    The top 50 statement is crazy Garnt must've had his laces undone cause he was trippin when he said that it isn't at least top 50. I'd argue Bleach is the most influential of the big 3 when looking at a lot of new gen series being put out and adapted. Bleach is like the style over substance type of person you knew in school that was always the cool kid and then you get out of school and realize oh shit this guy had a personality that whole time and he's pretty chill, man I was too harsh on you type beat

      @@Ash_Wen-li I have also watched hundreds of animes, and I can say without bias its a top 50 anime but probably not a top 10. Its hard to rate this stuff as it very subjective from person to person and what type of an story a person might like, etc. However out of the big 3 Bleach is the most unique out of them and is well know for its story twist, character design/artstyle, etc. I would bet Garnt would probably have put One piece in top 50 mainly due to nostalgia factors rather than objectively looking at it from a critical eye.

      @WieldMyWord 7 месяцев назад

      @@crobeastness The issue with movies alone is that its so little time to develop care or interest for characters, world building, story, etc. Its why tv shows is more preferable, just take Game of thrones as an example that made it more popular in the west. So movies I would put in seperated category since its unfair comparison, and a lot of movies are fillers or side content supplementary (aot final chapter, jjk 0, etc).
      However if we are mentioning just animation alone then 90s animes would crush a lot of modern animes in terms of animation, esthetique. Just search up "Memories 1995 " which is the most sakuga intense anime you will ever find, they had even Satoshi kon (legendary film director) on episode 1 script alone with a cast full of veterans and top animators at the time.

    i think the fact that Bleach TYBW is ranked so high on multiple lists alone speaks for itself on high good/popular the show is. As you guys said, you need to watch all 366 episodes (minus filler of course) or read 54 volumes of manga to understand what this arc is all about, which means that the show is still so popular to get so high on the list.

    • @WieldMyWord
      @WieldMyWord 7 месяцев назад +34

      They are overracting when it comes to Bleach being too long, its the shortest story out of the big 3 with just about 200 anime canon episode + Tybw (52). If you read the manga its even faster and is the ideal way to catch up to TYBW anime (tailored with the manga in mind) and continue on from there with the anime. I think their main issue is actually the filler and waiting weekly for content back then which is not a problem today. The fact bleach is a long show is an advantage too because you can get more invested with the characters and take time with developing the story which a lot of new animes today struggle with.

And the only thing that happens in that time period is battles and Mayuri and Urahara technobabbling about how they got their bankais back. The TYBW in total is as long as Wano and Whole cake island combined. And over 80% of the chapters are battles between characters that ultimately have no meaningful impact on the plot whatsoever.

      It’s less the overall moment to moment animation, which isn’t to say on par with Demon Slayer or something as unfairly extreme, but more so the art style and visual presentation.
      It took the mythical/spiritual side of what it already had mixed with the street life sort of aesthetic, and dialed it up to 11 in the details in a way that was apparently supposed to better replicate the source material without going full black and white.
      It also goes very well with the darker setting caused by the imperial curtain of the hidden Quincy empire, which is made even more clear with the music (again, the imperial influence early 20th century Germany).

      That comes with all anime, but I agree. Given that it was over a decade ago Garnt, and Joey saw or read Bleach it seems they have very little clue about the show. Nowadays you can skip fillers which solves most of the complaints they have with the pacing, and the canon material never drops below 2 chapters on average per episode. The manga doesn't take that long to read through since its less textual and they didn't need to wait weekly back then.

    One of the OG fans of Bleach here who watched Bleach on weekends on Animax and then completed the entire manga during board exams. As much as it is an integral part of my teenage years, Bleach did feel like an entirely diferent anime when considering hollows. At the start of the series, they were shown to be a natural calamity or a force of nature that not an individual soul reaper or a quincy could handle. They became fodder very early on in the series. And in the original manga, their role almost diminished to trivial.
    PS Why is it a shocker for Bleach to be at No 6? The way you judge a shonen is mostly the hype and fight sequences but Bleach is one of the OG 3 OF ALL TIME, that influenced anime culture, and fashion too.

      I mean weekly manga is a hazard for any mangaka, even Oda is struggling nowadays with keeping track of his stuff without resulting to retconning, and his art has declined a lot compared to his early days. I agree Kubo is a better writer than some people make him out to be, he made some of the biggest plot twist in anime and his work has a lot of symbolism. If he continues the manga again he should go bi-weekly instead and there are some news he working on a manga (its uncertain what it is). The advantage of doing weekly is that you can bring out a lot of content to get the story out there, taking too long would end up like how HxH is now and the manga will never finish or what sadly happened with Berserk.

    Personally Bleach is one of my top series. The music, the animation, and the story hooked me from the beginning and I found it more intriguing than most other series. I also find the lore of the world more interesting than most other series at the time and there's a fine blend of visual storytelling as well as written and that written information can't always be trusted. I personally found the Bleach power system more interesting than the nin system despite having similarities. I also love how true power for our main character comes from Ichigo understanding himself and acceptance vs pumping weights or some insane training arc. This feels more prevalent since the 1st arc, Ichigo has struggled with the loss of his mother which has caused him to have 2 major personality flaws; feeling the need to shoulder the burden when it comes to saving his friends and lack of trust in his comrades. For someone who has his own personal issues that I've struggled with; I genuinely fell in love with the character and feel that those who have read Bleach once should try again with a fresh pair of eyes cause you'll find more with previous knowledge hidden underneath the surface. Also I find the lore intriguing; especially with what we will learn soon of the Soul King.

    Tldr: if you watched bleach and felt the same or similar to how Joey and Garnt felt about bleach like me? cut the filler and re-watch Bleach. The filler killed the show actually.
    I can without a doubt honestly say I agreed with Joey and Garnt's sentiment about Bleach...having a fragmented recollection of what Bleach was like. Until I re-watched Bleach for a refresh so I could watch TYBW. I cut out all the filler and only watched canon episodes. And you know what? I loved it, The characters and writing are fantastic. With its Characters, it's not so in your face about what's actually going on, more to do with subtext. And the fast pacing, the show is just go go go.
    Out of all the Canon episodes i watched, there really was only 1 arc (and only part of it) where i felt. "okay, get on with it." and that was the first few fights in the Fake Karakura Town, I Felt those parts were drawn out a bit too much. But for just a small handful out of 200 episodes? That's not bad.
    Then I caught up and have now watched TYBW Cour 1 and 2. And Bleach actually is Better Than Ever. The animation, oh my goodness, the animation, story, and blisteringly fast paced mayhem. is it perfect? no, But its pretty dang close imo.
    After reflecting on my previous thoughts about it having good arcs and bad arcs, and weird pacing to today? I think my original problems actually just stemmed from the absurd amount of filler I sat through. It's no wonder I mentally checked out the first time I watched it. Stuff would be getting really good, only to suddenly have to sit through 40+ episodes of bad to subpar but never great filler. So it just drained my interest in what was going on, and that happens multiple times through out the show. I re-watched bleach for a refresher and cut out the filler. Thought it was just going to be okay like how I originally thought. And I don't know if its just because I'm older now and can understand the subtext of its characters and story better, or because I don't really watch shonen much these days, or just a little bit of nostalgia. Maybe it was a combination of all 3 and just really good timing? Now days, I can full heartedly say, Bleach is my favourite shonen anime. It was such a blast watching this anime.
    * **vague TYBW spoilers ahead** *
    I think a certain someone should have stayed💀but thats just me. I wont elaborate on that.

    as far as shonen goes bleach is definetly up there. In terms of character design it´s easily the best. All the charaxters just look really cool and for the anime the soundtrack was easily goated.
    as far as story goes it´s kinda mid, but the way kubo set up things and did pay them off in that last arc was really great. In all honesty i do think it deserves to be at least in the Top 10, its better than naruto and while its worldbuilding cannot hold a candle to one piece aside from that personally i enjoyed bleach a lot more than one piece

    • @WieldMyWord
      @WieldMyWord 7 месяцев назад +1

      I think that worldbuilding aspect is kinda misjudged when it comes to Bleach, yes it has basic real world setting, but it has uniquely stuff different from anything else. Like hueco mundo is a sci-fi planet with its own ecosystem of living conditions and the fact they can travel between these dimensional passages through garganta is kinda unique. The fact there are rules in how shinigamis operates in the human world and how they conduct themselves is pretty well made. In the case of One piece while its rich of stuff in it (the show is one of the longest running show), its concepts are derived heavily from real world stuff and very basic fairytale stories which isn't that out of the ordinary conceptually. From a realism perspective One piece makes very little sense in how they can have all these technological stuff in an setting where they use basic stuff like fleets and unconventional methods when they have access to modern day technology.

    I kinda feel the same with one piece. At this point I’m just watching just to finish it despite me feeling like it’s not always good or worth it. I wonder if they were to remake bleach and fix the pacing/cut out the filler, (like dbzkai, fmab, the new one piece announced) how it would be received.

    Bleach really has 5 proper arcs which are Substitute Shinigami, Soul Society, Arrancar, Fullbring and TYBW. I argue nearly every arc is an easy 7.5/10 minimum and are consistently engaging with very few bad moments.

      You’re projecting your delusion. Bleach is no longer any type of punching bag, It’s 2024, not mid-late 2010s. if anything that would be Naruto nowadays unfortunately, mainly thanks to Boruto. Anyways only OP stans or Bleach haters would say OP is “objectively better”, not the casual and general masses as there is no consensus as it differs from person to person but if you break it down critically, Bleach is overall better, especially anime wise than any of those arcs you can name.

    I like Bleach but there are big problems, It would work better if trimmed of filler and maybe some extraneous stuff, I preferred the Manga as it was trimmer, hueco mundo could have done with maybe tightening the pacing.
    I think with all of these manga to anime suffer from running together, really a story is better finished before being made for tv/ film. This is not just anime. I think it becomes rushed and pressured
    Personally some of my favourite anime/ are short or light novel adaptations between 12 and 25 episodes with a complete story. You could even do this then and a second story with the same world

    Every Uryu scene in cour 1 except the hollow fight at the start and him showing up at the end wasn't in the manga, cour 2 has a bankai that din't show up in the manga and half the final fight of the cour was not a thing in the manga.
