- Both Jews and Christians agree: a Jew who believes in Jesus (Yeshua) is now a Christian. So what reason could there possibly be for a Jewish follower of Yeshua not to want to be called a “Christian?” Is he just being disingenuous? Maybe he’s denying his faith. In this episode, Kevin explains both from the Scriptures and his personal experience, how Jews can legitimately believe in and give their lives to Yeshua, yet also retain their biblically Jewish identity-and why the whole world depends on it.

I'm not a Jew, but everything I've learned by coming out of the mainstream church and reading the bible for myself, is that I am grafted into Israel. The rules or Torah is for everyone who believes in Yeshua. We can't worship the God of Israel and the messiah of Israel and read a book that was instructions for Israel and then not live the life of what they say. Christ taught Torah, so we have to live it. If we walk in the light, then the blood of Christ cleanses us from all sin. I keep the feast days to the best of my ability and the Shabbat. I wear tassels and don't shave my beard, and most of all I try to love everyone with a pure heart. Yah is pulling a lot of people to the truth. There is a big movement that is coming out of the churches and finding out the doctrines of men have clouded our faith in messiah. If it's not in the bible I won't do it. Yah bless you brother!

Study the book of Galatians carefully. You are under the "yoke of bondage" by trying to keep the law. You have embraced a false religion of pseudo-Judaism mixed with Christianity like so many have done. Return to the faith of liberty that the new testament teaches.

I will keep walking in faith. Even though it’s difficult. I will praise Jesus even in my times of despair. These past years have been difficult on me. But with the Lord’s strength, I have persevered. I have two beautiful boys both are autistic. My husband passed away years ago. I’m all alone. I lost my job over declining the vaccine. LIKE MANY OTHERS! I declined due to my pre existing health conditions lupus and heart disease. I’ve been struggling to provide for myself and my children since losing my job from Forsyth hospital. I’m now waitressing, and I’m thankful, but I’m not making nearly enough to get by. Every month is a battle to not end up on the streets with my two children. I’m constantly in fear of losing my home. To even think about being on the streets with two young children is terrifying. But even as I face homelessness seemingly every month. I have faith, God will provide. With GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE! Faith over fear.
My girl, I am placing you on my prayer list. Bless your heart. HE is ABLE - just do what you're supposed to and cast all your cares on HIM because He does know and He does care. Be encouraged.

What a wonderful teaching. I too have re-attached to my Jewish roots through Yeshua. My mothers family were secular Jews (some generations ago we were Jewish) I grew up as a Christian, taking myself to church where I learnt the ways of Christ. Yah has since led me back and I am learning to keep the feast, eat clean and keep Shabbat. What a great Father we serve. Praise be to Him for this video-has blessed me greatly. Thank you Kevin.

Does this mean you have left Christianity and gone back under the law for salvation? Galatians 5:1 "Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage." In fact the whole book of Galatians refutes law keeping, as well as other parts of the new testament. I just don't understand why anyone would do it, Jew or Gentile. It seems that this has become a thing among non-Jews as well. Baffling.

Very good message, I was born a gentile Christian but my parents didn't practice Christianity. I started going to a little Baptist Church with my older brother and sister when I was ten and knew I had to serve God from that point. I have somewhat left the Christian label behind now as I try to be Torah Observant by eating clean and keeping the feasts and Sabbath days. My family thinks I have lost my mind but the more I accept the scriptures for what they really say and reject the manmade holidays and traditions the more peace I have in my soul
I believe in Jesus/ Yeshua, but I don't consider myself a Christian. I was raised in the Lutheran faith, but for about two years now, I don't identify myself as Christian anymore. What this terminology implies in our modern culture is so far from my biblical beliefs. So I"m on your side, Kevin!
Just curious, what do Lutherans believe? And what do you now believe, that is different from what the 'terminology of Christian in modern culture is? Do you believe we are saved by grace through faith in Christ?

Like Hitler? He was an Occultist despising not only Jews, but Christians too. Hitler was from Austria and yet Austrians are so cowardly today calling themselves not Germans because of Hitler. And calling defining, despising, cursing everything to do with German because of Hitler. Same is done all around the West with all western cultures to bring down and to destroy western civilizations, using colonization, slavery or whatever to do it.
I'm Geman and I don't define myself after an image what Marxists, Globalists give to me coming from indoctrination camps (schools and universities) or propaganda (media). Because I'm a German from Russia I honor my forefathers in keeping what is good and remember the crimes the godless Bolsheviks (Marxists, Globalists) did towards humanity and still do today. Now with the total destruction of individualism (Transgenderism, Transhumanism) after being successful with getting ride of national identity, culture, family structures.
Nowhere in the Bible you find to get rid of ethnicity and yet churches are helping the Globalists (Antichrist) Agenda. Identify is important and every Jew and every Christian too should keep their identity and don't throw it out of the window only because its the Zeitgeist of our time, which is most of the time in human history against God and therefore anti-human anyways. Even in the Millenia when Jesus will rule this world with an iron fist as an Emperor, a Dictator there will be still nations, ethnicities, different languages because diversity is from God.

As a christian, this was enlightening. I never understood the difference but the cultural significance makes sense. I will say that many christians like myself would not have a problem with one maintaining being a jew. I would also say that many christians are not aware that jews were persecuted by those who claim to be christian throughout history. Many christians would speak against that. I guess thats the ultimate issue. Christian has many different faces. thanks again for the insight.

its sad the meaning of the word "Christian" has been corrupted so much til its unrecognizable.. this is why i have trouble with the term. it means something very different today than what it used to mean. many so-called Christians today would strongly deny that ppl like me are Christian because i deny celebrating Christmas, deny that understanding trinity is required for salvation, and follow Torah.

Comments and questions for you, Kevin: I think, based on my Bible study and my best reasoning, that during the Millennium the whole world will be under the Torah. I base this on Isaiah 2:3, Micah 4:2, Zechariah 14:18, and maybe other scriptures too. If that is the case, then why wouldn't observance of the law be good for gentile believers now?
Other scriptures lead me to believe that Jewish and Gentile believers are one body, or can or should be--John 10:16, Isaiah 56:6-7, and perhaps also Numbers 15:15-16.
What you said about the Jewish identity has actually been on my mind a lot the past few days. Maybe Paul dissuaded gentile believers from keeping the law so that the Jewish bloodline would be more likely to remain pure and the Jews would remain a distinguishable people. Or maybe God himself intended this when he inspired Paul's words. As a Christian interested in Torah (but not a Hebrew roots person or even Torah-observant), Paul's dogged insistence that gentiles NOT try to keep any of the law (which would be good and healthy for any people to keep) baffles me.
Attempted compliance with Torah does not make anyone holy--Jews, gentiles, believers, or non-believers, correct? All are in the same boat as far as being justified is concerned.
So I think the sole motivation for this separation between Jew and Gentile believers--the different standards for each--is about trying to keep the bloodline pure. I am not saying that is wrong necessarily. It may be God's plan. And it also seems clear that the primary reason this might be the case is so that the Israelites can inherit and occupy the land promised to the seed of the patriarchs. You said that Caleb was not a Jew. But Caleb inherited a share of the promised land--it passed to his children, yes, but he himself was given a portion in the promised land by God, and so I think God must have considered him to be fully a Jew.
One thing I strongly believe, though, is that in this day and age, respect for and possibly observance of the law has never been more needed in Christendom. "Belief" has been divorced from God's laws of morality and justice and everything else. There is great confusion. So how do we bring Christianity back to orthodoxy and orthopraxy if not to turn to the law as the guide? For it is through the law that we become conscious of sin (and how we know what things are sins, very basically). And how have the Jews supposed to have been a light for the Gentiles if not by pointing the Gentiles to the law?
I know there's a lot here, but I would like to know your thoughts on any or all of this.

Thank you so much for this video! As an “Evangelical Christian” who is reading the Bible for myself, I’ve always wondered why we stopped being Jewish even though Jesus and his disciples were Jewish throughout the New Testament. I also wondered if it was just a name change why did all the traditions leave with it too. Even the Bible speaks of traditions and feast that Jesus and the disciples participated in. & with the New Testament constantly referencing the Old Testament and people form it, why are we so far removed from the way people lived life back then?!

Thankyou so much - that explains a lot of things, especially considering the different expectations on Gentile vs Jewish followers of Christ regarding the Law. As a Messianic Believer, how do you navigate the inability to follow the Torah fully due to the lack of the Temple? And how do you reconcile the differences between the pure word in the Bible & the polluted Traditions Judaism has added over the centuries? Which therefore do you follow? And how closely do you feel compelled to follow either? Sorry, just questions I've always been curious about since discovering Acts 15 & 21.
Here's an even more entangled twist....raised secular, born again in 2000....radically transformed by the Holy One of Israel....thinking I am a Gentile....Oct 7th awakened the Jewish soul in me and discovered I have Jewish ancestry on both mother and father's side that was never mentioned or admitted.....now I speak to other believers who when I tell them I am a Messianic Jew, they have no idea what that means....but what wonderful, Spirit inspired conversations we have....Messianic Judaism is the Biblical Judaism that was never to be turned into or split off into another religion. Wow, many of us are aging radical in different ways.
Christian has to do with Christ, a name translated from Greek. I am a Haitian who was raised Christian. I no longer identify as a Christian. I am a believer and follower of Yeshua and Yahuah, the Messiah's name as Himself as Jew. My savior is a Jew and there was no need for translation of His name.
I am alone for the most part, but it's okay because I have Him and He is all that I need.
a family member converted to messianic judiasm but before she converted, she wanted to make sure she had jewish blood, and did a blood test. It noted she was 25% jewish. So than she converted to Messianic Jew and noted she has a deeper relationship to Jesus. So my question to her was how did 25% Jewish blood make your relationship with Jesus stronger, if He asked those to believe in him in Faith? The Jewishness can never replace the truth of the Gospel of God. If you want to return to Jewishness of Faith go back to Deut 6:4. He is ONE! No one beside him!
Shalom aleikhem, very well said and a needed message. You made many good points which were clear and helpful for many to understand. I would add, around the 12 min 30 sec mark, that when Gal. 3:28 mentions there is no Jew or Greek, etc.,, these are all symbolic terms and not to be taken literally, since one would always be a 'jew' if he or she was by blood; however, the ideas of Jew vs. Greek, slave vs. free, male vs female, reflect a much deeper meaning between two contrasts. No matter what are backgrounds may be, we all have access thru Messiah, if we submit according to the Father's will and not of our own culture, doctrines, agendas and passions. Consequently, Gentile Christianity does believe it has replaced Israel as you so poignantly mentioned in the video; therefore, does more harm than good to the Jewish nation. Which is why I was conveying the idea, that one does not lose his or her Jewish identity, since the phrase "there is no Jew..." cannot be understood with a Gentile lens. Kevin, I appreciated your video and the integrity of your heart. I hear what you are saying, and I understand the concerns that you have. By no means should you reject or cast off your Jewish heritage. However, I believe that God does not think any less or more of you if you do or don't identify as Jewish or even observe the traditions and feasts. Yes, you are part of the Chosen people. What a blessing! But as you mentioned, we are no longer under the law but under grace. There is no longer any difference between Jews and gentiles in the eyes of God. When you stand before God, he's not going to ask you if you kept all the feasts and traditions. I don't believe that He's going to be concerned that you did or did not identify as Jewish. He's simply going to acknowledge you as His child who trusted in the finished work of Christ on the cross for your forgiveness of sins and eternal life. To be in the line of the Chosen people is an added bonus and honor. I think that the traditions and feasts are beautiful and have very significant symbolism and meaning that help Jewish believers understand and remember from where they came and who they are as the Chosen People. I don't know if you engage in the traditions and feasts/holy days or not. If you do, I think that is wonderful and I'm sure they have deep significance and meaning to your Jewish heritage. But I don't believe that you should think of yourself as less than Jewish by calling yourself a Christian. All followers of Jesus are supposed to be "little Christs" which is implied in the word "Christian". We are representatives of Christ to the unsaved unbelieving world. In general, you and I are on equal ground in the eyes of God when we stand together before Him in eternity. Am I less of a believer in Messiah because I did not follow the same traditions as you? Of course not. However, I have seen a number of gentile believers who have "crossed over" and celebrate the feasts and holy days right along side of their Messianic Jewish brothers and sisters. I've observed that they get very caught up in it and actually think that to NOT observe these holy days makes them something less than a devout follower of Christ. They are resorting back to the law, just as Paul reprimanded the NT churches for doing - trying to somehow find identity in the law and traditions. Again, I don't know to what extent you might celebrate Jewish feasts and holy days.
Something else that I've thought about: The purpose of the Jewish nation was to appoint the rest of the world to Christ, although we know that the Jews rejected Christ, and the gospel ended up going out to the gentile nations through Paul and his associates. The distinctive of your Jewish heritage comes from the fact that you are one of the Chosen - to be God's people but also TO TAKE THE GOSPEL TO THE REST OF THE WORLD - that is why you are the Chosen. Identifying as a Jew simply lets the rest of the world know that your ancestors were God's chosen vessel to evangelize the world. If I am wrong on this, please correct me. This is my understanding of it, but I could very well be missing particular important elements. God ultimately planned for ALL people to have the chance to accept the gift of salvation, but the Jews were his Chosen special people to first demonstrate His love and grace and mercy. But it did not stop with the Jews and it was never intended to stop with them - only begin with them and then spread throughout the rest of the world.

This video is timely for me and confirmation as I’m a gentile believer who can no longer identify as being ‘Christian’. I actually don’t know what to say to people who ask me what I am now as I know I am becoming Torah Observant and trying my best to keep Shabbat and the Holy Days. Does anyone know what to tell ppl in this regard besides saying I’m a Christian who follows Torah?

This is why sometimes when certain (usually antagonistic) people may ask me if I'm a Christian (I'm a gentile, no Jewish lineage) I'll ask them what that think a Christian is or what they mean by that before I answer "yes".
But from my perspective if a Jewish person says "I'm a Jew", I'll tend take that as they are not a Christian unless they qualify it and say "Messianic Jew" or "I'm a follower of Yeshua"
Like you said, words mean something and it's so easy to misunderstand one another.

Maybe a another way of saying this is that spiritually (in the spirit) ) in Christ there is no Jew or Greek male of female, etc. , but physically(as fleshly beings) there (obviously) are those distinctions and that as Christians one is both a spiritual as well as a fleshly being, albeit led by the spirit... or at least ideally so.
I am only recently waking up to the fact that my Christianity is not what I thought it was to put it mildly. I really appreciate your teaching. This is only the second of your videos I’ve heard so far. So now I’m just trying to figure out what I’m supposed to do or be. I stopped going to church and one reason is that, like you said, they seem to dismiss the Towrah and they worship on Sunday. I feel so ignorant about so much. I hope you are not misconstruing my words. Worshiping on Sundays and not keeping the Torah are not legitimate reasons to stop meeting with other believers. True Christianity is Messianic Judaism. The Jewish people have never lost their heritage in 2000 years, and they won't now either. And that is because they are God's Covenant chosen people...still. That never changed because "God cannot lie". And true christianity or messianic judaism does not run in opposition to Judaism rather it fulfils it.
So, I am a gentile (not a Jew) as far as I know. Additionally, I am a follower of Yeshua. Based on this information, I am a Christian, correct? I think the issue is more along the lines of differing yourself from Roman Catholic, Gentile Protestant (Sunday worship), Yeshua Saturday worship or Messianic.
If you are comfortable with the label “Christian,” there is definitely biblical support for it!
great video thanks for sharing, to really speak the christian terminology though correctly is to specify what kind of christian. the original christians mentioned in acts were biblical people following the correct biblical path, jews & gentiles following yeshua. then there is western religion that is christian western religion that started in approx 365 AD in rome, there is a HUGE difference. if your a follower of yeshua yes you can be a christian but what type? the same type as described in acts, meaning a biblical person following yeshua jew or gentile. then there is a western religion christian that is different, can be one of many religions today that started decades after the messiah went to the right hand of the creator. the messiah warned us about this, stay with the path that the messiah taught. the original translation of the "christian" meant you follow christ teachings and path as the messiah taught. the western religious definition is to follow man's hybrid doctrine of biblical times and added doctrine which there are many of. i am a christian, what type? the same type as described in acts, a biblical christian following the path as taught when the messiah was here on earth for both jew & gentile.
I reject the 'label' of 'christian' because, in my view, like the יהודים of ישוע's time, there is a choice being made between the Greek Jesus bar abbas or the Hebrew ישוע בן אבא. While many post mid 2nd century have treated them the same, they are practically antithetical in doctrinal understanding.
For a variety of reasons, the goyeem 'unhitched' the Hebrew ('jewish') Messiah of The Scriptures (TanakH) from His Hebrew/Jewish personage. They set forth the unbiblical antinomian heresy as their starting point, and worked 'backwards' from there. I just saw a 'meme image' with the representation of 'scripture' by a pyramid, divided much like the food pyramid from my childhood. They had the base as the TanakH in one view, and the other view had that same 'base' of the pyramid teetering on the pointed edge of the apostolic letters. That seems just about as apropos to a visual representation of the last 2000 years (well, 7 more years).
For me, the year 2030 represents the most interesting time for His return, being that it is 40 Jubilees from His offering. Many of us understand that the number 40 often represents times of trial. Anyway, just my useless 2 cents.

See my understanding is that the Old Testament is the Tanakh. And you’re suppose to teach your kids the Old Testament.

I am a Catholic and I'm sick and tired of Rad Trad Christians saying that you cannot remain a Jew while being a follower of Jesus. Even after Jesus was born, his parents went to the Temple in observance of Jewish custom. They redeemed Jesus, their firstborn from temple service. And Mary made a Jewish offering. In the Book of Acts, the apostles gathered together at the cusp of the first day, which is Sunday, for their holy meal. That is Jewish. They didn't collect the tithe on a Sabbath, which is forbidden if you keep the Sabbath. After Paul defended Gentile Christians from being forced to get circumcised, he proceeded to circumcise Timothy who was a Jew. In other words, the first Early Christians retained the Jewish identity to a great degree after following Jesus as Messiah and Lord. Duh!
Oh, and not to mention the fact that the Apostles were gathered in the Upper Room on Shavuot! It was on Shavuot that the Spirit came down upon them to birth the Church. If that isn't a confirmation from the Lord that He was continuing the Jewish Shavuot as the Christian Pentecost, I don't know what it is. A coincidence? Ha!

I do not appear to fit in niether. We are all a mixed race, especially considering the geneologies of Adam and Eve, then Noah. I also do not believe many of those religions who call themselves Christians who we know are not, like Carholics being the main one as they have bore a long history bad fruits. A Christian is supposed to be Christ followers, but I do not really see that myself in the overall scope of things. Whereas I also see Judaism as a very boastful and prideful people who think they are better than anyone else on earth, which I think is why Jews have a difficult time maintaining their relationship with God. I believe the Jews were the chosen people, but, what I may see as "The Chosen" different than Jews. I believe God chose them to bring the O.T to the world in preperation of Jesus Christ. Then, when Christ came, he obviously had to come to the Jews first. However, where I may differ is that the Jews reject Christ and had Him crucified in order to fulfill the prophecies in the Old Testament. Now, it appears the "Christians" are bringing the N.T. back to the Jews. True Christians love the Jews and know why the Jews were the Chosen people. In the same token, I also believe that anyone who accepts the teachings of Christ and follow those teaching. There are also those called "The Elect" which I believe is not the same as the Chosen. The Elect are those Chosen before the foundations of the earth, meaning all those who are true believers of God, Christ and the Holy Spirit regardless of what they want to call themselves. As the Bible teaches, anyone who believes in Christ and follows his teachings ( not those who claim to, but really don't) are called the children of Abraham. I do not think that the Christian nor the Jew have it entirely accurate. As for me, I believe my duty is to be Christ-like, which appears these days to be at odds with Mrssianic, Judaism and Christian teachings based on what I get from the New Testament. As far as I am concerned, If Jesus did it, so should I. I do not believe Sunday is the Sabbath Day, I do not believe in "Easter" and now more recently Christmas because of what it has become. I do not take issue with celebrating the birth of Christ, but that is not what it is about anymore. I believe in Shabbat, I am not on board with the Christian view of the original sin and some other things. On the other hand, I do not take issue with any Jewish holiday ( 9f course), but I do not believe in the Old laws that Jesus came to fulfill, along with a few other things. When people ask my "religion" I just say as I have been taught by father, "I am a child of God." Therefore, I do not feel I am at home with any particular faith.

Thanks for your question, Scott. It depends upon what one means by “Jewish.” But no, the Bible makes no such requirement or provision. The Bible only prescribes circumcision and intermarriage, but even then, that doesn’t make the Gentile “Jewish.”

@Apollos2.2 Judaism ≠ Biblical Torah Jewish Faith. For example, Paul left Judaism behind (Galatians 1:13), but did not leave Torah/“the Law” behind (Romans 3:31). I hope that helps clarify.

A lot of this is subjective. What you described as “Messianic Jew” is a relatively good explanation of what I believe; however, not all Messianic Jews would agree. Gentiles are similar. Some retain “Christian,” which is fine. Others call themselves “Messianic Gentile” or just “Messianic.” What we label ourselves isn’t nearly as important as the Name we should serve and proclaim!

I fully understand why a Messianic Jew differentiates from "Christian". Here's what I don't understand... Strong's Concordance tells us Deuteronomy 6:4 says, "Hear oh Israel, YAHWEH our ELO-HE-NU is one YAHWEH. As I understand it, YAHWEH is singular referring to GOD, and ELO-HE-NU is plural, gods.
So this is saying GOD, who is more than one, is ONE, so why do the Jews reject the Trinity when GOD tells then from the start that HE is more than one...?
Because singular or plural forms in Hebrew don’t overtly communicate theological ideas any more than feminine and masculine forms do. These are linguistic, not theological. The plain text says that God is One. The Hebrew word forms don’t guide us into a deeper meaning than that. Besides, it’s debatable to what extent Elohim is “plural” as we think of as “plural.” Thanks for the question.

Linguistics aren’t theological. It’s just language. Language that’s used to communicate theological or spiritual ideas doesn’t imbue it with super-linguistic qualities. That’s all this means. As for the plural issue, Hebrew is just a very different language from English, so one-to-one thinking can be insufficient. For example, there are no tenses in Hebrew (past, present, future). But we translate tense based on context. Thanks again for the comment.

Because the Greek is the secondary source. Even the early “church” fathers like Papias ( Apostle John’s disciple, and Jerome, Eusebius have all stated that Matthew and other Gospels were written in Hebrew and each translated them as best they could.
The words Christian, Church, Easter and New Testament can be found in the Bible and were not words used at all during the Jewish apostles writings.
