Girl my family has had the tradition of making tamales every Christmas but ever since I became vegetarian, I haven’t been able to participate. This makes me so happy
Wow, tons of vegetarian ingredients out there, and also vegan too!❤
I made vegan tamales yesterday and used jackfruit so it would be like traditional Chile verde tamales and they are crazy close to the real thing! Everyone loved them! The bean mixture looks really good, I will try it next time!
How did you make the jacfruit tamales? I want to make some of those!
I've literally had a bag of Masa in my cabinet for nine months now lol. I think maybe it's time to make some tamales!! I'll definitely be trying out these recipes!
We hope you enjoy! :)
Havent had tamales since I've been vegan! Used to be obsessed. Thanks for the recipe!
Hi Jasmine & Chris, Yum! The only "Suggestion" I have is adding "Chile in the Masa" it makes the "Tamales" flavorful throughout! Thanks, for "making my dreams if Vegan Tamales come true!" Blessings to you, Chris, Caitlyn and Barry,
Piper
Piper Tarin thanks for the tip! :)
Piper Tarin: when you say " 'chile' in the masa" what exactly do you mean?
@@mjcubo2246 My Grandma, used to take part of the "Red Chile" Sauce, She would Cook her "Meat" with & add some of the "Chile Sauce, to the Masa" She, did this in "Place of some of the Water!"
Blessings all of you & kisses to Barry,
Piper & Singer
P.S. The "RUclipsr Rawboy" has a Version of "Vegan Tamales" that "Add Chile" to the Masa. Sorry, I don't remember what "Kind" of Chile, My Grandma used (it's been over 30 yrs.) She went to Heaven;
I’ve only had tamales after going vegan and I love them! Your food always come out really good, so I trust you on sharing flavorful recipes. I cannot wait to make these. Thank you!!
The only tamales I’ve had are the ones I had while living in New Mexico. Pork simmered in NM Hatch peppers was the filling. Some people used the broth from the pork chili mix to the masa for extra flavor. Huge, Ginormous batches were made at a time and sold by the dozen to eager buyers. (Like me). The Chili’s were actually roasted in batches (a big burlap bag full of chili’s)in big round metal screen cages turned over a flame till charred, then returned to the burlap sack to take home and peel the skins off. Right in the grocery store parking lot! Thanks for a vegan option. They are time consuming, but oh so delicious! I just might make these 😍
I’m making Vegan Chipotle & Cheese JackFruit Carnitas Tamales 🔥🌱
GillFilms recipe?
Yummy! If, I was near you "I'd buy a dozen!" Blessings,
Piper
I got green jack fruit. Thanks for the idea!!!
Oh I need to try the jack fruit, that sounds good.
Me and my mom made these a few weeks ago, and they were AMAZINGGGG! Topped them with some guac and cilantro and they were so tasty!! 😋
Yay, so happy to hear that!! Glad you enjoyed them :)
Guatemalan tamales are made with banana leaves ☺️
And are SO yummy!
Do you steam them the same amount of time?
What would you recommend for traditional Guatemalan filling?
Not only guatemalans use banana leaves to make tamales, OAXACAN MEXICAN tamales are made w/banana leaves as well!👍
Peruvian tamales also use banana leaves
Seriously cannot wait to make these! Tamales are one of my faves and I never knew how easy they were to make. Thank you so much!
Even before I went vegan, I was not much of a meat eater. The exception to that was TAMALES! I'm definitely going to make these!!!
U can steam tamales in the instapot also
😂😂 I almost clicked away coz I was like well if he can’t pronounce Tamales properly.. 😂😂
I DID make the potato and bean! They were YUMMY and flavorful. 🙂 TY! Made our Christmas dinner extra special and memorable .
I’m here to say that I made your oil-free tamales, and they were INCREDIBLE. My family devoured all of them in two days and basically fought over the leftovers. Thank you so much for posting that version! We will make these again and again. ☮️🌿🌈
I think the only different tamales I've had are veracruzanos and they're wrapped in leaves of banana trees, sounds weird but they were delicious and huge
Do you have a vegan champurrado recipe
not yet! that's a great idea
Sweet Simple Vegan yes please !
I think you are thinking about the Salvadoran tamales. ☺🇸🇻. My mom makes them every year for either Christmas or New years! They typically use platano leaves aka plantain leaves. The masa is a bit more moist as well like you mentioned. But I loved this recipe they look amazing.😍. Love and good vibes to you both!!!
The one in El Salvador/Costa Rica, the dough used is made of plantains and potato and they are wrapped with a banana leaf.
Id love to see more sweet tamales like strawberry and cherry 😋
Your video ended on a good number so im here and excited to try your recipe :)
I have never made tamales before, but you guys have inspired me! Thanks so much.
I can’t wait to make these! Thank you!
Have you ever had Hibiscus "meat"??
It's seriously life changing! I'm making Hibiscus Tamales with my mom this weekend! 😋
I’ve only tried tamales two or three times in my whole 21 years of life but I loooooved them the first time around! This recipe looks absolutely BOMB OH SNAP 🤩🤩🤩 lol and Chris is the best basic b 🤪
Making these this year I'll tag a link when it's done with your recipe:)
This is the best one I have find on RUclips thank you guys for the tips and recipe
I'll throw the masa mixture on top of some beans and bake. I can't see myself making those little packages.
Haven't heard of Tamales vegan or otherwise before I watched this video. It is good to learn something new everyday. I will have to try them out.
Mmm tamales!! I’ve never had them before but maybe I should make them for Christmas for a nice change!
Lmao when she did that fortnite dance 😂😂😂
Banana leaves are the other wrapping. I’m going to work this up as a tamale pie because I’m too lazy to make individual tamales. Thanks for the recipe!
Malcolm Fisher tamale pie lol that’s awesome
It won’t work . The masa needs to steam
This year I made @the raw boy tamales again. I marinate the jack fruit for 3 days but I didn't have cumin so they didnt come out as good as last year so I made your potato pinto mix minus cilantro and cumin. And I added it with the jack fruit and they came out so good.
We love the raw boy! That sounds delicious :)
Thank you for this video and recipe. Just made these - the bean version, no oil - delicious!
Nice video and thank for the vegan ideas! YES TAMALES ARE A SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TRADITION!
Tameles is big in Texas because Texas is near mexico and tamales is yummy. Can't remember the brand but they sale vegan tamales in the tv dinner section there not bad to sweet for me I like my tameles either a tomatilla and anheim verda sauce or chili sauce flavors.
It depends on the country, in Colombia it’s made with plantain leaf, and the one made with the corn husks are sweet and called “envueltos”
My mom is Nicaraguan and makes Nacatamales
Those look so yummy and easy to make. What kind of cheese did you use ?
Follow your heart OR good planet mozz!! :)
@@Sweetsimplevegan Thank you.
I love tamales. Some people have Taco Tuesdays. I have Tamale Tuesdays. Since going vegan, it's a lot harder to find pre-made tamales that are vegan. I have found some at Whole Foods and my local market. But making my own would be awesome. Thanks!
OK like Diez K-B below I have also had a bag of masa for months but been afraid of the time commitment but you guys made it sound fun, so gonna go 4 it!
I wish I were as self confident as Chris. He's chill but not too chill comfortable with himself.
Totally making them for Christmas 👍
Yay!! :)
thanks for the great ideas!!
They look great 👍🏻💚
Team Broccoli thank you :)
We used corn husks :)
I am going to try this for my birthday.
I am very excited..
It’s what’s for dinner!
Omg yumm!!! They look delicious! Cant wait to try these!
In Colombia they make them with plantain leaves and the masa is softer...those ones look 👀 delicious 😋
Love love love you guys! Can't wait to make these bomb ass tamales!
:) I also love the fact that garlic goes in. :) Always!
Holy crap they look delish- I live in South Jersey- I don’t see them anywhere. I must make these. Thank u guys. Happy Holidays
Yay!! I hope you enjoy. Happy Holidays!
What about jackfruit tamales?
Our favorite vegan tamales are: red chile & zucchini, or black bean, corn & spinach, or black bean. We serve them with red chile sauce (vegan), green chile sauce (vegan) and homemade vegan mexican rice.
Looks delicious. Thanks for sharing.
Banana leaves? I would also like to make them very low in calories, if possible; so less masa, less potatoes, maybe spinach?
YES!! I was going to try to make my own recipe.
You both did a great job on this video!!!
🌻✌️🌻
What kind of cheese did you use?
5:08 it’s 3 am and I just realized that for my whole life I was doing It like a complete idiot ignoring the pain and as fast as I could because I never thought that paper could help me a little. I want to die
I made these so super yummy :)
Love the oil-free option!
Another YTvid showed how to make green chile tamales but she used a LOT of corn oil in the tomatillo prep. Any idea how to do this w/o oil or would a different oil (olive, avocado, etc) work just a well. Corn oil is not healthy.
I've been seeing vegan tamales everywhere. I think I need to try and make some.
Loved this recipe
:) I'm addicted to tamales, vegan, habenro chilies, green olives, refried beans, i've never done potato though, that's an interesting idea. :) I ususually cook like 400 of the damn things, freeze about 300 of them. :)
I love them with red or green chile 😍. To be fair I like most foods covered in chile...
Thank you. Loved your video.
Make vegan chef boyardee raviolis!
yum!! good job!! gonna make some, too!!
This seems a bit over my expertise as a chef but someone needs to make these for me! I love Mexican food ❤️
Not too hard for you Christina...just take your time making them. You'll have a big batch to eat or freeze and enjoy later.
Those look super delicious!
oh wow!! they dont look so difficult to make 🤣 let’s try this tomorrow
Tamales are so delicious and I’ve never made any it takes TIME AND DEDICATION I rather buy them :(
Yum! Banana leaf?
Yvonne M Corn husks
@@TeamBroccoli She had said they wrap it in something different than corn husks. That's why I was asking if it was banana leaf.
Yvonne M Oh, well she answered your question accidentally on my other comment. So I was just passing along what she said. 😁 haha
@@TeamBroccoli I know they used corn husks. I'm referring to her question @9:47 in the video. :)
I'm so intimidated to make tamales. The bean and potato one looks sooo good though! I bet jackfruit tamales would be amazing, too. Or even soy curls.
Ooo soy curls!! If you can get someone to help you stuff them, that would make it easier! It's not hard, just time consuming affff
@@Sweetsimplevegan Soy messes with the body. Many of soy's health benefits have been linked to isoflavones-plant compounds that mimic estrogen (aka - messes up the estrogen receptors in the body). If you MUST...at least consume organic soy and avoid GMOs
Can you do a video on you vegan curly hair routine
She did
I filmed on and you can find it here :) ruclips.net/video/OJbRrS0trMw/видео.html
Filipino Vegan Tamales.
YUM! I want tamales now 🤤 And yes please to a beer video!! 🍺
What!? 😲I had heard of these but never actually seen tamales. I guess they haven't made their way up North to Canada yet. 😂 Really confused about the husks though.... what are the made of? Where do you get them? Why do they kinda look like the insides of banana peels? So many questions ahahaha 😂
They're corn husks. You can usually find them in the Mexican aisle of the store or a Mexican specialty store.
Banana leafs 🍃 Not peels hehe
This looks like a great Christmas Eve recipe. Apparently it's tradition in Guatemala. I'm going to make a Guatemalan version with steamed banana leaves.
Where can one find the banana leaves for steaming if in the US?
@@mjcubo2246 Try calling some Asian or Latin markets in your area.
Are you using vegan, non-dairy cheese? Other wise it would just be vegetarian tamales. Regardless with out cheese looks yummy too. Great recipe .
Of course!
Sorry you talked a little fast when you got to the dough that you use to smear on the husk. What dough did you use please. Also are there replacements for that and what can I use if I dont have.
I am from South Africa and many of the internet recipes we google have ingredients that we have never heard of in this country. Thanks for your patience, Jasmyn
Elsje Massyn the dough is a cornmeal paste called masa. Often it is held together with pork fat. The corn is processed with alkali. I think any corn paste that can be passed into a dough should do. I think you have a cornmeal dish there that is common?
Can you order online and have ingredients shipped to where you are?
It’s Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!
you guys are from either pdx or bc canada
What if I don’t have a steamer pot thing?
Jenny
Hi , you could use a regular pot but just line the bottom with a little water, extra husks(that have been cleaned) stack your tamales, then cover them with more husks(that have been cleaned) and place the lid . Hopefully that works !
Loved drunk Chris😂😂
Very well done video!,
Where can you buy the tamale wraps? And the flour?
Most grocery stores carry masa harina. Bob's Red Mill carries an organic masa harina (avoids eating GMO'd corn which is poison)
Is there an alternative way to steam them if you don't own a steam basket?
No not really
Yes, in an instapot
Yummy!!!!!
I've never had tamales. I don't think they are a common thing up here in Canada. But these look fantastic!
Same from the UK, I have no idea where to find corn husks
@@beraxcce i had a hard time finding them....then i found them in an asian market.
@@beraxcce Buy some corn on the cob this coming summer and save the husks to dry out and make tamales in later. But a specialty food store might have them there.
MUCHAS GRACIAS 😍😘
What kind of cheese did y’all use lol cause it’s vegan right?
Vegan cheese, there are many brands. Violife, follow your heart, daiya, chao, miyokos, etc etc
How many joints can you smoke at a time?
WTF is "cook down?" What does that mean? Does cooking down have a time frame?
Thank you for sharing the recipe guys!!
And btw, I believe you were referring to Venezuelan hallacas 😉 (my housemate is Venezuelan, that’s how I know lol)
Cheers!
Great video
Love this! My family has made tamales for Christmas my whole life! I love doing jackfruit and seasoning it with enchilada sauce like the classic pulled pork ones (: green Chile and cheese is my favorite though!
jackfruit? Wow. How do you make that? Sounds interesting.
THANK YOU YOU CAN USE JACKFRUIT ALSO
