I like this sir.👍
Thank you for this video. As a stationary engineer I am subjected to the trades and plumbing is one that engages me. The engineers I work with always want to call a plumbing company to do the work! I tackle the jobs After I isolate and secure valves. One day it took me six hours doing a rotted domestic hot water line in the ceiling. Got it done, and felt good! However I want to learn more. Men and Women, believe in yourself and educate yourself!
NICKLE& DIMEz this is a great trade to learn. I have always enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Nice one!
great video
Good job.
Thank you @Plumbing Expert!
Thank you for this. I went through a DOL program with the Phcc here in San Antonio and graduated in 2020. I’ve received my master license and have been with a company for 8 years. I know I have the capacity to start my own company with the right values and great customer service. The issue I find is going out on my own after being a big part of the culture within the company I’ve worked for. I know you went through something similar so I want to ask you how you told the company you worked at that you were going to do your own thing? How did they take it? I’m at the point where I know plumbing so well, but lack the knowledge of cpas and marketing just as you have gone over.
Hi Roger I am going to plumbing School in Northern Montana. I am trying to understand build waste systems.
Hey Roger, what are you thoughts on focusing on faucet replacement and repairs?
Might be a little too narrow of a niche...
Im no where near to the point where i can start my own business, but at 27 i started in the trade 4 months ago and love the trade!! I wish i did this instead of college I never knew how much i would like it.
I got a psyc degree, am 27 and now in my first year as a mature age apprentice as well. I’ve been really enjoying it and find plumbing really fascinating.
Don’t regret college, what sets us apart from those that started at 16-20 is maturity and communication we develop from tertiary education. We do plumbing because we sussed it out thoroughly after a lot of life experience, rather than just falling into the trade like a lot of others who started young. I have a strong drive to learn and wanting to do a good job because I’m mature enough to know reputation is crucial and it’s my choice to be doing this. That sets us apart and we’ll catch up in no time.
Roger. Can you advise me on what tablet you and your team use in the field? And which software you are using to run your plumbing business? Thank you. Ronald S.
It depends on the state. In my state Fl they require thousands upon thousands of dollars to start a plumbing company.
I do big commercial and it is my dream to do residential service work. It's where I started and I love it. Ima get there one day. I dont care what I have to do.
I've built a painting business and a roofing business for my buddies before I got serious in plumbing.
The hard thing here is also getting the masters
@@MartialArtsTutorialsFighttips Is it the questions on the test? How long after you complete an apprenticeship to take the masters?
What are the costs Florida charges to start a plumbing company? Don’t include professional licensing or education because that is part of every plumber’s expense regardless of whether they are starting a business. Specifically what fees does your county charge to start a plumbing company? I went on the DoL website and didn’t see industry specific fees for starting a plumbing business.
Hey man , you said communicate and talk with people, who exactly do you want to make connections with ?
Day 1. September 1,2006. I had $75. 14 years out alone. With zero credit. And zero advertising. This past year I did $325k in revenue. Listen to roger. I didn’t but only because I just found him 6 months ago. Honesty , integrity, punctuality and completion. Don’t be the worst subcontractor. I don’t have an internet presence. Only because I can’t find good service techs here. The big companies are training and keeping those guys.
tank you. Roger. four thing. iapreseat. your. theang very much larn alot frum you
@Brian Donatien thank you. I do enjoy making these videos.
Sir your videos are outstanding. I am currently a plumber in the Airforce and am a full time student with a major in business. When I separate I am hoping to become a successful entrepreneur with a plumbing business. Thank you for the valuable information.
how's your plumbing business been going on so far?
Are you 3E451 (WFSM) too? Im doing that in minor right now

Do you recommend anygood SEO Comapnys?
My specialty.. hard to find parts..I have 3 companies locally that order inventory from me.
How do you go about networking?
Do you attend business mixers or do you just mean mentioning you have a plumbing company and handing out cards when you meet people?
Thanks for this video Roger

Just be yourself
What if i want to do everything for example I want to do Commercial, Residential, service, repair and new construction?
My husband will be RMP and we are trying to start up a little business. He been a plumber for over 20 years ,here in san Antonio .This is all a learning process for me and him . And im trying to help him out in his own business. Taking it one step at a time
It was AND still is a learning process for me too! Good luck on y'alls journey! 💪
Be his supporter and his cheerleader. Remember, he’s the one with the skills, not you. The more you can HELP him while being HUMBLE, the better.
I love your videos , question how many years should I wait being a plumber before I start my own plumbing company I’ve been in the trade for 3 year and I’ve learned both construction and service and still reading code and isometric I’m hungry for knowledge in this trade I want to be a top dog in this trade
2 years later how are you doing man!
when your hunger is satisfied imo
As a union contractor how do you charge? Are you time and material or flat rate? If your time and material how do you motivate your guys to upsell and close more deals?
@charles king we do straight forward pricing. we spend a lot to train our guys on communication skills. Training our guys is big for us.
My biggest issue is parts. As I run an appliance repair company, trying to make sure I have the parts is tough. How do you go about this when you first stRted?
We use Ferguson, they've got some really cool features where you can order and the parts will arrive at your office the next day. It's been really great for us when it comes to keeping our trucks stocked and making sure we have parts we need for specific jobs. Less stops to the supply house = more jobs per day = more money in the bank!
I have a question and I am hoping someone on this feed can answer it? If you own a plumbing company and wish to expand your business to another state to grow to make more money , can you do so legally?
Any recommendations for seo company’s?
Don Bodnar where are you located and what type service are you in?
Yesssss 🤯
good morning sir beginner i need someone to bring through the process
Do you have to have a plumber license to start a drain cleaning business in California?
Need a plumbing license for any job over $500 in ca
Can we get a branch in kenya
I just started working for an open shop plumbing company in CA as a helper. One day I would like to own my own business. From what I have been reading to get my license is that I need an apprenticeship certificate. I am not sure if my boss offers a certificate because he is a very small plumbing company with only 5 employees. If I worked for him for 5 years, would I be able to use that experience to get a journeyman license or would it have to be a certified apprenticeship program?
@Plumber Balili talk to your company owner and see if that is something that he can do for you. Also check with the AHJ to see what all the law says. Check and make sure that the road you are on will get you where you want to go. Are you enjoying the plumbing?
Roger Wakefield great thank you. I enjoy plumbing very much. I am doing service plumbing. It’s not easy, a lot of hard work. I still have a lot to learn but I am enjoying the process. Different problems everyday and not doing the same thing. Also a plus, I get to drive to different places and view different sceneries.
I am a CA plumber and recently acquired my C-36 contractor license. You do not need an apprentice certificate. As long as you are being paid on the books you can use your W-2s to verify your experience. There are lots of small contractor schools that can help you through the process. Good luck!!!
I wish contractors had the same testing we did
@Juan Hernandez I do too. If they knew more about plumbing it might change their minds!
+Juan Hernandez it would be a better world! Most of them would fail!
Journeyman stepping up to Master with full intention to start a service company but I'm thinking of adding home warranty as well... I know warranty companies can be a hassle so is it worth it?
JoeCarr I never got into the home warranty end of things. Too many bad stories and I didn't want that reputation coming back on me. Where are you located?
I'm moving to the San Antonio area and I'm wanting to start a drain clear company. It the market for that area to saturated or not
I’m from San Antonio my brother started his own cleaning mobile car, Go for it, there’s not a lot of draining clearing company
@@kimmoreno451 thank you
Thanks Roger
No problem brother
Can I offer plumbing services through my business and not be a plumber? Can I contract that service out?
Nothing on insurance and bonding? Can't start a plumbing company without those...
But do I need a physical location?
I'm going to be 20 when I come out of school, I'm planning on getting a job for someone else for a few years, now do you recommend this or just go straight into my own business?
I'd say get your hands dirty. You need to know what exactly you're getting into. You'll earn the respect of you employers as well. You may better with 1 or 2 other guys, that you trust. May not be a millionaire, but if you're living comfortably, and love what you do,and a family to come home to,you're already be a millionaire
Did you start at 16?
I would like to get into the trade. I have a vast automotive technician background and have been working in IT network design and security for the past 8 years. Really difficult in New Hampshire. There's only one union in the whole state down in hooksett and it's quite a pay cut to start in. I have a family to support and it's not realistic for me to take a huge pay cut. What do you recommend?
I'm sort of same boat as you. Been doing IT/network admin for 10 years now. Lately been feeling pigeonholed in the industry. Literally feel like the movie Office Space. My job went from doing actual IT, to sitting in pointless meetings with IT directors and daily memo's of why my TPS report cover name is not acceptable. Been doing a little bit of plumbing work on the side and I got to say I feel more self gratification doing that than sitting at a boring desk job.
@@myothercarisadelorean8957 yep they used us up and burn us out and then replace us. The IT industry is not what it used to be, the pay has sunk so far. Not gratifying work at all anymore.
Tools are not cheap all ways $$ are very important in every bussiness not matter what's
@Mel Terkel I figured that most people wanting to start doing this already had experience and tools. Good tools aren’t cheap! You are right they are expensive. If anyone wants to start a company one day, start building up your great tool collection first.
Can I just clean out pipe clogs and make good money?
Roger,if the sunset bill passes should I still get my masters license or get a contractors license to go on my own.
Chris, are you a journeyman now?
I'm a journeyman
I currently have my journeyman license
@@insall57 Good Job! I do too. Are you in Dallas area? Am moving down there for family from Oregon,
I'm in San Antonio. From what I understand if the bill passes the RMP won't be needed,so basically anyone with book knowledge can get the contractors license and do plumbing. So my question is can I skip the masters, get my contractors license and open up my own company.
Thanks for this video. I'm Andy from Philippines and I want to start this business and I have a feeling that this will work in my City. I know a bit of plumbing but my brother knows much far better than me. Could I start my business with him. Two of us have no license yet my brother is very skilled in plumbing. Please give us some advice.
What are the licensing requirements there?
@@RogerWakefield Hi Roger. I think the only thing is to register the company. Philippines is not complicated about this business.
Andy Deala you should be able to figure it out and make it happen then. If you and your brother can let people know what you are doing... that’s the hardest part. Try to be better than everyone else. Good luck!
@@RogerWakefield yes it's true this kind of taking the risk but I we have to. Thank you very much Roger. Your a good businessman with a heart. May God bless you.
Wishing you much success. I visit the Philippines every year and I see the difficult situations of many (Mindanao and Samar). My mission is for the children in provinces. God will surely bless your efforts. Plumber in USA.
Woe 😢
You didn't say anything that validates your point. How much money did you start with? And how much money did you dish out for marketing? How did you save money?
38 years.
Welll done.
42 years in UK me.
I'm finding lots of UK lads that watch your channel.
They are in their 20s and they think they know it all.
They have actually become a liability yo real , proper old school English plumbers.
Please , please put a disclaimer on your videos telling these frauds that American plumbing is vastly different to UK plumbing.
Regards and respect.
Hi Roger ,I'm in Los Angeles California starting a plumbing company .What SEO company do you recommend ? Any help appreciated. DD
I’m 18 and I do plumbing 40 plus hours a week and studying for my license now so what is some advice you would have for me about beginning to work outside of a company on my own
samuel purvis make sure that you have learned enough to start your own company first. You need to be a good business person to start a company. You also have to understand everything about plumbing. How long have you been plumbing?
Roger Wakefield it’s been a total of a year now
Consecutively
@@samuelpurvis8786 I would want more experience than that. You haven't even seen everything yet. What are the licensing requirements there?
Do your time. You're not even close.
Loved the video… I’m 35 years old and would like to change my career, and become a master plumber. Am I too old?
NEVER, I know people twice your age still in the trades
0:29 The differnece between a marketing executive who thinks* they know shit, and somebody who ACTUALLY know what will and wont work. Put simply; Idealist and realist.
I work for a huge company and suffer the aformentioned philosophy on the daily 🤦🏻♂️
How did you grow your company form a one man show to multiple employees?
❤❤❤❤❤
Good evening sir, can I work as a plumber even if I don't have a experience?? I want to work as a plumber btw I don't have any training or certificate regarding on plumber, I'm interested to be a plumber.
Depends on what part of the country you are in. Do some research in your area to see if companies are looking to hire someone in your position.
@@RogerWakefield I'm from Philippines but I want to work as a plumber in Canada.
@@RogerWakefield thanks for your answer I appreciate.
Can u do a step by step
Everything u mentioned costs money to do!
wat should i do im 18 wanna be a plumber and own my own bussiness one day
Marcio if you are already out of High School start looking for a job. Watch my other videos where I talk about getting started. This is a wonderful profession. If you get in at that age and do well you will be retiring at an early age if you so choose. Start studying!
Roger Wakefield ok thanks im currently working at home depot should i work with a apprenticeship or go to trade school for plumbing
its a 5 year program
@@marcio9242 Go for the apprenticeship. That way you get paid to learn the trade. Do trade school if nothing is biting and you need to put something on your resume.
Marcio Butler working around Home Depot will assist you in learning the correct name for parts. you will become bilingual in “customer language” and “plumbing language”. Stay there till you know every parts name and how to interpret what that doodad is. Find a new work plumber. Work with him for a couple years. Then move to service. Service is where the money is. Service is the simplest but dirtiest at times. If you have a high gag factor and know how to take things apart. Willing to admit YOUR mistake. ?? You will be 10 miles ahead of the crowd. Good luck. Owning a business isn’t for everyone. Starting a business is for even less percentage. You might find that it’s easier to just be the top plumber at the company. I as owner make 5-10 k less than my top plumber. He averages 60-65k a year. We live in a 33,000 populated small town. And rarely leave the county lines with zero advertising. So anything is possible. Don’t judge a service call by the location. Small towns need plumbers too. I have the county work. Both city maintenace. All 3 utility districts refer me. Both hardware stores send my number out on their signs out front. The retired plumber gives out my name.
Your personality will determine your success. Anybody can physically fix a drain in a sewage filled crawlspace. But only a select few can come out smiling. The smile gets them every time. Lol. That customer will never forget you.
Can you talk about people that will not pay you
is $ 50 Grand enough to start off ?
If you do what all I did it absolutely is!
I need help with Advertisement
I can help you (no catch). Is there an email I can reach you on? I’m a marketer and I need to send leads to a plumber who can take on more work.
Yes my email is jnjplumbingco@yahoo
Sheet Metal roof installer/ repair with gutter replacement service
TRASH! We're just a small outfit of 3 guys and no commercial building. We have had the luxury of being able to use the dumpsters at a local plumbing supply house that recently closed. This supply house just permanently closed and the dumpsters are GONE. What have other guys done in this situation? Took this for Granted all these years and didn't realize what a convenience this was.
BUT BUT BUT!
You need a mustache to be a plumber!
You earn the mustache after becoming a licensed plumber!
Still have to have a good attitude
28 years old just got my c36 license
38 years ago isn't like it is today my man.
too general
Haven’t they deregulated the plumbing industry in Texas
Wow you look like my 8th grade tracher
I promise it wasn’t me.

Great tips. My turn though shall not use the name if the lord in vain. It will save your life.
Most of this is utter nonsense 😂
@Samuel Beckett it has worked well for me...
How’s it utter nonsense lmfao?
Samuel Beckett how’s that? I have done it just like this and it has worked very well for me.
My very first company I worked for, received there license in 1922. One within only 4-industry leader company's, within that era. Great grandfather was first to intiate the company, passed down amongst the grandfather, to sons. Never did enter even 1-new work environments, Service Repair/Replacement only throughout company lifetime. Advertised approx first 2-years, Aquired slightly over 8,000 customers post initial 2-years advertise ment. Started with 2-vehicles, then 8-vehicles, finality 17-vehicles, to cover call volume nominal. Stainless steel racks in side each vehicle, Spartan #100, #300, each vehicle, 2-spartan 1065 machines kept at office, journeyman approved only. Each vehicle over 4000 fittings/material items. Girls in office were stellar, knew how to schedule accordingly, also listened to us journeymen plumbers towards what each/every call would take, as far as time being important, so schedule two-hour arrival was up-held to customers. Initial voice when customers call, believe it or not, best voice is a female voice directly to existing, and-or new customers. Customers feel very comfortable within a female voice, might sound dumb to most people, but very true. Phcc owners know this is very much importance. Very first impression being judged like no other, in other words. Worked there 11.5 consecutive years, never had to take not 1-freeway at all. Owner placed his office within logistic topography, pretty much within middle of region, that his customers residing within. 7-professional plumbing supply houses , all with 4-niles from existing office, secondary logistics within office placement.
