Torah Shadows (Pt. 2) 3 Arguments on Colossians

  • In a previous video (link below) we took a close look at Colossians 2:16-17, and saw how Paul teaches that the food laws, feasts (festivals), and Sabbath laws commanded under the old covenant, are not required under the New Covenant. In this companion video, we address three additional objections from our “Torah keeping” friends on the interpretation of this passage. For Christians, keeping those rituals commanded under the Law of Moses is permitted, but it's not required.

Thanks for responding to my comment on the last video! I hope I can ask this here - I was wondering if you've made any material on first day Sabbatarianism? Especially because I noted you listed many famous and well-learned theologians in your video on whether keeping the Law of Moses makes sense for Christians, but while seemingly none of these people subscribe to Torahism, many of them nevertheless do hold to a first-day Sabbath commandment; e.g., Jonathan Edwards and his writing on the perpetuity and change of the Sabbath. Do you have any views on this? You've correctly stated a lot of mainstream Christianity doesn't hold to Torahism, yet in my experience it is quite mainstream to hold to first-day Sabbatarianism in some form.
Thanks for your content and your willingness to engage with so many different people and viewpoints!

More importantly, if the color of our skin mattered to God, He would have mentioned it. But the Bible nowhere speaks of skin color as a matter of honor, importance, or significance. Each of us has the skin color and ancestry that God chose for us. And that tells us two important things: 1. We can each be proud of our racial heritage because God ordained it. 2. We should never discriminate or hate anyone else because of _their_ racial heritage because God ordained it.

Hey there! I spent a few years wrestling with the Hebrew roots views on scriptures and came to the same conclusions you have and honestly it has been so refreshing to find your page! Thank you for the work you’re doing! One verse I haven’t seen you touch on is Luke 1:6. I heard this one used often to demonstrate how it is possible to be blameless in concern to the law of Moses. Do you have any thoughts on how this is used as a Hebrew roots apologetic?

    • @TheBiblicalRoots
      @TheBiblicalRoots  8 дней назад +1

Hey Von! I'm so glad you found us.
So you're saying that because John the Baptists' parents were described as "righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly" (Luke 1:6), the conclusion is that it is possible to be blameless relative to the law?
I think the first question I would ask in response is this: Are Christians anywhere _required_ to be blameless under the law of Moses? Should this be our goal? Is this what Jesus taught? Zechariah and Elizabeth were Jews living under the old covenant law at that time.
The second thing that comes to mind is that if it were possible for anyone to have kept the law perfectly, and lived a perfectly righteous life in God's eyes, why did Jesus come and die for our sin? The fact is that many people in the Bible are called blameless or righteous (Noah, Abraham, David, Job, etc.) This does not mean they were sinless.
      Blessings,
      RLS

Even when I look at "these are a shadow.." it's present indicative... Where do you get that notion of the imperfect from?

That's a great question, WM! N. T. Wright says, "The phrase 'by what you eat or drink' refers to the kosher laws of the Old Testament, extended, as they already were in Paul’s time, to include wine as well as food." And I think that makes sense. Paul talks about asceticism in this chapter, and the Essenes rejected both wine and animal food. It also could have been an extension of the Nazirite rules (Num. 6), or the wider application of rules for priests ministering in the tabernacle (Lev. 10:9). There is also the command forbidding the seething of a kid in its mother’s milk (Exod. 23:19; 34:26; Deut. 14:21), which was extended by Rabbinic interpretation to the prohibition of drinking any milk with any meat (Mishnah, Hullin, 8:1ff.)

For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.”/Did Jesus change one jot of the Law? The answer given to the disciples to the double question in Matthew 24,3„ “Tell us, when will these things be? In Matthew 5, Jesus teaches people not to divorce, that oaths beyond a simple yes or no are from the evil one, and that we should not follow "eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth." Seems to contradict the idea that Jesus literally meant following every little detail of the law, in my opinion, as these oppose the teachings of the Torah.
In Mark 7:17-23, Jesus taught that our hearts matter much more than what we eat and drink.
In Mark 2:27, Jesus says the Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. To me, this means that the purpose of a day of rest was to help people from being forced to work too much rather than being something to strictly follow to please God.

I'd recommend reading Hebrews 10 about how sacrifices are no longer necessary as they were temporary shadows until the reality arrived. I'd also recommend reading Galatians 3 and 4 which discusses how the law was like a temporary guardian until the way of faith arrived.
In Galatians 4, it talks about how the law was needed when the heir was underage but is no longer needed once the heir has received their inheritance. An analogy I like is that the law is like training wheels and the reality is fully riding a bike.
The training wheels are more restrictive to gain more safety but at the cost of speed and maneuverability. When someone is young, the cost/benefit ratio favors the training wheels, but once matured, the cost/benefit ratio favors freedom.

The feasts weren’t God’s feasts. God spoke to Moses and said,” Speak to the children of Israel.” The feasts were the appointed feasts of Israel. God didn’t honor feasts. Both Christmas and Easter are occasions to remember the goodness of God and hid propitiation for your disgusting sins. Leave it to a pompous Pharisee cultist to have a problem with holidays that honor Jesus. You are disgusting.

Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my LAW in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
    Jeremiah:31:31-34
NEW covenant, New Covenant they continue to recite.
    What is the new covenant.
Only 2 mention in the Bible and in both cases the are hinge on the law.
Since the new is an individual choice, God decided it is to write it on the tables of our hearts

Here is the problem RL, you're actually asserting your authority over the assemblies in this vlog .and inferring. ".you do not have to mention or regards anything of Feasts or have a Bible study on the Sabbath's". This Colossians passage is about logistical observance of HOW to do Sabbath's or Feasts. These days were already fairly routine in the early church, and some can't be truly observed outside the land of Israel anyway like Sukkot. Paul went many years not going to the Sukkot festivities in Jerusalem because it was the logistical ordinance based observance that the Judaizers were teaching and also of being mission focused as the extension of favor was being extended to the nations. I am sure on every Sukkot, he referred to its future fulfillment when he spoke. Take down the tree completely, there is no shadow to refer to, understand? Where are the vlogs against Lent and it's calendar? This passage could apply there too.

@@TheBiblicalRoots because the Judaizers were often meticulous on such matters and wanted every thing exact in place to avoid persecution. With Paul there was that tension as he wanted the cross central as he put it so well in the letter to the Phillipians and yet regarded a calendar that was in place already in his journeys. Like I said earlier where the vlogs on matters of Lent and that recognition of days. You know the ones that Puritans pushed against as well. It's odd that we can't seem to find Resurrection Sunday after Passover this year. Oskar Skarsone states that it always followed Passover in the church. Some other early church fathers like Polycrates noted the observance of Passover as well. I just think church leaders need some semitic sensitivity and sensibility on this matter, R L. A healthy balance.

Ok so let no one judge for what you eat, holidays, or Sabbaths, why are you making a career off judging and encouraging other Christians to judge those who do keep the Sabbath, Passover ect? I came to the decision reading Scripture to try Sabbath, at first i was doing it under the Old Law, then God pushed me into how Christ lived on Sabbath and now I still practice Sabbath, go to church with people who live secular, and I don't judge or expect them to do what I am, it's my special time that I spend in rest with God.
Now I am attacked often based off your teachings, and I'm not asking anyone or rebuking anyone who isn't doing what I am doing.
Maybe I'm commenting because it would be nice if you taught your mass following to stop attacking those of us who are peacefully practicing Sabbath. I practice Sabbath from Genesis 2.

Hi, CL! You may not have watched many of our videos yet, but I have no problem with anyone keeping the seventh day Sabbath or eating kosher or keeping a Torah feast. My position is that keeping those things is permitted but not required. I've never criticized anyone for keeping those things. So if anyone is attacking you for peacefully practicing the Sabbath, I agree with you that is wrong and they need to knock it off!
What I criticize is when "Torah keepers" try to convince other Christians that those things are required for following Jesus and that not doing them as sinful. That is the dangerous unbiblical theology of Torahism that I speak out against.

“Is” is italic in the Bible’s its translated in. A quick glance and ppl can see for themselves. Italicized font means that word is ADDED for-reader flow.
Verse 18 it speaks about worshipping angles and practicing what is called
    asceticism... that's important.
    2. So Paul was saying in V16
Let no man (non-god fearing or asceticism practicing men) therefore iudge you in meat, or in drinke, or in respect of
Holy day, or of the New moone, or of the Sabbath dayes..... those are what Gods ppl follow. The holy days, new moons point to christ...
    (CHRIST IS RETURNING AGAIN PPL)
    3. You are reading v16-17 wrong because you don't understand the layout of the verse.. look.
V16 Let no man therefore judge you...(THE OUTSIDE WORLD)
    1. in meat,
    2. or in drink,
    3. or in respect of an Holy day,
    4. of the New moone,
    5. or of the Sabbath days:
    6. Which ARE a shadow of things to come,(ARE IS IMPORTANT)
    V17.......................................but the body of Christ....
and the body of christ(church) keeps GOD'S WORD
(Again IS was inserted for reading flow, unfortunately in this case and many others it makes things complicated)
    5. So it reads…
LET NO NONE JUDGE YOU,(in holy things) BUT THE CHURCH.
We are to be on 1 ACCORD if we read these verses as one group can do this and another doesn’t have to,
That’s not biblical, that’s not ORDER, it’s confusion and that’s the OPPOSITE of GOD.

But if He _was_ resurrected, then all of your assumptions about the Tanakh are incomplete, and many are plain wrong. If Jesus was resurrected, it means that your Messiah has already arrived! And He is eager for you to turn to him so that you may have life. Jesus said this about the Hebrew Bible, which was His only Bible while on Earth:

      *Acts 26 - Paul's second account:*

You ignore it is immoral to indoctrinate children with your fantasyland vocabulary & literate people avoid you like the old woman with too many cats. Read your bible, Jesus Christ says faith is worthless, since mountains don't move in obedience to you. With you wolves in sheep's clothing, Jesus warned us He comes not with peace, but the sword of your delusions.
I love being a "fisher of men" & not speaking to the choir, like that "wicked generation seeking signs".
I know why you wonder about others, you can't admit your embarrassing situation, having one foot in fantasyland. Believers lack any sense of shame, if God existed, then we would all be believers, because that would be God's will. Christians are to be mocked, for all their expressed knowing of God. Freud wrote, "The antidote to Christianity is literacy", Rome won the war of the Jews, so Jesus is hanging from a tree for 2000 years. The Christian home is in Rome, not Jerusalem. If there were any remembrance of Jesus Christ, The Romans would have obliterated it, and you would hear the mocking of a son of a Jewish God. "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree:" Galatians 3:13
The Jew / Christian God is a Roman joke. Any trace of Jesus Christ would have been obliterated with the destruction of the temple in 70 AD & ;the war of the Jews in 130 AD. Jesus Christ has been proven to be a means to mock the Jews, having their King hanging from a tree, for all the ages. The Romans controlled the literature & Jesus Christ is a proven Joke, taking 2000 years to complete the job, for it is written, "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree:" Galatians 3:13
Jonah is the sign: A believer, outnumbered by a gathering crowd, by other believers, who murder for faith.
Every sign or miracle of Jesus is a joke. Believers insult us with expectations they are to be respected for their distance covered with one foot in fantasyland.
Christians are slaves to a fantasyland, it is like shooting fish in a barrel: Their history is bad, their theology is bad, & their vocabulary is evil. Freud wrote, "The antidote to Christianity is literacy". So they indoctrinated children to extend a blend of fiction.
Christians give themselves an excuse & an answer for everything.
Wolves in sheep's clothing preach to the choir, since literate people don't take them seriously, any more than the old women with too many cats.
I scold Christians because they lack shame.
Nothing pleases me more than opposing faith.
Incompetence is the God of Jesus, failing to complete anything for 2000 years, being the son of a deity, known for a perfect record of doing nothing. Jesus Christ hangeth for all time, because Romans won the war of the Jews. The Messiah of the Jews, The King of the Jews, forever cursed. The Christians are a curse, being the "wolves in sheep's clothing", seeking signs. The only sign given is believers murdering a smaller number of believers.
Incompetence is your God, having waited on the Jew' Messiah for 2000 years, indoctrinated by Roman literature.
" for it is written, Cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree:" Galatians 3:13.
You ignore the fact, not all of us can pretend prophesy & God exist. That is why Jesus Christ says, "Think not I come with peace, but sword" & believers make up stories to gloss over the fact they are avoided like the old woman with too many cats. It is amusing to hear the profound arrogance of someone knowing of God, as if He were known outside of fiction. The believer & the literate are separated by the vocabulary of fiction: Blasphemy, God, faith, prayer, prophet, scripture etc. Matthew 17:20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” I like asking believers how they can possibly think their faith is respectable, given Jesus said faith is worthless, since you can't expect obedience when ordering mountains to move? Freud wrote, "The antidote to Christianity is literacy".
"Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall". What is The Catholic faith? Organized crime, indoctrinating children with a fantasyland vocabulary? When men are free of religious notions they write, "The antidote to Christianity is literacy." "My sheep hear My voice" is the mindset of slavery. Once free of it, there are no suggestions we all travel better by having one foot in a stranger's fantasyland or Garden of Eden. A mind free of religious text is not tortured by pretending Divinity made Mormons so Christians would know how Jews feel, having pasted their books on to them both. Those looking for the sign of a resurrection, are a vile, "Wicked Generation" seeking signs, led by "wolves in sheep's clothing". "The only sign is that of Jonah"; a believer murdered by other believers. Chained to the slavery of faith, they write: "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree:" Galatians 3:13
One must be insanely arrogant to suggest knowing something of a God. It is by boldness, Moses became the world's worst navigator, by having one foot in some fantasyland. There is a fine line between fishing & standing on the shore, looking like an idiot. Fail to get the Jews to buy it for 2000 years & they should know who their Messiah is. Jesus is a fake, to immortalize the war against the Jews. Jesus Christ is crucified for all time in literature & the subjects of Rome are illiterate. Freud wrote, "The antidote to Christianity is literacy" & the joke is in the scriptures. "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree:" Galatians 3:13
An improvement on your God & faith; would outlaw indoctrination & abuse of the vocabulary of fiction on children.

Hi, Paz! Personally, I think a better use of your time would be to study the resurrection of Jesus. If He was never resurrected, then most of your accusations about the NT are true.
"You examine the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is those very Scriptures that testify about Me; and yet you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life." (John 5:39-40)

Wow... Aren't you tiered of brining that same argument up when I already showed you Paul made the whole thing up and none of the gospels can be thought of as *'eyewitness account'* as none of the writers were actually even Jews and the first gospel chronologically was that of Mark's dated to at least 37 years after the crucifixion... ???

      *Acts 22 - Paul's first account:*
A light flashed around him, he fell, heard a voice, they saw the light but did not hear, he was blind, and wad healed in Damascus by Ananias
      *Acts 26 - Paul's second account:*
A light flashed around Paul AND his companions (!) they ALL fell (!) Paul heard a voice talk to him. No mention of a miraculous healing of blindness at all !!
*Can you see the contridictions ?? I'm sorry, but Paul even contridicts himself on three basic details regarding the so called encounter.*

You should stop listening to Tovia Singer, his arguments have been debunked, long ago, he is more of less spewing out the same arguments used by Jews since the first century to attack Christianity. You misunderstand both the context of Ezekiel and the nature of Jesus' atonement.
Context of Ezekiel 45: The passages you quoted from Ezekiel 45:17 and 45:22 refer to a future prince performing sacrifices. However, these passages do not explicitly refer to the Messiah, and even if they did, they should be understood within the larger context of prophetic literature, which often uses symbolic language. The role of this prince is not necessarily indicative of Jesus’ role in the New Testament.
Jesus as the Sinless Sacrifice: Hebrews 4:15, "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet was without sin." Jesus’ sinlessness is a cornerstone of His qualification to be the perfect atonement for humanity’s sins.
Fulfillment of the Law: Matthew 5:17, "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." His sacrificial death is seen as the fulfillment of the sacrificial system outlined in the Old Testament, not a contradiction to it. The sacrifices in Ezekiel were part of the old covenant, which Jesus fulfilled and surpassed with His ultimate sacrifice.
Paul's Teachings and Hebrew Scripture: Paul, a Pharisee trained in Hebrew Scriptures, consistently emphasized the continuity between Jesus' teachings and the Hebrew Bible. See Romans 3:21-22 "But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe." Paul did not deceive the Gentiles but rather explained the fulfillment of prophecies concerning the Messiah.
Prophetic Consistency: Prophets like Isaiah foretold a suffering servant who would bear the sins of many (Isaiah 53:5-6). This aligns with the New Testament portrayal of Jesus as the sacrificial lamb who takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29).
Historical and Scriptural Evidence: Christianity is not based on lies but on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, witnessed and documented by multiple sources. The early Church Fathers, the Gospels, and Paul's letters provide a consistent testimony of Jesus’ mission and His fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies.
Your interpretation of Ezekiel 45 does not debunk Christianity at all. Jesus' role as the sinless atonement is well-supported by both New Testament writings and Old Testament prophecies.

*See how you were all fooled:*
*The messiah will be a king, a man, who will have children, an inheritance, who will worship God and who will have sin like anyone else for which he will offer sin sacrefices on behalf of HIMSELF (!!) and of the peopl as you were shown..*
      *Ezekiel 45:*
8 In the land, *he shall have it for a possession in Israel,* and My princes shall no longer defraud My people, and the land they shall give to the House of Israel to their tribes.
      *Ezekiel 46:*
2 And the prince shall enter by way of the vestibule of the gate without, and he shall stand at the doorpost of the gate, and the priests shall offer his burnt-offering and his peace-offering, and *he shall prostrate* himself at the threshold of the gate, and go out, but the gate shall not be closed until the evening.
16 So says the Lord God: If the prince give a gift to any of *his sons,* it is *his inheritance and remains in his sons' possession; it is their property by inheritance.*
17 But if he gives a gift of his inheritance to one of his servants, then it shall be his until the year of liberty, and then it comes back to the prince; *only to his sons shall his inheritance belong.*
18 But the prince may not take of the people's inheritance to force them out of their possessions, *only from his own possessions shall he give his sons inheritance,* so that My people not be scattered each man from his inheritance.

Jesus couldn't keep the whole law because he would also have to be both man and a woman, a farmer a butcher, a priest of the priesthood tribe (by geneology and not as you preceive), living abroad as well as in the land itself... You don't even have a clue - they all have different laws to observe - Jesus didn't 'fulfill' all the law, nor can the law be 'fulfilled,' as it is eternal and as Sabbaths will be kept and sacrefices will be renewed, that makes it perfectly clear that God's law is to be kept for eternity:
      *The eternity of the law:*

It was not with our ancestors[a] that the Lord made this covenant, *but with us, with all of us who are alive here today.*

*Your word, Lord, is eternal;* it stands firm in the heavens.

      *Jeremiah 17:*
And they shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the places about Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the plain, and from the mountains, and from the south, *bringing burnt offerings, and sacrifices, and meat offerings, and incense, and bringing sacrifices of praise,* unto the house of the Lord.
27 But if ye will not hearken unto me *to hallow the sabbath day,* and not to bear a burden, even entering in at the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath day; then will I kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched.
      *Isiah 56:*
6 Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the Lord, to serve him, and to love the name of the Lord, to be his servants, *every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;*
Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: *their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.*
      *Isiah 60:*

      Regarding the "order of Malchizedek"
*See the correct translation of 110:4 and I will explain.*
4 The Lord swore and will not repent; *you are a priest forever because of the speech of Malchizedek.*
Priest has another meaning in Hebrew other than the person who serves as a real priest. It also means to preside.
King David is just being told he and his descendants after him will preside as rulers.
Just as David sons were called priests in 2 Samuel 8:18 but weren't priests at the temple.
      *See the NIV translation:*
Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Kerethites and Pelethites; *and David’s sons were priests.*
*Compare with the correct translation by Chabad:*
18And Benayahu the son of Yehoyada [was over] the archers and the slingers; *and David's sons were chief officers.*

"You examine the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is those very Scriptures that testify about Me; and yet you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life." (John 5:39-40)

I am alittle puzzled by your questions but I want to point out two things to you.
First According to the book of Daniel the messiah had to live and die at the time of the second temple.
      Daniel 9:25-26
The second temple was destroyed about 70 AD
So clearly the messiah already came.
Secondly the high priest offered sacrifices for his sin and then everyone elses , not the messiah.
      The messiah is SINLESS.

*Christianity is just a lie, I'm sorry.*
*You were all had by Paul who knew the gentiles couldn't read the Hebrew of the original text.*
      ___________________________________________________
Proof that 'the prince' in Ezekiel is the messiah to come'.
The verses regarding the prince, the messiah:
      ___________________________________________________
And I the Lord will be their God, *and my servant David a prince among them;* I the Lord have spoken it. *Ezekiel 34:24*
      ___________________________________________________
And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children's children for ever: *and my servant David shall be their prince for ever.* *Ezekiel 37:25*
      ___________________________________________________
      ___________________________________________________
      *Daniel 9*
*We need to remember what it is that Daniel was trying to figure out: when will the exile end. When the angel Gabriel came, he gave him the answer to that and what would happen from that point onwards.*
The first verse tells us that the Babylonian empire was gone. He was sure that by this time the exile would end.
      Jeremiah 25:12
And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the Lord, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.
      Which resembels:
      Jeremiah 29:10
10 This is what the Lord says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place.
Both seem to be predicting the same thing, but the first speaks of the end of the Babylonian empire and only the second speaks of the return of the jews and this is why Daniel was so alarmed as he thought the date was fulfilled but because of sins in the exile God would punish them 7 times over =490 years - AKA - the curse in leviticus:
      Leviticus 26:18:
And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.
Don't you think if this prophecy spoke about Jesus's death the NT would say that??
In every place else in the translations the word *an anoited* is placed, other than this chapter, where it is translated as Messiah and capitalized, though there is no capitalizing in Hebrew (!) and though it should be *an anointed* as all other places.
The Hebrew text says *"an anointed"* and not *"the anointed".*
By the way, the true final messiah is never referred to as 'the messiah', but as 'the prince'(see Ezekiel).
*Another problem - Why doesn't the book of Ezra which comports with the prophecy of Daniel about Cyrus follow the book of Daniel as it does in the OT ?? the church changed the order of the books, to fit its narrative.
*There are two anointed in this chapter:*
The first is *Cyrus* who is God's anointed, a prince, who will come 7 shavuim (49 years) after the destruction of the first temple, as described in Isaiah 45:1.
The second is will come after 62 shavuim, who is not a prince, but a high priest (priests were also anoited).
There is a difference in Hebrew between *shavuim* שבועים *(the agreculteral 7 years cycles)* and *shavuot* שבועות *(weeks).*
      *The text uses 'SHAVUIM'.*
*Here's the math according to jewish count:*
Year 3339 the first temple is destroyed.
Year 3409 the second temple is built due to Cyrus (Koresh) who was thought to be an earthly saviour (by Isaiah).
Between them 70 years = 10 agreecultural cycles.
Year 3829 The destruction of the second temple.
Between the destructions 490 Aka 70 cycles.
      62 cycles (434 years)from the rebuilding of the second temple = 3843.
Year 3843 the year that the anointed one (last high priest) parished and his sons did not enherit the priesthood = approximately 82 AD.
      *Explanation about verses 24-27:*
24: "to make ends of sin" - for only in state of purity can the second temple be built and the sacrificial system renewed (the sacrefices for unintentional transgressions, but one must also repent)
25: jerusalem will be starting its rebuilding 49 years after Koresh (Cyrus).
26 Messiah shall be cut off - in the hebrew it says - "an anointed one (the high priest) shall parish and there was non other" (JC was never anointed, nor as king, nor as priest) see as a continuation of 24, where the Holly of hollies (the Dvir) was anointed as part of the priestly duties.
27: within three and a half years the high priest will no longer preform sacrificial rituals.
*That is not a prophecy about JC but a prophecy about the end of the priesthood*
      ___________________________________________________
