Nice catch dude! I am green again. I either lose the fish with those barbless jigs or usually get snagged and lose the jig, ha! I think I lost 3 jigs today. You must buy cases of those bad boys. I love your videos man. They keep me hopeful for the big browns and rainbows.
I typically get through a day with a single jig, maybe two. I have tons of hours of practice though. The hardest way to fish them without getting snagged is fishing deep like I did here. Just keep fishing and you will lose less as time goes on. When fishing deep with the current coming at you, you pretty much need to have your bail closed and your reel winding by the time your jig hits the water. Fast action! I had to use 2 jigs this day only because the first one started to fall apart. Keep at it, you'll get there.
The skunk alert was on before I went up to check out the W and E Carson. Went anyway if for nothing else but to check out the fall colors before the bad weather before the weekend. Nice Bow. You worked hard for it.
Sounds like a nice day to say the least. I'm into the drop in temps. The fishing should start getting good in the lakes and reservoirs once they turn over. I wasn't getting a whole lot of action but I went down deep and managed to get that one so all was good.
I have driven by that area a million times and always wondered how the fishing might be. Now I know. Thanks. I might have to stop and stretch my worm on the way to Reno next time.
Hey Armani been a while since I watched your videos been working a lot and been super stressed out but at least now I have plenty of videos to binge watch haha nice views and nicer fish 😎
I went full throttle on loading up my backcountry hiking and fishing playlists this Summer/Fall. It nearly broke me but that was a goal I wanted to achieve. There is a ton of content for you to watch if you are interested. You are always welcome here.
That fish was down deep. I ran my jig through shallow several times but that fish wasn't going out of it's way to get anything. I had to go down and get it.
One good fish is often the way it goes when I'm fishing jigs. When the flow is up and you get a good rainbow on light tackle it always puts me to the test. I love it!
The flow out of Lake Tahoe becomes the Truckee river. At the moment, that initial portion of the Truckee is a trickle - 20cfs. Downstream, the flow becomes 300cfs due to Boca Reservoir. Boca is running very, very low... but they are still, for now, releasing water out of the dam which is what creates all that flow you see in the clip. In short, it means about 6-7 miles of the Truckee river (i.e. below Boca) is fishable in CA right now. The river then crosses into Nevada on its way to Pyramid Lake (NV). Hope that helps a bit.
Weird I recognize that spot almost 25 years ago when I was kid my parents pulled into that same area under that bridge I had a fishing pole with me and I caught a catfish down there last thing I was expecting. There was snow on the ground at the time.
Boca River? Do you mean the outflow from Boca Reservoir? Maybe Boca's inflow creek? There could be Kokanee spawning in an inflow creek, I've seen that in a creek flowing into Eagle Lake, very cool, big(for kokes)red hookjaw Kokanee.
Right on. If that was the Little Truckee flowing into Boca I actually have hit that type of moment before. I have a clip on my "fishing in rivers" playlist from a couple years ago where I catch a bunch of them. Real cool thing to encounter. I should have drove up and looked since I was fishing the Truckee just below Boca the day before.
I don't like heights! There was about 50 yards of climbing over large, leg snapping boulders after that rocky edge but once I got past that it was mostly fighting through brush. There was no easy path. The other side looked like an easier path. Next time.
Different sections have different regulations so checking the guide before you head out is always a good idea. In this section below Prosser Creek confluence it calls for artificial only until Nov 15th. After Nov 15th, it switches to artificial/barbless until the start of the traditional trout season last Sat in April. Personally, I keep my jigs barbless in rivers year round to keep from damaging the fish. I like to release everything I catch in rivers these days. I get plenty of trout to eat out of lakes and reservoirs while bait fishing during the colder months.
I'm not sure why that would be. I haven't seen the two diversion dams, one just before the State Line and the other just beyond it, so that might be some of the reason. There are also a couple of diversion dams upstream from Mayberry park. Near Cabela's a lot of the flow is channeled into a canal below the diversion dam there. Upstream at the Truckee River Regional park it was really low so I don't know the dynamics behind that either. All I know is the river looked great off the Hirschdale and Floriston exits so that's where I went.
To be honest Amani, you're the only guy on youtube who makes me excited when I see you post. A genuine dude fishing! Keep it up
I really like this guy. His hike up Lassen Volcano was a very interesting and engaging watch, mostly because Amani is Amani.
Thank you. Glad you enjoy the content.
What you get here is the real me!
Nice catch dude!

Thanks for the advice!
Appreciated it.

@@wildernesswithamani1027 Yep. Lake season. For me ICR, Topaz and the 88 lakes until they freeze.

I have found that the fishing is good in almost every stretch along the 80. You just have to find one willing to hit!
😮amazing!! you’re the 💣 bomb!!
Thanks. I always have a great time when I'm out fishing a river.

@@wildernesswithamani1027 thanks I’m definitely going to catch up on some this weekend, stay safe dude 🤝
thanks for the video. That was a nice rainbow. Regarding skinning cats, well I have skinned two in my life in anatomy class.
If you skinned two then you had a chance to do it in more than one way!
Really nice !
Yeah, I wanted that fish in the net bad once I saw it.
Very nice bow for all your hard work.

@@wildernesswithamani1027 You sure know how to get em.
Great catch, Amani! You rock!
Thanks. When the current is swift like it is those big rainbows on light tackle can be a stressful situation!
Thanks Amani
You are welcome. Always glad to bring a morning on the river to you.
You've been pulling some great fish out of the Truckee the last week Amani. Thanks for the awesome content!

Nice rainbow
Where does all that water come from is it Lake Tahoe
was wondering the same thing.
@@markvanderstelt8999 yes lake tahoe and a few feeder creeks.

I know a lot comes from Tahoe. I would need to look at a map to understand why the river was so low at the Truckee River Regional Park.

Now that is reaching way back for a sweet memory! I remember stuff like that when I was a kid myself. Memory burn!
I just left boca river and there are hundreds of salmon schooled up. You should check it out brother

Umm.. I meant Claire Engle Lake on the Trinity River, CA, not Eagle Lake, sorry🙃

Amani great video. You're part billy goat to get to those spots.
Thank you. There was quite a bit of climbing around on this day to be sure!

Better you vs me on that rocky edge.

is it just barbless in the truckee river?

I wonder why the flow is much better at floristian vs Mayberry park.
