  • In a Premier Unbelievable special, celebrating his 80th birthday, the indomitable Christian apologist, Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford, and renowned ethicist, Dr. John Lennox, engages in a candid and unreserved interview with fellow Christian apologist and Oxford-educated theologian, Dr. Amy Orr-Ewing. A long-standing friend of Unbelievable, John delves into his life journey, from a childhood in Ireland, to studying Mathematics at University of Cambridge, speaking and defending his Christian faith from Russian to East Germany, and his electrifying debates with formidable atheists such as Richard Dawkins, Peter Atkins, Christopher Hitchens and Peter Singer. This illuminating discussion also delves into the AI and the future of humanity, the problem of evil and other profound questions that continue to captivate the minds of believers and sceptics alike.
    Dr Amy Orr-Ewing is an international author, speaker and theologian who addresses the deep questions of our day with meaningful answers found in the Christian Faith. Amy is the author of multiple books including ‘Where is God in All the Suffering?’ and bestselling, ‘Why Trust The Bible?’ Over the last twenty years, Amy has given talks and answered hundreds of questions on university campuses around the world. She has also addressed Parliamentarians in the Speakers Rooms and Chapel at the UK Parliament and staffers on Capitol Hill, and at the West Wing of the White House. Amy is interested in the intersection of questions of meaning and faith with the marketplace, education, leadership and policymaking. Her latest book 'Mary's Voice Advent Reflections to Contemplate the Coming of Christ' comes out October 26 2023.

      Good grief John Lennox "arrogant". That is just so incredibly laughable. That's like saying Stalin was more nonviolent & peaceful than Gandi.
      If i had more time & patience i would try & probe where has he been arrogant. The question would be dodged & i would follow up with the same question. It would dodged &,or a false answer would be given. Thus, i would demonstrate the falsity of said claim. This has been the pattern i have witnessed among internet/new atheists

    John Lennox is a great evangelist. Talking of the 'new atheists', I'd like them to know, they were a large part of why I came back to my faith. I listened to their arguments and realised 1. they were so wrong 2. I didn't want to be on their 'team'. On the side of cynicism, nihilism, ego, pointless/meaningless existence... They (the new atheists) inspired me to re-examine the arguments for faith, which I did, and my heart followed, very quickly.

      I1: Science has done nothing but describe the universe not why or how the universe came to be.
      GW1: Describing the universe, as far as that has progressed, is a very great accomplishment! Science does tackle the question of how the universe came to be, even though we don’t yet know the answer. “Came to be” does not necessarily mean “came into existence.” There are at least four good reasons to think that the universe is eternal and constantly changing. “Why” questions, especially with respect to motives, may not be relevant to the universe as a whole.
      I1: A car can be brought down to the laws of physics but it doesn't explain why it is so.
      GW1: A car is the way it is because one or more human beings designed it to be that way. There is no mystery here. Your mistake is probably in thinking that life, human beings, or the universe itself were designed.

  • @christinefleming9812
    @christinefleming9812 5 месяцев назад

    It made me cry. Listening to John Lennox being an academic and a Christian. What touched me most is about his view about suffering and guilt and very often the pointed finger of members of the congregation at the suffering person, saying that there must be a moral reason for it. Me going through a lot of turmoil during my life losing my younger brother at the age of 20, while I was facing divorce with 2 little daughters and losing my second husband 4 Years ago to cancer after 2 terrible work accidents, left me with a lot of questions to GOD. But I also ended with the Cross. It doesn't say that all my questions are answered.
    But after all I always felt a strong protection over my life.
    Professor John Lennox encourages people to remember that God gave them a brain and mind to use it and not follow blind a crowd and to listen carefully what they say. There are a lot of "Teachers" and leaders out there. The Bible askes us to proof if it is true, even what is tought in the Bible. And during my life after making mistakes leaving me humble and recognise that GOD's laws are the frame for life, a moral compass and guidance. Human beings creating "Human" can only go wrong and to search for 'eternal life' can only go terribly wrong. There is a part in the Bible where is said that people will seek death and they will not find it.
    I am very grateful for the chance to listen to this interview! And I hope that Professor John Lennox will have many more chances to speak about his faith. If he would come to Germany again it would be great to get the chance to listen again.

    John Lennox has brought a new level in intellect to the debate of the existence of God. He continues to demolish the bankrupt arguments of the those who so obviously hate God.
    I pray that eyes are opened to see the risen Christ with the eyes of of a rational, reasonable, provable faith.

    It is very important to understand what christianism is, what it states and why it takes you to the truth. Apart from that, we must be humble enough to be open to explore all ways that explain reality, both material and spiritual, by applying the principles of logic such as identity principle, non contradiction, etc.
