Rachel Weisz was unforgetable, once she dissapears from the screen her presence lingers all over the rest of the film! Thats the definition of a supporting role!
whatta lovely movie the constant gardener is and whatta great performance by rachel, she deserve this oscar as much as anybody in the history of cinema, her portrayal of tessa quaile is unforgettable,so much passion ,she really did bring this character to life!
In my opinion, this year shoud be: 4th runner up: Catherine Keener 3rd runner up: Frances McDormand 2nd runner up: Rachel Weisz 1st runner up: Amy Adams Winner: Michelle Williams, she was spectacular, her best performance. Rachel Weisz should have won last year for The Favourite.
For years I couldn't understand how she won the oscar over the other four. There were no particularly gripping moments in her performance and nothing that made the viewer initially go...wow, like with Michelle Williams in Brokeback Mountain or Amy Adams in Junebug. Amy got all of the major critic wins and my personal favorite at that time was Michelle Williams. With a recent reappraisal, I completely see it now. Her Tessa was passionate and full of vitality. With Rachel Weisz-- It was a virtuoso example of naturalistic acting, where subtle notes convey so much more than showy ones. Juliette Binoche in The English Patient was similar I feel.
@@franciscomartinezromero9855 Me too. But I guess it was really close call. I just wonder if ACADEMY will ever let us know vote counts.....any year, any category. You know....just like FBI or CIA have to , by law , release information after 1000 years :-))) Joke.
She had more showy scenes in the movie. They just went for a more reserved yet equally powerful performance. Plus her character arc is great in that movie
Catherine Keener didn't do anything to justify a nomination except appear in a movie with Phillip Seymour Hoffman and play a real life famous person. They really struggled to find a clip for her.
TheGabrielmugue Thandie Newton in Crash won the BAFTA, wasn't even nominated. Her or Ginnifer Goodwin in Walk the Line. Anne Hathaway in Brokeback Mountain, Renee Zelwegger in Cinderella Man, a couple nods for Pride and Prejudice were all possibilities too. Hell even Tilda Swinton's turn in Chronicles of Narnia I would have welcomed.
I don't agree with your examples. I thought Tomei was as much the soul of The Wrestler as Rourke was. Stone was probably the standout of the entire Birdman cast, and Winslet wasn't pulled in with Fassbender, both made their own nominations for themselves because the film underperformed. The examples I would use would be - Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind) - Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda) - Sally Field (Lincoln) - Helena Bonham Carter (The King's Speech) - Maggie Gyllenhaal (Crazy Heart)
No one was robbed. All of them were great. There are roles that aren´t that dramatic like Weisz´or Keener´s but anyone could´ve deservedly won because they´re all amazing actresses and those were good characters.
I love Amy Adams and she was phenomenal in Junebug and deserved to nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and in the other year she would have won and she wasn't robbed because Rachel Weisz was extraordinary in role in The Constant Gardener not only that she deserved to win and if she didn't win she was the one who was robbed and I love her, she is the best.
Alexandre Christiansen I agree. It is, ever since she plays a woman who finds out that her husband and the father of her children is actually having an affair with a man. Her performance is pure innocence and brilliance

She is one of most talented actresses of that generation
Her performance is the epitome of a supporting role. Loved her in The Constant Gardener, but she kicked ass more in The Favourite!!!
❤❤❤ exactly

Amy's clip is so amazing
I love her

So true!! This should have gone to Amy or Michelle. Ironically both of them still don't have an Oscar 😔
Rachel Weisz should have been nominated in the Best Actress category

Man, brilliant comment. Totally agree

Rachel Weisz es una excelente actriz..pero debió ganar el Oscar por su gran perfomance en La favorita...aquí debió ganar Adams o Williams
Yes. It is the same case with Jennifer Connelly in A Beautiful Mind, deep and dense characters.
Morgan laughed out of happiness. Giving an award to his “Chain Reaction” co-star.
Rachel Weisz is great actress
love that voice
It was "yes" for Rachel, indeed!
She was wonderful in The Fountain, BTW...
Heath Ledger we miss you!!!
Che bella che è Rachel Weisz!
what a line of talented actress
Rachel received blessing from the hands of "allmighty" Morgan. Isn't it nice?
Michelle Williams deserved the Oscar that year. What a heartbreaking and superb performance.
Everyone has their personal favorites. That was a hard choice, all the movies were superb.
❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you Morgan Freeman. Rachel earned this award! Amen to that! Thank you Jesus! 🌹
from Oscar winner to Mrs James Bond
Can't get any better.
She’s also Evelyn Carnahan and Melina Shostakov. Not bad.
Well said queen of my heart
Congratulations dear Rachel
After this nomination for Junebug. Amy's career going wuuuuzzzz...!!!
Question is can Rachel Weisz win her 2nd Oscar for The Favourite? And she will be up against Amy Adams (for Vice) again?
I think she’s good a good chance to repeat!
It was King's since the globes, get real.
Sadly she did not! :'( She had to lose to Regina King pfffft
Regina King only won because they needed to have a token person of color winner. Sheesh
@@sann5146 regina only wons because she is good take it that
Lovely sweet and descent woman
without beginning there is no ending.

you´re right and that´s typical for the acamedy awards
I don't think so, typically the performances have at least one strong scene. Keener is a one off blight in my experience

Luke McGowan Those are better examples, yes.
She was great in Disobedience
Rachel Weizs looks like Brooke Shields
Thandie Newton should have been nominated (and won) for Crash (at least she got the Bafta).
Agree!
Morgan Freeman. Amy Adams. P. S. Hoffman. Catherine Keener...........
This is an incredible lineup but my choice will always be Amy Adams. She gives the best supporting actress performance I've ever seen.
Micky Rooney in the background.
Amy Adams was robbed. Such a beautiful, nuanced and heartbreaking work that lost to a rather serviceable and adequate one
+eduardo ramirez Have you seen The Constant Gardener? Rachel would have won in any year.
+Vitor Hugo Santana have you seen Junebug? there's no way Weisz is better than Amy (and yes, i've seen TCG)

Michelle Williams should have won
Id’ve given it to Amy Adams.
I think Amy should have won.
Michelle should have won that award! And Thandwie Newton should have been nominated.
Michelle Williams should've won
I agree. Even though I haven't seen Brokeback Mountain, her performance seemed the strongest out of the five.
Alexandre Christiansen you should watch it it is amazing! if u have netflix it is on netflix
Alexandre Christiansen I agree. It is, ever since she plays a woman who finds out that her husband and the father of her children is actually having an affair with a man. Her performance is pure innocence and brilliance
lame movie
H
Jesuschist' what's with the music?
Michelle Williams was robbed. She truly deserved the Oscar.
Why did Rachel win? Must been a bad year for Hollywood.
Well it based on a true story in Africa too so maybe that added to the drama.
Michelle Williams should have won.
