I have been Torah observant for a couple of years now, and I still don't understand why it is such a hassle for people to do. It definitely makes me feel set apart. I don't consider myself any denomination, but I do go to a Messianic congregation on Shabbat. Yeshua says the law will not be abolished until heaven and earth pass away. My delight is in the Torah. Blessings & Shalom

Keeping Torah is a blessing. I look forward to the sabbath as a delight. I see the moedim as a wedding rehearsal for the bride of Yeshua the messiah. I see dietary laws as a reminder I am a temple of the Ruach HaKodesh. Embracing tassels was life changing for me in taking thoughts captive better.

Generally speaking, a Messianic Jew is a Jewish person, born and raised in a Jewish community, that believes that Yeshua is the Messiah, but still follows man-made Jewish tradition and follows rabbinic writings in addition to the Bible such as the Talmud. A Hebrew Roots person (again, generally speaking), usually comes from a Christian background and wants to follow a Torah lifestyle in Yeshua. They may follow some Jewish tradition, but do not elevate them above Scripture. They tend to be sola-scripture and not accept rabbinic writings as authoritive (although they may be accepted as a good guide in some situations).

Hebrew Roots is a movement with different variations in beliefs and practices among individuals and groups. Nobody should assume that everybody in the Hebrew Roots movement believes in strange teachings just because they heard of an individual or group that teaches it. I have no problem calling myself Hebrew Roots because there are strange people and groups even in mainstream Christianity.

Labels are meaningless to a point.. I always use caution when someone asks what I am. Simply I just explain my history as shortly as possible, I was raised Christian but have chosen through study and prayer to depart from all pagan traditions and to rather observe and practice the feasts and holidays from scripture as Yeshua had done. Somehow Christian has become one of the last labels I would use as it has departed so far from scripture over the last 2 millennia. YHWH bless and keep you!

I am a child of Elohim looking to follow His loving Fatherly lessons and teachings. A good father wants their kids to make good choices and provides them with the wisdom and information to grow into that capability. So therefore it is wise for me to follow His teachings for I know that even if I don't understand them, I know they are there for my benefit, and His glory.

You can't keep the whole Torah until the temple is rebuilt, because much of the Torah involves a ritualistic atonement system that had pointed and still does point to the true atonement work of Yahweh through Yehoshua (i.e., Yeshua). But the whole Torah will never pass away until heaven and earth pass away. The ritualistic atonement system it contains will always be a shadow accompanying Yahweh's work through Yeshua until the time of completion, even though the old covenant has passed. God bless.

Yes, this is the problem. The terms, and the two movements, are both very broad. I attended Messianic synagogues for many years, but now that I have left them, I am trying to figure out what I should call myself. I am still partly Messianic for many reasons. I like some Hebrew Roots stuff (that flat-earther stuff you brought up was news to me!), and I feel that HR suits me better on many fronts, but some of the extreme legalism I have encountered there has turned me off and finds me seeking a new group to be with. While I write, I am looking down at Harry's comment about just being a "Believer", and I fully agree that that is who I am.
However, when seeking fellowship or a new congregation, one needs to know what to call what they are looking for. So where am I to find a moderate balance? By the way, I have met just as many Messianics who are overbearing about "names" as Hebrew Roots people. I definitely agree that God knows His Name in every language, and knows our thoughts and hearts. He will answer our prayers in the Name of His Son, no matter how we pronounce it, or what language we use.
One way this video was helpful, is that I now know that it isn't in my head. The definitions are not very concrete. Thank-you!

Sister, look into the Eastern Orthodox Church. All of these matters have already been dealt with by the early church. Christ gave the Holy Spirit to the (Orthodox) Church to guide her in all truth and right teaching. If you can find a parish in your town or city, I'd encourage you to attend one of the Divine Liturgies and talk to a priest afterward. You may be pleasantly surprised.

There is sadly a false dichotomy that is created in this section of the culture, where we are either messianic Jewish or Hebrew roots. But there are a number of other kinds such as simply Messianic or Calvarian or Followers of The Way. All just different levels of quantifying and clarifying how we try to obey the Bible.

    • @crystaldream1758
      @crystaldream1758 4 месяца назад

Best not to seek new labels. I only use the ones circulating for the sake of clarity and understanding. But being a believer is the best advice. The Torah was not and is not necessary for salvation, but it was and is necessary to be in obedience to Yahweh, arguably even the sacrificial temple system. Again, the Torah, including the sacrificial system, is not necessary for salvation though.

I understand how you feel, but I didn't lump them in together. I was only pointing out that many other people do. Those are the two most common examples of "fringe" beliefs that I hear people attribute to "Hebrew Roots", so they are the examples I used. Perhaps I should have said "I don't like being lumped in with sacred namers nor with flat earthers", but I don't have a script for these videos. I write down a couple of points I want to talk about and then start talking. Unfortunately, that means sometimes I'm awkward or unclear, but it's the only way I've found that I can do this.

I consider myself Messianic for lack of a better term, but do not want to use the word Judaism because I do not accept Judaism in any form. People always want to label others to put them in a box (acceptable or not acceptable). I prefer to say that my faith and my walk are "Biblical". Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things". There are many things in mainstream Christianity that are not true, pure or honest.

I think for some folks, the distinction involves rabbinic authority. Oral Torah gives us a rich explanation of aspects of the written Torah from a cultural and linguistic perspective. Some of the opinions recorded, however, say horrible things about the Messiah. And aside from Deuteronomy 17:11, finding a scriptural basis for it is a challenge. Sometimes Yeshua supported rabbinic authority and tradition and sometimes He didn’t. It’s a challenging subject to approach and I think we would see Hebrew Roots and Messianics, generally, have different opinions. In light of Galatians 3:28-29 I would argue that ethnicity plays less of a role in this than belief. Shalom

Because every believing Jew coming out of a regular Jewish synagogue to attend a Messianic Jewish one knows what the regular Jewish synagogues teach, but now believes in Yeshua, and can offer you any further insight on Torah that is lacking in mainstream Christianity.

With the Messianic and Hebrew Roots movements, should we have our main focus on the Torah and Jewish traditions? What does the Word say? Why would a person leave the Christian church, with its traditions and false doctrines, just to be caught up in Jewish traditions and false doctrines? What is our goal, the main emphasis? This study might sound harsh, but what are you seeking for? The Way, Truth, and Life! Don’t replace Jesus for the Torah (written word), but rather replace Torah for Jesus (The Living Word)! Which came first, Torah or Jesus? Which one is Living and Reigning?
“Abide in the Doctrine of Christ”, or you “Hath Not God”
    2Jn 1:9 - 11
The Hebrew Roots (Most), and the Messianic (Most) movements are following through a different “DOOR”! Are we to follow Jews, or our Lord Jesus?
    Joh 10:7 - 10, Luk 10:7 - 10
We're to seek the righteousness of Jesus, and enter through the "Door"
    Luke 13:23 - 25
    Who is our Rabbi?
    Mat 23:8
    Who are we to "Follow"?
    Mat 4:19, Mark 8:34
The Shema, “a Jewish prayer”, a tradition of men! The Shema is not a prayer, but rather a Way of Life, JESUS! If you read it, then you will see it’s about our “Daily Walk”, and not an abbreviated prayer. Are we called to walk as a Jew, or to walk as HE walked? The Shema was to teach everyone around us, and to display that in our daily walk from the time we get up to the time we sleep.
(Rev 2:1 - 7 )This is addressed to what I believe are the Messianic and Hebrew Roots of today, who put Torah and Jewish traditions before our Messiah, leaving their First Love:
So why is it important to follow the Doctrines of Christ?
Jesus fulfilled (fully preach) the law, being the “Perfect” example to us of how to truly keep it! He was the mystery of God that was hidden until He came. Who will we learn from, Jesus or the Torah? Without Jesus we are still under the curse of the law! So which is more important? Jesus will teach us the Torah by the way He walked!
    Rom 16:25 - 26
What are we told about the traditions of men? Check what you’re saying and doing, and see if it is a “commandment of God”, or a tradition of men! Did our God command us to look and act Jewish (occultist hand signs in your prayer of Aaron, scroll parade, allegiance to a wicked nation, and a flag used by the occult since Babylon)? O Jerusalem Jerusalem, how I long to gather you… Realize Israel (Jerusalem/Temple of our God) is only a believer in the Messiah, who keeps His commandments, for there is neither Jew nor Greek, only those who are in Christ Jesus. Who is your teacher, the commandments or your Messiah? I know many will say He is the Word/Torah, and if this be true, “Follow Him”, what He said and taught through the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
Your traditions will cause you to reject God (Jesus, the Living Word)
    Mat 15:3, Mar 7:9, Mar 7:13
Commanded to listen and follow Jesus from the Torah!
Deu 18:18 I will raise them up a Prophet (The Messiah) from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put My words in His mouth; and He shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. Deu 18:19 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which HE shall speak in My name, I will require (require: properly to tread or frequent) it of him.
Do you want the written word or the “manifest Word”?
    1Ti 6:3, Col 2:6 - 10, 1Jn 1:1 - 4, Mat 17:1 - 8
Who do we put on, Torah or Jesus?
    Rom 13:14, 1Co 15:53 - 54, Col 3:9 - 17
    True Israel
Gal 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. Gal 3:29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
SALVATION is by JESUS CHRIST alone, but the evidence of our Salvation (JESUS) is when we love Him we will keep His commandments, putting on the Lord Jesus Christ, as taught and walked by Him!
Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

The real question is, are we covenented or not? The covenent existed before Moses wrote it. The double blessing of the first born withheld from Reuben for uncovering the nakedness of his father Jacob is a violation of the command in Deuteronomy 18. Thus, the double blessing written later by Moses in Deuteronomy 21:17 and given to Joseph by Jacob wasn't yet written. This explains that the commands hadn't yet been written down but were observed by the patriarchs as they walked their faith out.

Hebrew Roots is a stepping stone to conversion. Being treated as second class citizens in the messianic Jewish Movement, many have left it and joined Hebrew Roots congregations also called the Sacred Name Movement. But it only lasts for a while and doesn't satisfy. Finally, those hungry souls of returning Ephraimites kept searching, and many found that there are congregations that are conducting Jewish conversions without requiring to deny faith in Yeshua. Some examples are Lapid Judaism, Ani Judaism and Messianic Dallas. There are also some in the mainsrream Jewish world that do the same. The geulah has begun.

A Messianic Gentile and A Believing Gentile are both an oxymoron!! You are either grafted into the olive tree of Israel, following Yeshua, who is The Way and keeping the commandments of the Father, the Most High Elohim - El Elyon, as Yeshua, the Son who was obedient to His Father, as we are to be. We are either inside of the camp or outside of the camp. We are no longer Gentiles when we are obedient to haAvi (the Father). So, please, fellow children of Elohim, cease using that term. Pls., read Romans 11 and Ephesians 4. Biblically, gentiles are goyim (of the nations) who are not of Israel. In the scriptures, gentile is a pagan; a worshipper of false gods; a heathen.
