  • First class is scheduled for the first weekend in February.
    Started off welcoming Dr. Owen Strachan, Provost and Research Professor of Theology at Grace Bible Theological Seminary (GBTS) who announced my appointment as Professor of Church History and Apologetics at the school. James is deeply honored to fulfill this calling in teaching a subject that has been his work for nearly four decades now. James truly prays the Lord will bless GBTS and its work in equipping men to the work of edifying the body of Christ in these challenging times. James had thought we would only have Dr. Strachan on for a few minutes but, we were foolish, but we also enjoyed his company regardless.

    I don't quite understand Middle Knowledge, but Dr. White is helping me get there. From what I understand, it's entire foundation is built on assumptions, not Scripture.

    There's been quite the buzz in the community lately about the debate with WLC in which the problem of evil was discussed. I would like to know from Christians why they never site Job as the primary interpretive text when solving the dark riddle of theodicy. An entire book of the bible, over 12,000 words, were dedicated to answering this question and only the book of Job explicitly answers the question of why we suffer. Job says we suffer because God is allowing Satan (who Job says is one of the sons of God) to facilitate our suffering so that our loyalty to God may be tested. So, when little boys are raped and decapitated in front of their parents by ISIS, Yahweh is merely using Satan to test little boys parents loyalty via unspeakable suffering and pain. Do Christians deny this? Do Christians deny the scriptural authority of the book of Job? Someone please help, thanks.

      You are leaning a LOT on the use of "Satan" there. I'll try to link you some resources about that when I get to a computer

    • @jonnyw82
      @jonnyw82 2 года назад

      @@Charles.Wright Not trying to be too difficult but why should it require scholarly articles and such to interpret Job which the vast majority of bible readers throughout history had no access to? Take out satan. Do we suffer so that God can test our faithfulness? Because, that's what Job says.

      @@jonnyw82 Have you read all of Job? Sounds like you've only read the beginning of the book, not the end.

    • @jonnyw82
      @jonnyw82 2 года назад

      @@aidandougherty7800 I’ve read the entire book. You’re probably referring to the part where Job tells God he deserves to know why he’s suffering and instead of coming clean and telling Job he let Satan have his way with him to test his loyalty Yahweh basically says who the heck are you to ask me why I do what I do? Which is odd bc the reader knows why Yahweh let him suffer so it’s rather unbecoming of an all living all knowing deity.

    • @aidandougherty7800
      @aidandougherty7800 2 года назад +3

      @@jonnyw82 That's just it. You're assuming you know the reason. You're reading into the start something that's not there. If anything, God is proving Job's faith against Satan not testing Job's faith to see if he will remain loyal. Yahweh is omniscient, He knows precisely what is going to happen. Secondly, you're missing the point that this is a particular instance which demonstrates theodicy for the saint. Most natural evil is judgement. Some natural evil is the cause of sin; some that the power of God may be demonstrated; others to test the faith of saints. Yes, God disciplines His children and also tests their faith that they may be refined.
      A more explicit passage on this is from John 9 with the blind man. The disciples asked Jesus, Why is this man blind? Is it from his sins or his parents sins? Jesus answered, It is neither but it is so that the works of God might be manifested in him.
      To answer your overarching question, Job doesn't answer the question of ultimate theodicy (why is there evil and how does it operate). Job answers the question, Why do the righteous suffer? That's why it is often not quoted in debates about evil in general. The scope of Job is very particular.
