8-4.0 kit lens
Does the EM10IV have a headphone jack? I believe previous ones didn't. Wouldn't that make it a deal breaker for most video oriented uses?
Great video!
I see that someone already requested this for $2,000 and $3,000, but I'd vote for a $1,500 episode as well.
The xe4 is less than 1000 right now where
For all the negativity m43rds gets, you still get a lot for your money and my em10 is the camera i nearly always have on me cos its so small and light.
For them, it's business and a money maker. A lot of them change brands like I change socks. Well, almost. And they just about unanimously pan anything M43. They pull out their magnifying glasses, blow up images 1000% to prove their point on the inferiority of M43.
The top selling lens mount in Japan? M43.
Jordan and Chris have always been fairly level headed in their reviews. I like that. Others? I watch for entertainment and take what they say with a "mountain" of salt.
@@des4719 it's true. But it's a business for them and a source of income. Are there benefits to full frame? Yes! Are there benefits to M43? Yes! No way I could have taken a FF camera to Uganda in my backpack with lenses. Everything was carry-on including extra sneakers and clothes along with the G9 and 3 lenses.
I would probably go zv1 for video.
Better auto focus, stabilization, built in nd , flippy screen, and over all better image quality
Better image quality vs which camera? I would really like to know your comparison facts
I ended up picking up an almost new Nikon D500 at just over $1000. I upgraded from a Konica Minolta Dimage A2 I bought around 2004...so it was a long overdue upgrade. To say I was blown away by the D500 would be an understatement.
I have yet to use a camera from Nikon or any manufacture that felt as "snappy" as the D500.
@@DanC Yes, it is very fast and it seems like an amazing camera. I like that there are tons of affordable lenses too. I'm going to rent the Nikkor 200-500mm to go birding soon and see what this thing can really do!
Poster for Kieslowski Red almost made me cry. His trilogy Three Colours for me is one of the best trilogys ever. Watch Red, White and Blue, you'll be awestruck by superb craftsmanship of Kieslowski.
got the Nikon Z50 after spending long hours on reviews. went to a local store and tried it. honestly its a brilliant little camera.
Being that I have a lot of F-mount lenses with my D7200, I've considered a Z50 with a FTZ adapter. Since I still have the D7200 and D3300 in my "collection"... I've balked. I went Panasonic for video. It happened before Nikon released the Z50. Had they released it earlier... I would've saved a lot of money and gone with it.
For video, I would find a g85, and some lenses, and add a cheap wired lav mic.
The vf was not do good. That's the only reason why I don't consider it
@@unbroken1010 he said g85 not gx85.
@@ToolCraze maybe but the gm5 is great for street. I think one of the Olympus has no crop 4K might be good often
I realize that the lighting set up helps a great deal, but the video coming out of that Pentax K-01 is pretty good for a 10 year-old camera.
E-M10 IV is a good choice! The GX9 also has 5-axis IBIS by the way. I've seen the G9 for under 1000 US equiv. so Chris could've got it plus the Lumix 25mm f1.7! 😁
Ibis in Olympus is unmatched for handheld shots at low shutter speeds
Have to say for probably 99% of the viewing public (including myself) the video from the Pentax was perfectly fine. I was watching on a 55" 4k tv and it looked great to me. As for a camera under 1k USD I would go with the Canon M6 MKII.
Love you guys, keep up the good stuff. I always trust your opinions :) Hello from Manchester, England!
Jordan: saw the Vic Firth drumsticks. Saw him play with the Boston Symphony for several years. He was brilliant. Now for the cameras; I think you both made a great choice.
Canon EOS RP can be also be a good option with the full frame capability and with the r-mount to ef-mount adapter,it is quite a good deal
I just got a Sony a6400 with Sigma 30mm 1.4....its just awessssome..😍😍😍😍😍😍
You guys really helped, there were so many I was looking at but kept going over budget when adding a lens. The winner winner chicken dinner is the Olympus! 🥳
Similar budget a year back and I also ran with the Fuji X-T30, premium sensor, same as X-T4 and similar features but half the price and weight. It will be interesting to see what you guys would get for $2000 and then for $5000...
Every day I feel better and better for choosing the XT30, can’t wait to get it
I would definitely go with the Olympus EM10MK 4! and instead of the Pana 25 1.7, I would grab the 45 1.8, which is an awesome portrait lens (also for 199,-)! good idea this kind of comparison! like your channel a lot!
My pick would be the Lumix LX100II, great colors, 4k, super fast zoom lens and a true joy to use. Most under-reviewed camera on YT, but a great creative tool.
I got my Panasonic G9 for only 800... watch for Panasonic regular promotions. Best camera ever in 30 years of photography (including Canon full frames, Minolta film AF cameras... etc)
I went with the canon M50, Viltrox speed booster, and EF (Nifty) 50 1.8
The XT30 is smart choice. Its the same sensor as the higher model, just less features but also smaller. I bought the same kit for around 800+ after tax totally worth it, if you have other lens from Fuji. It is pretty much a X100V with slight difference.
Definitely do this in a series of $1000 intervals. Thanks for the input, guys.
Would be interesting to see this same challenge done with used gear.
If on a tighter budget I would choose the A6100 as the body as its pretty much equivalent to the A6400
I'd love to see an episode looking at the best used camera options for similar prices.
Personally using a Fuji XT30, and loving it ☺️
Love this episode. Can you please make a similar one for
For a bit over 1000 dollars, I have a nikon d300, a nikon d3500, a soligor 35-200, a Tamron 28-80, a nikon 35mm 1.8, a yongnuo 50mm 1.8, and a Tamron 70-300.
All bought used from reputable sellers, and some from a friend.
Not to mention a full sized tripod, small camera bag, a battery grip, SD cards, batteries, and a reflector/diffuser
And that's why idk if I'll ever buy anything new
If you shop around, you can get the Z50 with the two Nikon DX crop zooms in a kit for under $1000.
I’d go with the 20mm f1.7 for the Olympus. It’s just a more versatile focal length.
It depends what you're photographing
@@VariTimo Maybe my 20 mm Pentax is a great lens but I would never use it for portraits
I got a X-H1 (used in mint cond.) for $600 at Camera Kitamura in Japan.
4K + IBIS included! @6:44
All good choices, but personally I would buy used for a budget of $800 CAD (including lens): Used Sony a6100 + 18-55mm kit lens = $800 CAD or $600 USD. Or used GH4 + kit lens for $650 CAD or $500 USD.
yes there is much support for Nikon apsc it is called FTZ adapter.
I’m in between those 2 as it fits my budget! Thanks for the video
I upgraded my setup from an M4/3 camera to a Canon M6 ii (kit lens and viewfinder are ~1,000) and I'll never look back. The adapter to EF & EF-S is almost mandatory right now but it's a great camera that outputs amazing pictures (imho, obviously).
More like downgraded since your M6 II has less DR than the G9. What do you look forward to inside the dead end M system?
These intros are great. Keep them coming.
The difference between the kits at 1100-1400 makes going a little over budget so much more advantageous. Just spend the extra money people, though the X-T30 is a great little camera.
$400 is more than a little over budget
The stark difference between the definition of little is almost comical.
Isn't a Canon RP available with a lens for under $1k USD? Maybe during one of the seasonal sales.
I also saw on amazon brand new Sony A7 mk1 with kit lens for 1004€
But I don't think photo retailers still hang on to these
it is $1000 without a lens
I only use Nikon, and here how it goes locally:
D3400 + AF-P DX 18-55: $260
AF-P DX 70-300: $170
AF-P DX 10-20: $205
AF-S DX 35mm f/1.8G (new): $195
That's $830, which still leaves enough budget for a good tripod, a quick release plate, extra batteries, a good Sandisk SDXC card and still have enough money for filters or flash if needed.
