Thank you for this. I went through a DOL program with the Phcc here in San Antonio and graduated in 2020. I’ve received my master license and have been with a company for 8 years. I know I have the capacity to start my own company with the right values and great customer service. The issue I find is going out on my own after being a big part of the culture within the company I’ve worked for. I know you went through something similar so I want to ask you how you told the company you worked at that you were going to do your own thing? How did they take it? I’m at the point where I know plumbing so well, but lack the knowledge of cpas and marketing just as you have gone over.

I got a psyc degree, am 27 and now in my first year as a mature age apprentice as well. I’ve been really enjoying it and find plumbing really fascinating.
Don’t regret college, what sets us apart from those that started at 16-20 is maturity and communication we develop from tertiary education. We do plumbing because we sussed it out thoroughly after a lot of life experience, rather than just falling into the trade like a lot of others who started young. I have a strong drive to learn and wanting to do a good job because I’m mature enough to know reputation is crucial and it’s my choice to be doing this. That sets us apart and we’ll catch up in no time.

What are the costs Florida charges to start a plumbing company? Don’t include professional licensing or education because that is part of every plumber’s expense regardless of whether they are starting a business. Specifically what fees does your county charge to start a plumbing company? I went on the DoL website and didn’t see industry specific fees for starting a plumbing business.

From what I have been reading to get my license is that I need an apprenticeship certificate. I am not sure if my boss offers a certificate because he is a very small plumbing company with only 5 employees. If I worked for him for 5 years, would I be able to use that experience to get a journeyman license or would it have to be a certified apprenticeship program?

    Welll done.
    42 years in UK me.
I'm finding lots of UK lads that watch your channel.
They are in their 20s and they think they know it all.
They have actually become a liability yo real , proper old school English plumbers.
Please , please put a disclaimer on your videos telling these frauds that American plumbing is vastly different to UK plumbing.
    Regards and respect.

samuel purvis make sure that you have learned enough to start your own company first. You need to be a good business person to start a company. You also have to understand everything about plumbing. How long have you been plumbing?

Marcio Butler working around Home Depot will assist you in learning the correct name for parts. you will become bilingual in “customer language” and “plumbing language”. Stay there till you know every parts name and how to interpret what that doodad is. Find a new work plumber. Work with him for a couple years. Then move to service. Service is where the money is. Service is the simplest but dirtiest at times. If you have a high gag factor and know how to take things apart. Willing to admit YOUR mistake. ?? You will be 10 miles ahead of the crowd. Good luck. Owning a business isn’t for everyone. Starting a business is for even less percentage. You might find that it’s easier to just be the top plumber at the company. I as owner make 5-10 k less than my top plumber. He averages 60-65k a year. We live in a 33,000 populated small town. And rarely leave the county lines with zero advertising. So anything is possible. Don’t judge a service call by the location. Small towns need plumbers too. I have the county work. Both city maintenace. All 3 utility districts refer me. Both hardware stores send my number out on their signs out front. The retired plumber gives out my name.
Your personality will determine your success. Anybody can physically fix a drain in a sewage filled crawlspace. But only a select few can come out smiling. The smile gets them every time. Lol. That customer will never forget you.

TRASH! We're just a small outfit of 3 guys and no commercial building. We have had the luxury of being able to use the dumpsters at a local plumbing supply house that recently closed. This supply house just permanently closed and the dumpsters are GONE. What have other guys done in this situation? Took this for Granted all these years and didn't realize what a convenience this was.

My very first company I worked for, received there license in 1922. One within only 4-industry leader company's, within that era. Great grandfather was first to intiate the company, passed down amongst the grandfather, to sons. Never did enter even 1-new work environments, Service Repair/Replacement only throughout company lifetime. Advertised approx first 2-years, Aquired slightly over 8,000 customers post initial 2-years advertise ment. Started with 2-vehicles, then 8-vehicles, finality 17-vehicles, to cover call volume nominal. Stainless steel racks in side each vehicle, Spartan #100, #300, each vehicle, 2-spartan 1065 machines kept at office, journeyman approved only. Each vehicle over 4000 fittings/material items. Girls in office were stellar, knew how to schedule accordingly, also listened to us journeymen plumbers towards what each/every call would take, as far as time being important, so schedule two-hour arrival was up-held to customers. Initial voice when customers call, believe it or not, best voice is a female voice directly to existing, and-or new customers. Customers feel very comfortable within a female voice, might sound dumb to most people, but very true. Phcc owners know this is very much importance. Very first impression being judged like no other, in other words. Worked there 11.5 consecutive years, never had to take not 1-freeway at all. Owner placed his office within logistic topography, pretty much within middle of region, that his customers residing within. 7-professional plumbing supply houses , all with 4-niles from existing office, secondary logistics within office placement.
