- Are you thinking about becoming a plumber? This video might help give you some insight from a plumber's point of view. Deciding to become a plumber was the best decision I've ever made and I don't regret one minute of it. Joining the trades has opened so many doors for me and working had as a plumber has allowed me to open my own company that I am so proud of!
Hopefully this video finds its way to someone who is considering becoming a plumber and helps them make a good decision.

I do agree with 100% plumbing is a career not a job! one can be what ever one wants to be !
My buddy in high school was made fun of for saying he would become a plumber. He did and he has done real well for himself. Better than most kids that went to college.
Damn that sounds like me I graduated high school in 2019 and i told people that I was going to become a plumber they would laugh but now through COVID I got the last laugh. Plus since I’ve got here I’ve been getting taught on how to read the Blue Prints

@@greatnesspersonified4273 also been plumbing since 2019. My second year going to make 60k, maybe a little over in service plumbing. Still have 2 more years from journeyman wages which will probably be 85-95k and then it would probably be management to get another wage.

I’m 24 and work at McDonald’s. I’ve been struggling in what I want to do in life and been depressed because of it and I hate fast food but now I think I will really take plumbing into consideration.
@ThomsT It is a great career. Have you done anything like this before? I have some great apprentices that work for me and seem to love what they do.
Totally agree with the host. I’ve been making a kick ass living for 26 years and I love every day of it. I honestly don’t feel like i work a day of my life. People appreciate what plumbers can do and I enjoy being a hero every day. I have also made lifelong friends through my trade. It’s not glamorous and it’s not pretty at times but I’m sooooo very glad I stumbled across this trade. Good luck. Work hard and learn from the experienced guys. The first six months or so are the tough times. You will want to quit and you will be tired. Then, things will click and off you go.
T Daddy you are completely right. It’s hard in the beginning because you don’t know what you are doing. After that it really starts getting fun.

Been plumbing my whole life basically. But started hitting it hard when I was 16 My dad has a company. I’m 19 now. It’s been a good job and I could see myself doing it the rest of my life. To other people my age I recommend doing it if you are thinking about it. It takes a long time to learn it. Once you learn it Your gonna be unstoppable
Reese Wilson I agree. I wish I would have had the study guides to help it make sense. That is why I tell people about them. I think if they can see it and picture it in their head they will learn it quicker then they can make more money!

ImGRIM there are many trades and careers that you can enjoy and live a comfortable life with. Do something that you enjoy. I’ve been plumbing for 38 years and I still love it! Good luck!
I had a opportunity to start plumbing right out of high school, turned it down thought I was to good for it, it was the biggest mistake ever, 6 years later I took up plumbing and it’s been the best decision of my life! I regret not starting right out of high school I’m 4 years in and still loving it! It’s a great trade and life skills to have! Just my advice don’t be indecisive like Nike says “just do it”
Take it from us ,you'll want to pick a trade and learn it well, plumbing, electrical or HVAC those are all good paying trades that will be around forever

@@a2j2023 The plumbing company near me that I wanted to apply to was paying too low plus the hours they wanted me to work didn’t work out with my schedule. I ended up in the aviation field, and become a mechanic in the next 6 months or so💰 definitely money in plumbing if you have the open schedule .

I'm a plumber and an electrician. Started as a plumber but since today there is a lot of electronics and automation I went to school to also learn how to work as an electrician. It did very well for me because I can build intelligent central heating systems more advanced than every plumber and electrician for that matter i know. Having both trades made me the highest earner in the company ( 2nd to my boss of course) and i get to do only the more cool, interesting and complicated staff. My advice for someone who wants to get into the trade is this, yes you can earn amazing money but you also have to be amazing at it. That only comes with experience, constant learning, hard work and a good amount of intelligence. Most plumbers i know earn good money but not amazing. It's sometimes a fiscally hard job, sometimes work conditions are hard but you are going to have so much satisfaction, plumber ( trade people in general) are awesome to work with and there is never a boring day, you do everyday something different and you are going to work in different places, with different people for different people. As you can probably understand i love this job

@@jayyv5059 I am still young, only 16 but yes I am aiming for it, shouldn’t be much schooling, I’m gonna try to get into a trade school as soon as I can.
It’s awesome. It can be alot of hard work ALOT of the time but i see other trades work alot harder considering the material they use. Besides a diamond is made under pressure as well so by doing the hard work now that you’re young, you’ll be building your way into being a foreman or owner of your own company when you get older.
Don’t let anyone fool you. This is a career and careers last a lifetime.

I am 35; a service plumber, and have been doing it about 5 year's now. I have always been mechanically inclined and picked up quickly. Being a hard worker and putting in the time on your own time to work on being better in your trade helps immensely. I did small arms and artillery repair in the military, and worked with my hands most of my life leading up to it. I fell into plumbing; which most people do. I got into this trade late in life at 30, but as long as you're a hard worker and use common sense you can move ahead in a timely manner. One of the drawbacks at least in service is you're done with the job is done, so your schedule is unpredictable, so it's hard to make plans.
Christopher I completely agree. Here is a link to the UPC Study Guide amzn.to/2RgYEn5. I recommend to start studying as soon as you get into your apprenticeship. It will set you apart from the rest of the apprentices. I also recommend this book to people studying for the Journeyman and Master exam here in Texas. I've been at it for about 12 years now, tried being a mechanic, worked in the service industry. But started plumbing because my girlfriend (now wife) got pregnant. Best decision I ever made. Proud of my work and make good money.

Just graduate from a plumbing pre-apprenticeship fast track in Toronto. I start my new job in two weeks. I’m very excited for my future and working towards getting my license.
This video is awesome. Really motivating! I was undecided in starting an electrician apprenticeship and plumbing apprenticeship. I got accepted into both programs but this made up my mind.

Im 19 an ive alway been good with my hands an a very hardworker i just didnt know what career i wanted to go into for the longest till i moved into a house that needed alot of work i knew the basics of plumbing so i pushed my self an replaced all the plumbing with pex an i enjoyed everything about it an it seemed easy to me so i want to make good money an enjoy what i do . I lost my job at a furniture warehouse March 26 because of the Coronavirus. I always wanted to get back into plumbing so I went to ask the only plumber I knew outside of the UA for advice, he hired me on the spot not two hours after I had been fired! Now I have more pay, better hours and the weekends off. Not to mention I am on my way to a better career with more opportunities instead of being stuck in a dead end job! Nice vid im actually going into plumbing and gas service technician program at my local trade school once covid blows over and going to work on big construction sites in the future can't wait just been working stacking boxes at local stores for past 3-4 years but now wanna start family so need serious job and plumbers working on construction sites where im at make pretty good money so can't wait.

Hey Guys my name is Cristian. I am 24 years old and im a plumber in Florida. I started making 100 a day as an apprentice working very hard,getting dirty and sometimes feeling like I had to work harder than what I was getting paid for. Now I am happy I gave it my all with pride in my work and now I make VERY good money to not brag. Don't feel embarrassed, just work hard and keep your head up. When I see people dressed nice and clean and start feeling down I just remind myself that I made their monthly paycheck in a couple days if not in just 1. Highly recommend this to anyone who is going or about to finish highschool.
I'm afraid cause I'm a slow learner, would it be hard for me though? I dont mind physical and hard work but the learning process is what bothers me.

@Sean L there are programs so check into them when you start looking at getting out. Helmets to Hardhats is one that I know of. Where do you call home?

Same but every one in the trades tell me it’s low paying and hard on your body. They tell me it’s better to be in AC and do something that won’t take a role on my body.

Starting an apprenticeship on Monday , was stuck in a deli for 8 years . Really nervous but I wanted to take a dive into a job I know there’s room to further succeed in with time .
How did it go?
Great video.I worked with my uncle for 6 months and I learned soo much. I was snaking drains, replacing toilets, sinks, water heaters, clean outs and sauntered pipes. Dirty job but really fulfilling. My uncle moved and I ended up moving and I went to school.

@@RogerWakefield yes I do but I miss working with my hands and the satisfaction of fixing things. Also being out side and driving to different jobs. I almost became a electrician as well I got accepted as a apprentice for DWP. I been MRI tech for 2 years and do love it but its more computers.

I just got my letter back from the United Association last week saying I’m on the list. I’m super excited to start this career. I know I can talk well with people, I listen well, and I work hard. I’m extremely excited to start this new chapter in my life.

Nice video! I'm going to Tri-County Vo-Tec school. I was told by my uncle that plumbing was a great career. I also plan to go into carpentry and metal fab, gonna be a real handy man.
Why not pick a specialty and focus on mastering it? Just curious... I would think a skilled tradesman could make more money than a Handy Man. How much school do you have left?
@@RogerWakefield Hah very true, I'm definately pursuing the plumbing buisness. Over the past week I've been trying to figure what offerings the school has. I found out that they cover just about everything in class and they're associated with the Union. I have i few family members in there so I'll have a job off the bat.

I’ve been working as a delivery / Med tech for a company maintaining and delivering bariatric beds and equipment to hospitals and at it for four years. As a blue collar guy I feel I’m looked down on and want to have a career where I can work for myself eventually and can have freedom enough to do my own thing, cuz once I learn how things are done I work best alone as I make my own system, but I can work with a team too. I like the idea of having money as well.
As an industrial maintenance mechanic we do it all, anything from troubleshooting a 480v system to plumbing in new waterlines, to troubleshooting and installing hydraulics, to welding and machining we do it all
I've worked in Logistics for the last 5 years. Mainly handle organizational stuff, but have started to really feel a sense of burnout and lack of pride in my work. I don't have any knowledge of tools, but I also am not afraid to get dirty (spend a lot of time crawling through/under dusty old racks to retrieve missing product for inventory counts). Would this be a good fit? I'm also 28, if that matters.
This video made me consider this career path. I've been stressing on what career path to take once I get out the army, I'll be 24 when my contract is over. I have a question tho, is this career difficult to learn?

They said most of my work would be snaking drains, 2 weeks training with someone then I am on my own, am I getting tossed around here? Is snaking drains really considered being a plumber? I know you have to start somewhere. I just don't want to be snaking drains for the rest of my career, I want more complicated tasks. Also getting paid on commission is that normal?
Hello, I’m 31 years old and thinking of getting into plumbing. My main question is where do I start? I’m completely new to this kind of work and am looking for some advice. Thanks in advance if you can help.
I'm a 19-year-old high school graduate, and have been more interested in finding a trade than going to college, and my main focus lately has been plumbing. There's a problem for me though, and it's math. I have always struggled with math and understand that math will be needed when it comes to plumbing. This has been a big concern for me but I'm interested in learning how to do this.
+Myers31 math in general can get tough. There are great calculators made just for plumbing/piping that are a must have. In plumbing it is pretty simple math. Don’t let that stop you. I chose plumbing over college and I have no regrets. Are you wanting residential or commercial, new construction or service?

Hey Roger, I've been watching your videos this past weeks and I'm really interested on becoming a plumber. I'm currently 19 and don't want to go to college but sometimes I'm afraid that if I chose the plumbing career I'll failed it. I'm not really good at testing and those stuffs because I'm a slow learner. I really want to become a plumber but my anxiety is holding me back.

I have been a plumber for 25 years The three things you need are show up on time,show a interest in what you are doing and never ever be on your cell phone ,work smart.

Iv just taken my first steps into the plumbing world, I'm a professional barber of over 16 years and I'm in my 30s and want to try something different and completely new to me, I started a few days ago under a master plumber and I love it and I'm also very sore lol. My first job as an apprentice was very satisfying, we climbed into the attic (loft) and looked at the water tank and seen it was on its way out, we noticed a small tear drop leak and a ton of rust, I learned how to drain it disconnected it and replace it all in one day, the owner of the house was so grateful we saved her and her family a disaster that was going to happen in the near future. Overall in my very short time doing this I'm loving it and I'm not going to lie my body isn't, it's physical work, specially at apprentice level it's demanding but if ur a hard worker and enjoy problem solving I really recommend it

@@rebel8440 Great still enjoying it and learning so much. It's a very satisfying career and I always feel like iv accomplished something after a very job we do. As for the body iv lost weight and am much fitter than when I started as its a physical job its gonna happen. Overall all still feeling good and haven't regretted anything.

I just subbed to your channel, sounds like you have lots of of sound experience! The trades run in my family, ha ha. Any words of advice to give to someone in their upper 30s who plans a new career to go out and give a resume in person to reputable plumbing companies. For starting out, what is the usual pay?

I have shared it with many apprentices. Buy it now and start studying while you are learning as an apprentice. Anyone know how much the schooling costs. I want to get licensed here in Wisconsin it's 5 years as an apprentice or school degree. I have installed more bathtubs fixtures toilets excetera than I can count and I get down at work when I am not doing plumbing. It's so much cooler than carpentry!! Much love dude, love your videos!!

How physically demanding is plumbing? Is it back breaking with lots of heavy lifting? I'm considering being a plumber I think it will be a great career for me. I just want to know how physically demanding it is or if it is back breaking.
I’m 59 retired from the fire Dept I wish I could get my license. I have been doing handyman work for 35 years most of my work is plumbing and electrical. I have been to HVAC school
Plumbing fascinates me, its one of the only things ive found that gets me excited to get out of bed in the morning, i know there will be crap days that suck, but thats kind of what i like about it. If you just accept that some days are going to be frustrating you will enjoy your days much better, i am 22 and i dropped out of highschool, im going to get my GED and then go be a plumbing apprentice and im excited to go places. My ultimate goal is to run a non profit that has people licensed in trades and EMT training to go out to places where natural disasters hit and my people can help fix houses and potentially save lives by using their medical training! Also my best friend is a journeyman Electrician who has wanted me to get on with him, all i tell him is you cant wash away a bad shock.

I’m 21 and when I was In high school I wanted to go to school to be a pilot was set on It to but my senior year came around I really started looking into being a pilot and it took too much time so I decided to do a trade 1.) kids my age don’t really do trades 2.) I’ll always have a Job 3.) make great money. I’ve been In school for plumbing for about a month now and I will be starting my career as a plumber tomorrow.

I work 10 hours a day without getting tired. Ive gotten straight As in school. I've done irrigation and house repairs (self taught) and been thinking of doing plumbing as a profession as a apprentice. I love manual labor, love making money. But I'm a bit nervous going into it. Only real way of me getting hired or trained is by union here in florida...nobody will hire me as a apprentice (maybe roto rooter?) With no "real" experience. Sll my experience is all under the table so I have no proof of skills. So I'm wondering what my next course of action should be. I'd like to be a master plumber but dont wanna do a trade school. Thinking I should do the union way if possible. Once I'm liscenced I could probably go with other companies. Idk though. Big step.
